oyetunjibaba: OOU does Post UTME and uses it as 40 percent in total points OOU requires you to have at least Credits in your 5 compulsory subjects, Kindly note WAEC grades don't have any impact on post UTME points Nursing is a new course in OOU that kicked off in 2018/19 academic session, the latest merit cut off for 2019/2020 admission is 60 |

Caramelskin: Direct entry would definitely be calculated using Class of degree / A level points Post UTME score What I don't know is the particular ratio |

Chuksjohnleo24: Criterias for admission differs among universities, but they all have a common ground 'JAMB score' Medicine as a course, is widely known for its high 'cut off' year in, year out Using my school 'Olabisi Onabanjo University' as an example In 2017, when i was admitted, Merit Cut Off was 69, while Catchment Cut Off (Ogun State Indigenes) was around 67 JAMB score would be converted to 60 ,while Post UTME would be converted to 40 If Bolu has 300/400 in JAMB and 70/100 in Post UTME His aggregate score is (300/400)x60 + (70/100)x40 45. + 28 Which is 73 points, which beats the cut off this is just an example NOTE: At least Credits in 5 Important courses is compulsory Kindly endeavour to find out about the admission criteria of the University of your choice Stay Safe |

It has been quite a long period of 'holiday' due to the outbreak of COVID 19, Most students have been out of school since March and it doesn't seem like resumption is anytime soon This week is a sad week to me, cause, if things had remained normal, I would have started my PART 1 MB this week, but, I believe everything happens for a reason As a (medical) student, this might be the longest free time I would have, so it is very important to use the time judiciously A lot of people won't be the same when things go back to normal, a lot of new skills would have been learnt, new knowledge, new ideas etc So I would like to admonish everyone that comes across this thread, to use this period as a SELF DEVELOPMENT period, it might not neccesarily be anything academic, cause you still have a long time to study in school Just learn a skill, I am a graphics designer and a Medical student, but within this holiday, I have improved on my skills, and I'm also in the process of learning new things Just do it! Please stay safe and follow the COVID-19 precautions in your area, Wash your hands with soap and water, use a face mask, STAY HEALTHY 1 Like |

So guys, As expected, I'm in 300L now, My MB exam is in July A lot of things have happened mehn, It hasn't really been easy, but I wouldn't describe it as tough, cause it has been relatively easy. . Permit me to brief you guys about my progress in different subjects ANATOMY Anatomy is a very vast subject, and we're almost done with the curriculum, that means we've done Upper Limbs Lower Limbs Thorax Abdomen Head and Neck General Histology Systemic Histology Systemic Embryology . For some complicated reasons, we couldn't do General embryology, even though we're still going to do it So the major work remaining under anatomy is Neuroanatomy Well, my journey in Anatomy hasn't been really bad at all, Most of my scores have been really OK, i feel Anatomy is the course I enjoy the most, cause I'm a visual learner, and anatomy deals mostly with the structure of things I almost forgot to talk about dissection, well, so far so good, we've dissected the whole human body, and the only thing remaining is to break the skull and remove the brain The fact that I am expected to be able to name any structure in the cadaver still SCARES me, but we go dey all right I'll talk about the other two courses soon BTW My MB exam is soon, and I need prayers |

Happy New Month Guys So happy writing here....School schedule has been kinda tight, so I didn't even have any kinda spare time to write here, but I promise to work on how often I deliver contents here. Guys, Pray for me o....I'm having Anatomy Incourse(examination) on March 7th....Thats like my second Anatomy Incourse but I'm still scared in a way So leggo I would be telling you guys how my last week was in the Medical school So, Monday, A very stressful day as all the lecturers have gone to renew themselves, well, for that day, we had histology, and as usual the Man gave us impossible assignments, and owing to the Strike Factor, Most lecturers would love to rush us and make us do impossible things, Ohhhhhhhhh, I forgot, Histology is a sub course under Anatomy, which basically deals with Cells, tissues, Identification of tissues, types of tissues etc. Well, what's a Medical school without a Library, though, I'm not really a Library person but the free periods we had made me consider the option. On Tuesday, lol, Cadaver day, we don't take our normal classes in Sagamu, we do it in Ikenne, where our dissection room is also situated, Well, by now, most of us have already gotten over our fright for the cadaver, I didn't even go with Nose Mask or gloves, was really tired that day, I slept off in the room, and you know, a lot of Medical students like work, so they were actively busy butchering... Sorry Dissecting,... Classes finished and we had a very tough search for transport to Sagamu under the rain Wednesday, Thursday Friday, was almost free days for reasons I don't know, most of our lecturers didn't show up, but which student does not like Free day Yes, Medical Students too have fun, By the evening of Friday, OOUMSA (our Departmental organisation) organized a Social Night, though it was 5-10, but we had so much fun, Movies, Games, PS4, A lot of stuffs, and Dance Mehnn... Really fun, but then, I had to trek home cause I couldn't get bike since it was late So here am I, about to Happy New Month Guys So happy writing here....School schedule has been kinda tight, so I didn't even have any kinda spare time to write here, but I promise to work on how often I deliver contents here. I am sorry guys for not showing up for a while, it wasn't intentional, Apologies accepted? As we all know the good news that ASUU strike has been suspended, School activities would continue asap and I would be able to keep this thread very active Today, I'm going to do a review of the textbooks used for ANATOMY. Note that this might vary from University to University, So whatever I say here is based on my own university (OOU), but however it is similar in most Nigerian Universities Let's get started CLINICALLY ORIENTED ANATOMY by KEITH MOORE Well, this was the first book I purchased when I got to Medical school, So large a book, probably the largest Anatomy textbook you'll use, It is from an English author, hence, the use of English is superb, Over here, it is the most popular book, cause it is very detailed, I call it Almighty Keith Moore. A lot of information reside in this book that you might spend close to an hour reading just 10 pages (not to scare you), it also has good use of diagrams but it has a fault most people noticed, it doesn't place emphasis on any information, so you just read without knowing what to put more attention to and what to read lightly, that's why some people in my school prefer the next book I'm about to talk about. This book sells for around 8,000 over here BD CHAURASIA HUMAN ANATOMY well, this is a very nice and precise book, of an Indian Author, so the English used is moderate and average, the difference between this book and Keith Moore is that while Keith Moore could write a paragraph about a topic, this book would write it as bullet points and explain it briefly. Keith Moore would give you everything about a topic, but this would give you all you need to know, And it is very effective as there is limited time to study as a Medical Student and it's not only Anatomy you're doing. But personally, I only use Chaurasia when I've read it on Keith Moore first. The textbook sells for around 13,000 naira LAST ANATOMY well, this is a book for bosses, if you try to read this book without prior knowledge, you'll feel Anatomy is very hard, But an amazing thing about this book is that it has a lot of 'stuffs', things that they ommited in other textbooks seem to be here, in my own opinion, this book is for Professionals in the field or for students that wants to revise before the Examination. The textbook sells for around 5,000 naira GRAYS ANATOMY I personally haven't used this book so much, and I didn't even purchase it, I use the PDF, but with the little I've used, it has amazing graphics, Nice stuffs, overall it is a very nice book. But, you know, you might run into problem when you're combining a lot of textbooks, cause there is limited time and using multiple is like time wasting and information might just begin to become confusing to you as most textbook have varying information, A textbook can call a value 1.0 and another can call it 1.01, so when you have like 4 values in your head and you're asked during Incourse, you get confused. But it is advisable to use the textbook your lecturer prefers You could also get a nice ATLAS for diagrams and over here I use Netter's Atlas and my experience with the book has been so wonderful. How are you guys doing? And How is preparation for resumption Well I've been in school since January irrespective of the strike, you know as medical students, you need to read a lot and we had some tutorials throughout the strike Hoping to hear from you guys Olumide. 7 Likes |

Joskiro50:Textbooks I would soon write about them But note that it varies from School to school But for mine. Anatomy Clinically Oriented Anatomy by Keith Moore BD chaurasia Human Anatomy Last Anatomy And if I might include Grays Anatomy Physiology is mainly Sembulligam Physiology but I'll talk about those later. BCH. Vasudevan BCH pakanja Naik BCH But I've never found the hard copy of the pakanja, we only have the soft copy over here but nevertheless, it's a very amazing book I would write later about my review of these books |

Joskiro50:As you said, A 200l student of BCH, Meaning you haven't done much of BCH before the strike In my own opinion, I would advise you to take up the admission for Medicine as it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, Life doesn't go the way we planned and what if you finish BCH and you find it difficult to gain admission for Medicine If this was my case, I wouldn't even give it a second thought cause there are a lot of students out there wishing to have this opportunity My opinion though |

Getting into Medical school, we all know is not an easy task, and surviving in the school might also be harder, Hence, we have to develop the right attitude, reading habit, Time management and balance in Medical school. Medical school has a kind of way of disappointing most students as most of us were one of the best in our secondary school, but life happened and we got here where we have a lot of smart asses....like I mean really smart. I believe Medicine ain't like Maths where you can be a genius and just answer questions without any prior knowledge, Bro, if you try am for here, you go 'jewa' o We read here, Yes, even a lot, but then, we turn up once in a while as 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy's but Abeg, don't turn up too much o, except you are a bossssssssssssssssssss, and Medical school is a place even the bosses stumble. If you stumble lasan, na either two things o RESIT or REPEAT One better pass another o Guess which? RESIT is the younger brother of repeat, If you fail in only one course, another exam is arranged for you within a short while, and if you pass, No lele, but if you fail, na wahala be that o REPEAT occurs when you fail more than a course or you fail a resit, you'll now go and continue with your juniors Note The fail I meant is not in the Incourses ( These are like tests we do at regular intervals, but in complexity, it's not test o, it's a SERIOUS exam), The fail I'm referring to in RESIT and REPEAT is in the Almighty MB exam. I'll have to stop here tonight, Body dey ache, Feel free to ask any question pertaining to Medicine or my post in the comment box. Goodnight. 1 Like |
