...Beg president to act before Ondo APC sinks The Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the House of Representatives has written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, informing him of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s alleged disdain for his yet-to-be buried late predecessor and principal, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. The open letter to Tinubu was signed by five out the six federal lawmakers namely: Hon. Adesida Abiodun Cornelius (Akure North/South), Hon. Timehin Adelegbe (Owo/Ose), Hon. Festus Adefiranye Ayodele (Ileoluji-Okeigbo/Odigbo), Hon. Odimayo Okunjimi John (Okitipupa/Irele), and Hon Adegboyega Adefarati (Akoko south West/South East). Addressing journalists in Abuja on the intent of the letter, leader of the caucus, Hon. Adesida called on the President to intervene by calling the new Ondo State governor to order before the crisis he was allegedly stoking in the APC would cost the party electoral loss in forthcoming 2024 governorship poll in the State. They said since his swearing-in as governor, Aiyedatiwa has made a series of decisions that indicated his animosity towards the late Akeredolu and his lack of concern for the party’s growth in the state. The lawmakers told the president that the governor has been associating with arch political enemies of his late predecessor and even cosying up to the opposition party. Adesida said: “The Deputy Governor appointed by Mr. Aiyedatiwa is a well-known political adversary of the late Governor. Despite hailing from Owo, they never saw eye to eye during the late Governor’s lifetime. Olajide Adelami caused a great deal of trouble for the late Akeredolu during his bid for re-election in 2020 to which you were committed. “Furthermore, it has become common knowledge in the state that Mr. Aiyedatiwa has aligned himself with every disgruntled and established political enemy of the late Akeredolu. As an example, the appointment of Barrister Kola Olawoye, a suspended APC member and former Attorney General of the state, as Aiyedatiwa’s campaign coordinator in Owo has been widely condemned by loyal party members, particularly in Owo.” He also said recent events have revealed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s apparent eagerness to erase the legacy of the late Akeredolu and has been assuming credit for the successes and achievements of the deceased. According to lawmakers, the announcement of the payment of N35,000 palliative allowance for civil servants and the settlement of January 2017 salary arrears, which were previously approved by the late Governor Akeredolu, were erroneously presented as early actions taken by Governor Aiyedatiwa. Adesida further said Governor Aiyedatiwa proceeded to dissolve the entire local government structures, including chairmen, councillors, and all government aides and appointees, adding that the calculated move aimed to erase the footprints of his late boss, and has left the party in a state of disarray. “Mr. President, the Governor has created a significant divide and caused deep discord among party members. Currently, the party’s state Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, is being marginalised and sidelined. To make matters worse, Governor Aiyedatiwa has resorted to sending his proxies to warn the Chairman and pressure him into resigning. It is a bad situation, sir. “There is a growing divide within our party; and it is occasioned by the seed of enmity sown by Governor Akeredolu. Those who were once loyal to Akeredolu have been sidelined, while individuals from the opposition who alligned with Mr. Aiyedatiwa in the fight against the late Akeredolu, demanding that he relinquished power to Aiyedatiwa when he was sick, now hold significant positions within the government and party. “The primary concern is clear: we must prevent Ondo State from falling into the hands of the opposition due to internal conflicts. As the party grapples with this tumultuous period, the urgent need for decisive and unifying leadership becomes more evident than ever. “The decision made by Ayedatiwa to dissolve the Ondo State Executive Council has raised concerns and is being criticised as ill-conceived, imprudent, and misguided on multiple fronts. One of the main criticisms is the perceived rush behind the decision. Many questioned why the Governor couldn’t wait until the final burial of AKEREDOLU before taking such a drastic step. “It is our fervent hope that Ondo, the Sunshine state, will be saved from further turmoil, and that the APC’s influence in the state will not wane. As representatives of the good people of Ondo State in the National Assembly, we pray that your Presidency will be guided by divine wisdom, resulting in remarkable development, peace, prosperity and renewed hope for all Nigerians,” the letter reads further. https://www.rovingreportersng.com/2024/02/16/crisis-looms-as-ondo-lawmakers-report-aiyedatiwa-to-tinubu/

...Gov. Aiyedatiwa Reserves The Power To Appoint Who He Wants —spokesman The events that transpired in the second half of last year in Ondo State have undoubtedly left many people perplexed. The true intentions behind the actions disguised as “the interest of the people” displayed by Governor Aiyedatiwa and his people are beginning to become apparent to the well-meaning individuals of Ondo State. Those who created a facade and escalated the issues around the illness of the late former Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, and exerted pressure on him until his passing are now being rewarded for their “role” in their evil struggle. Mr. Kayode Ajulo, who vehemently advocated for the prioritisation of the state’s interest, has just been appointed as a Commissioner by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The professed love they claimed to have for the state and its people during Akeredolu’s health challenges was nothing more than a sham. They understood the task allegedly assigned to them by Aiyedatiwa, and it was executed with precision. Now that the innocent man has passed away and found rest, Ajulo and his cohorts are being rewarded for their involvement The clamour surrounding “Doctrine of Necessity,” “Resume or Resign,” and the various protests that took place played a significant role in the premature demise of our beloved Governor. Prostate cancer alone could not have claimed Akeredolu’s life so swiftly. These voices disarmed him of the resilience needed to fight cancer and ultimately death. It is a tragic tale, but it is the reality we face. Aiyedatiwa allegedly organised, supervised, and coordinated all these attacks on his late principal and benefactor. Interestingly, on multiple occasions during that period, Aiyedatiwa would deny any knowledge of the activities carried out by Ajulo, Gbenga Omole, Akeredolu ON, and others. Today, time has revealed the truth. The Deputy Governor appointed by Aiyedatiwa is a well-known political adversary of the late Akeredolu. In 2020, when Akeredolu sought re-election, Olajide Adelami allegedly unleashed terror in Owo, despite it is being Governor Akeredolu’s hometown. Adelami not only contested against the late Governor but also caused him considerable trouble. Yet, Aiyedatiwa saw fit to appoint him as the Deputy Governor. By the way, he had promised Gbenga Ale the deputy governorship slot to reward him for his betrayal but rescinded the offer at the last minute. Ale is still nursing his pain in shock. Another nominee, Omowumi Isaac, was dismissed by the late Governor Akeredolu due to her alleged High-handedness. She served as the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement. She was appointed and subsequently dismissed by Akeredolu. The staff in her office collectively wrote to the public, highlighting her incompetence and unprofessionalism. Coupled with certificate-related issues, Governor Akeredolu relieved her of her duties. Yet, she now finds herself as a commissioner nominee under Aiyedatiwa’s administration. Alabi Johnson propagated numerous falsehoods and innuendos against Governor Akeredolu and his loyalists. Johnson Alabi stooped so low as to hurl derogatory names at the Governor, employ abusive language, and disseminate misinformation to sow panic and fear in the state. Aiyedatiwa denied any association with Alabi Johnson at the time. However, today he holds the position of Special Adviser on Energy. What knowledge does this man possess about energy? Is this what our state has been reduced to? When Rasaq Obe wrote a letter alleging a forged signature, people believed he was being outspoken and courageous. Isn’t it clear now that it was all part of a script to discredit the late Akeredolu and incite people against his loyalists, who were shielding the late Governor from Aiyedatiwa’s alleged treachery? So now that Aiyedatiwa is Governor, everything is suddenly fine in Ondo State? Are Ajulo, Omole, Alabi, and others now content? What did Akeredolu do to Aiyedatiwa that even in death, he continues to wage such a bitter fight against him? What a life! Signed: Yemi Adegboyega General Secretary, Ondo Solidarity Front (OSF) GOV. AIYEDATIWA RESERVES THE POWER TO APPOINT WHO HE WANTS —Spokesman Reacting to the Group’s outburst, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said, “The Governor reserves the right to appoint whoever he wants to work with into his cabinet. “This sponsored junk is coming from the same set of people who complained when the cabinet was dissolved and said he should have retained the exco. “Now that he has reappointed members of the same dissolved Exco, they are also complaining. There are no enemies of Akeredolu in the appointments made by the Governor and those who have made themselves professional complainants should find a better job to do. “Mr. Governor has a duty to run this State and he’s doing just that,” his spokesman said. https://sunshinetruthondo.com.ng/2024/02/02/ondo-aiyedatiwa-and-the-reward-of-callousness-group/

The Ondo Elites Assembly (OEA) has accused the government of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Ondo of running a deceptive and insincere administration. The group also lamented that Aiyedatiwa is attempting to diminish the legacies and achievements of his late boss, Rotimi Akeredolu, through lies and propaganda. In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Chief Yemi Oladiran, the group said m Aiyedatiwa was employing mindless propaganda to incite the people of the state against the deceased Akeredolu, who was his benefactor. OEA was responding to reports that Aiyedatiwa has approved the payment of January 2017 salary arrears and the alleged “hidden money” that is now being utilised by his administration. The group said: ”There is no hidden money anywhere. The Akeredolu administration planted the seed that is now ripe for harvest. Aiyedatiwa, who is now reaping the benefits, is too deceptive to give credit to his late boss. It is the height of wickedness. “The truth is that more funds have been allocated to the state by the Federal Government than before. For instance, the Federal Government released N7 billion intended to clear part of the outstanding dues to contractors. However, the then acting governor, now the governor, Aiyedatiwa, halted the payments midway through the process. The money remains in the state coffers. “Another N7 billion was also released by the Federal Government in December while Mr. Aiyedatiwa held the position of acting governor. This was followed by an additional 9 billion paid in this new year. Advertisement “These releases were approved by the Federal Government months ago. “Pensioners’ palliative has been paid monthly since inception, and the pensioners can attest to this. It was approved, along with other palliatives, by the late former governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and the funds were made available as well. “Rufus Giwa Polytechnic,Owo, like other institutions, receives its monthly subvention from the state government whenever salaries are being paid. Also, a monthly release of N200 million for gratuity has been in place since the Akeredolu administration began. “The judgment debt owed to the local governments was approved by the late former governor and the funds were released for payment early December, 2023. “It is also important to note that the previous administration had been setting aside funds each month to address the outstanding January 2017 salary arrears. The Labour Leaders can testify that it was agreed at their last meeting held in December that the outstanding January 2017 will be paid this month. Equally, the payment of outstanding salaries owed to former political office holders was approved, part of which was already disbursed in November, 2023. “Please be aware that the salary was approved and payment was made with their alleged “forged signature”. People should not be deceived by the blatant lies being spread around. The so-called hidden money is simply the funds that entered the state treasury just recently. “This deceptive approach by Mr. Aiyedatiwa is both irresponsible and mindless. Moreover, he is the first intolerant person to hold the position of Governor in Ondo State. Opposition views are met with threats and abusive language. “Those responsible for managing his image are inept at operating within a democratic framework. They continue to conceal their inadequacies by displaying unfounded arrogance to the people of Ondo State. They have consistently referred to the people of the state as ‘senseless,’ ‘useless,’ ‘brainless,’ and other derogatory terms. However, this time shall pass.” https://independent.ng/youre-running-deceptive-govt-hoodwinking-ondo-people-elites-tell-aiyedatiwa/ |

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly summoned the newly sworn-in Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa to Lagos State for a meeting, government sources familiar with the development told SaharaReporters on Thursday. SaharaReporters learnt that the president’s invitation came after eyebrows were raised over the manner Aiyedatiwa embarked on “celebration and jubilation” at his swearing-in on Wednesday. His predecessor and former Ondo Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, died on Wednesday in a hospital in Germany, paving the way for Aiyedatiwa to be sworn into office. “The entire tenor of the swearing-in was very tasteless. How can you be saying “aku ori ire eni” (congratulations to us for today’s success) when it’s someone’s death that elevated you? He has already goofed on Day one. He was all over shouting and hailing and jubilating,” a top source told SaharaReporters. “Could he not have kept it solemn for a few hours and done the rejoicing elsewhere? President Tinubu has already summoned him to Lagos over his swearing-in jubilation after Akeredolu's death,” another source said. One of the sources also accused Aiyedatiwa, as Acting Governor, of spraying cash when he led other members of the State Executive Council to the burial of the late Chief Williams Abegunde Fagbegi, father of former Secretary to Ondo State Government, Hon Ifedayo Abegunde (Abena), in Akure. "He sprayed money at the burial of Abena's father," the source said, adding that Aiyedatiwa should be warned to be mindful of how he manages power. SaharaReporters on Wednesday reported that the swearing-in of Aiyedatiwa followed the death of Akeredolu on Wednesday at the age of 67. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by the Chief Judge of Ondo, Justice Olusegun Odusola, who was sworn in by Akeredolu as the 12th Chief Judge of the state in February 2023. https://saharareporters.com/2023/12/28/president-tinubu-summons-new-ondo-governor-aiyedatiwa-lagos-after-his-swearing

Ondo, the Sunshine State, has recently been the center of attention. It is no longer news that the vibrant and courageous governor of the state, our respected Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, is currently indisposed. Despite the immunity his office enjoys, he is susceptible to falling ill, as no one is a superhuman. Akeredolu is a governor who has left an indelible mark on the history of Ondo State. His impacts and accomplishments extend beyond the boundaries of the state. He is known for his strong voice and courageous stance. He stood up for the Yoruba race during the killing spree by herdsmen. Akeredolu challenged the audacity of some northerners who attempted to retain power after the eight-year rule of Muhammadu Buhari. He was a leading advocate for a southern presidency. As a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Aketi, as he is fondly called, is known for his advocacy of true federalism, power devolution, and equality in politics. He is an honest politician, a rarity in the corridors of power. He is known for his straightforwardness and truthfulness, yet he remains loyal. This legal luminary turned politician from Owo has chosen to follow in the footsteps of the late sage, Pa. Obafemi Awolowo, and his kinsman, Late Adekunle Ajasin. Since June 2023, the government of the state has been embroiled in a protracted crisis. It appears that the Deputy Governor is in a hurry to step into his boss's shoes. While Akeredolu was recuperating in Germany, the embattled Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was scheming to take over as the Governor of the state. It is no longer hidden that Aiyedatiwa was behind the series of media attacks on Akeredolu. A sinister plot had already been orchestrated. Aiyedatiwa and his team had already made plans for the post-Akeredolu era. Despite not having access to the governor, they were making serious plans for his funeral. It is disheartening to wish ill upon a man who has shown you kindness. These plans were frustrated by Akeredolu's return to Nigeria. Those who attended the Ibadan meeting a day after Akeredolu's return confirmed the disbelief and disappointment written all over Aiyedatiwa's face. He was surprised that the governor made it back home. What followed was an aggressive display of shattered expectations. Just yesterday, Lucky's anointed Deputy Governorship hopeful, Rasaq Obe, raised an alarm about alleged forgery of the Governor's signatures. He wrote a letter addressed to the Deputy Governor to protest the alleged forgery and asked him to investigate. It is too convenient for Obe to suddenly discover a forged signature. Moreover, there is credible information that Obe received approvals for N150m to organize DevelopOndo and another N26m to renovate his office between June and now. It is a sheer show of disrespect and unbridled pride for this commissioner to have taken the governor's signature for forensic analysis. The truth is that Obe knows what he is doing. They know that no one is forging the governor's signature. We all know that Akeredolu is sick and still recuperating, which may result in irregular signatures. What baffles us is why Obe wrote a protest letter to the Deputy Governor. Is it the Deputy Governor's signature that is allegedly forged? Why did he not write to the governor? Why did he not address the letter to the owner of the forged signature? Who is Obe to have taken the Governor's signature for a forensic audit? Many questions are begging for answers. It is evident that the noise about the forged signature is part of a grand plan by Aiyedatiwa and his associates to force the governor to transfer power to him. Aiyedatiwa has disregarded the rules of engagement and has gone all out. He detests the governor for not dying already. He has spent a considerable amount on a needless battle and has set his eyes on the state treasury to recover from his financial mess. So, the next time you read anything about a forged signature, it is all part of a game plan. It is meant to deceive the people of the state. The plan is to portray the governor as incapacitated and incite a move to forcefully take power from Akeredolu. Aiyedatiwa is behind it all. That is why Obe wrote that letter to the Deputy Governor and not Akeredolu. It is truly unfortunate. Aiyedatiwa, Obe, and their cohorts are kicking a man who is already down. That is wicked. High Chief Ogundele Johnson, Ikare-Akoko.

Majority of members of the Ondo State executive council have resisted a fresh move by the embattled Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to undermine Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. It was leant that Aiyedatiwa had lobbied some Exco members, urging them to join him in his quest to forcefully take power from the Governor. Before leaving for Abuja last week, it was gathered that the deputy Governor held a meeting at his house in Alagbaka, where it was decided to bombard the media with the claims of Akeredolu’s purported incapacitation. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a member of the state executive council disclosed that they were offered money and promised juicy ministries in exchange for their support for the deputy governor. “The deputy governor has approached a number of us, claiming that the governor refuses to step aside, and thus he intends to forcefully assume power. He enticed us with financial incentives and promised us juicy ministries. “One issue that has come to light is that many of us have discovered the deputy governor’s lack of sincerity. He promised six of us Ministry of finance. Also, two commissioners and one special adviser have been promised commissioner in the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. “Through our discussions and idea sharing, we have realised that the deputy governor is a dangerous politician who disregards the well-being of others. His sole focus is on gaining power through force. The truth is that the governor is actively working. Our files are being processed, and the governor frequently calls us to inquire about our request before approval is granted. “We are bewildered as to why the deputy governor is treating his boss and benefactor in this manner. In fact, we have decided to reaffirm our support for the governor. Within few hours, we will release an official statement. “We will also call for the deputy governor to step down from the government. He has sowed discord among us. He was the one who initially informed us of the governor’s alleged death in Germany. He assured us that the governor would not return. But now that the governor is back and working, why does he insist on forcefully taking power? “This recent move by the deputy governor has opened our eyes. We have seen his true character. It is evident that the only way peace can be restored within the executive council is if the deputy governor resigns. He wanted us to come together and sign a document declaring the governor incapacitated and unfit for office, despite the fact that many of us have recently spoken with the governor. If you see how the governor scrutinises our files, you would know that Aketi is back. He does not approve any funds without consulting us and asking pertinent questions. “As of now, all members of the state executive council have resolved to stand united. We acknowledge that we may have made mistakes in the past, but we were misled by the deputy governor. He lied to us and made us believe that our governor had passed away in Germany. He even accused certain exco members who are close to the governor of concealing the news of his demise from the state. However, we have discovered that these were all falsehoods. We will not succumb to these lies again. Only two exco members are currently aligned with the deputy governor.” https://citizennewsng.com/2023/11/ondo-exco-members-oppose-aiyedatiwas-fresh-move-against-akeredolu-citizen-newsng/

The Ondo State High Court, sitting in Akure, on Tuesday, struck out an application by the state deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, praying the court to restrain the state Chief Judge from setting up an investigative panel ordered by the House of Assembly. Justice O. Akintan- Osadebay struck out the application brought by the deputy governor, asking the High Court to interpret section 188 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, if the State Chief Judge has power to extend seven days granted by the law to set up an investigative panel to probe the Assembly’s allegations against the Deputy Governor. However, at the resumed hearing of the case, the Counsel to the Deputy Governor, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, moved to withdraw the application while the Counsel to the State House of Assembly, Barr. Femi Emodamori, did not oppose the withdrawal. The presiding judge, Justice Osadebay, subsequently struck out the application. It will be recalled that the State High Court had last week fined Aiyedatiwa a sum of N200,000 to be paid to the respondents (the State House of Assembly, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and others) due to absence of the deputy governor’s legal team in the court. Also, the Ondo State High Court presided over by Justice D.I. Kolawole, on Monday, did not rule on a similar application brought by the lawyer to the Deputy Governor, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, praying the court to interpret section 188 of the 1999 constitution as amended, if the State Chief Judge has power to extend seven days granted by the law to set up an investigative panel to probe the Assembly’s allegations against the Deputy Governor. Justice Kolawole did not rule on the application after the Counsel to the State House of Assembly, Barr. Femi Emodamori, vehemently opposed it, argued that since Aiyedatiwa had sued the State Chief Judge “for himself and all the Judges of Ondo State High Court” as the 5th Defendant in his Counterclaim, all the High Court Judges are parties to the Counterclaim and none of them, including Justice D.I Kolawole, can adjudicate the case, because it is a cardinal rule of justice that no one can be a Judge in his own case. Ruling on the application, Justice Kolawole directed all the parties to maintain the peace and thereafter adjourned the case till November 22, 2023 to enable parties file relevant processes and documents. https://tribuneonlineng.com/impeachment-court-strikes-out-aiyedatiwas-suit-against-ondo-cj/

Ondo 2024: Aiyedatiwa Woos PDP For Guber Ticket As APC National Leadership Recommends His Resignation There are indications that the embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has opened talk with the Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2024 governorship election on the Party’s platform. This is as sources at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) indicated that the party’s National Leadership has recommended Aiyedatiwa’s resignation following the discovery of substantial evidence against him. Aiyedatiwa was said to have been irked by the APC National Leadership’s stance, which recommended his resignation as a solution to the political impasse in the state. A source revealed:”The National Chairman has conducted an investigation into Aiyedatiwa’s conduct. Some Governors have also shared information about the deputy governor’s actions while the governor was away. The National Chairman is furious about what he has uncovered. Currently, the party’s leadership, many of whom are former Governors, appears to be sympathetic towards Governor Akeredolu. “The deputy governor’s actions appeared to have been less than discreet. He has voice notes and recorded calls circulating widely. People were recording his words and sending them to Governor Akeredolu in Germany. Wishing death upon someone is one thing, but wishing your boss and benefactor death is an extreme stance.” The source also mentioned that Aiyedatiwa has instructed his close associates to prepare for a potential move to the PDP, expressing dissatisfaction with the recommendation from the APC National Leadership. “Just like his predecessor, the deputy governor is determined to fight to the end. He is planning to join the PDP while insisting on retaining his position as deputy governor. Despite numerous appeals for him to step down for the sake of peace in the state, he remains unyielding.” The source further revealed that most of the commissioners who were previously aligned with Aiyedatiwa have declined to follow him into the PDP. “Several commissioners and some Special Advisers who were previously aligned with our camp have chosen not to join Aiyedatiwa’s move to the PDP. We are still in discussions with them. At the moment, we do not have any House of Assembly members or executive council members willing to join us. However, we are optimistic that some executive council members from Ese-Odo, Ifedore, and a few other local government areas may agree to join soon.” It was also learnt that Aiyedatiwa ordered the removal of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s official portrait from his office, but senior civil servants intervened to prevent this action. Aiyedatiwa’s threats to confront the government, even in the presence of his staff and aides, indicate a growing political divide within the state. https://omonaijablog.com.ng/2023/10/26/ondo-2024-aiyedatiwa-woos-pdp-for-guber-ticket-as-apc-national-leadership-recommends-his-resignation/

The protracted crisis in Ondo State surrounding the impeachment of Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has deepened following renewed efforts by the deputy governor to remove his boss, Rotimi Akeredolu on health ground. This development contradicted the objectives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) reconciliation committee, which was set-up by the National chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje. The committee had engaged with APC members in the State House of Assembly and instructed them to cease the impeachment process of the deputy governor. The party expressed its commitment to exploring political solutions to address the impasse in the state and restore peace. In response, the House of Assembly expressed support for the reconciliation committee’s intervention and requested that the deputy governor withdraw the court cases initiated against the House as a gesture of his willingness to embrace peace. The House of Assembly stated in a statement by its spokesperson, Hon. Olatunji Oshati Emmanuel, “The House hopes that the Deputy-Governor will take immediate steps to withdraw the multiple court cases he filed regarding the same impeachment, allowing stakeholders to freely discuss settlement proposals and preventing actions or comments on a matter that is still sub judice.” This move by the House of Assembly faced criticism from some political observers who argued that the impeachment process was not purely a party affair. Some also contended that given the allegations against the deputy governor concerning financial misappropriation and embezzlement, it was essential for him to address these charges out of respect for the taxpayers of the state. However, in a surprising turn of events, Aiyedatiwa, who had relocated to Abuja, returned to Akure, the state capital. He released a brief statement expressing appreciation to the people of the state for their support but conspicuously omitted the Governor’s name, fueling suspicion of a looming showdown. His statement read, “Let me thank you all for standing by me and for standing for fairness, equity, and justice. Your names will go down in the political history of Ondo State. What you may not know is that we are not only extinguishing lies, falsehood, and witch-hunting in politics, but we are also making history for ourselves. This note is to express my deep appreciation for your support and to inform you that I am in Akure, in my office. Warmest and kindest regards.” Shortly after the statement was released and circulated, it received criticism and backlash. The deputy governor’s media handlers subsequently withdrew the statement from circulation, deleting it from social media and other platforms. Aiyedatiwa’s statement, along with noticeable changes in his appearance, particularly his now clean-shaven face, signaled his reluctance to reconcile with the governor. Aiyedatiwa had maintained a white beard, similar to his boss, Governor Akeredolu. When the governor picked Aiyedatiwa as his running mate in 2020, many considered Akeredolu to have brought in a younger brother due to their white-beards look. In recent days, Akure, the state capital, has witnessed prolonged disputes as various groups mobilised to bring the governor into the public spotlight. Some well-known groups handling media and publicity for the deputy governor have filed a lawsuit against the governor, requesting him to disclose his health status. This group has been actively defending Aiyedatiwa since the beginning of the impeachment saga. Another group, known as Ondo Liberation Movement, has called on the President to intervene in the state’s political impasse, claiming that Akeredolu is incapacitated and inaccessible. The accused his family and associates of denying him access to medical care. The group suggested that Akeredolu should hand over the government to Lucky Aiyedatiwa and seek medical treatment abroad. These claims were contradicted by a video from the Southwest governors’ visit to Governor Akeredolu in Ibadan, where he appeared to be in good health and high spirits. The video and images showed that the governor had even gained weight since his return to the country in September. Aiyedatiwa has been fingered as the mastermind behind the protests, press conferences, and court cases initiated against the governor by these groups. Leaders of the Sunshine Liberation Movement, namely Taiwo Gbamila, Biyi Poroye, and Alabi Johnson, are known allies of the deputy governor and have intensified their public attacks on the governor, spreading stories of his incapacitation. Sources suggest that in addition to his refusal to withdraw the court cases, the deputy governor has demonstrated his unwillingness to allow peace to prevail in the state, indicating his readiness to confront Akeredolu. This recent development appeared to have undermined the efforts of the APC reconciliation committee. https://nigeriannewsnose.com.ng/2023/10/25/impeachment-why-apc-reconciliation-committee-failed-in-ondo/

These are not the best of times in Ondo state. They are not the worst of times, either. Nothing in the governance crisis in the state in the last few months comes remotely close to the 1983 political crisis being invoked by some commentators. In that crisis, the state was totally paralysed. Some people were killed and their property destroyed. Others ran away from the state or went into hiding, while the majority held their breath. I was as much a witness of the 1983 crisis as I am of the present governance crisis in the state.https://thenationonlineng.net/aketi-lucky-and-the-future-of-ondo-state/

A group, Ondo Masses Solidarity Movement (MSM) has warned the embattled deputy governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and one Biyi Poroye, against causing a crisis in the state. The group has also accused the deputy governor and Poroye of allegedly mobilising cult groups and members of the suspended National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to incite violence in the state. In a statement signed by its coordinator, Chief Ogunyemi Jeremiah, the MSM expressed concerns about the deputy governor's and Poroye's plan to involve cultists and suspended NURTW members in their scheduled protest and press conference, which is set to take place tomorrow. The group has deemed this move as dangerous. "We have received information about the planned activities of Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Biyi Poroye. We are deeply concerned about the participation of cultists and suspended NURTW members in the planned protest and press conference sponsored by the deputy governor and led by Poroye," stated Chief Ogunyemi Jeremiah. The group also called on all security agencies in the state to take action and prevent the deputy governor and his associates from potentially instigating unrest in the state. While recognising the right to hold a press conference or protest, the MSM emphasises that it is entirely unacceptable to unleash cultists and NURTW members on the innocent people of the state. "We issue this warning based on the information available to us. We have credible intelligence that Poroye is sparing no effort to incite conflict and disrupt peace in the state," the group concluded

Alleged Lobbying Efforts by Ondo Deputy Governor Exposed Amid Impeachment Proceedings The alleged attempt by the embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to influence the ongoing impeachment proceedings has been exposed. Sources within the APC national secretariat in Abuja revealed that Aiyedatiwa has been actively engaged in financial activities in an attempt to halt his impeachment process. An anonymous source disclosed that Aiyedatiwa has reached out to a close associate of the national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, with an alleged offer of a $100,000 bribe in exchange for intervention to prevent his impeachment. Having spent nearly two weeks in Abuja, Aiyedatiwa has refused to respond to allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by the House of Assembly. In addition to the reported $100,000 intended for the national chairman, Aiyedatiwa is said to have expended substantial sums to bribe some party elders in Abuja to avert his impeachment. The actions of the Deputy Governor have drawn strong criticism from the people of the state, who believed his reluctance to address the allegations is a disregard for the people.

Impeachment: Crisis Hits Ondo Deputy Governor's Camp A fresh crisis is brewing within the embattled deputy governor's camp in Ondo State, as allegations of stolen mobilization funds by his loyalists have surfaced. It has come to light that Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is fuming at one Biyi Poroye for consistently collecting substantial sums of money for tasks that he has failed to accomplish. Poroye had reportedly arranged legal representation for the deputy governor and organized protesters from various parts of the state to converge in Akure a few weeks ago. However, it has been revealed that Poroye was inflating the cost of mobilization for the deputy governor and receiving kickbacks from lawyers and other key organizers of protests and tasks. Over the weekend, Aiyedatiwa confronted Poroye after becoming aware of the exploitation. A close source to Poroye, who spoke confidentially to our correspondent, disclosed: "Lucky is extremely displeased with Poroye's actions. He believes that Poroye is siphoning funds from him. The deputy governor appears to have learned that Poroye has been exaggerating the cost of every task. "Among us, Poroye had mentioned that he anticipated the deputy governor's eventual impeachment. He viewed this as an opportunity to profit from the situation. Poroye has been actively recruiting individuals to join Lucky's camp, connecting them with the deputy governor, and then directing him to provide them with funds. "He recognizes that such funds would pass through him, allowing him to take a cut before disbursing the money to the intended recipients. This pattern has persisted since Lucky initiated his efforts to remove his boss. "Aiyedatiwa has uncovered Poroye's financial gains at his expense, leaving him deeply resentful. Poroye had openly declared that Lucky is like a 'Bureau de Change' with plenty of dollars to be extracted from him before his potential impeachment."

AIYEDATIWA AND THE 350 MILLION ILAJE/ESE-ODO INTERVENTION FUND ALLEGATION Having perused the notice of allegation of gross misconduct against Ondo Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa by the Ondo State House of Assembly, it is shocking to have observed that, Mr. Governor, Arakunrin Odunayo Oluwarotimi Akeredolu actually approved Three Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (350,000,000,000) meant for Ilaje/Ese-Odo as State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA is an umbrella body whose raison d’etre is to coordinate the activities of relevant agencies in preventing and managing environmental disasters, either by providing relief materials or financial assistance to victims of various disasters within Ondo State. Looking through the lens of Gov. Oluwarotimi Odunayo Oluwarotimi administration and having an Ilaje/Ese-Odo man as the Deputy Governor, it would be disagreeable to say that the Government of Ondo State has left Ilaje/Ese-Odo behind despite the oil exploration and exploitation that has caused rampaging sea incursion and other environmental hazards in the axis. Unknowingly, the lust for money, degree of desperation, insincere political ambition, lust for power and the passion for self aggrandizement of the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has made the people of Ilaje/Ese-Odo suffered beyond imagination. In addendum, allegation number twelve, thirteen and fourteen as cited in the notice of gross misconduct against Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and presented to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oladiji Olamide by Ondo Assembly lawmakers, Gov. Akeredolu approved; Firstly, One Hundred Million Naira (100,000,000.00) meant for the State Emergency Management Agency Vide vote head 011100800100 subhead 05060002010101 dated, 2nd March, 2022 to cushion the effects of Sea Incursion and other rampaging environmental disasters. Secondly, Governor Akeredolu approved One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (150,000,000,000.00) meant for the State Emergency Management Agency subhead 060001110102 dated 2nd March, 2022 for Ilaje/Ese-Odo flood control and to provide succour to the victims of environmental disasters. Thirdly, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa flagrantly approved the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (100,000,000.00) as capital vote of the State Emergency Management Agency vide Head 011100800100, subhead 060001110102 without due process. It is dissatisfactory to have learnt that the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa only shared scanty and low-cost items like; cutlasses, hoes, detergents, pillows, foams etc to some wards in Ilaje/Ese-Odo which didn’t worth Fifty Million Naira (50,000,000.00) out of the Three Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (350,000,000.00) approved. The raging question is how did he spend the approved Three Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (350,000,000.00) meant for Ilaje/Ese-Odo State Emergency Management Agency in cushioning the effects of environmental disasters in the axis? Conclusively, we urge Ondo Assembly members to investigate properly the whooping funds approved to cushion the effect of sea incursion and other environmental disasters in Ilaje/Ese-Odo. ALLEGED WIFE BATTERY: AIYEDATIWA’S WIFE’S SILENCE CONFIRMS ALLEGATION AS TRUE — WOMAN ANALYST An Akure based Teacher and Public Affairs Analyst, Mrs Toyin Adegbenro had said the maintained silence of Mrs Seun Aiyedatiwa, wife of the embattled deputy governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa is an indication that the wife battery story against the deputy governor could be true. She asked the Deputy Governor to urgently clear himself of the allegation of wife battery leveled against him by the State House of Assembly. The House of Assembly in its Notice to the deputy Governor under Allegation Nine stated that:”That Honourable Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, being the holder of the office of Deputy Governor of Ondo State on or about the 4 of June, 2023 assaulted and influenced bodily harm on your spouse Mrs. Oluwaseun Ayedatiwa contrary to section 20(1) of the Violence against persons (prohibition) Law of Ondo State, 2020 which amount ot gross misconduct. A group, Society for Women Empowerment (SWE) had accused the deputy governor of assaulting his wife. National Coordinator of the group, Mrs Damilola Charles accused the deputy governor of repeatedly beating his wife in the presence of his staff and friends. Charles said “wife beating is a civil rights problem of enormous magnitude, the campaign on violence against women must be applicable to elected officers in the country. Speaking on a Radio program on Wednesday, Mrs Adegbenro said she was worried as a woman over the wife battery allegations against the deputy Governor. Speaking on the allegations, She said:”As a woman too, i saw one there about himself and his wife, beating up his wife. That to me is a No No. “If i am a wife of a man, a man who has risen to this level of deputy Governor and such allegations are being brought, levelled against him, if these allegations are wrong, no matter where i am on the face of the earth, i will be back to show my face to let the whole world know that what you have said about this man who is my husband is totally wrong. “I will be back to stand by him, to keep the people talking about it quiet, to show that this is an unfounded rumour but where is she today? As it is always said that silence sometimes mean consent. So when she has stayed away for this long, she hasn't been personally around to refute it, then i will want to assume that those rumours are just mere rumours, they are actually truth that are being said. “So it is one of the allegations against him that he needs to clear too because as much as we see men out there that are doing it and we condemn it, as a number two man in the state, he's supposed to lay examples to other people. “It is totally wrong of him to beat up his wife. It is something even the woman fold will not even stand for. You remember the Oba of Akure that was deposed of his crown the other time, what cost him of the throne was something of this nature, beating up his wife. “So if the House of Assembly has that as one of the allegations then he has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that these things they are talking about is probably fallacious, that there is nothing of such.” https://www.rovingreportersng.com/2023/09/27/wife-battery-aiyedatiwas-wifes-silence-confirms-allegation-analyst/?fbclid=IwAR0VyRKgaE-m8-Eo96jSD3LZOOq9HeTMed3dExD1mTqAvnV1NSmU4UU91_E

The Ondo Professionals For Good Governance Initiatives (OPGGI) has urged the deputy governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to appear before the House of Assembly and clear his name of the gross misconduct charge instead of using the judiciary to stall the impeachment process. Nine lawmakers of the Assembly on Wednesday, September 21, submitted a petition accusing Aiyedatiwa of gross misconduct. One of the allegations made against the deputy governor was the seeking of approval of the sum of N300m to purchase a bulletproof vehicle. In a statement issued to journalists in Akure and signed by the president of the group, Pastor Adeyemi Kayode, the Ondo Professionals said the lawmakers’ actions were under public scrutiny. Pastor Adeyemi appealed to the House of Assembly to serve as an impartial arbitrator, ensuring the preservation of the state’s and the people’s interests during the impeachment proceedings. The statement encouraged Aiyedatiwa not to petition the law court to halt his impeachment process but to allow the democratic process to run. According to the statement, “We have credible information that the Deputy Governor is seeking legal intervention to halt his impeachment process. As vigilant observers, we urge the Deputy Governor to refrain from such an action. “Although, we suspect that his impeachment may be controversial, we are equally interested in the allegations the lawmakers have raised against him. “Contrary to other states where impeachment proceedings are conducted in secrecy and unconstitutionally, we have faith in the House of Assembly’s decision to adhere to due process in this impeachment. This will only bolster our democratic process and establish a beneficial precedent. “We fervently hope that Mr. Aiyedatiwa will choose the path of integrity, exemplifying the spirit of a true Ondo son by submitting to investigation and allowing the world’s greatest court, the court of public opinion, to objectively assess the situation. “As stakeholders, we are dedicated to ensuring no one is unjustly persecuted. We acknowledge that the Deputy Governor is yet to be impeached and has only been served an allegation letter. We urge him to present his defense and reveal to the world the truth behind this drama.” https://thenationonlineng.net/impeachment-clear-your-name-instead-of-going-to-court-ondo-professionals-tell-aiyedatiwa/ |

Fresh facts emerged yesterday in respect of why Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, terminated his medical leave in Germany to return to the country. Though LEADERSHIP gathered that Akeredolu was certified fit to return home by his doctors in Germany, plans by some political gladiators in the state to use the Ondo State House of Assembly to declare him medically unfit to continue to function as the chief executive of the state informed his early departure to Nigeria. LEADERSHIP learnt that those prompting then acting governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to succeed his ailing boss have perfected plans to impeach Akeredolu and instal him. LEADERSHIP learnt that the state’s House of Assembly was being put under pressure to ease out the ailing governor from power. Although Akeredolu transmitted power to his deputy in line with the law, it was learnt that sustained intrigues to commence impeachment moves against him on the ground that he was medically incapacitated neccesitated his early return to the country. The embattled governor returned to the country on Thursday after three-month medical vacation in Germany. He left the country on June 7. He has been holding consultative meetings with relevant stakeholders from the state in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, since his return. Reliable sources in government circles in the state told LEADERSHIP that family members and political associates prevailed on him to return home apparently to ward off impeachment plans. Family members and associates of Akeredolu have openly accused Aiyedatiwa and his associates of plotting to remove his boss from office. Aiyedatiwa was accused of being disloyal to his boss, especially during his travails. Already, LEADERSHIP further learnt that the jostle for control of government and reports of the nocturnal plans to remove Akeredolu had pitched him against his deputy. It was learnt that Akeredolu’s return had unsettled the camp of his deputy reportedly said to be plotting to install him as substantive governor was caught off guard upon the return of Akeredolu on Thursday. Some cabinet members, who have pitched tent with Aiyedatiwa in anticipation that Akeredolu would not return to office, are now gripped by fears of the possibility of losing their jobs. One of our sources said the cold war between Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa became evident following the poor reception accorded the deputy governor when he visited his boss in Ibadan on Friday. The embattled deputy governor was only allowed to attend the meeting the governor held with members of the cabinet and House of Assembly. Findings by LEADERSHIP revealed that Aiyedatiwa was excused from the meetings his boss held with members of the National Assembly from the state, chairmen of boards and parastatals as well as women and youth groups. Investigations by this paper revealed that the deputy governor was allowed into the cabinet meeting since he was a member of the forum while he was admitted into the meeting with the lawmakers, ostensibly to clear the doubts that plans were being hatched to impeach him. However, our source pointed out that Aiyedatiwa was being isolated since his boss regained power on Thursday. Cabinet members, who hitherto jostled for his recognition during his interim leadership, were said to have deserted him. One of the sources who craved anonymity said, “The governor has to return home hurriedly on Thursday when he was faced with the possibility of his being impeached by the state’s House of Assembly. His family members and political associates mounted pressures on him to return home in the first instance even if he would return to Germany at a later date. “The way the handlers of the deputy governor were going, Governor would have been eased out on the ground that he is medically incapacitated to continue to perform the duties of office for which he was elected. The House of Assembly was being pounded to do the needful to impeach him (Akeredolu) and direct the state’s chief judge to immediately swear in the deputy governor as substantive governor. “But the sudden and unexpected arrival of the governor on Thurday has truncated the plans. The deputy governor’s camp was jolted by the arrival of His Excellency”. Another reliable source within government circle disclosed that the deputy governor was avoided by cabinet members and other top appointees throughout the period they were in Ibadan on Friday Painting the picture of how the deputy government was isolated before he left Ibadan on Friday, he said, “He (Aiyedatiwa) moved from one table to another trying to ease down the pressure as people were hesitant to associate and discuss with him. “During the governor’s separate meetings with stakeholders, the deputy was outside loitering around. Even when the wife of the governor came in to greet people, she avoided him. “Curiously, more than 70 per cent of members had already pledged loyalty to him, while the rumours of the governor’s incapacitation raged. “He had initiated a regular weekly meeting with loyal cabinet members, who also recruited influential party leaders to wage the war against the pro-Akeredolu men in government. “One of the high-points of the meeting of the deputy governor’s group was to engage APC leaders in Abuja and pressurise the state Assembly to invoke doctrine of necessity by declaring Akeredolu unfit.” Despite these revelations, the governor, due to his large heart, has resolved not to dissolve the cabinet or initiate any move to impeach his deputy, the source, who also pleaded that his name should not be mentioned in print, added. Aiyedatiwa and his press secretary, Kenneth Odusola, ignored frantic calls to their cell phones to get their reaction to the report. Odusola, who later returned the call, barely allowed our correspondent to pull his enquiries through when he angrily responded, “There is nothing like that. I don’t know who is even talking.” He thereafter hung the phone. He ignored subsequent calls. Similarly, the state’s commissioner for Information, Mrs Bamidele Olateju, declined to comment on the story. Olateju frustrated desperate efforts by our correspondent, just as he ignored calls and messages aimed at securing her reaction. |
