#Part 2: Cassava Value chain: How to create wealth for people of a nation in need of Economic Miracle : Logistics and supply chain management.

In continuation of "Cassava value chain: How to create wealth for people and a nation in need" series, I will like to welcome you to part 2 of the series; Logistics and supply chain management: this part is very important to the cassava value chain. I will tagged any logistics and supply chain management as the "all important middle".

The cassava value chain involves multiple actors, including farmers, processors, traders, and retailers, it's the "all important middle" that connects all together. Supply chain companies are needed to coordinate their activities to ensure efficient production, processing, and distribution of cassava products.

Logistics and supply chain management in the cassava value chain can be divided into three main stages:

Procurement: This involves sourcing cassava from farmers and transporting it to processing plants. The procurement process involves identifying reliable farmers, middlemen, transport/logistics companies and negotiating prices, and ensuring timely delivery of cassava tubers.

In the procurement section of logistics and supply chain management, we have the "all important middle" . These are everything that go-in-between farmers and processors. This area of logistics is where we need real investment now.
The big middle that can provide liquidity in the entire value chain. This part will help make sure there is efficiency in the sector and reduce drudgery of the cassava production part.

The "all important middle" role will emcopass everything from sourcing of cassava tubers to having pickups/trailers to help mop-up cassava from different farms, and also ensure farmers are paid on the spot at farm gate. This make farmers meet his/her financial obligations and also help them plan the next planting season to increase productivity. The "all important middle" company will ensure processing companies operates at their effective efficiency which allow them to focus on their core business which is processing, while the middleman company take care of feedstock sourcing.

The "all important middle" will also be able to deal with each processor in collaboration with the banks thus they will form a tripartite arrangement in which the "all important middle" company can access financing on the strength of the processors credibility. The bank will help make sure monies earned by both processor and the "all important middle" company are disbursed according to terms thus providing liquidity in the sector. When Banks are not involved in this part of value chain, it makes makes wealth creation and value chain development a mirage. We need the banks to help in this aspect of value chain. The "all important middle" is the missing link in the value chain.



Processing: This stage involves transforming cassava into various products such as flour, starch, and chips. The processing stage requires careful planning and coordination to ensure that the processing plant has a steady supply of cassava and that the processing is done efficiently.

In the processing part of the logistics and supply chain management section. We still have to bring back the "all important middle". There is this story I'd like to tell people that care to listen, it's about one starch processor whom I use to supply cassava tubers. The company have capacity to process 13 trailers (30tons) of cassava tubers per day. But always struggle to see just 1 or 2 trailers per day because of the missing link of the "all important middle" . The processor cannot be sourcing and also be processing. It will reduce the efficiency of the processing and it will also not create wealth for everybody on the value chain. So imagine if the starch processor have sales and purchase agreement with the "all important middle" and their bank in a tripartite arrangement. The "all important middle" will always make sure at least 50 to 90% of the cassava tubers needed per day are met. And these will also encourage farmers to farm more as they are have guaranteed markets to sell cassava. It will also increase the economy of scale and make cassava tubers cheaper to produce.


Distribution: This stage involves transporting the processed cassava products to other factories that will need it to further process other goods. Whom also have another value chain entirely. But at then end, they will sell to consumers. The distribution process requires coordination between the cassava processing plant, other industrial users, traders, and retailers to ensure that the products are delivered on time and in the right condition.

Effective logistics and supply chain management in the cassava value chain can result in several benefits, including:

Improved efficiency and productivity: Efficient supply chain management can help to reduce wastes, drudgery, increase productivity, and improve profitability.

Increased market access: Reliable "all important middle" can help cassava producers to access new markets and expand their production base.

Improved quality: Effective logistics and supply chain management can help to ensure that cassava products are of high quality and meet the required standards. As the company operates at its effective efficiency thus maximizing its fixed costs of labor, electricity and other utilities that are fixed no matter their efficiency.

Reduced costs: Efficient "all important middle" can help to reduce transportation costs, storage costs, and other operational costs due to investment in light duty, mid duty and heavy duty trucks for the evacuation of cassava tubers from different farms simultaneously. This will result to improved profitability for all actors in the value chain.

In conclusion, "all important middle" companies are critical components of the cassava value chain. Effective companies operating in this sphere can help to improve efficiency, increase market access, improve quality, and reduce costs for everybody in the value chain of cassava.

I am very very angry right now. I couldn't sleep last night. That is why I'm bringing this here this morning before I do something very bad. A father should be after the growth of his son and not after ruining him.

Please you guys should help me look into this matter. I understand that it was a matter of life and important concern.

I'm seriously struggling in the city to eck a living for myself and do the little I can for my family also. My father was a petty trader who hardly can provide adequate for the family. Some of us who come from a very poor background would understand this better. I mean coming from where absolutely nothing is kept for you. No support from the family and nothing, nothing and nothing. You are the one who die and same you would have to pour yourself water to come back to life. You, you and only you.

I buy fast consuming products and supply to people and make some gains from there. Sometimes I hawk the products. I was able to save up to N150k. Around May this year, I went to the village and bought some rubbers of palm oil and store them to sell around November/December and make gains.

Last week, I got a call that wind pulled off our house roof in the village. Since they are using small torchlight phone, I didn't get to see how serious the situation was. Even though I didn't have money, I sent N15k to help fix it. My father later called me and complained bitterly on why I sent just 15k, that according to the carpenter, that materials and workmanship would cost N65k. In my mind, I was just like, does this man even know how I survive here in the city?

For two nights, they didnt sleep in the house as the wind pulled off the rooof.

On Tuesday, I learnt my younger brother was being operated of Hernia. I know about the hernia but was under plan to raise money for it. And I knew there was no money to settle medical bills for operation. So I was shocked where they got the money to do operation.

As I traveled down yesterday to see them, dear Nairaland friends, all my rubbers of palm oil has been sold and the money spent on fixing the roof and paying for the medical bills for the hernia operation without my notice.

I am not taking this kindly with my father who engineered the whole thing and I want to arrest him to refund my money.

That is my life investment and it took me so much to raise the amount. Due to how things are now. I even wanted to sell two rubbers to invest back as the business is facing challenges now.

What should I do here to recover my money back? If I have another money, I would over look it but that is my life investment of my labour.

Dear Nairalanders, I write this to help anyone suffering from Porn Induced Erectile Dysfunction. Because there’s a growing trend of healthy young men using medications like Viagra, Jedi, opaeyin, akeko, Ponkriyon, somboton, ori maalu, Oko oloyin and others. These are drugs intended for older men and those with health-related erectile dysfunction (ED).
Many of these young men (unknowingly?) use these drugs to treat a condition that is psychological rather than physiological: porn-induced erectile dysfunction (PIED).

Up until the last 2 decades, rates of ED were low in sexually active men under 40, and did not begin to rise steeply until thereafter. A major cross-sectional study reported erectile dysfunction in 5%, and low sexual desire in 5% of sexually active men, ages 18 to 59, and a meta-analysis of erectile-dysfunction studies reported consistent rates of 2% in men under 40 (except for the preceding study). These data were gathered before Internet “porn tube sites” like pornhub and xvideos, which have enabled wide access to sexually explicit content with no subscription required. The first of these “tube sites” appeared in September 2006 .
In contrast, recent studies on ED and low sexual desire document a sharp increase in prevalence of such dysfunctions in men under 40.

Repeatedly watching hard-core porn can have a similar effect on sexual performance. In other words, watching excessive porn changes the way the brain processes sexual arousal and activity, often leading to desensitization that lowers libido and causes psychological erectile dysfunction.

Q:Some say that men who watch too much porn can develop performance anxiety. Why does anxiety affect the ability to get and maintain an erection?

A:In addition, because a man’s brain has now become accustomed to getting stimulated at the sight of intense pornographic images, an ordinary encounter will cause the man to wonder if he will be able to perform at a similar level (e.g., for extended periods) as what has been observed in a pornographic video. Therefore, the performance anxiety is still related to the changes that occur in the brain and wondering if he can satisfy his partner in the manner that the brain has become used to. In other words, the anxiety is a direct result of worrying about being able to re-enact the sexual scenes in porn; this unrealistic goal can lead to performance anxiety. Subsequently, a man may get an erection, but after beginning to worry about whether he can perform like the actors in porn, the erection may soften or stop altogether.

Q: Does porn-induced erectile dysfunction cure itself if the man stops watching porn?


A: Discontinuing pornographic viewing does not automatically cure PIED. Furthermore, drugs such as Viagra or Cialis target the physical aspect of erectile dysfunction, not the psychological aspect. This means that a man will become completely dependent upon such drugs until the brain restores its ability to initiate an erection under ordinary sexual circumstances. A healthy relationship (e.g., marriage) with a patient partner can help a man overcome PIED over time.


Q: What form of treatment would you recommend a man who suffers from PIED?

A: Beneficial treatment would be in the form of individualized therapy, which may vary in time (e.g., weeks, months) depending on the individual and the degree of PIED. As PIED is often the result of an addiction to pornography, this form of treatment should be viewed as the first step to addiction recovery.
The purpose of therapy is to begin to desensitize the brain to the pornographic images and to address some of the reasons that the addiction to porn more than likely started. Men are also encouraged to reconnect intimately with their partners in order to help the brain restore its ability to initiate sexual arousal during ordinary sexual encounters. Overall, a man must be willing to give himself time to gradually overcome PIED
