Politics / Oyo Pays N201m Gratuity For 90 Retirees by Oluwaseyi1234: 6:31pm On Jul 24, 2018
The Oyo State Government on Monday released the sum of Two Hundred and One Million, Five hundred and Eighty Five Thousand and Eighty-Nine Naira, Twenty Kobo (N201,585,089.20) for another set of 90 retirees to offset their outstanding gratuities.
The government said that the payment was for the payment of year 2011 to January 2012 gratuity for the retired civil servants and teachers under the payroll of the state government across all the Grade levels.

The State Head of Service (HoS), Mrs. Olawumi Ogunesan, while disbursing the Cheques on behalf of the State Government to the beneficiaries at the Old Ministry of Establishment and Training, Secretariat, Ibadan, assured that Government will continue to pay the gratuities to the Pensioners based on merit without any influence or favour.

Mrs. Ogunesan, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Adejoke Eyitayo, said that government was making concerted efforts to ease the pains of the pensioners in the state, stressing that the disbursement was done to make life meaningful for the senior citizens who had served the state meritoriously for thirty-five years.

The HoS appealed to those that are yet to receive theirs not to lose hope, noting that efforts are in top gear towards the payment of their gratuities as soon as possible.

Mrs Ogunesan advised the beneficiaries not to venture into a business without having in-depth knowledge in such business and abstain from fraudsters who may want to dupe them.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Owoeye Taiwo and Mr. Adewuyi Ajani thanked the Oyo State Government and Governor Abiola Ajimobi for releasing the huge amount of money as their gratuities despite the paucity of funds in the State.

The duo reiterated that the procedures followed in paying the money was purely on merits as nobody collected anything from them before releasing the money.

It would be recalled that State Government released the sum of Two Hundred Million, Nine hundred and Sixty three Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety Two Naira, Eight Six Kobo (N200,963, 492.86) for the payment of year 2011, 2012 Gratuity for the retired Civil Servants of the State in Grade level 01–07 in May, 2018.

Politics / Oyo: Restoring The Pacesetter’s Glory. by Oluwaseyi1234: 12:10pm On Jul 15, 2018
By the time the tenure of the present administration of Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Governor of Oyo State draws to a close in May 2019, one thing would have become clear, that the governor had been able to restore the state to its past glory of many firsts which earned it the tag of the Pacesetter State.

Indeed, Oyo State has always been a state of many firsts, not only in Nigeria but also in Africa. It was the state every other state in the country aspired to match which could be attributed to the originality, resourcefulness and the pioneering nature of the people of Oyo State.

For the records, some of the groundbreaking feats that cemented the status of Oyo State as the pacesetter in Nigeria and Africa include, being home to the first television station in Africa (NTA Ibadan); the first stadium in Africa (Liberty Stadium, Ibadan); the first skyscraper (the 24-storey Cocoa House in Ibadan); the first dualised road in Nigeria (Queen Elizabeth Road, Ibadan); the first teaching hospital in Nigeria (the University College Hospital, Ibadan) and the first housing estate in Nigeria (Bodija Housing Estate, Ibadan), to mention a few.

But all these feats were achieved decades ago in the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Ladoke Akintola as premiers of the Western Region. But, Oyo State has been practically living on past glories.

Successive administrations in the state have struggled unsuccessfully to maintain this enviable status, due to lack of innovative ideas and visionary leadership, until Governor Abiola Ajimobi appeared on the scene.

And now, after seven years of the Ajimobi administration, the song has finally changed, likewise the drumbeat, for residents of the state.

Once again, Oyo State has begun to live up to its tag as the nation’s pacesetter. In Education, for instance, the successful introduction and implementation of the School Governing Board (SGB) and OYOMESI (Oyo State Model Education System Intervention) policies have caught the attention of other South-West states, which are already scrambling to adopt them.

This futuristic policy that emphasizes participatory management of public secondary schools and the promotion of moral uprightness in students has proved a sustainable solution to the perennial problem of inadequate funding of education in the country.

Also, these unique initiatives have already achieved significant result with the state recording its best WAEC result in the last 18 years, while several respected public commentators have also recommended the wholesale adoption of the policy to the Federal Government. Since, the introduction of the SGB model, about N2billion has been expended on public education.

Not done, the state government followed up this well-acclaimed policy with the state’s Health Insurance Scheme, another innovative strategy designed to ensure unfettered access to healthcare services by residents of the state, most especially the vulnerable class.

With the inauguration of the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme on May 25, 2017, followed by the launching of a N50 billion Healthcare Endowment Fund for the “restoration and transformation of government hospitals and health centres in Oyo State”, on August 3, same year, the state has again set another pace for others to follow.

The measure adopted by the state government involved fostering strong partnerships with the private sector, development partners and other stakeholders in the health sector to pool resources, knowledge and skills that would ultimately help in achieving the desired goal of improved access to affordable and high-quality healthcare service delivery across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the health insurance scheme, the Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, noted that scheme was the first by a state government in the country. “We have taken Oyo State higher than we met it.

This health insurance scheme is for everyone, especially the poor and that is why we have pegged the registration at N200 only and a monthly premium fee of N650. It is free for children under age five and pregnant women.

“This scheme is one among the various health initiatives we offer our people to give them accessible, affordable and quality healthcare. The free health service, where several people are being treated, is presently going on across the state. We are committed to making life meaningful for our people and everything humanly possible to achieve this will be done.”

In concrete terms, the endowment fund is expected to provide the much-needed funds for the renovation and upgrading of all primary and secondary health institutions in the state, including 57 General Hospitals and 622 Primary Health Centres; procurement of medical equipment and consumables, as well as training and motivation of medical personnel.

Also, in a bid to ensure that tertiary education is driven by the demands of the labour market and students are equipped with relevant skill sets, the Ajimobi administration conceived and successfully established the first Technical University in Nigeria. The university, which has commenced academic activities, will ensure that youths are armed with practical and entrepreneurial skills that will make them employable and employers of labour.

It is also on record that Ajimobi built the first ever flyover by any civilian administration in the state. This feat successfully decongested the once intractable traffic at the popular and ever-busy

Mokola roundabout in the heart of Ibadan metropolis.

Also, his administration was the first to construct inner city dual-carriage roads across the five zones in the state and has been acknowledged as having constructed more roads than the previous civilian administrations combined. Several other road dualisation and expansion projects are ongoing in different parts of the state, including Ibadan, the capital city. Ajimobi scored another first when he flagged off the construction of the N70bn circular road in Ibadan, which was conceived about 15 years ago.

The ongoing ‘Safe City’ project is another first by any administration in the state. The idea is to assist the various security agencies with modern technology that will ensure greater effectiveness in their operations.

Currently, the government is installing surveillance cameras in identified black spots and other strategic locations across the state capital as part of the first phase of the project.

Also, figures by the National Bureau of Statistics have shown that Ajimobi’s administration has attracted more industries to the state than any of his predecessors. And despite all, the governor is not resting on his laurels. He is, without a doubt, geared up to accomplish more unique and unprecedented feats before the expiration of his tenure.

Finally, if I may add, history will never forget that Governor Abiola Ajimobi was first to win a second term of office since the creation of Oyo State.

Politics / 35 Refurbished Patrol Vehicles, APC To Boost Oyo Security by Oluwaseyi1234: 4:17pm On Jul 11, 2018
Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday handed over 35 security patrol vehicles and one armoured personnel carrier (APC) to security agencies in the state.

The vehicles, which were reportedly refurbished with over N80 million, will enhance and strengthen the state’s security architecture.

The handover ceremony, an initiative of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF), held at the Oba Akenzua Crescent, Onireke, Ibadan secretariat of the trust fund.

The state police command, the Army, the Air Force, the Directorate of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) and the state-owned anti-crime security outfit codenamed, Operation Burst, benefitted from the refurbished vehicles.

Besides, 15 batteries and 30 tyres were presented to the Operation Burst team, while 20 new tyres were also given to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Members of the State Executive Council (Exco), heads of the security outfits, religious leaders, traditional rulers, among others, attended the ceremony.

Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Moses Adeyemo, noted that the presentation of the patrol vehicles was the third phase of government efforts to improve the operational capabilities of security agencies in the state.

Ajimobi said: “Since the inception of this government in 2011, peace and security were made the key vital points in which any meaningful development could be achieved. We are happy to say we have moved the state away from the brigandage and impunity we met then.

“However, we still need to do more. It was on this basis that the Oyo State Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF) was established as a Public-Private Initiative in 2012 to assist security agencies in the state by providing funds for the acquisition and deployment of security equipment for all security agencies operating in Oyo State. The Trust fund has been operating since November 2013, after the inauguration of its Board of Trustees (BoT).

“To make OYSSTF more effective and improve its performance as well as address its operational impediments, there was need for it to be solely private sector-driven and the process of inauguration of a new BoT, therefore, commenced. The trust fund is, therefore, poised to match and achieve greater goals.

“To this end, the enabling law of OYSSTF has now been amended by the Oyo State House of Assembly to incorporate the introduction of security levies into it to the effect that corporate organisations, including religious and other social bodies, are made to pay yearly security levies to the trust. This is to ensure that these organisations fulfil their roles as responsible corporate citizens by contributing their quota to the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in Oyo State.”

Politics / I Will Continue To Do The Best For Oyo State, Apc — ajimobi by Oluwaseyi1234: 12:22am On May 09, 2018
Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has advised aggrieved stakeholders in the just concluded ward congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to explore the party’s internal organs for seeking redress rather than engaging in actions capable of further sowing the seed of discord within the party.

As leaders and stakeholders in the party, the governor said it would be counter-productive to engage in actions and utterances that tend to further divide the party, adding that he would on his own part continue to do the best for Oyo State.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Mr. Bolaji Tunji said the advice became necessary in view of the utterances credited to the Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu and his cohorts in the aftermath of the ward congresses held on Sunday.

The governor said that the minister should be the one to be afraid of going to jail in view of the damaging allegations made against him by all his aides who resigned en mass following his refusal to pay their emoluments.

“In any case, Shittu should be the one that should be afraid of going to jail in view of many allegations made against him as minister. Few of these are his alleged illegally-acquired property in Ibadan and Abuja and sudden unexplainable and stupendous wealth not commensurate with his emoluments.

“In addition, his recent attempt to covert and appropriate a parcel of land belonging to Saki community, which was stoutly resisted by his own people, has shown his level of greed, avarice and penchant for appropriating what does not belong to him.

``Governor Ajimobi remains a distinguished Senator of the country who had successfully traversed the corporate world and got to the peak of his career as the Managing Director and Chief Executive of a multinational; a position that requires a high degree of integrity, ability and capability.

``All these attributes have reflected in the way he has successfully managed the affairs of the state in the last seven years, which has transformed the face and fortunes of the state and had attracted unmatched number of investors to the state.

``Similarly, Governor Ajimobi’s track record in his first term earned him an unprecedented second term, a feat for which he would forever remain grateful to the good people of the state.

``Something that cannot be taken away from Governor Ajimobi is his unrepentant commitment to the assurance of peace, safety and security across the length and breadth of Oyo State, which had hitherto been under the control of some erstwhile garrison commanders.

Having consistently won elections over the years, Ajimobi remains a man to be rivaled by politicians who are known to be serial election losers and now desperate to become the governor of Oyo State where governance has been raised beyond the limit of people with mediocre ability.

In the last seven years, Ajimobi has managed the affairs of Oyo State prudently and with the fear of God, and will not be distracted from his well-articulated programmes of security, safety and peace as well as the developmental strides which the administration has been known for; until May 29, 2019 when he will hand over to a worthy, capable, seasoned and tested successor.

``Ajimobi remains the leader and father of the APC and will continue to work towards the success of the party at the state and national levels, and the progress of the state.

Politics / Oyo: Ajimobi Expresses Satisfaction With Peaceful Ward Congress by Oluwaseyi1234: 8:45pm On May 06, 2018
Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the rescheduled ward congress of the All Progressives Congress held across the state, on Sunday.

A statement by the Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy to the Governor, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, quoted the governor as having said that feelers from the five zones of the state suggested that the exercise went without hitches.

Ajimobi described Saturday’s disturbances at the APC state secretariat, which forced the postponement of the congress till Sunday, as one of those things expected in a political gathering of highly placed political leaders with vested interests.

According to him, followers and supporters of such leaders have been known to instigate crisis in their bid to outdo one another and to impress their principals, who often time were never in support of such violent conducts.

The governor said, “the reports I have heard so far across the state indicate that the congress went peacefully without any form of acrimony or rancour. That is what we have been preaching and I’m happy that the players have embraced peace.

“As the leader of the APC in the state, I’m also father to all and that informed my conciliatory moves. No good father will stand aloof while his children are at loggerheads. Thank God all have been settled now and we have had a peaceful outing today (Sunday).

“As the leader and father to all, I was able to douse the tension that enveloped the party secretariat on Saturday when our supporters were trying to outdo one another. All the APC leaders that came for the stakeholders’ meeting were well protected.

“I even shielded one of our honourable members from the House of Representatives from reprisal attack from those who attempted to assault him. APC is one large family. There may be diverse interests, but we are one.

“I will continue to sue for peace among our leaders and followers, because that is the cardinal programme and achievement of our administration. Our party and administration are known for peace and that must be sustained.”

The governor debunked some newspapers report, which claimed that the incident at the APC secretariat was a ‘bloody violence,’ describing it as exaggeration.

Ajimobi said that none of the security agencies reported any case of bloody violence, advising political leaders to refrain from heating up the polity with their utterances.

Meanwhile the APC in the state has commended the Ward Congress Committee led by Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed for the professional way it conducted its task.

In a statement issued by Hon. Mojeed Olaoya, the party Secretary, members across the 351 Wards of the state were also commended for their orderliness in the discharge of their onerous responsibility to elect new executives that would pilot the affairs of the Party for the next four years.

“It gladdens our heart that the Congress went smoothly and was very successful across all the 351 Wards without any skirmishes or violence against the wish of the so called Unity forum.

Olaoya said all the 351 Wards Congresses were monitored by INEC officials and all the Security agents to authenticate the exercise.

The Party Secretary advised members of the Unity Forum to always embark on moves that would promote the unity of the party instead of being divisive.

He said, “ It is surprising that they could be passing on lies that some aspirants did not pay for nomination and that there were fake nomination forms in circulation.

"The claim is spurious and unfounded. They are calling the integrity of top APC members deployed in Oyo for the exercise to question. This is not good for the image of our party in Oyo State. "

Oyo rehabilitates Eleyele dam to end frightening flooding in Ibadan, enhance water supply — Ajimobi

The proposed rehabilitation of the Eleyele Dam, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, will substantially enhance residents’ access to potable water, as well as save the city from frightening flood incidents.

The Governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, stated this at a ceremony to flag off the rehabilitation project, held at the premises of the dam, in Eleyele, Oke Badan LCDA, Ibadan, on Friday.

Ajimobi, who was represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Chief Isaac Isola, said the rehabilitation project was one of the befitting legacies he wished to be remembered for.

He said that the contractor handling the overhaul of the dam, Messrs CGC-CHWE Joint Venture, and other partners, had been given a maximum of 24 months to complete the project.

The governor explained that the devastating effect of an August 26, 2011 flooding spurred the government into embarking on comprehensive flood control measures across the city, including dredging of river channels and construction of bridges.

Ajimobi said, “One of the major challenges that first confronted this administration upon our assumption of office in 2011 was the devastating flood of August 26, 2011; an unfortunate incident that ravaged many parts of Ibadan.

“This Eleyele Dam, which was approaching its 70th anniversary then, was badly hit, leading to an overflow of the dam and degradation of the appurtenant structures.

“The implication of this was that one of the two fictional values of the Eleyele Dam, which was to help flood control during high flow periods through its reservoir holding capacity, had been compromised!

“Unlike the piecemeal and largely reactive responses of past administrations in the state, we decided to take the bull by the horns in our determined efforts to change the narratives of perennial flooding in Ibadan. The ceremony we are holding today is one of such efforts.

“On completion, the dam will have improved capacity to contain flooding in and around Ibadan. Yet another derivable benefit is that the capacity of the dam to supply treated water to the city of Ibadan and would be greatly boosted.”

In his address, the Commissioner for Finance, Planning and Budget, Mr. Abimbola Adekanmbi, said the contractors and supervising consultants for the project were selected through World Bank standard competitive bidding process.

He explained that the project scope included raising of the dam embankment crest from its existing height of 183.6m to 185.4m ask, erection of 1.0m high concrete parapet wall and increase on the discharge capacity of the spillway from 368.9m3/s to 1269m3/s.

Adekanmbi added that there would also be an increase in the width of the spillway channel to enhance its discharge capacity, rehabilitation of the intake tower in order to fully restore its capacity to supply raw water from the reservoir to the treatment plant, among others.

Politics / A 72 Billion Naira Dry Port Is Coming To Oyo State - The Gains, The Lessons by Oluwaseyi1234: 1:11pm On Apr 18, 2018
1. A dry port (sometimes inland port) is an inland intermodal terminal directly connected by road or rail to a seaport and operating as a centre for the trans-shipment of sea cargo to inland destinations.

2. The Ajimobi-led government has provided 60,000 hectares of land in lieu of a partnership with the Nigeria Shipper's Council to bring this kind of modern Dry Port described above to Oyo state.

3. This Modern Dry Port coming to Oyo is the latest attestation to the Investment-friendliness that has surged in the past 6 years, and it will be situated along the Oyo-Ibadan expressway.

4. Named "The Ibadan Fry Port", is estimated to provide 10,000 direct jobs, as it'll serve as the main conduit for the passage of goods to the entire southwest and other parts of Nigeria.

5. Additionally, and for efficiency, the Ibadan Dry port will have a 35,000 hectare Truck Transit Park, set up together with it.

6. On its own, the Truck Transit Park will generate an additional 25,000 jobs, as it will provide added security for cargoes through seamless tracking of goods.

7. By gains, this Ibadan Dry Port is set to geometrically boost the internally-generated revenue of Oyo state.

8. The overall economic benefits and impact are massive, especially for the people, as there'll be maximization of the employment opportunities.

9. Also, there will be a reduction in road carnage along the expressway, as this dry port is poised to function together with the ongoing Lagos-Kano Rail project, decongesting heavy traffic on the road.

10. Ultimately, a key lesson here is that the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led government has proven again, that consistently attracting investments of this size and impact to the state, is NOT rocket science.

“The AD project is a successful project that Thailand has been pushing in many countries with economic interest under the assistance and cooperation of UNODC. The same project was also recently launched in Afghanistan.

“As the ambassador of my country that has been launching this project in many countries, I have no reason not to do same in Nigeria and Oyo State. That is why after our discussion at Abuja, I decided to come here to explore possibilities of launching this project.

“It is a privilege for me to have had a fruitful discussion with the governor where we discussed potentials of the state, in terms of logistics, agricultural production chain and means of enhancing the development of cooperation between Thailand and Oyo State.”

As a follow up to the discussion, the envoy said that a team of specialists from Thailand would soon visit the state to fine-tune the agreement and commence work immediately after.

On his part, the NDLEA boss said Oyo was the first state in the country to convert a land that was formerly being used for planting marijuana to plant legally acceptable agricultural products.

He told his host that the AD approach being introduced in the state had received the blessing of UNODC’s Executive Director in Vienna, Austria, Mr. Yury Fedetov,.

Abdallah said, “The last time I was in Vienna, Mr. Yury Fedetov was briefed about the situation in Oyo State and he expressly gave his nod to the possibility of cooperation between Thailand and Oyo State on AD plan.

“This visit will further cement that agreement and I’m confident that we will soon reach a workable agreement and cooperation on this.”

Responding, the governor disclosed that the state had already created a committee for the AD project, which he said would cover agriculture, health, culture and tradition, which he said would take off in the next three months.

Ajimobi said, “Your visit to Oyo State will go a long way in developing a bilateral relationship which will lead to more economic benefits for the state.

“We have already set the ball rolling by creating our own committee which will come up with a list of what to do and our relationship will be based on commercial, industrial and trade. We believe and we are anxious to see something tangible starting in the next three months.”

Politics / Safe City Project : Oyo Govt. Introduces Security Levy by Oluwaseyi1234: 12:28am On Feb 27, 2018
IN line with the government’s commitment to boost security and enhance safety of lives and property, the Abiola Ajimobi led Oyo state government through its trust fund dubbed ‘Oyo State Security Trust Fund’,OYSSTF says it was set to implement a compulsory security levy in the state.

Formally announcing the introduction of
the levy on Monday, the government said it would be tailor-made to suit the economic profile of the state as well allow corporate bodies, individuals and all residents to contribute to the security of the state.

The state governor, Abiola Ajimobi made the disclosure, while addressing stakeholders at a town hall meeting entitled: ‘Public-Private Partnership in Security Funding: Introduction of Security Levy in Oyo State,’ organised by OYSSTF at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Secretariat, Ibadan.

According to him, an enabling law of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF) as amended by the state House of Assembly was to pave way for the operation of a private sector driven OYSSTF to incorporate the introduction of the security levy into law to the effect that corporate organisations, religious and other social bodies are made to pay yearly security levies to the Trust Fund.

Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo, informed that the security levy was introduced “to ensure that all stakeholders fulfill their roles as responsible citizens of the state and by contributing their quota to the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in Oyo State.

“It is not in doubt that our security agencies have faced a serious shortfall in funding. Funding Oyo State Security Trust Fund is the key to achieving all these goals. On our part, this hover has granted a one per cent security tax on all contracts executed on behalf of the state government, and I am also aware that these deductions have assisted the Fund in the past year.

“For the furtherance of our agenda on safety and security, we have embraced the safe city project, which will proffer cutting edge solutions that will nip crime and criminality in the bud, especially in our major townships. We are currently installing closed circuit television (CCTV) in black spots and business districts in the city to enhance our security architecture. I ask all the stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the security levy collection exercise that is to commence shortly.”

Describing the idea of state police as a step in the right direction, the governor averred that the present federal structure of security agencies is not sustainable.

He further noted that the existing structure in the state should be strengthened and not abandoned, adding that in more than six years, the scorecard of his administration, which are peace and security, suggested that “we did not only dream about the desire to make the people of Oyo State sleep with their two eyes firmly shut, we have achieved it. We have reined in the rapacious drivers’ unions and clamped down on all brigands in the state.”

“We inaugurated the joint security outfit codenamed ‘Operation Burst’ with six zonal commands. To give the outfit the needed bite, we procured armoured personnel carriers, a fleet of patrol vehicles and equipped them with state-of-the-earth communication equipment for their operations.

“To enlist the support of stakeholders, we went a step further by floating the Oyo State Security Trust Fund to raise funds for the improvement of the security architecture of the state. The result of these efforts is a drastic reduction in crime rate and civil unrest manifesting in no major crime or robbery in the last six years”, he said.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of OYSSTF, Chief Bayo Adelabu, said the organisation intends to transform the security apparatus in the state from being a reactionary one to an anticipatory one. He added, “ this vision can be achieved only if there is an upward review in funding of areas such as rehabilitation of existing barracks and quarters, procurement of arms and ammunition, purchase of vehicles, helicopters, surveillance cameras and maintenance of existing stocks as well as procurement of kits and basic equipment for officers.”

Adelabu, disclosed that OYSSTF has donated 66 Hilux vans to security agencies, stressing that other areas of concern include the establishment of forensic laboratories and upgrade of all police stations across the state to be information technology compliant, as provided for in the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

“A proper fund base is needed for this transformation and the security level will be tailor-made to suit the economic profile of Oyo State. With proper fund base, Oyo State Security Trust Fund will channel these funds to the weak spots within the state security apparatus”.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abiodun Odude, lauded the Governor Ajimobi-led administration for introducing OYSSTF and ‘Operation Burst’ , saying with this, the government has placed security issues on the front burner. He maintained that security agencies have been trying their best with government’s support to nip crime and criminality in the bud, noting that security is a collective responsibility of all and sundry.

According to him, in the last one year, the police “have arrested more than 1,000 members of ‘One Million Boys’ and we have charged over 400 of them to court, ” saying the police need intelligence to work with.

Also, the President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Yemi Soladoye, who spoke at the event urged the OYSSTF to identify the peculiarities of each zone of the state such as Ibadan, Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Ibarapa with a view to tackling insecurity headlong.

He advised that eminent people from each of the zones should be captured into sub-committees for their cities in order to ensure the effectiveness of the project.

The town hall meeting was well attended by top government functionaries, members of the state executive council, service commanders in the states, royal fathers, religious leaders, traditional leaders, community leaders, sociocultural groups, traders, local security groups, artisan, representatives of market women among others.

Politics / Adeoyo State Hospital To Benefit From ₦50 Million Ibadan Descendants Union Proje by Oluwaseyi1234: 12:19pm On Feb 15, 2018
The United States chapter of the Ibadan Descendants Union has said that Adeoyo State Hospital, Ibadan, will benefit from the N50m it budgeted for various projects in the Oyo State capital.

While handing over the Ward 1 of the hospital, which was recently renovated by the association, the president of the union, Laja Akintayo, told the representatives of the Oyo State Government and the Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Board, Dr Adegoke Adeyemo, that the body had established an Ibadan Initiative Project for the purpose of developing the health sector in the city.

Also at the event was the President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Yemi Soladoye, and the hospital management team.
Akintayo noted that there were records of people dying of manageable and treatable ailments because they did not have access to medical facilities.

Stressing that the union had decided to partner some health organisations in the US with the aim of bringing basic health care system closer to the people, he said, “We have initiated an action plan, which we are using to reach Ibadan land and other towns. The Ibadan Initiative Project of IDU is working to take care of three core areas. They are education, health and community development. This is just the starting point of our health intervention, although it is not the first project that IDU will be executing at the Adeoyo State Hospital.

“The IIP will in the next nine months spend N50m on various projects in Ibadan. We are working closely with the CCII to provide healthcare to our people. People are dying of ailments, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, that are supposed to be manageable. This is the kind of health awareness that we are going to provide. We are partnering some organisations in the US to make this happen.”

He said the union had already sunk a borehole to boost water supply in the ward and promised that it would sink more for the hospital’s use.

“We are adopting the Ward 1 by taking care of the facility in it, maintaining the ward and providing other needs of the ward that could arise as time goes on. We have also provided a borehole to supply water to the ward and other buildings within the hospital.”
“Many do not know that at 40, it is important for a man to do Prostate Specific Antigen scan. Some of our women are suffering from breast cancer unnecessarily.

If they had access to adequate healthcare and the right equipment, their lives would be saved before the cancer gets to a dangerous level. We will still do more with the management of this hospital. Government cannot do this alone and that is why organisations and individuals that have the wherewithal should partner government to bring adequate healthcare to our people,” he said.

Politics / Building A New Oyo State – A Perspective On Infrastructure by Oluwaseyi1234: 6:36pm On Nov 10, 2017
Infrastructural development is a major feature of a fast growing economy because the people, local and foreign investors need to see the visibility and feasibility of new and existing infrastructure so that, they can invest their money into businesses and partnerships that will herald development in the state.

On this premise, it is noteworthy to state that, the Oyo State Government has paid maximum attention to the construction of new roads, bridges, rehabilitation of old but dysfunctional roads and highways as well as resuscitation of moribund infrastructure and monuments across the state.

On records, a total of 334 roads and about seven bridges totalling about 590 kilometers have been constructed since the inception of the present administration. In addition, all entry roads into the major cities like Ibadan, Iseyin, Oyo, Ogbomoso and Saki have been dualized.

It is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that, one of the highlights of this administration is infrastructural development as roads are being built and maintained every point in time. At some point, critics had to ask that, is road the only reason why the Governor was elected by the Oyo State people?

The huge effort of the state government in the area of works and infrastructure cannot be over emphasized as it is now evident that, the robust land policy has started boosting infrastructural development in the state just as construction of new roads and bridges have started creating new jobs for the people, motivating investors to put down their finance for investment as well as encouraging sons and daughters of Oyo State in the diaspora to come back home to implement their business acumen.

As at press time, there is a 1236.5 kilometers cumulative stretch of road network undergoing either construction or rehabilitation across the state and by the time these roads are completed, it would have been re-established that, the restoration agenda of His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is not a slogan but a deliberate, planned and sustained effort aimed at bringing the dividends of democracy closer to the people.

Politics / Why Ppp In Oyo State? by Oluwaseyi1234: 1:10am On Oct 28, 2017
Why PPP in Oyo?

A Public –Private Partnership (PPP) is a cooperative arrangement between public and private sectors, typically of a long-term nature. The core essence of the agreement is usually to deliver more social infrastructure or corporate governance to the door steps of the people.

In other words, PPP is a governance mechanism which covers hundreds of different types of innovative long term contracts between government and the organized private sector with a wide range of risk allocations, funding arrangements and transparency requirements.

Actually, public administrators and political scientists usually view PPP as a policy brand and a useful tool for governments to achieve their objectives.

In Oyo State, the case is not different. The PPP template has brought a lot of socio-economic and infrastructural development to the State, especially in the agriculture, solid minerals, tourism, education, women affairs, infrastructure, health, commerce, trade and investment sectors of the Oyo State economy.

The impact of PPP in the state is so huge that, it is strategic and central to the creation of new businesses and opening up of top brands in Oyo State.

Oyo State now boasts of attracting some leading brands and businesses which were supposed to be operational in the state long before now. This geometric improvement in the creation of jobs and businesses has been impressive, such that there has been more job creation for our youths and also a new lease of life to the residents of the state.

All these positives makes it quite safe to assume that even more of these initiatives on the template of PPPs in Oyo State will make the people can access more quality basic amenities and experience wealth creation; and by so doing, make our state maintain a leading position in the comity of states in Nigeria
