Hi,

The most important thing is that you treat it using Canadian standards. So I will suggest that you use one of the CIC approved hospitals because eventually u will have your medicals done at one of these designated hospitals anyway. Plus, they would have your medical history of the treatment and that will make things easy and straight forward.

My 2 cents.

Good morning

Good afternoon to you all.

So you guys will not mind me.

If there is anyone in Canada, I need the cost of Lab for CD4 count and Viral load please.

I am building a case for the fairness letter I anticipate I will receive. The only missing bit is the cost of the labs.

The treatment in Ontario will cost about CAD 2700 based on the regimen my wife is on. And at a threshold of $6,387 per year per person, my wife cannot be excessive demand.

Thanks.

Hello everyone,

Can anyone in Canada help me get me the average cost of lab investigating CD4 count and Viral Load?

Thank you.

@cd4 count...thats some good news and am happy u have accepted your responsibility.
Funny thing is that there are so many discordant couples living normal lives and if she doesnt have active TB,well I dont know y u want to exclude her although both go hand in hand.
First be very passionate about her health it will help to persuade the CIC and your physician that u can actually help her through it all even if you can afford it and with your case. Thus, she has to be consistent with the drugs and immune boosters at least for months till viral load is undetectable. Some drs may lay her off the drugs if her CD4 count is very high and viral load is undetectable. It depends on her physician.

So if she can achieve that and maintain it....she wont be a burden to the CA government.
So many non Nigerians living here have HIV and access our free drugs. The drugs are free for HIV and TB here.I think it is in most countries too.
Thanks bunni12.

She does not have active TB or any other disease for that matter. All other results were perfect.

The plan as a last resort was to exclude her if she was going to cause the application to be refused. And to allow me and baby to be granted. She actually proposed this. And once we are granted, we could get her a visitors visa for like six months to accompany us to go and come back after that. And then apply for another six months .... Then apply for US visa so that anytime she has to leave Canada for after six months, she would just visit family in US for like a week and return to Canada for another months.

We were just looking at something in the best interest of the child.

There is no ill intention and she was the one who actually proposed that.

there is a fairness letter thread on canada visa site.the thread will help a lot.also please get a Canadian lawyer to handle this case.
Thank you.

yes it is best to compare with the province u plan to reside which was stated in your application ,also the 2700cad ,i believe this is the current cost of medication but bear in mind cost of medication could increase at different stages so you have to consider this too.what is the cost of medication in a worst case scenario of an HIV patient, this should be considered too.I hope the 2700CAd is not based on the naira amount of drugs she uses now cos most of HIV drugs in africa are heavily subsidize by our govt and different international organisation, this may not be the case in canada.
Zaraman and Zandora,

Good morning.

The CD4 count for a healthy HIV negative person is between 500 - 1500. Some experts quote 500 - 1600. My wife's CD4 count is 516.
The point is that her immune system is as strong as a "normal" person living without the disease.

CD4 cells (often called T-cells or T-helper cells) are a type of white blood cells that play a major role in protecting your body from infection. They send signals to activate your body’s immune response when they detect “intruders,” like viruses or bacteria.

That was before she started the medication; which will suppress the virus from replicating. And in essence increase her CD4 count and viral load which will make her immune system even stronger. The viral load could even be undetectable and make transmission to another person or to a baby (if she gets pregnant) extremely rare.

Patients will CD4 counts less than 350 are the ones that get sick and become susceptible to "opportunistic diseases" which further damages their immune system and make things complicated. And hence increase the cost of medication etc. This happens when the infection is not detected early.

Based on my research and her CD4 count, she would live a "normal" life and will not even show any symptoms of the disease if she continue to take her medication. The cost will be the same and she would not need any hospitalization etc. What she would need will be two or three labs a year to check her CD4 count and viral load to ensure that the drugs are working.

If you are in Canada and you are reading this please help me check how much it will cost to do a lab to check CD4 count and Viral Load. I will need some email, phone numbers or web address as proof to build a convincing case.

Thank you.

But why are you comparing the costs using Quebec's or did you apply under Quebec skilled workers? You should compare the price with Federal prices and then if the amount is less than the threshold allowed explain this when replying the fairness letter you'll receive. Quebec is a different constituency than Federal.
Dear Zandora,

The Government of Quebec publishes a complete list of what they are willing to pay; my understanding is that this in turn is based upon the actual negotiated prices of the Canadian Government. I have checked the formularly for Ontario and Alberta and the quotations are similar. I am sure it will be similar for most of the other provinces.

Made enquiries for you only to discover the ailment wasn't what you claimed earlier. You may provide details regarding how and when you discovered(whether it is through a normal test or the Medicals you are doing for PR), how long you have to submit your medicals and what other family members(you and child) status is, I may then likely have an accurate response for you. Meanwhile, from the little I've gathered, it appears you can't leave her medicals out even if she's not following you. Also, feelers are that CIC sees other family members as potential health risks so, it might be more complicated than you presently know.
Hello JesusDWay

We got to know during the medicals as part of the PR process. I am negative. So is the baby.

The medicals have been submitted and she has been asked to come back to see a specialist. I am sure that would be for the individualized assessment. All other tests came out clean.

She has started medication and the cost of her current regimen (using approved generics) in Canada will be CAD 2700 using the Quebec formularly. The current medical threshold is 6,387 per year. Can I argue that is does not constitute excessive demand coz it is nowhere close to the official threshold? I could also self fund for five years by which time i would have found a job and include her on the company sponsored plan. I also sure that by five years time most of the other medications would have their patents expiring and that will further drive prices down. Generics already account for about 60% of all prescriptions in Canada saving the government over 7 Billion on 2010 alone.

What do you think?

zaraman:
i understand my brother,CIC cant just refuse your application they will always give room for you to explain things,be expecting a fairness letter soon.has she started any treatment? also i will advise redo the HIV test from another clinic just to be sure. cos in your response to the cic fairness letter, this are the kind of stuff you will have to explain to them, cost of her current medications and stuff.i will search for the thread and pm it to u, but i think you need a good canadian lawyer to help out here.it will be tough but still very possible.
Thank you so much for helping out.

She has started medication and I have looked at the generic version of her drugs in Canada using the Quebec formularly and price per year is around CAD 2700. So the crux of my argument will be that the cost would not exceed the current threshold of CAD 6,387 per year.

Again, at CAD 2700, I could self fund for about five and still provide the amount required for the proof of funds.

As an economic migrant I am hopeful that I would have secured employment by then and most like get her covered under my employer's plan which would likely extend to her. Or worst case scenario continue to self fund the cost of the medication.

What do you guyz think?

Good evening to you all.

Bro. I think you should defer everything until she is cleared. It seems to me her wellness should be first. EE, FSW, CA immigration etc. will always be there. Even if one advances in age, PNP will be another route. In my opinion, her wellness and other members of the family being around her is more important.
Please, the above are just my views and could well be taken with a pinch of salt.
Thank you. Etfash.

I have explained time and time again that no matter what you do, as long as you're still married she'll need to provide and pass her medicals before you're admissible to Canada. The only way to exclude her from your application and she not providing her medical exams is if you guys divorce.
Thank you Zandora

That treatment is free further justifies the fact that it would be an excess demand on the economy. Treatment being free means that the government would fund 100% of the treatment via tax payer's money. It is this kind of situation CIC tries to avoid hence why they prohibit those ailments that would constitute excessive demand on the economy. BC is therefore a bad choice.
@Zandora,

Thank you. Didn't know that.

As a last resort, can I write to CIC and say that I would like to exclude/remove her from the application? Is that possible and what will the implication(s) be?

Hi Ethan,

TB is a lot different from HIV. TB will become inactive after proper treatment. So, you should focus on getting treatment for your wife immediately after which you can both get your PPR.
Dupyshoo,

I have been away to handle some jobs since submitting ourselves from the medicals.

I just got to know the worse as well.

That is why I asked about HIV too.

I really need help. If it is possible to switch my province to BC that would be great because from what I read in the article treatment is free and so CIC cannot say that treatment will be excessive demand on the medical system.

I need help.

Does someone become medically inadmissible if he/she is diagnosed to be HIV positive?

Thank you.

She has done the medicals already. What if I exclude her and file for her later when I have settled in Canada. What will be the implication?

Thank you.
Thank you so much @Zandora and Dupyshoo.

I applied under the FSW 2014 stream and we have all gone through the medicals. And her results came out as having active TB. In order not to render both of us inadmissible, I would want to exclude her by saying she would not be accompanying and then file for her to join me once I settle there. That will be better than both of us being refused the visa after all this wahala and waiting for so long. Not to mention the amount of money spent on this.

I want to know if this is possible and what the implication(s) would be.

Good morning to you all.

Ethan.

Unfortunately regardless of if she's accompanying you or not she'll need to do the medical exams and if she's found inadmissible because of her medicals then it would also affect you. My advice would be that you should wait until she's been cleared of the TB.

Hi Ethan,

I don't want to read and run away. I am not sure but I think you will be required to provide medicals for your wife whether she will be accompaning you or not. Hence, I think her medical result will have an implication on the success of your application.

You can apply and attach a LOE indicating she will not be joining until she finishes her treatment. I believe that's the best you can do.

Please wait for comments from other members as I am not sure.
Dupyshoo,

I cannot thank you enough. She has done the medicals already. And because I do not want her condition to affect the whole family, I wanted to exclude her and file for her later when I have settled in Canada. What will be the implication?

Hello everyone,

My name is Ethan and I have a pertinent issue and I was directed here by someone to get a solution.

I applied for Permanent Residence is Canada but the medicals show that my wife has Active TB which might render us inadmissible until it is treated by Canadian standards. And that is going to take some time. We did not plan for this. We thought we could be in Canada by year end.

I have discussed with my wife and I want to know if I can send them a mail to say that I will be emigrating alone which should allow them to proceed with the application to finalization. Once I have there, I could file for my wife to join me once she has gone through the medical procedures to have the TB treated.

Can that be done.
