PoliticsNigerian Flying Labs Writes Ondo Govt On How To Tackle Flood by OndoTrends(op):
Concerned over the menace of flooding caused majorly by the ocean surge currently ravaging some parts of the southern senatorial district of the state, a renowned Non-profit group, Nigerian Flying Labs, South West Hubs, has advised the Ondo State Government on how to tackle the disaster, mostly through deployment of technologies and development of early warning system.

The organization, who had, in partnership with the state government, undergone a flood assessment tour of the flood ravaging areas of the state, urged the state government to conduct a comprehensive disaster risk vulnerability assessment along the coastal corridor and riverine areas of the state that will involve extensive mapping and aerial data acquisition.

Nigerian Flying Labs, in a statement signed by her Director of Drone Services and Partnerships, Mr. Babajide Akeredolu, advised the state government to see to the procurement of long-range, high endurance drones that can cover vast land areas in a single flight for mapping and surveying along the coastal corridor and riverine areas of the State, adding that the drones will facilitate the production of detailed topographic maps and Digital Elevation Models of all the coastal settlements.

The Public Interest group with branches in most part of the world empowering the younger generation and impacting the society through the technologies, mostly robotics, also suggested that government should conduct an enumeration of all affected properties ravaged by ocean surge and flooding thus far to inform prioritization of government intervention with regards to resettlement and compensation.

The organization said she is ready to partner the state government to develop an early warning system for disaster risk vulnerability reduction to prevent future occurrences of disaster and predict disaster for the residents living in coastal and riverine settlements of the state.

Explaining how the organization had recently partnered the state government to curb flooding in the riverine areas of the state, Nigerian Flying Labs said “the need to generate evidence based assessment data on disaster damage extent, has informed the role of geospatial data and technical infrastructure in disaster assessment, prediction and prevention and the Flying Labs Nigeria, South West Hub, has provided aerial survey to enhance the efforts of the teams commissioned by the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to assess the level of flood damage in Igbokoda and Ayetoro, Ilaje LGA.

“With a team of experts from Orbital Solutions Global Services Limited and Yuavi Technologies, we conducted a flood assessment of the areas using drone technology to produce evidence-based aerial assessment that included video and aerial orthophoto of the extent of damage to property in parts of the selected locations.

“We also helped the Government to make an informed intervention in the affected areas and drive disaster vulnerability risk assessment activities in the coastal and riverine areas of Ondo State to prevent collateral damage from flood or ocean encroachment,” the group said.

PoliticsOndo State Govt Partners With German Firm To Build $1.1billion Medical City by OndoTrends(op): 5:55pm On Oct 24, 2019
As part of its commitment to improve the health sector, facilitate modern healthcare in Ondo State and end medical tourism abroad , the administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Germany-based health institution, Medicus International, to build a USD1.1billion Sunshine medical City in the state.

The Mou was signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, while the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Medicus International, Frank Spriewald, signed on behalf of the company at the Ondo State Governor's Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday, October 24, 2019.

Speaking at the event, Governor Akeredolu said he was more than convinced that Medicus International has good intention to develop the medical infrastructure in the state.

He said: "I am more than convinced that Medicus has good intention. As I told them when they came, coincidentally about few weeks ago, I was in Germany myself and I saw their structure.

"When I was in Berlin, I was talking to another medical organisation to bring their facility to Ondo State. I was negotiating with them not knowing that someone else was already waiting for this.

"No doubt, we are interested in this. We have made efforts. We are already working on how to secure a land very close to the airport. It is an interesting thing.

"We are prepared to cooperate and we know that this sort of thing is to be done as a joint venture. The interest of Ondo State is there. We are putting land. The joint venture itself will come up."

Arakunrin Akeredolu also announced that the state government has set up a team led by the Special Adviser on Health to work with the Medicus International.

Earlier, the facilitator for Medicus International, Chief Oludare Bello, said the time for the execution of the project is thirty six months and development will be completed in forty eight months.

According to him, the hospital will deal with all facets of healthcare, adding that the nearness to the airport became imperative because the hospital will have its own helicopter that will transverse other parts of the state for medical purposes.

Chief Bello explained that there will be other facilities in the medical city such as conference Center, Cinema, teaching hospital and nursing school.

He said: "The hospital is a city on its own. The design is premised on the fact that there will be green in the whole hospital. That is to make the patients see the ambience of the hospital when they lean over the window to have a view.

"It will be one of its kind in Nigeria. Over 50% of the doctors are already trained in Germany. The doctors that will be employed here will also be trained in Germany.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye, said Medicus International is charged with the responsibility of looking for fund for the project, adding that the State government is only investing 100 hectares of land and with other routine approvals.

He said the MoU is coming after serial of engagements to have a memorandum signed between the state government and the organization.

PoliticsStates’ IGR Hits N691 Billion As Osun, Ondo, Others Recorded Biggest Growth by OndoTrends(op): 3:46pm On Oct 11, 2019
The latest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) report released by the National Bureau of Statistics showed that all states in Nigeria generated the total sum of N691.11 billion between January and June 2019.

According to the Bureau’s report, the IGR generated by the 36 states and FCT rose by 94.2 billion (15.7%) when compared to the N596.91 billion IGR generated in half 2018.

The report also showed that thirty-one (31) states and the FCT recorded growth in IGR while five (5) states recorded a decline in IGR at the end of H1 2019.

The Breakdown: In half-year 2019, details of the report showed that across the 36 states, Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos State, generated the biggest IGR of N205.16 billion. This means Lagos IGR constituted 30% of the IGR generated across states in half-year 2019.

River State ranks the second with the biggest IGR of N75.9 billion
Other states among the top 10 states with the biggest IGR include FCT (N38.5 billion), Delta (N36.3 billion), Ogun (N29.5 billion), Kaduna (N22.4 billion), Akwa Ibom (N20.4 billion), Ondo (N19 billion), Kano (N18.5 billion) and Cross River (N16.7 billion).
Meanwhile, Gombe, Yobe and Taraba states recorded the lowest IGR of N2.08 billion, N2.2 billion and N3.27 billion.

IGR Growth: Meanwhile, while Lagos is top in terms of the amount of IGR generated in half-year 2019, other states recorded the highest growth recorded in terms of IGR generated between half-year 2018 and half year 2019.

Further analysis showed that Zamafara State recorded the biggest growth in the total IGR in half-year 2019. Specifically, Zamafara generated N2.65 billion IGR in half-year 2018, while the state’s IGR rose to N7.21 billion in half-year 2019. This implies that Zamfara recorded a 171% increase in its total IGR between half-year 2018 and 2019.

Also, Kebbi and Osun States both rank second and third respectively with the biggest growth in IGR. Specifically, Kebbi generated N2.03 billion IGR in half-year 2018, while the state’s IGR hit N4.71 billion in half-year 2019. This means the state’s IGR rose by 132%.

On the other hand, Osun State’s IGR rose from N4.7 billion in half-year 2018 to N4.72 billion in half-year 2019, representing 131% in its IGR increase.

In the meantime, while the decline in the federal allocation has been a critical concern to most states, the rise in IGR recorded in most of these states is indeed a welcome development, as this is expected to ease off pressures from the fiscal constraint currently witnessed in the economy.

PoliticsTribunal Verdict: Governor Akeredolu Congratulates APC, President Buhari by OndoTrends(op): 11:04am On Sep 12, 2019
It is with a deep sense of responsibility that the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin OLUWAROTIMI O. AKEREDOLU, SAN joins numerous other Nigerians to congratulate our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and indeed, our dear President Muhammedu Buhari over this historic judicial victory. It is undoubtedly, a national victory for all Nigerians.

According to Governor Akeredolu, the verdict exuded a combination of very enthralling components which have contributed in no small measure, to the Nation's jurisprudence. The analytical precisions as well as the near-faultless conclusions have deepened judiciality. The enviable industry collectively deployed by the reverred Lordships also depicts great hope for Nigeria's electoral process.

Mr Governor believes that, notwithstanding the right of the main opposition and its Presidential Candidate to test the verdict at the Apex Court, the right time for less distractions in our polity is now. This is more so that, the current security challenges require a mere passing attention but a dexterous unanimity of purpose and national amity devoid of political colourations.

PoliticsBuhari Makes 52 Foreign Trips In 51 Months (see Full Details) by OndoTrends(op): 6:14pm On Sep 09, 2019
...Expends about N4bn in the process . Trips not jamboree, but for nation’s good, says Shehu

…Nigeria yet to benefit from incessant President’s travels – PDP

President Muhammadu Buhari has embarked on at least 52 foreign trips since May 2015 when he was sworn-in for his first term as President till date, expending approximately N4 billion in the process.

Investigations showed that Buhari has so far visited 30 countries cutting across four continents, including Africa.

According to analysis carried out by The Daily Times, Buhari has so far visited 16 African countries, seven Asian countries, five European countries and one country in North America.

Among the 30 countries visited by the President, further analysis shows that the United States of America and the United Kingdom topped the list with a record five visits each followed by France, Chad and Saudi Arabia with three visits each.

Countries visited twice include Niger, China, Germany, South Africa, Benin, Ghana, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Senegal and Gambia.

The countries President Buhari visited once include Cameroon, India, Sudan, Iran, Malta, Ethiopia, Qatar, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Mali, Poland, Jordan, Liberia and Japan.

Similarly, checks on the President’s local trips revealed that there are some states in the country that Buhari is yet to visit aside for campaign or electioneering purposes.

Checks by The Daily Times revealed that the North East and North West are the only zones where Buhari has visited all the states with Katsina his home state enjoying the pleasure to host him the most.

His visits to Anambra, Ondo, Kogi, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states, were all campaign stops to rally support for his party in either the presidential or governorship elections. Others include Delta, Ekiti, Oyo and Abia states.

Further checks showed that while Buhari visited 30 countries in four years and three months, former President Goodluck Jonathan visited at least 30 countries between 2010 and 2015, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo had a record of 97 countries he visited from 1999 -2007.

It could be recalled that former Presidents Jonathan and Obasanjo received criticism for their numerous foreign trips while in office.

After ex-President Jonathan travelled out of the country at least 20 times in 2012, political pundits likened his many trips to that of Obasanjo, who was at a time adjudged by many as one of the world’s most travelled President with a record of 93 foreign trips within his first three years in office.

According to reports, he was said to have spent at least 340 days outside the country during his Presidency and travelled 400 times between 1999 and 2007.

Obasanjo like Buhari while delivering a speech at Oxford University said the frequent foreign trips were targeted at restoring the country’s “bad image before the comity of nations following years of brutal military regimes.

“I was elected as President of Nigeria in February of 1999 and was inaugurated as President in May 1999, when Nigeria was a pariah nation.

“Everywhere people had poor opinion about us. We were scorned at and viewed as a liability in the comity of nations.

“The situation demanded that I worked to stave off that perception. As a country under political transformation, I applied myself scrupulously to the task at hand.

“For the eight years that I served, I reached out to world leaders and continue to do so beyond my presidency. That was termed shuttle diplomacy in governance.

“I travelled extensively, canvassing global understanding and our mainstreaming into the new world order, not only for Nigeria, but for the whole of Africa. By the time I finished my two-terms, I had travelled to 97 countries,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the President for globe-trotting despite mounting economic distress and grave security situation in the country.

The party said it is unfortunate that rather than be of economic value, most of Buhari’s foreign travels have been junketing.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, told the Daily Times that the PDP had many times in the past taken up the President for his wasteful travels which has cost the nation several billions of naira.

He said these are apart from taxpayers’ money expended on Buhari’s medical tourism in the United Kingdom, describing as “untrue claims by Buhari’s handlers that his trips have been of economic benefits to the country.”

Rather, the party said his travels have not resulted in increased direct foreign investments into the country, but the loss of businesses and jobs.

But, rising in defence of the President, aides and associates of President Buhari said Nigeria under the APC administration has reaped the benefits of trips made by him since assuming office.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu is quoted to have replied to critics of the President’s frequent trips, defending the need for the trips by saying that “those trips by the President are not jamborees, but for the good of the country.”

He added that the President embarked on the trips to negotiate with foreign countries on how to repatriate stolen funds stashed in foreign accounts abroad, to seek assistance from world leaders in his administration’s fight against corruption, promote trade and investment as well in the quest to revitalise the country’s dilapidated infrastructure in the areas of rail, power and roads and other critical sectors.

Also, Chairman of the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO), Niyi Akinsuji, has slammed Buhari’s antagonists, especially the opposition PDP, for criticising the President’s foreign trips.

He alleged that the PDP has always engaged in unnecessary controversies, arguing that each of the President’s trips have been purposeful and rewarding to the country.

PoliticsMUST READ: An Open Letter To Governor Rotimi Akeredolu by OndoTrends(op): 11:38am On Sep 03, 2019
Dear Arakunrin,

I will like to begin this appreciative letter by stating that it has always been strange to address you without the full compliments of your office. Your humility confounds me. You are a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a blessed, intellectual, a well celebrated man who insists on being called Arakunrin without more. The more I think about this, the more I appreciate you for the foresight to know that being a good man, one filled with the milk of human kindness; a man whose word is his bond is all we need at this time.

Arakunrin, I write, not to dwell on titles, and your stance on them, but to thank you for being the proper omoluabi that Ondo State chose, and therefore deserve. You are, as your followers like to describe you, a real ‘talk and do’ Governor.

On the 5th day of June, year 2018, you visited linyi city in the province of Shandong in China on the invitation of the Mayor of the province as facilitated by a company indigenous to Ondo State- Klick Konnect Networks Intl. Ltd. During the trip, you professed your deep desire to see Ondo State industrialized. You expressed your determination to see Ondo State return to the days where Industrialization was real, and was not just a word that politicians used carelessly. You expressed that you wanted jobs for your people, you wanted infrastructure, wanted collaborations, wanted a better livelihood for the people of Ondo State, that you wanted knowledge transfer, and that you were impressed with the developments in the Linyi province and you want these replicated for your people.

Your passion, enthusiasm, ingenuity and leadership birthed the Ondo-Linyi bi-city relationship. I recalled that you told the owners of industries in Linyi city of the province Shandong of The Peoples Republic of China that they were welcome to invest in Ondo State, and that should they choose to come, they could count on the support of the government of Ondo State, and bank on your personal integrity.

I write to thank you for delivering so excellently on your promises within the first two years of your administration.

The most recent, and the most significant development is that thanks to your personal intervention, Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub, and their entire host community have just been electrified: this is very significant to the host community who have had no electricity for close to two decades, and it is also significant to the Linyi investors who had relied on self-generated, expensive sources to power their equipment.

How many leaders would give this course the kind of doggedness that you gave it Sir? Especially seeing that electricity is not the responsibility of the state to provide. Yet, you didn’t leave the investors to dry. Like you promised, you intervened personally and assisted in insisting that the electricity issue is sorted. Finally, thanks to you, the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub is connected, and the real journey to full-scale industrialization can now begin.

Your support goes way further than electrification Sir. I also recall the other incentives that the government of Ondo State under your leadership made available to the Linyi investors. You inspired the establishment of a wood processing factory that now produces HDF and MDF; the first of its kind in Nigeria! Because of you Sir, Ondo State now has a large scale cassava-to-ethanol factory, and our people now farm Cassava lucratively, as the factory can conveniently off-take all our cassava. This is good for our youths and our women as well. You have brought hope to our farmers and put an end to post-harvest loss of Cassava.

Because of you Sir, Ondo now has a large-scale paper mill, and books and other writing materials now cost far less.

Thanks to you Sir, a large scale textile factory that already produces threads and will begin to produce our popular fabrics by the end of the year has begun full operations, with a workforce that consists of mainly our women. Empowering our women Sir, has impacted their families positively. The textile industry has come alive in Ondo State, and it is set to attract patronage from within and outside Nigeria in particular and Africa as a whole.

Because of you Sir, Ondo now has its own manufacturer of large-scale Agro-chemicals; another plus for our farmers and for agriculture in the South-West.

Because of you Sir, a milk factory and an automobile factory will be settling into the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub before the end of this year.

Because of you our dear governor, Ondo State indigenes have been empowered in their thousands. The spillover effect has brought empowerment to transport and logistics operators, the banking sector, technicians, caterers, suppliers of raw materials, cleaners, welders, carpenters, traders, and many other beneficiaries. Our IGR is at an all-time high and you have made a very loud statement that Ondo is open for business!

Under your leadership Sir, these factories along with two others in our great state have acquired the Mancap certification- a seal of good quality, and an attestation of the export-grade standards of the goods coming out of Ondo State. This is another first from the stable of Arakunrin. Don’t be surprised Sir, that whenever you visit any nation in Africa, made in Ondo products may have arrived there ahead of you.

Because of you, the Linyi investors have shown reciprocity by engaging in very strong community social responsibility. They have put infrastructure such as transformers in place to ensure steady, stable electricity supply, free of charge to host communities. They have provided portable water to their host communities. They have employed massively from the host communities. They are training and transferring knowledge far beyond their host communities and they have assisted in providing critical infrastructure within and beyond their host communities.

Because of you, many more investors are set to throng our space from the Linyi Province and from other corners of the world. Investor confidence is at an all time high at a time when the world is conservative about investing in Africa. It takes good leadership to stand out. Thank you for being at the forefront of exemplary leadership our dear Arakunrin!

Finally, I thank you for putting so much faith in an indigenous company- Klick Konnect Networks Intl. Ltd to drive and manage the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub. Your integrity has lessened what would have otherwise been a very daunting challenge, and because of you, we have recorded so much success and experienced continental, even global recognition. We get lots of invitations from African leaders to come to their countries to replicate what is being done in Ondo State.

Thank you for giving us space to grow, and expectations to live up to. If the buck stops at your table, then the credit should as well, Sir.

Thank you for leading aright and for assembling a core, investor-friendly team who have caught your vision and are running with it.

Thank you, Arakunrin for being the poster ‘boy’ of integrity, diligence and exemplary leadership. May we be blessed to have you lead us further into a higher place of economic prosperity!

Yours sincerely,
Alex Ajipe

PoliticsGovernor Akeredolu Pays N4 Billion To Pensioners by OndoTrends(op):
Pensioners in Ondo State under the aegis of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) have commended the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for prioritizing the welfare of Pensioners by paying over N4 billion arrears of gratuity owed Pensioners by past administrations in the state.

The NUP led by its Chairman, Chief Raphael Adetuwo, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the office of the state Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday.

They also affirmed that the state government has not defaulted in the monthly payment of pension to its members since the inauguration of the Akeredolu led administration in 2017.

Speaking on behalf of the Union, its Secretary, Comrade Akin Sunday appealed to the state government to commence the implementation of the approved 33% pension increase for Pensioners which their counterparts at the federal level have been enjoying since 2014.

In his response, the state Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye charged Pensioners to join hands with the state government to block all leakages of pension fund so as to alleviate the plight of their members in the state by exposing all their members that are still collecting the pension of the dead ones among them.

Mr Aragbaiye said members of the Union should desist from colluding with serving Officers of the government who are extorting money from other Pensioners for the purpose of facilitating payment of their gratuity, saying that the state government would no longer tolerate such corruption in the system.

He said “l know that when people are retiring they contribute money to give Officers to process their gratuity and pension, this is ungodly”

Aketi had better cross to the pdp now, if he wishes to win the next guber. All the Ondo elders are opposed to the brutal killings of their daughter recently by herders and they have never been in support of the Buhari led govt from the world go. It's also glaring that aketi may be dropped at the primaries ahead of the guber elections. If he's wise enough, he should just decamp before the house is full in the pdp camp... My advice
Aketi has no business in PDP. He has paid his dues within the last 2 years and he's still doing more. His good works in the state will speak for him when the time comes, not the undoing of Buhari. APC is United in Ondo and he doesn't have any problem with the party. The party will not want to lose their chance of retaining Ondo State by giving the ticket to another candidate. He's still the best chance by far.

Rebuttal

The attention of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi has been drawn to a sponsored story that he wants to dump the All Progressives Congress(APC) for the rival People's Democratic Party (PDP) in order to contest the next year's governorship election.

The Deputy Governor is unperturbed by this sponsored story and the one's before it as these are the handiwork of attention and job seekers. These funny characters are well known within the political circle in the Ondo State.

This is to say that this is a blatant falsehood as Hon Agboola Ajayi remains a bonafide member of the APC and has no plan to dump the party for any rival political party. There is no place where the Deputy Governor has met with stalwarts of the PDP not to talk of dividing their party.

The Deputy Governor also uses the medium to apologise to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State whose name was dragged into the murky water of Ondo State politics as being the sponsor of alleged plan of Hon Agboola Ajayi to contest on the PDP's platform in Ondo State.

Hon. Agboola Ajayi also remains as the Deputy Governor and loyal to his boss, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN. He was chosen as the Deputy Governor at the benevolent of his boss, Governor Akeredolu.

This is to say emphatically that Hon Agboola Ajayi has no intention to contest against his boss.

We want to say that we know that the plan of the sponsors of the story is to cause serious rift between Governor Akeredolu and his Deputy for their selfish reasons.

It must be noted that the Hon Agboola Ajayi is a seasoned politician who knows the limitation of his office as the Deputy Governor. He is not ready in anyway to rock the boat of progress of this administration.

This is another grand plan by the busy bodies and professional blackmailers to create division within the ranks of the ruling APC in Ondo State in order to create advantage which does not exist anywhere.

Let us say for the umpteenth time that Hon Agboola Ajayi has no problem with his boss as the governor who was elected as the governor of Ondo State and he is discharging that responsibilities to the best of his ability.

The developments in all strata are feasible for the blind to see and it is well appreciated by the people of Ondo State.

Let the busy bodies and professional blackmailers find another job to do. The media should also not give space to all these noise makers.

The seat of the Deputy Governor is an exalted seat, and let those who are interested in becoming the Deputy in the next dispensation wait till when Arakunrin Akeredolu is ready to pick who will run with him in the next election for the further development of Ondo State.

These people must know that Hon Agboola Ajayi is not a desperate politician. It is God that gives position at his appointed time.
