Are we watching a demise of a company before our eyes; how will Nigeria and other developing countries cope without BB, will the masses be able to afford the data bundles that other smartphones provide in Nigeria and other countries. As far as I am aware only BIS offers the N100 a day or N400 a week browsing. if RIM goes bust what alternative exists for majority of Nigerians, not just handsets but are there cheap data bundles out there? |

Can Nigeria or Indonesia and other essentially growing economies save RIM (blackberry). Capitalisation has dropped from $85 billion to $5 billion in less than 4 years. (Reuters) - Research In Motion's share price on Monday dropped to less than $10 on Nasdaq, a breach that technical analysts say could spur further declines, after an analyst warned that the BlackBerry maker's sales were dismal last month. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/06/04/us-rim-warning-shares-idUSBRE8530TP20120604 |

This is false report and a thorough misunderstanding of RIM's statement today. As usual, a mature, intelligent, well informed post by Texxapete (although you usually give me a hard time) The RIM recognise that their consumer market is actually in developing countries like Nigeria, Indonesia, etc and teenagers and young people in the more mature markets, this is because of their reduced data charges, as such they will probably be focusing on cheaper handsets rather than compete with the big boys like the iPhone or top end androids. Hence the popularity in Nigeria |
@RealMcCoy @Omafones, BB9700 and BB9000 are still available for brand new. I have brand new 9700 in my inventory that will be coming to Nigeria. I am a licensed reseller and have assess to over 29,000 phones sold by the company I purchase from. Sorry to wake you up, I realize the time difference, but the initial poster was asking about difference between Bold 9900 and Bold 9700 in his title, but in the body of the his message, he asked for difference between Bold 9000 and Bold 9700. I specifically said that neither Bold 9000 or Bold 9700 were available, as they had both been discontinued by RIM. However you erroneously argued that you had access to Bold 9000 & 9700 brand new within your stock over 29,000 units of BB, I believe including the discontinued models I think, I, not faithin9ja deserves the apology. Anyway you are welcome to come and join us in the Nigerian market. |
@Jiffizy Thanks for the support; Just to clarify Blackberry Bold 9900 also known as Bold 5, Bold Touch or even Dakota is N91,500 Blackberry Bold 9790 also known as Bold 6 (which is also Touchscreen) is N78,500 - slighter smaller screen than Bold 5 and the processor speed is 1000ghz as opposed to Bold 5 which has a processor speed of 1200ghz, otherwise they both have the same features. So yes, Bold 6 is cheaper than Bold 5. |
Poster is the poster asking about the difference between 9700 & 9900 or 9700 & 9000? I ask because most replies seem to be comparing the 9000 and 9700. But for the record; neither BB9000 (the original Bold) or BB9700 (Bold 2) are available new. They are now longer in production, you cannot get the BB9700 to buy brand new, only tokunbo or Nigerian used, you definately cannot get the Bold 9000 for new, the Tokunbo or Nigeria used cannot be newer than 3 years old, 3 years in life of a phone is a long time. Somebody did a detailed comparison of the 9900 & 9700, I don't need to add anything the analysis was spot on. the Blackberry that is comparable to BB 9900 (Bold 5) is the BB9790 (Bold 6) - bold 6 is the junior brother to Bold 5 even though Bold 6 is a slightly newer model. |
@blank @ Coogar, u obviously did not understand my post or I was not clear enough. He has almost no apps, just the usual bbm, facebook, protect. The only additional is chess and he does not use it anymore cos of the battery. I personally, adjusted the brightness, etc still no dice. Maybe the phone just has a small memory storage cos since the os 6 update, the browser keeps saying low on memory. The phone is shyte and I won't advise anyone to get it. Sorry to hear of the trouble your husband is having with his phone, I suspect as your husband bought the phone in the US, the phone is branded (ATT. T-Mobile or something similar) this is not bad it itself but our experience is 'branded' smartphones often have one problem or the other especially if they have to be unlocked. If you are in Lagos bring it to our showroom and we will re-install the operating system which in most cases will solve most problems. Battery Life The newer Blackberry's do not have the length of life as the old 8900's or even 9000, this is probably because they are working harder, getting a full 24 hour usage is problematic. It is important that when you intially get your smartphone, Blackberry or otherwise you give it a good charge before you start using it. Warranty At www.omafones.com we confidently say we give a 12 month warranty to anyone who buys a phone from us. In the first instance we will try to repair a phone if it is an obvious manufacturer fault, if this fails we will replace the phone. Best BB to buy At omafones we only sell brand new, unbranded phones with warranty. we recommend the Bold 9790 (Bold 6) touchscreen, OS 7 and 1000ghz processor at N78,500 we also have the Blackberry Bold 9900 (bold 5) touchscreen, but 1200ghz at N91,500 for cheaper models try the Curve range Blackberry Curve 9350 (Curve 4) at N52,000 Blackberry Curve 9360 (Curve 5 or Curve Touch) this is touchscreen only phone at N53,000 you can reach us on 08033068085 01 844 4812 130 Awolowo Rd, Ikoyi, Lagos info@omafones.com www.omafones.com |

@larrymasco Bold 4 (official name Blackberry Bold 9780) is N62k is the upgrade to Bold 2 (Bold 9700) works with operation system 6, has only keyboard, does not have touchscreen, camera, flash, gps and many other features. Blackberry Touch ( Official name Blackberry Torch 9800) this is N68k, this has touchscreen and keyboard, it is a slide, has all the features of Bold 4. Blackberry Bold Touch (official name Blackberry Bold 9900) this is N92k, this has touchscreen and keyboard, the screen is bigger than Bold 4 but smaller than Blackberry Torch 9800, has faster processor than the other phones above (1200) and comes with operation system 7. A better phone. Newer models are; Blackberry Torch 2 (Blackberry torch 9810) is the same as Torch 1, but has faster processor and operating system 7 (N80k) Blackberry Bold 9790 this is like Blackberry Bold 9900 but the screen size is a bit smaller like Bold 4, it too has touchscreen and keyboard entry, it uses operating system 7 but the processor speed is 1000 as opposed to 1200. I suggest you go for Blackberry over any Android phone in Nigeria as the blackberry is cheaper to run than android/ iPhone because data charges are capped with most GSM providers charging N3k a month whilst other phones the Data Charges can vary from N1500 per month to over N6k depending on your usage and which bundle you chose. A good blackberry will do all things you ever want to do with your smartphone especially for a first time user. By the way we at www.omafones.com also sell in addition to Blackberry's androids such as Galaxy Sii, HTC phones and Motorola. |
