Politics / Jonathan Okays N1.9bn To Fight Ebola Outbreak by OlusolaWarrior: 6:38pm On Aug 08, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan declares Ebola threat national emergency, approves N1.9bn for special intervention plan.
The president had earlier cancelled a trip to Imo State and called an emergency meeting of state officials to discuss plans on curbing the spread of the disease.
Though there is no official word from the presidency as to what the N1.9bn will be used for, it is believed that the sum is earmarked for procuring drugs from the United States to cure victims that are confirmed to carry the deadly virus.

iconize: Summons emergency meeting now?

For all I know, our government has completely failed us...

I think President Goodluck Jonathan's reaction to summon an emergency meeting in the wake of this disease should be commended. Already, the nation has other serious issues to contend with. Let us remember that it is just one man that can lead us at a time. Instead of causing distractions with criticisms, we should put heads and hands together to help resolve this issues. The daily killings and terrorism by Boko Haram is enough headache on its own. Trying to get those kidnapped Chibok girls back is another challenge that this nation currently grapples with, and the President's intention in this regard is not just to rescue the girls but to ensure that not even one of them is harmed in the process to getting them back. Let us be patient with our leaders, Nigerians. We have only one country we can truly call home.

LMAO @ "Ebola Ahmed Tinubu Virus". I didn't think of it that way. Bola Tinubu and his APC cohorts just want to swallow the entire state in their pockets. Na only them get Lagos ni? Lagos belongs to everyone living and working here. Not just Tinubu and Family.

Politics / Why Jonathan Shouldn’t Contest In 2015, By Igbokwe by OlusolaWarrior: 6:04pm On Aug 06, 2014
Pro-democracy activist Comrade Joe Igbokwe yesterday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to jettison his re-election bid because it is not in the nation’s interest.
He said the harassment of the opposition, the Boko Haram insurgency and impeachment of opposition governors underscored the President’s desperation to retain power.
The activist said these are among incidents that put democracy under threat.
Igbokwe, who addressed reporters in Lagos, stressed that if the quest for power was anchored on good performance, Dr. Jonathan is unfit for a second term because his handling of national affairs had been tragic and disastrous.
The activist urged the President to respect the zoning in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that Jonathan’s plan to rule for 10 years may break up the country.
The President has not declared his ambition for a re-election, but individuals and partisan groups have endorsed him for a second term and are urging him to publicly declare his interest.
Igbokwe said: “Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, from the South ruled Nigeria for eight years. It was also expected that the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, from the North, would rule for eight years, all other things being equal. But he died after two years in office. President Jonathan, Yar’Adua’s erstwhile vice-president from the South, took over the mantle of leadership. It was expected that he would complete the first term of Yar’Adua’s tenure and step aside for the North to complete their eight years.
“Against protests from the North, Jonathan sought another term and got elected. By 2015, he would have ruled for six years. Seeking another term of four years will endanger our polity and create ethnic and religious tension, as we are witnessing now. We are in a democracy and, if we are still one country, there is need for equity and justice. Jonathan’s ambition to rule Nigeria for 10 years may break Nigeria.”
The activist criticised the Federal Government for waging war against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in its desperation to make the PDP retain power.
He said the Presidency and the PDP have an agenda to decimate the opposition through crude means, citing the power plays in Ekiti, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Rivers and Edo states.
Igbokwe regretted that the PDP-led Federal Government is concentrating much effort on the emasculation of the opposition, instead of fostering good governance in the last 15 years.
He alleged that there was a curious media censorship and an affront on freedom of association, movement and expression by the Federal Government.
Politics / The Changing Face Of Greatness: Jonathan’s March To True Statesmanship by OlusolaWarrior: 5:17pm On Aug 06, 2014
He may not have the oratory skills of President Obama of the United States, or the brutish mien for which Russian leader Vladmir Putin is known for, but President Goodluck Jonathan is his own man. He exemplifies the age-old statement that actions speak louder than words.
True to his nature, President Jonathan’s achievements speak for itself. Since his ascension to presidency, Nigeria’s third president in the fourth republic has racked up an impressive resume. Unlike some leaders, he has chosen not to publicize his list of achievements; instead, the president continues to trudge on. What matters most is that the work gets done.
Nigerians cannot deny that President Jonathan has made giant strides in infrastructural development, economic growth and diversification, and wealth creation through initiatives that are geared towards job creation.

Politics / Re: Buhari’s Wife Asks President Jonathan To Resign Immediately by OlusolaWarrior: 3:50pm On Aug 01, 2014
So it is now that her husband seems to be a target that Nigerians get to hear her voice? I didn't even know Buhari had a wife that was allowed to speak publicly or on public matters for that matter. I thought Hausa women are supposed to keep mum. I can imagine she wants relevance. She somehow relishes the idea of wielding influence if her husband gets elected. Dream on, woman. We know your ilk; you've just shown us. You care only about your household. Young girls have been kidnapped for over a hundred days by these same brothers of yours and you had no grouse over that. You are a mother, for Christ's sake! If she had joined the train of women crusading and campaigning for the release of the Chibok girls like Dr. Oby Ezekwesili has been doing for several weeks now, then that would be understandable. But the case isn't so. It is now that her Megida seems to be a target of what the common man has had to endure that she feels concerned. Calling for President Goodluck Jonathan's resignaton wouldn't solve the problem. The president is doing the best job he can do at the moment. All nations battle insurgence of one form or the other. The United States, as powerful as it is, has some of its citizens whom it loves dearly, in the den of kidnappers around the world. Young American girls who go on school vacation are constantly kidnapped, drugged and sold into prostitution in Eastern Europe consistently; American servicemen are constantly kidnapped in the Middle East. That doesn't mean their president has to resign. What we should be doing as Nigerians is to encourage the man and proffer reasonable solutions. We all act like its easy and bring our couch potato attitude of criticizing football players into politics. If you want to make a change, look in the mirror and begin with the man you see in there!

ceo4eva: Wife of former Military Head of State, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), Hajiya Asiya Buhari, Thursday condemned the assassination attempt on her husband in Kaduna last week.

She therefore, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to resign from office, saying it was high time he did so.

In a terse statement made available to media houses, Asiya Buhari advised the President to follow the example of former South Korean Prime Minister, Jung Hong-won who resigned over his government’s handling of the ferry accident which left more than 300 people dead.
“As he saw grieving families suffering with the pain of losing their loved ones and the sadness and resentment of the public, he took responsibility as prime Minister; he apologised to his country and
resigned because of service to
humanity,” she said.
“Jonathan should emulate such a
leader, because Nigerians have been dying daily, for the four years, hoping that government is going to do something, but we are tired of this insecurity and increased attacks on innocent people.
“Where is Jonathan? What is he doing? If action is not taken now, when? It is not enough to verbally condemn; action is long overdue,”
Asiya concluded.

Politics / Re: See How Much Nigerian Billionaires Raised For Boko Victims by OlusolaWarrior: 3:15pm On Aug 01, 2014
I don't see this as putting the cart before the horse as you implied. There are victims, and we all know quite well there will be victims again until Boko Haram is completely wiped out. But until then, do you wish to see such victims of terror attacks (direct victims or close relatives that are bereaved as a result of loss) neglected and left to their mourn/grieve alone? Please note that such monies that would be given out to the victims would be used to help them resettle in other places, if need be, and as well to cater to their daily welfare until they can get some engagement that would earn them some income.

Here we go again...!!! Until the terrorists are taken out, the amount donated may soon become 'peanut' to the increased number of victims. If you ask me i see this as a case of putting the cart before the horse...!!!

Politics / The Emir Lied by OlusolaWarrior: 2:03pm On Aug 01, 2014
The Emir Lied
Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, will be remembered as a troublemaker of sorts during his tenure as CBN governor just as he was a reformer.
Without a doubt, Sanusi loves to revel in the news as the harbinger of change. Some of these changes obviously made Nigerian commercial banks stronger, but not without creating enemies in the process due to the political cum revolutionary way in which the erstwhile Central Bank Governor gored perceived enemies. In some quarters, Sanusi was seen as a tool in the hands of powerful northerners to take over banks in the South.
In as much as some of the policies introduced by Sanusi helped bring some sanity in the banking industry, his blatant interest in the political affairs of the nation miffed the public and was considered lousy by those who knew that the CBN governor’s responsibilities did not go beyond regulating the banking sector.
His vaunted desire for power was rumoured while he held sway at CBN and he showed this when he sauntered into the office in full emir regalia during working hours on a particular day, effectively enabling the media to capture the moment.
His desire for power also expressed itself when he publicly lied to the media, and Nigerians, that the NNPC was involved in a massive looting of the treasury due to the disappearance of a sum of $20 billion. The signs that he lied manifested itself earlier before the truth came to light when he suddenly said the amount that was missing was $20 billion and not $48 billion as he earlier said.
It took an investigation by the Nigerian Senate into the allegations and the suspension of Sanusi to unravel the truth. The committee that was commissioned for the investigation reported its findings in May 2014 and said that: “The CBN governor at the first hearing had forwarded the figure of $12 billion as money to be reconciled and changed his position to $20 billion at subsequent hearings. At the conclusion of his written submission, Sanusi posited that it could be $20bn, $12bn, $10.8bn or anything in between.”
Ordinarily, Sanusi ought to have been prosecuted for misleading the public and causing unnecessary distraction to public officials, but his recent ascent to the throne as the Emir of Kano, perhaps, absolved him from being charged.
Now, who is fooling who?
