Jonathan pays people to support him on social media. So what? And so effing what? The man is the president and he's doing the best he can; so do you say it is wrong for him to ward off all the distractions being caused by the opposition APC which is also paying people like you to assassinate his character? Abeg, find another topic discuss. You don't like Jonathan, then do yourself a favour by voting him out of office in 2015 and vote in your 73 year old Buhari and eBola Tinubu. Odeh.

Politics / 2015 Elections - Can It Be Free And Fair? by OlusolaWarrior: 6:28pm On Aug 19, 2014
The 2015 general elections are just a few months away. Nigerians need to make their votes count by coming out en masse to cast their votes for their preferred candidates. But can we count on INEC to conduct credible elections? Is President Goodluck Jonathan's administration committed to ensuring peaceful and credible elections?
I know these questions may seem a bit too early but the earlier they are asked, the better. I know there are people that wish to see GEJ return for another term, while there are others that would rather see someone else from another region in Aso Rock come May 29, but seriously what we need far more than anything else at this point is a process that will guarantee the election of the best candidate for the country. Can we count on INEC and GEJ to ensure credible elections?

Politics / Re: No Hope For Free And Fair Elections In An APC Led FG by OlusolaWarrior: 6:01pm On Aug 19, 2014
Truth has never been so spoken well.

ratiken: With the level of desperation shown by APC through propaganda, violent proclamation, negative politics and cult-like looting.......... There is no way an APC led FG will allow a free and fair election when they have all machineries of the state.

The reason our votes now count
The reason politicians now solicit and literally beg for votes
The reason politicians are now concerned about what the masses think about them
The reason Nigerians have become more self aware while waiting to make their statement at the polls

Is because one certain GEJ believes that power belong to the people and this has reflected in the quality of elections held under his care.

During OBJ, we never bothered cos we knew the results before going to the polls, we knew our votes never counted.

And if you ask me what fresh air means, I will point to this.

"There is also a petition against the Bayelsa Governor’s wife (the present first lady of Nigeria). She was involved in laundering to the sum of one hundred and four million into a foreign account. She is also being investigated.” Nuhu Ribadu in 2006"

"It's an undeniable fact, that President Jonathan has done well for Nigeria in such a very short time, and I think he is the answer to the prayer of many Nigerians. I must not be President, but I have vowed to support anyone who shares the same vision I have for Nigeria. And take it from me, President Jonathan has surpassed my vision for Nigeria"- Mallam Nuhu Ribadu August 18, 2014

Are you still in wonder as to why these politicians are ever capricious? You need not bother. Politicians have no permanent friends or foes; only interests. It is where their interest is that their heart lies. Ribadu has to eat. He has to advance his career. Like Atiku, like Ribadu.

Glad to know there are people that welcome rational criticisms of their leaders. We are talking about how Fashola, Tinubu and APC (AD/ACN) have failed Nigeria in the last 15 years and we have people shouting that they should not be touched. Typical Nigerians! Always enjoying to be shepherded to the edge of the cliff.

anonimi:

- What is the % of Out-of-School children in Lagos today?
- How has it changed from 1999?
- What % of even those children that are in school attend PUBLIC schools?
- What level of supervision/MONITORING is done on the private schools that have replaced LASG in its abandoned RESPONSIBILITY to educate our children?
- What is the % of households and buildings with TAP water in Lagos STATE?
- How has that improved/deteriorated since 1999.
- What is the condition of FEEDER/INNER roads all over the state?
- Is the Light Rail project completed three years after going to Canada to buy aloku, used & condemned trains?

Nairaland / General / Nigeria To Songhai: What's In A Name? Is It Necessary? by OlusolaWarrior: 4:03pm On Aug 18, 2014
Professor Akin Oyebode called for a name change to be made for the country in April. The professor made this proposal at the National Conference, asking that the name Nigeria should be changed to The United States of Songhai to reflect the federal and independent nature of the country since it was no longer under colonial rule.
He said, “I propose that we change the name of Nigeria to United States of Songhai just like Nkruma changed Gold Coast to Ghana,” adding that the country is operating caricature federation. Oyebode noted that the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, aptly said the country is running ‘feeding bottle’ federalism. The conference, he added, should consider the issue of fiscal federalism, true federalism, resource control or self determination.
Should Nigeria consider a name change?

Religion / Top Ten Reasons To Believe In The Christian Faith by OlusolaWarrior: 6:18pm On Aug 15, 2014
1. The Credibility of Its Founder: Peter spoke for Jesus' closest followers when he said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God." (John 6:68-69)

2. Reliability of Its Book: The integrity of this historical and geographical record is supported by archeology. The Bible continues to speak not only with spiritual power but with convincing prophetic accuracy.

3. Explanations for Life: It is the Christian faith that reflects a caring attention to detail so evident in the species and ecosystems of the natural world. It is Christ who clothed himself in our humanity to feel what we feel and then to suffer and die in our place.

4. Its Continuity with the Past: The Christian faith offers continuity with our deepest ancestral roots. Those who trust Christ are accepting the same Creator and Lord worshiped by Adam, Abraham, and Solomon.

5. Its Foundational Claim: The first Christians were witnesses. They risked their lives to tell the World that with their own eyes they had seen an innocent man die and then miraculously walk among them 3 days later.

6. Its Power to Change Lives: Not only were the first disciples dramatically changed but so were their worst enemies. Paul was transformed from a killer of Christians into one of their chief advocates (Galatians 1:11-24)

7. Its Analysis of Human Nature: The Bible says that society's real problems are problems of the heart. In an age of information and technology, failures of character have scandalized institutions of the family, religion, and the arts.

8. Its View of Human Achievement: Generation after generation has hoped for the best. We have conceived technologies that will deliver us from the oppressive slavery of work. Yet we are as close as ever to what the New Testament describes as the end times. (Matthew 24:5-31)

9. Its Impact on Society: From roof tops to necklaces to earrings, we see the sign of the cross, bearing visible witness to Christ's death. Social relief agencies have been fueled by the direct or residual values
of The Bible.

10. Its Offer of Salvation: No other faith offers everlasting life as a gift to those who trust the One who has overcome death for them. No other system offers assurance of forgiveness and adoption into the family of God.

Politics / Is Rabi'u Kwankwaso Behind Boko Haram And Northern Elders Forum? by OlusolaWarrior: 2:48pm On Aug 15, 2014
Recent comments by the governor of Kano State, Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso in the media is beginning to reveal sublime motives that may put the final nail to the coffin regarding the identity of Boko Haram sponsors. Remember how he chastised Nassarawa State Governor, Al Makura, stating that he suggested introducing his "foot soldiers" to foment violence in Nassarawa just about the time the latter was being threatened with impeachment in his state. The unguarded statements and threats by the Northern Elders Forum that President Goodluck Jonathan should release the kidnapped girls has also confirmed the suspicion that powerful elements in the north may be responsible for the terrorism over there. No doubt, we all know Kwankwaso has his eyes on the presidency, but should he put the nation at risk because of his selfish ambition?

Politics / President Jonathan's Promise Of Free & Fair Elections by OlusolaWarrior: 5:24pm On Aug 14, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan made series of statements at the Interfaith Conference held in Abuja yesterday (August 13, 2014), reiterating to ensure credible electoral process in Nigeria. Frankly, the president has been able to beat his chest in this regard. I think it's OK for we Nigerians to keep challenging our leaders to deliver the dividends of democracy to us; after all, they are our servants and are merely elected to serve our interests and not their own personal interests. Some success has been recorded in the transportation sector by this present administration (federal roads and rail). We NEED to ask that they should ensure quality supply of electricity as well and security of lives and property. While Nigerians understand that the president cannot do it all alone, which is the reason we have governors, LG chairmen, councillors, etc, we also understand that he is doing his job in the area of ensuring a system that guarantees that people's votes count. Even though this is part of his obligations as the head of state, we should continue to encourage and challenge him to do more in this area and other areas so that those coming after him would try to better his achievements. Below (in quotes) are some of the statements President Jonathan made at yesterday's Interfaith Conference in Abuja. Can we count on the president to improve?

"I once again assure Nigerians and the international community that the 2015 elections will come and go, and Nigeria will be stronger."
"The Nigerians I know and interact with everyday are only asking for one thing in the elections; transparency, and I have promised them.
"They want to vote and they want their votes to count; they don't want to be molested, they don't want ballot boxes to be hijacked by criminals.
"If they are convinced that the process is free, fair and credible, they have no reason to be angry; nobody can fight against one man, one vote, one woman one vote, one youth one vote and government will make sure that Nigerians are not killed during and after elections."

Politics / Re: Northern Elders Give Jonathan October Ultimatum To End Bokoharam Activities by OlusolaWarrior: 4:00pm On Aug 13, 2014
Aptly stated. These northern elders are the cause of the problem. They were watching and encouraging their children when they started it. Now the problem has grown beyond them. He who keeps assassins should be certain that he keeps giving them jobs. One day, they'll be thirsty for blood and will have no one to face but their keepers. Now that Boko Haram is murdering their own kith and kin by the scores, they remember that there is a president to call on. But their useless threat is what pisses me off. Even though it is a norther affair, it affects the rest of us in Nigeria as well. Foreign investors are reluctant to come to Nigeria to invest because of the scare of bombs going off anywhere at any time.

Krucifax: The Northern Elders should be ashamed of themselves. They and their people are part of the reason the Boko Haram situation exploded beyond all measure.

Many Northerners were sympathetic to the Boko Haram cause in the early days because they believed BH were fighting the cause of Islam and that only non-muslims and govt people were targets. But Boko Haram have since shown that everybody is now a legitimate target. The chickens have come home to roost and now they are crying foul.

Do you my fellow nairalanders not remember when the same Northern Elders in 2012 put out page after page in all the main newspapers condemning govt forces for killing Boko Haram members in the North. Then the Northern Elders referred to them as northern youths who were marginalized and frustrated. I'm not against any of my fellow Nigerians but we must speak the truth when we see it.

There is a proverb that says "The man who lets a snake dwell in his household, will one day cry tears of regret".

Politics / Unless You Produce Chibok Girls, You Can Forget 2015 - Northern Elders To GEJ by OlusolaWarrior: 3:51pm On Aug 12, 2014
The Nortrhern Elders Forum recently gave conditions to President Goodluck Jonathan, asking him to "produce" the kidnapped Chibok girls or risk losing the 2015 elections. While I applaud their grouse about the need for the president to make more efforts towards returning the girls, the northern elders should, as well, make efforts on their own part. Asking GEJ to "produce" the girls makes it seem as if the president is the kidnapper. Instead, the Northern Elders Forum should ask their own children and brothers (Boko Haram) to return their children. A Yoruba proverb says that "agba ki wa l'oja ki ori omo tuntun wo", which means that the elders cannot be around and things go awry. What were these so called Northern elders doing when their children started carrying guns, killing and kidnapping. Now, they're beginning to use the situation as a political pawn. Not good, I say.
Politics / President Jonathan; Guarantor Of Democracy, Free & Fair Elections? by OlusolaWarrior: 12:06pm On Aug 12, 2014
I've never been a fan of President Goodluck Jonathan. I didn't vote for him in the last elections and I've always said I won't vote for him in 2015 if he decides and is cleared to run. But I can't ignore the fact that he has enabled the country to hold peaceful and credible elections. The electoral body (INEC) has never been so transparent and professional in its duties. While I don't think it proper to commend a leader for carrying out his responsibilities, one shouldn't ignore the fact that we've had terrible leaders in the past, and as such good ones should be encouraged by commending them. Their heads won't swell too much. Will it?

Politics / Osun Guber: PDP Hails Jonathan Over Peaceful Poll by OlusolaWarrior: 11:51am On Aug 11, 2014
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Osun state governorship election as “a clear testimony to President Goodluck Jonathan’s unparalleled commitment to peaceful elections in Nigeria.”

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Sunday hailed the President for “creating the enabling environment for Osun people to freely and peacefully exercise their franchise without rancor or blood-letting”.

The PDP also commended the security forces for their display of professionalism in keeping the peace throughout the exercise despite provocations by desperate politicians.

It however called on the opposition to learn from the election and desist from actions and utterances that overheat the system and create room for violence.

“The lesson from this election is that the opposition party should stop crying wolf where there is none. They must desist from actions and statements that cause confusion and create unnecessary tension, capable of igniting violence and blood-letting in elections”, the party said.

Calling on its members and supporters to remain calm, the PDP also commended the people of Osun for adhering to rules and conducting themselves in an orderly manner during the election.
Politics / Jonathan Calls For Removal Of Age Limit For Qualification As President by OlusolaWarrior: 11:43am On Aug 11, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday in Abuja advocated the removal of the constitutional age limit of 40 years for qualification as president of the country.

Jonathan described this provision as discriminatory against young Nigerians, who he said have the energy, ideas and whatever it takes to lead the country to greatness.

Jonathan spoke at an international youth summit organised by the Nigerian Young Professionals Forum (NYPF) with the theme, “Capacity for Change for a New Nigeria’’.

He challenged the youth to forward a constitution amended bill to the National Assembly for the removal of all discriminatory provisions in terms of age, with a promise to support them.

The president differed with the Chairman and Founder of NYPF, Mr. Moses Siasia, who earlier in his speech, called for 35 per cent youth affirmation.

He noted that asking for a percentage amounted to self limitation as the youth have what it takes, especially the numerical strength to ascend the highest office in the land.

Health / Why Obama Should Not Give Us Ebola Vaccine by OlusolaWarrior: 7:25am On Aug 11, 2014
I read where people prayed President Obama of USA to grant the request of our Health minister and send us as matter of Urgency, the vaccine they developed that helped to stabilize those 3 Americans infected by the virus.

Then I read where America said they will not, and I agree with Americans on this? (Before you start spitting in my direction, just wait and hear me out.)

Years ago ,this same Americans invented HIV to help and put Africans in a sorry state ,they experimented with it in UGANDA and Kenya ,well it came ,it stayed and it killed us in droves but the good news is that American Men and Women love sex the same way Nigerians love US DOLLARS ,so American men and women who can have sex with duck, snake, rabbit, tortoise, dog, horse, monkey, chimpanzee , leprosy patient, grandmother (I will not count having sex with same Sex which they Anglicized to homosexual and lesbianism ,that will be story for another day).
So this children of gays came to same Uganda and start jerking off with anything that have hole ,no matter the position of the hole, suddenly they exported the same AMERICAN CREATION back to America and that was how they started working overnight and invented the stabilizer of that dreaded virus, after producing it ,they swore with White House that they cannot sell or give it to Africans ,that you must be an American to get access to it ,we did not argue ,we waited and when they cure 5 Americans another 15 will come to Africa and contract and contact same.

Freely we received and freely we give it back to them and it continue going round the world. Then they woke up at late stage and made the vaccine available free of charge.

Today we are begging them to send us the Ebola Vaccine and they keep on acting like children of Ebola, we are not worried; we are sitting by the side of dry wood ignited fire before Harmatan get to us; we have been sitting and eating birds killed by bird flu before they discovered that it kills them. So if they refused to give us this vaccine ,they should understand that our African gene are stronger than Caucasians and what take 7 days to kill one of us will take 8 hours to wipe out a village in Europe and America.

The Americans and Europeans should understand that anything that afflict Africans will definitely get back to them, so when we sneeze, they should run and get us anti sneeze serum; if we suffer constipation, they should thank God and send us a big batch of the drug and if they say HELL NO!, we will not contest because we have this adage that says "do not throw stone into the market place for your relation may have dashed into it to make a purchase".

Dear Americans, you have only 3 Ebola victims and you think it will start and stop with the 3? Do not worry, by the time the numbers of the cases in Africa gets higher, you will have your numbers multiply as well and we will be happy to help and export victims toward your sex hungry men and Women.

Health / Re: Ebola Latest: US Rejects Nigeria’s Request For Trial Drug by OlusolaWarrior: 2:26pm On Aug 09, 2014
We Nigerians are merely speculating that there is some sort of conspiracy to infect Africa with the virus for the purpose of depopulation. We are not certain of this. Enough of the rumours, abeg! Instead, let us put our heads together to find solutions for this. Africa is blessed with tons of herbs. Can't we find a natural cure for this scourge. I believe there's a herb for every ailment and we should encourage our traditional medicine men to come up with something if orthodox medicine can't help.

redcap: The United States of America, yesterday, dashed the hope of an early cure for Ebola Virus victims in Nigeria when it refused to share the trial drug with Nigeria. US President Barak Obama says it would be premature to share the experimental drug with Africa.

The Federal Government had earlier reached out to the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, in Atlanta, to request for the drug for treatment of EVD affected persons in Nigeria, but President Obama turned down the request, saying it would be far more beneficial to focus on prevention instead.
Nigeria recorded its first Ebola Virus disease fatality on Tuesday when one of the nurses who was one of the primary contacts of the American-Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, passed on. The doctor who treated Sawyer, who died in the country after flying into Lagos, is now ill with Ebola and six other primary contacts are currently ill with the disease in a Lagos hospital where they are quarantined.

Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu and Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku had disclosed on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja that the Federal Government was awaiting the response of the request it made to the CDC on Tuesday.

Addressing the 50 African leaders at the US-African Summit in Washington, President Obama stated that it is “premature” to send an experimental medicine for the treatment of Ebola to West Africa, as he lacked enough information to approve the drug that was already being used on two American aid workers whose conditions were said to have improved by varying degrees.

“We’ve got to let the science guide us and I don’t think all the information is in on whether this drug is helpful. The Ebola virus, both currently and in the past, is controllable if you have a strong public health infrastructure in place.

“The countries affected are the first to admit that what’s happened here is the public health systems have been overwhelmed. They weren’t able to identify and then isolate cases quickly enough.

“As a consequence, it spread more rapidly than has been typical with the periodic Ebola outbreaks that occurred previously,” he remarked.

Palliative

As a palliative, President Obama announced plans by the US to spend $110 million annually, for three to five years, totall ing $330-$550 million, to help African nations develop rapid reaction peacekeeping forces.

The Ebola virus causes viral hemorrhagic fever, which refers to a group of viruses that affect multiple organ systems in the body and are often accompanied by bleeding.

The experimental medicine is a three-mouse monoclonal antibody, meaning that mice were exposed to fragments of the Ebola virus and then the antibodies generated within the mice’s blood were harvested to create the medicine. It works by preventing the virus from entering and infecting new cells.

Developed by a San Diego Company, Mapp Biopharmaceutical, the experimental serum had never been tried before on human beings but had shown promise in small experiments with monkeys. Company documents show that four monkeys infected with Ebola survived after being given the therapy within 24 hours after infection.

In the monkeys, the experimental serum had been given within 48 hours of infection. Two of four other monkeys that started therapy within 48 hours after infection also survived. One monkey that was not treated died within five days of exposure to the virus.

Source:Nigeria recorded its first Ebola Virus disease fatality on Tuesday when one of the nurses who was one of the primary contacts of the American-Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, passed on.
