No wonder they changed it. Everyone knows celebrities have stage names and fans know for sure that most times, their monikers are not the names their parents christened them with. Here are seven names of Nigerian Top celebrities that you may not have known : 1. Who Is Mr. Ogunmefun? That is Mr. Olanrewaju Ogunmefun to you. With all his over 16 bars from day one, sometimes its easy to forget that Vector Tha Viper is a typical Yoruba boy with a typical Yoruba name. 2. So Who One Of You Is Ojereh? Contrary to popular belief: Don Jazzy‘s real name does not have Jazz in it And he’s not Donald. That being said, Michael Collins Ojereh doesn’t exactly roll of the tongue, does it? 3. Looking For My Odom You may know him as Timaya but his Mama calls him Inetimi; Inetimi Odom. Its not so hard to see where he got the ‘Tim’ from, but the ‘Maya’? That’s a question only Mr. Odom can answer. 4. Its Your Boy Tosin As it turns out the Leg Over singer is not our boy Eazi! He is our boy, Oluwatosin Ajibade. Don’t believe us? Ask his daddy. 5. Hanniel Noni is such an angelic name, isn’t it? How Reeky Tom Tom got Reekado Banks from Ayoleyi Hanniel? When you find out please let us know. 6. Say hi Modupe Cheedah Modupe Oyeyemi clearly started off being inspired by her legal name when she was shopping for a stage name but we are guessing her favorite type of cheese came in at some point and inspired her. 7. What do y’all think about DJ Florence Otedola? There is no doubt that you will recognize the ‘Otedola’ surname but did you know that Mr. Otedola’s musically inclined daughter is actually named Florence. We’ll take Cuppy over Florence though…just saying. Did we miss anything? ADD THE ONES YOU KNOW http://trendshood.com/2017/09/real-birthnames-7-top-nigerian-musicians-probably-dont-know/

Bishop TD Jakes recently visited Nigeria and was in House on the Rock to preach the gospel. There, he was presented with the National Souvenir “Nigeria: Our Heritage” by the senior pastor of HotR Paul Adefarasin and his wife Ifeanyi. Ifeanyi, on her Facebook on Friday, revealed that TD Jakes had traced his roots back to Nigeria – the Igbo, to be precise. She shared a photo of herself and her husband presenting the bishop with the book, and wrote: SINCE TRACING HIS ROOTS BACK TO THE IGBO LAND IN NIGERIA, IT WAS BISHOP T.D. JAKES’ FIRST TIME STEPPING ON THE NIGERIAN SOIL, WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS WHERE HE TRULY COMES FROM. IT WAS A SPECIAL HONOUR FOR ME IN PARTICULAR, AS A NATIVE SISTER, TO PRESENT TD JAKES WITH A COPY OF NIGERIA, OUR HERITAGE…OUR COMMONWEALTH. WELCOME HOME! The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed Police Sergeant, Johnbosco Okoroeze, for allegedly helping suspected ritual killer, Ifeanyi Dike, escape from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt. Okoroeze was also arraigned before a chief magistrate’s court on two counts of obstruction of justice and conspiracy. No bail was granted to him, he remains in police custody for the alleged offences. Chief Magistrate, Sokari Andrew-Jaja, cautioned the dismissed Sergeant as he cried uncontrollably inside the court. The prime suspect, Ifeanyi Dike raped, killed and removed the organs of 8 year old Victory Nmezuwuba, before he was arrested and taken to the SCIID. Okoroeze, who was the Investigating Police Officer, said he temporarily removed Dike's handcuffs while he took his statement, but that Dike escaped from his custody in the covers of the dark. The victim’s father, Dr Ernest Nmezuwuba, who was also in the charge room while Dike was supposed to write his statement said there was no power supply in the area at that time and that he had to rely on candlelight during that time. The suspect, Dike, reportedly escaped from Okoroeze's custody and his whereabouts has still remained unknown. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Zaki, ordered the dismissal and arraignment of Okoroeze for criminal conspiracy. According to Punchng, when Okoroeze was aaraigned and presented to the magistrate’s court in handcuffs, he cried profusely. He said: “What have I done to myself? What did I do? Call my wife for me." As the world recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Afrobeats pioneer and legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti‘s passing. The history of Nigerian music and even politics will not be complete without a mention of this enigmatic personality. His music bordered on political discourse, societal values even while entertaining with his energetic performances and live bands. We’ll take a look at 20 facts about Fela; some known while some could be turn out to be surprising. The facts are however unverifiable and the sources would be included. In no particular order, here they are: 1. Fela was influenced by the teaching of American human rights activist Malcom X. – (The Info NG) 2. His political consciousness inspired him to change what he called his “slave name” Ransome and adopted the middle name “Anikulapo,” meaning “to have control over death,” in the late 1960s. – (How Africa) 3. Once he had recorded a song, he never played it live again. He had reportedly been offered several thousands to perform his old hits, which he refused. – (How Africa) 4. His mother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, was an activist in the anti-colonial movement. She influenced her son’s political activism. – (The Info NG) 5. In 1977, Fela and the Afrika ’70 released the album Zombie, a scathing attack on Nigerian soldiers using the zombie metaphor to describe the methods of the Nigerian military. The album was a smash hit and infuriated the government, setting off a vicious attack against the Kalakuta Republic, during which one thousand soldiers attacked the commune. Fela was severely beaten, and his elderly mother (whose house was located opposite the commune) was thrown from a window, causing fatal injuries. – (Information Nigeria) 6. Fela’s response to the attack was to deliver his mother’s coffin to the Dodan Barracks in Lagos, General Olusegun Obasanjo’s residence, and to write two songs, “Coffin for Head of State” and “Unknown Soldier”. – (Information Nigeria) 7. Fela started with only one female dancer, Dele who danced solo for the band for many years. – (The Cable) 8. In 1979, he formed his own political party – MOP (Movement of the People). He also ran for president of Nigeria twice. – (The Info NG) 9. In 2008, an off-Broadway production of Kuti’s life titled “Fela!” was produced. It was inspired by Carlos Moore’s 1982 book “Fela, Fela! This B*tch of a Life“. – (The Info NG) 10. On Nov. 22, 2009, Fela! began a run on Broadway at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York City. Jim Lewis helped co-write the play (along with director/choreographer Bill T. Jones), and obtained producer backing from rapper JAY-Z and actor, rapper Will Smith, among others. – (How Africa) 11. The Broadway production received 11 2010 Tony Award nominations and won Best Choreography, Best Costume Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical. – (How Africa) 12. He was arrested 200 times and endured numerous beatings, but continued to write political lyrics, producing albums before he died on August 2, 1997, in Lagos. – (Information Nigeria) 13. In 1978, Fela married 27 women in a single wedding ceremony. He would eventually divorce them all. He was briefly listed in the Guinness book of records for the most number of women married at one ceremony- 27, in 1978. – (The Info NG) 14. Kuti fell in love with the growing Black Power movement happening in the United States in the 1960s. He was introduced to the Black Panthers while on tour in America in 1969. – (How Africa) 15. In June 1984, a documentary film entitled “Teacher Don’t Teach Me Nonsense” based on Fela’s political life was broadcast to a British audience by the BBC. – (The Cable) 16. In March 1980, Fela accepted a police invitation to serve as a member of the Police Public Relations Committee. – (The Cable) 17. A million people marched with Fela’s Coffin on its final journey to burial in his house. – (The Info NG) 18. He was given a brand new Mercedes Benz 280 Limo by his Record company, which he reputedly used regularly in loading up filthy firewood/charcoal used in cooking to feed the masses in his self-styled Republic. – (How Africa) 19. In 1984, Muhammadu Buhari’s government, of which Kuti was a vocal opponent, jailed him on a charge of currency smuggling which Amnesty International and others denounced as politically motivated. – (Information Nigeria) 20. In 1989, Fela and Egypt ’80 released the anti-apartheid “Beasts of No Nation” that depicts on its cover U.S. President Ronald Reagan, UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and South African State President Pieter Willem Botha. – (Information Nigeria)
