Sure forming a nation is good thing. But here are the few things you need to consider. First of all you talked about one language , one culture. In such a case, a dominant group will want to impose its way of doing things. Can you avert war? I dont think so and this will open you to attack. You certainly cannot impose a culture either as the identities are strong already. This is a problem that we face in Africa, specially west Africa where we are obliged to choose a foreign language and even foreign/ european culture as consensus just because we are obsessed with this idea of having a common thing.
Now imagine you have your nation. You wont be able to compete on your own. I mentioned Nigeria, Ethiopia and DRC because they are the ones with the size ( not just current numbers but also potential) and land mass to draw the resources needed to be able to compete with the rest of the world. Look at Germany, France, Spain, all of these advanced, industrialized states are trying to build a stronger union to protect their interests. This is what we need to move toward to, not micro nations. The case of the economic partnership agreement is a good one. Here is a trade deal that even Cameroonian entrepreneurs have denounced as dangerous for the country. The EU coerced Ecowas members and other states like Cameroon to sign it. The deal wants to remove tariffs for goods coming from the EU. This is a great disadvantage for young entrepreneurs trying to compete. And guess what, only Nigeria didnt sign it because they could afford to say NO to the EU, the rest had no choice otherwise the tariffs of their agricultural products would have increased. So you can see the danger looming. I am telling you, even those Europeans want to be united to compete with China, a stronger India and NAFTA.

Land mass and population are not what make a state viable except if you want to reduce viability to internal market and even if that's the case you are analogy is still not convincing as the countries you listed have all different land mass and different population numbers . Is that possible without war and subjugating smaller entities? I don't know , is that possible without dictatorship? You are getting wrong when you say if it were not for the white men you would not have met them. But that is not the subject here.
Fulanis are conservative, you cant blame them for that. If they want to retain their culture, I dont see any problem with it. Afterall the nations that we will build whether continental or with the current states will surely be multiethnic. And if we want to retain our African culture, not cooy french or english, then we need to let people be who they are. What should be expected of everyone is respect or civic values that we share. You cant blame people for being conservative.
With that said, where do you take it that fulanis are violent in nature?

Considering that no African state can preserve its interests in the 21 st century by working alone , going toward nationhood within the current states is suicide. Nigeria, Ethiopia and DRC if they get their act together are the few viable ones in sub saharan Africa due to land and population mass. Even Europeans are moving toward stronger integration.

And the 90s crisis as far as Cameroon was concerned was due to state funds mismanagement, unpaid debts, low to no industrialization, which caused the IMF and world bank to step in and vandalize our country, then the currency was devaluated and the rest is history, people were earning peanuts money, lost everything in their bank accounts. And lets not forget that he organized a coup to come back in power.

Same problems in other countries too, IMF structural adjustment programs, we are all familiar with them.

I am not saying he was an angel , far from it but from what I read in his time he did build infrastructures and improved the livelihood of Cameroonians unlike many of his colleagues like Mubutu who not only killed great Pan Africanist like Lumumbu but also plundered the country and left it broke.
As for the 90s, it was the most messed up period since independence for many countries. It was due to the fall of the soviets and the rise of the new order with America as the superpower. A lot of things changed then.

See this is where part of the problem is my brother. When fulanis are attacked, their sisters and mothers molested, their property stolen, the media in Nigeria rarely reports it. They close their eyes and forget it. Now when fulanis retaliate, they run off reporting with inflated numbers. Otherwise why do you still this problem doesnt occur in Cameroon as much as it does in Nigeria? Did you know in the mid belt they had fulanis killed and eaten ?

I have to disagree. Lamairu Network is an organization that heps many Bororo'en settle on Cameroon. They are doing what they can with few means at their disposal. In Guinea for example you dont have this issue. The vast majority of fulbe have settled. Heck, no days cattle herding have been replacing by trade. But this is the case because we control a whole region called Futa Djallon and built grazing areas to avoid the farmers. Even in Texas, America, they got grazing lands.

Oh yes we do when we first embrace Islam. It was during the Tekrur kingdom that located in Northern Senegal. Althought not all Fulanis became Muslims at the time.

My point is, you cant look at herdsmen and draw conclusions on fulanis. We are quite diverse from political leaders( why I mentioned Ahidjo) to business leaders to herdsmen.
Ahidjo did some good work in Cameroon despite anything one might say about him.

Zone fulbe publishes in Fulfule, French and English. You will find some fulbe responding in Arabic and it is quite logical because unlike us, they went to Arab schools. If it depended on me, fulanis all of regions should standardize the language and use it for all communication instead of writting in foreign languages. You wont see fulanis speaking a european language or Arabic when gathered, ever.

Come on now, you wont tell fulanis what it is like to live in the 21 st century. We have had this conversation before when I told you it requires political will to solve this farmers/ herdsmen problem. We have it throughout the continent. Grazing areas need to be developped and ranches should be built to embrace people to settle.
In Cameroon, many proeminent fulanis have industries and are influent members of the state. If they take this problem seriously it can be solved. But Africans generally like to ask people to change instead of take appropriate measures to solve problems.

Mali is a very strange case. There are even Songhai that carry the name "Toure". I don't get Mali. They carry Cisse as well. At least in Gambia's case where people like Juldeh (first name Fulani and Julde in the Fulani language means prayer) but his name is Camara which is completely Mande.

The Soninke along with the Fulanis are among the first ethnic groups in west Africa to embrace Islam so it is not surprising that some of them by living among fulbe became part of us. Cisse, Toure are Soninke, a sub group of Mande people.

Lol sucking to Arabs. We have never submitted to them. Yes we embraced Islam but that doesnt mean one is a wannabe Arab. As a matter of fact, our books in 17 and 18th century were written in Pulaar/ fulfude. Recently in Paris, the Timbuktu manuscrits enjoyed an exposition, fulfulde was the onyl African language to have books written in it. If we were Arab wannabe, we would have chosen to write in Arabic.

Fulaman I think one of the things that is hindering the growth of fula cultures and language as it suppose to are caused by fula people themselves..is like fula culture is not so welcoming of foreigners and they are not exact mechanism to categorize who is a pulaar and who is not. In most open cultures aa far as you speak practice the culture you are seen as one... but in fula culture when a person tries to be one he wont be accepted rather he would term hal pulareen etc.. thats what discourages those who are pure pular from our mother's side... most fulani I met instead of them to appreciate me speaking the language they wont..they would try to explain to me how they are more pular than me....never mind the English,, by the way what is goddo am?

"goddo am" is like saying "my person or my people.
Fulani society is very conservative and fulbe are suspicious in nature so that might explain why they would automatically trust someone coming them as a Pullo. The more you live with them though, the more you become one of them. There are people in Mali, Guinea and even Nigeria that carry Mande last names but are fully Fulanis. Amadou Toumani Toure, the former president of Mali is Fulani though his last name is typically carried by Mande people. I think the current leader of Tabital Pulaagu is a Cisse, a surname carried by Mande too.

As she said language is usually the barrier. If you start speaking Pulaar to some forumists, it might not go well. For some reason, speaking Pulaar can be seen as nationalistic or "ethnocentric".

You like Senegal very much from what I see. It is an honour to see my country and culture appreciated greatly on this forum.
Oh yeah Habib and Amadou Thiam father is Mabousso Thiam Fatim Seye; I know them they are great people from Dagana. After being a minister Amadou was also Cote d'Ivoire Ambassador in Morocco. They are all brillant in that family; Habib Thiam also has a son named Mabousso Thiam who is a great economist. It is sad that in Senegal caste question sometimes limit individuals.
It's not only to feel more integrated, although it's part of it, it is also because they really are Ivorians; they're from Senegal but were born in CV and feel Ivorians; they present themselves as such.
By the way majority of Thiam are Wolof.

From I know Thiam as mostly Toucouleur, they have a long standing rivalry with the Tall. If you read Amkoulel l'Enfant Peul from Ampathe, you will see how their rivalry was intense. The rivalry between Tidjani Caam( Thiam) and Aguibou Tall( son of Eldhaj Umar) which eventually led to Tidjani being emprisoned by the French is discussed at length. It will show how a problem about a Mosque in the Tall family destroyed by the Thiams in Futa Toro took a nasty turn. They couldnt let it go even after conquering lands in Mali, being far away from home and overtaken by the French.
I havent read Senghor to be honest. I liked his pragmatism as a statemen though I disagree with him jailing Mamadou Dia.
My favorite Senegalese politicians for the independence days are Valdiodio Ndiaye and Mamadou Dia. I share their vision of a Senegalese economy being independent of France. But I guess the clerics had too much to lose.
I love Senegal. It is the second country of every Pullo.
