Atiku is high over his head.Of course the igbos will tell him that they will vote for him to his face but they will never vote for him. This is the same thing that the SW has done.No assemblies in the south will vote for him.
No. Igbo, unlike Yoruba, are not traitors that say one thing and do another. The Enugu House members have spoken their mind. There is nothing wrong with voting Atiku or Jonathan in a true democratic setting. Igbo are republicans who decide matters for themselves. We are no ngbatis that follow the crowd, SHEEPISHLY.

Well, Igbo are not Yoruba with one-track minds. They will all run to the ACN for now, until Obj convinces them again, like he did in 2003, to vote for PDP. Talk of zombie SWners with no minds of their own.

Nice try, but i suspect no-one is going to buy that.
The topic says 'Nigerian discovers new Solar System' not ' Nigerian discovers new component of Solar System'.

Perhaps in addition to repeating JSS2, you may want to invest in some good English textbooks since you apparently struggle with simple written English.
How can a village rat who does not know that 'I' (see boldened part of your response as quoted above) must be in large cap be talking about the English language skill of another? Only in your naija. And what the freaking hell is no-one? Shouldn't it simply be written as no one? Confused aboki abi Yoruba man.

Vice chancellor averts religious crisis at Ibadan university

By Jide Jegede

Print print Email email Share Share

But for a quick intervention of Olufemi Bamiro, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, the academic community would probably have been engulfed in religious violence from the end of last week.

A 400-level law student of the institution, Seun Bunmi Adegunsoye, was said to have almost provoked tension, as she intruded on a Jumat service going on at a mosque within the university community, shouting ‘accept Jesus’.

Ms Adegunsoye, a Christian evangelical and a student of the Law faculty, nearly disrupted the ongoing service led by the institution’s chief imam, Abdulrahman Oloyede, as she continued screaming, “Except you accept Christ in your life, you are not safe. All of you here, no matter the number of the congregation, accept Jesus Christ. Allah is not God; Jesus is Lord”.

According to an eyewitness, her conduct attracted the fury of some male Muslims, who waited around the premises of the mosque almost an hour after the service, to deal with her for the “unwarranted provocation”.

Mr Bamiro, however, saved the day. He came to the mosque immediately he was contacted, to apologise to the Muslim students, describing the incident as “very surprising and unfortunate”.

He also pledged a full investigation into the incident and promised to prevent future occurrences.

Though effectively curbed, the incident is already threatening the peace of the institution and that of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, since it occurred last Friday.

Its effect resonated at the institution’s Obafemi Awolowo hall of residence on Sunday, as Muslim students gathered in front of the hall in the morning to engage their Christian fellow students in a verbal war. The mounting tension arising from the encounter was only quelled by security operatives drafted to the scene.

Already, the matter is dominating discussions among notable Islamic leaders and Hausa community leaders in the city, who considered it strange, particularly as it came on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

Planning a protest

A source also informed us that Muslim students of the institution are planning to stage a protest to the office of the vice chancellor and that of the dean of the faculty of law.

We further learnt that they would be demanding a stoppage to the examinations of the law faculty, scheduled to start today, until Ms Adegunsoye is brought to justice.

Addressing journalists at the weekend, Zakariyah Giwa, President of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), University of Ibadan branch, alleged that the incident was a ploy to “perpetuate religious crisis in Nigeria, starting from the campus of the University of Ibadan”, describing it as unfortunate.

He said Ms Adegunsoye’s action was a clear effrontery, alleging that, for the first time in history, she dressed like a Muslim to detract a jumat service in the month of Ramadan at the time the Chief Imam was leading the prayer.

“To our dismay and to the surprise of the whole Muslim community, we learnt that the girl has been released to her parents, the following day, by the university authority, without any reference to the Muslim community, due to the purported intervention of two senior officials of the university. The terrorist is let loose despite the heinous crime she had committed,” he said.

Adeboye meets with Bode George in Kirikiri prisons

Success Nwogu

The former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, on Tuesday conferred with the General Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos.

George, who looked trim and well fed, was dressed in a white kaftan with brown sandals. He held a private discussion with Adeboye for about three minutes during the cleric's visit to the penitentiary.

Journalists were barred from taking photographs of both men during the meeting, which took place after Adeboye had ministered to inmates of the prison at a Christmas carol service.

George also held a brief discussion with the Archbishop of Lagos Archdiocese of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Rev. Sunday Ajayi, who accompanied Adeboye to the ministration.

An Ikeja High Court presided over by Justice Joseph Oyewole had on October 26, 2009 sentenced George, who is a former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, and five others to two years imprisonment without an option of fine for alleged abuse of office and award of about N100bn contracts without due process.

During the service, Adeboye said he would pass the prisoners' complaints to President Goodluck Jonathan, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, and the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Inumidun Akande.

He cautioned Nigerians against indulging in criminal acts.

Adeboye also inaugurated a renovated chapel and a 22KVA generator for the prison and donated some items to the prisoners.

Responding to some prisoners' requests to be pardoned, the cleric said he hoped that many of them would be released after his interaction with the government. He expressed hope that many of them could still be useful to the society when released.

Adeboye said, "I have my reasons for being keenly interested in what goes on here. I will take your case up again.

"I will take it to the President. I will take it to the governor of Lagos State. I will take it to the Chief Judge. I have done it before.

"When I did it the first time, they released hundreds. I am believing God they will do it again. So keep praying along with me. I will be your voice out there.

"Pray that the Almighty God will add weight to whatever I may say, so that the next time I come here, many of you will not be here. Out there, you will be very useful unto God."

One of the inmates, Pastor Henry Okishie, said it was sad that some of them had not been released contrary to their expectations of being set free during the nation's 50th independence anniversary.

He also said it was regrettable that many months after Fashola promised to provide succour to them, the governor was yet to fulfil his pledge.

Okishie, who is also a pastor at the Liberty Chapel, called on the government to set some of the inmates free, noting that many of them had spent many years in prison. He said some of the inmates had been in prison for over 27 years.

Addressing Adeboye, Okishie said, "We celebrated 50 years of independence and not one prisoner was set free. I know that in 2007, the current governor of Lagos State represented the former governor here in camp.

"In June or July, he sent forms to us that we should fill for people to be released during the 50th independence anniversary. Till today, not one inmate has been released.

"Now sir, you have spoken well; they will hear you. Whatever you tell them, they will give you an answer. The President of this nation, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, will listen to you. The governor of Lagos State will listen to you."

"Please help us talk to them. There are so many people here who have repented and want to go home and re-unite with their families. A portion of the Bible talks about the consequences of not setting people free during jubilee."

The Officer in charge of the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Mr. Noel Ailewon, urged the government to collaborate with non-governmental and religious organisations and increase funding to prisons.

He stated that the decongestion of prisons would be achieved through speedy justice delivery, adding that many of the prisoners were desirous of being set free, especially those wrongly incarcerated.

"It is very natural for them to want to leave here. If you have been incarcerated for a long time, you want to have your freedom, particularly those who were wrongly incarcerated here. Definitely, they will feel a bit aggrieved and want to be freed," he said.

Yoruba community alleges marginalisation in Enugu
By Emmanuel Nzomiwu, Reporter, Enugu

Yoruba community in Enugu State has cried out over what it described as total neglect and marginalisation by the present Enugu State government led by Sullivan Chime.

The aggrieved members of Yoruba community, who made their feelings public through their leader, Mr. Ade Johnson Adeyelu, regretted that the group which was formed in 1990 and registered under then Anambra State Government had never before now experienced marginalisation in the state.

Adeyelu said that his people voted for state government during the last general election and wondered why Chime’s government has since inception not cared for their welfare.

His words: “We have passed through series of military governors and military administrators down the line to the civilian governors.

“Over these years, we have enjoyed some sort of patronage from the government, patronage in the sense that some Yorubas then were given the opportunity to be members of the Muslim Welfare Board. As a result of that they were given one or two slots to participate in Hajj Operations in Medina. From that 1990, down to when Chimaroke became governor, we still enjoyed the slots that were given to the Yoruba community in Enugu.

“There is no doubt we are facing a lot of problems in this state. We have not benefited anything from the present administration in Enugu State. We as a community we have participated in almost all the activities of the state. The last straw that broke the camel’s back was the present Hajj operation, which we recommended people to participate. But up till now, there is no single Yoruba man that belongs to the Yoruba community that was given any slot to participate in the Hajj operation.”

Adeyelu recalled that since governor Chime came on board, he had written about five letters seeking for audience with him, to let his government know the problems of the Yoruba community but unfortunately none of the letters was replied.

He also expressed disappointment that Chime does not care and had not asked leaders of non-indigenes in his state the problems their various groups are facing in the state, just as he regretted that the immediate past administration cancelled the allocation of land given to the Yoruba community to build its secretariat by the former military governor of the state, Navy Captain Mike Agbaje.

The secretariat, he said, would have served as a centre where the Yoruba cultural heritage would have been sold to the people, adding that all the promises of re-allocation of another land to the community made by the past administration, did not yield fruitful dividend until its tenure expired in 2007.

Besides, Adeyelu advised all members of the Yoruba community in the state to remain calm, law abiding and loyal not only to their host state but to the Federal Government as there is still hope for a better tomorrow for them.

PoliticsMark To Aregbesola-you Are An Area Boy by omongbatic(op): 3:34am On Dec 29, 2010
Stop behaving like an area boy, Mark tells Aregbesola
News Dec 29, 2010

By Ben Agande
President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has charged the governor of Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to stop behaving like an Area Boy and provide purposeful leadership for his people.

Reacting to allegations credited to the governor who alleged that some eminent Nigerians, including the President of the Senate, were raising funds to destabilise the state, Senator Mark urged the state governor to imbibe the culture of respect for elders and decorum, adding that he should also control his tongue.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the President of the Senate, Mr. Paul Mumeh, Senator Mark emphasised that the governor should tender ‘unreserved apology’ to the Senate President or ‘we would be left with no option than to seek legal redress’.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Office of the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has been drawn to spurious allegation by the governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, alleging plot by some eminent Nigerians to raise fund to destabilise his state.

“We ordinarily should not elevate such idle talk with a response but for the unabating enquiries from friends, associates and the general public on the allegation.

“Aregbesola was widely reported in the media that prominent Nigerians, including Vice President Namadi Sambo and President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, were involved in the plot to raise N1billion to destabilise his administration.

“We frown on this falsehood and unwarranted attack on the person and office of the President of the Senate. We demand unreserved apology from Aregbesola or we would be left with no option than to seek legal redress.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the President of the Senate is a statesman who believes in the rule of law and commitment to development that will improve the lives of Nigerians.

“It is, therefore, unthinkable and an affront for Aregbesola to link the President of the Senate to issues that do not engender progress or development.

“The President of the Senate is a builder, a lawmaker and an adherent to democratic ideals. He believes in the right of every one to express his or her views but in doing so, it should not impugn or insult the sensibilities of others.”

“We do not want to be dragged into the politics of Osun state. We can only advise Aregbesola that what the people of Osun state desires is purposeful leadership, development that affects them positively and make the society a better place and not mudslinging.

“The Osun State governor should also be reminded that resort to abuse or disparaging leaders in the name of politics would not earn him laurels.

“Aregbesola must imbibe the culture of respect for elders, decorum and learn to control his tongue. He should behave like a state governor and not as an Area boy.”
