Health / Low Sperm Count - Leading Cause Of Male Infertility by Olynkem: 12:32am On Dec 30, 2012
Low Sperm Count

Introduction

Low sperm count according to Mayo Clinic, means that the fluid (semen) you ejaculate during an orgasm contains fewer sperm than normal. A low sperm count is also called oligospermia (ol-ih-go-SPUR-me-uh). A complete absence of sperm is called azoospermia. Your sperm count is considered lower than normal if you have fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen. Having a low sperm count decreases the odds that one of your sperm will fertilize your partner's egg, resulting in pregnancy.

Symptoms of Low Sperm Count

The symptoms of low sperm counted listed below are not exhaustive.

the inability to conceive a child.
Problems with sexual function — for example, low sex drive or difficulty maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction)
Pain, swelling or a lump in the testicle area
Decreased facial or body hair or other signs of a chromosome or hormone abnormality

Health / Prostate Cancer - N01 Killer Disease Among Nigerian Men by Olynkem: 12:16am On Dec 30, 2012
"Taking care of your prostate gland is taking care of your manhood” – Dr. James Balch

No fewer than 14 men die daily from prostate cancer in Nigeria, according to Dr Emmanuel Ajibolajeje, a Consultant Urologist, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). He lamented that “Prostate cancer, the second commonest cancer in men, to kill 14 men in Nigeria every day is not acceptable because it can be prevented,”

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that about 80% men will eventually need treatment for prostate problems. No wonder prostate has been described as ‘a time-bomb ticking away in the plumbing of every male’.

Astonishing Ignorance

The alarming state affairs as regard prostate disorders notwithstanding, only a very small percentage of men know what the prostate gland is, available means of investigating prostate problem, various treatment options, and possible measures that can be taken to prevent prostate disorders. It is often said that prevention is better than cure.

What is prostate gland, where is it located in your body, what the functions, and many more. Read more about prostate cancer/enlargment at http://www.healthylivingman..com or join us on facebook at www.facebook.com/healthylivingman for more free healthy living tips for men.

Mistakes to Aviod if your are Trying to Get Pregnant:

Here's the first one...Did you know that something
as simple as using the wrong lubrication when you have
intercourse can spoil your chances of getting pregnant? I had
no idea! In fact, I thought a little lubrication would
actually help--were you thinking the same thing too?

Well, it turns out, most store-bought lubricants will
damage the sperm and so they are strictly forbidden! The
same goes for vaseline or KY jelly. If you are using this
type of lubrication, you could be reducing your chances of
conceiving by half!!!

Luckily, there are a couple of things you can use as a
substitute. One is eggwhites. Yup, as in real eggs!
You just leave one out for a while (they're much too cold,
straight from the fridge), and then you crack it open and
use the eggwhite (not the yolk) in place of lubrication.
Believe it or not, eggwhites are extremely sperm friendly!!

Lastly, one of the best ways to improve your chance of
getting pregnant is to increase your natural lubrication.
This can be achieved by introducing more pre-intimacy into
your "baby-making activities" which will increase your
arousal and therefore you will have more natural
lubrication to help the sperm to stay alive. Also, if a
man is more aroused, he will have a better ejaculation
which results in more sperm, which is a good thing!!

I hope you enjoyed this tip...stay tuned for another
lesson tomorrow which is all about "sperm-saving."

Pregnancy Tips:= Laughter Therapy
Ever heard the phrase, ―laughter is the best medicine?‖ Well it rings true for infertility, too. You may be shaking your head wondering, ―How am I going to find any reason to laugh during this time when I‘m so emotional and distraught?‖ In some studies, women exposed to laughter therapy during infertility treatments were able to get pregnant faster than women who did not participate. It doesn‘t seem to take much, either – just 10-15 minutes a day. So go ahead – rent your favorite I Love Lucy episode or go with your partner to a comedy club tonight – and give your odds at conception a boost.

Aviod This If you are trying to concieve

When you are trying to get pregnant, it is very important to be aware of what pain medication you may be taking, as some can increase the risk of miscarriage or prevent conception.

Basically, you should avoid all painkillers other than acetaminophen or Paracetamol (otherwise known as Tylenol), which have no harmful effects. But do avoid ibuprofin, aspirin, and others, which could affect the ability of the embryo to implant into the womb. The embryo may not implant at all (no pregnancy) or it can implant poorly, resulting in an early miscarriage.

The most dangerous time to be taking these medications is when you are approaching ovulation.

Tomatoes can Boost Fertility

Studies have already shown that lycopene is a valuable aid in warding off heart disease and numerous types of cancer, such as prostate, cervical, breast and lung.

What part exactly lycopene plays in fertility, remains a mystery... But in a few small studies, men who increased their lycopene intake, saw statistically significant improvements in their sperm.
When you take into account that higher levels of lycopene are associated with increased fertility, then it seems an important bit of information.

Guess what? While fresh tomatoes have many benefits to health, one fresh tomato contains only 3.7mg of lycopene. One cup of tomato soup, on the other hand, has approximately 25mg of lycopene It is also
more digestible in its "cooked" form. Other good sources of lycopene include pink grapefruit, apricots, papaya, watermelon and guava. The tomato, however, has the most!

Now of course, just adding tomato soup to your diet is not going to have a dramatic effect on fertility all by itself. But knowing that adding cooked tomatoes to your diet can have a positive effect on male fertility should make you aware that making many small changes, not only in diet but in lifestyle, can add up to a BIG BOOST in fertility.

Garnish your meals today with fresh tomatoes.

I guess you will find this useful.

Signs of Infertility: How to Know if You are Experiencing Infertility
by Dalene Barton, CH, Doula

The first and most obvious sign of infertility is the inability to achieve pregnancy within first year of trying to concieve. The couple may have no other signs or symptoms of infertility. They may not even have thought about it very much, but after some time come to the realization that they haven’t gotten pregnant yet.

What should you do if you suspect there may be something inhibiting pregnancy? What are the signs and symptoms of infertility? What are the reasons for infertility? What can I do to find out if I am experiencing infertility?

Infertility Symptoms
Some couples may not have obvious signs of infertility. While others know that they have been diagnosed with a fertility issue in the past. Approximately 90% of couples will achieve pregnancy within the first 12 months of unprotected intercourse. Most of the remaining 10% will go on to have children either naturally or through medical assistance such as IVF.

If you suspect you may be experiencing infertility, here are signs to look for:

Signs of Infertility in Women

Irregular menstrual cycles
• Absent menstruation (amenorrhea)
• Short (less than 21 days)
• Long (over 35 days)
• Heavy or long menstruation
• Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)
• Short menstruation time
• Very pale menstruation
• Clotty or very dark purple/black menstruation
• Mid-cycle bleeding

Hormonal Imbalance
Irregular menstrual cycles may be a sign of hormonal imbalance, or other more serious fertility issues. If any of the these hormones are not at the correct levels, the menstrual cycle may become irregular. Hormonal Imbalance may cause a variety of other health related issues that may affect quality of life. For example thinning hair, heart palpitations, low libido, depression, ect.
• Progesterone
• Estrogen
• Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
• Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
• Androgens for example DHEA, Testosterone
• Thyroid hormones
• Prolactin

Over the Age of 35
Women over 35 may experience a decrease in fertility. The average 30 year old woman has a 20% chance of getting pregnant during any one cycle, but by the age of 40 that chance decreases to only a 5% chance of naturally conceiving during any one cycle. If you are over 35 years of age and you have been trying for 6 months or more unsuccessfully, it is time to see a doctor.

Previous Fertility Related Diagnosis

• PCOS
• Uterine Fibroids
• Ovarian Cysts
• STD’s
• Recurrent Miscarriages (more than 3)
• Adenomyosis
• Blocked Fallopian Tubes
• Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

Get Pregnant Tips:- Get Plenty of Sun and Sleep

Sleep helps restore many parts of our bodies, including the reproductive system. When sleep suffers over the long run, it can impact your hormone balance. Long term sleep loss can disrupt the menstrual cycle, which can then cause a delay in the time it takes to get pregnant. Lack of sleep can even cause you to stop ovulating altogether. Additionally, daily light exposure has an influence on ovulation and reproductive hormones. Current research suggests that the hormones that trigger ovulation, and even the sperm maturation process, are somehow tied into the body's biological clock Since the same part of the brain that regulates sleep-wake hormones also stimulates daily pulses of reproductive hormones for men and women, scientists suspect some feedback between these systems.

When your body is exposed to sunlight, it also gets some much needed health benefits, such as an added dose of Vitamin D. Sunlight also helps improve your mood, which is essential when you‘re going through the process of trying to get pregnant. While sunlight is good for your health and contributes to a better reproductive system, you also want to make sure you don‘t overdo it and get too much sunlight. This can lead to sunburns, retinal damage, and skin cancer. The bottom line is this, get plenty of rest and a good dose of daily sunlight (approximately 1 hour) to keep your reproductive hormones in check.

I hope you will find this tip useful.

Will I Have a Problem Getting Pregnant?

Most girls, when growing up, don‘t consider whether or not they‘ll be able to have a baby – they just assume they will one day. Then when the time comes that they‘re actually planning it, they start to worry – even if there‘s been no sign of a problem with their fertility.

There are different levels of fertility. There are those who find themselves infer
tile after a year or more of trying to conceive. There‘s also primary infertility (infertility without a previous pregnancy) and secondary infertility (infertility after having already conceived a child), and sterility, which means you have no chance of conception. If you‘re wondering where you might be, you should know that 15-20% of couples in the United States alone encounter difficulties in getting pregnant. The causes range from minor issues like using a non-productive position during sex to a major reason, like one of the partners being sterile.

Most women are worried because they are simply uninformed. Plus, there are a lot of myths floating around on the net and offline that cause a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety.

Here are some of the many reasons why you and your partner may be experiencing trouble getting pregnant if it‘s been more than a year and you‘ve had no luck making a baby:

• Ovulation issues
• Ovarian cysts (PCOS)
• Sperm issues(eg low sperm count)
• Endometriosis
• Blocked fallopian tubes
• Fibroids
• Stress
• Weight gain

Of course this list isn‘t comprehensive, but it does include some of the more common issues that affect a couple‘s chance of conceiving. And unfortunately, many couples who can‘t conceive a baby after a year of trying, seem to have nothing medically wrong with either of them, and simply fall into the category of ―unexplained infertility‖, which is the medical term for ―we don‘t have any idea why you‘re not conceiving.‖ Which raises a very interesting question. If so many couples have ―unexplained infertility‖, which means there is no obvious medical reason why they can‘t conceive, doesn‘t it stand to reason that there is a lot more to conception than the doctors know about? And then the idea that both men and women can make a variety of personal changes to improve their own fertility really does make a heck of a lot of sense, don‘t you agree?

It is becoming increasingly evident that when your body is not in optimum health, or is overloaded with toxins, or is not given enough nutrients, the body's ability to reproduce can be dramatically effected.

Sometimes it may just take an alternative approach—a change in lifestyle or the use of alternative therapies for instance, to make conception possible. Conception is a miraculous and quite complex phenomenon—undoubtedly influenced by many subtle internal and external factors. It stands to reason that we all have the power to make changes within ourselves that can maximize our fertility and make the difference in our ability to conceive a baby.
