The award was conferred on the Governor at the State Secretariat of the NUJ on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

The Chairman of the state NUJ Coucil, Comrade Adetona Aderoboye , said the award was in recognition of the giant strides of the Governor, adding that the Union decided to confer the award on Governor Akeredolu to serve as impetus for him to do more for the development of the state.

He said: ”Arakunrin Akeredolu’s diligence and unparallel contributions to the socio-economic and political development of Ondo State have not gone unnoticed by members of the Fourth Estate of the realm.

“It is worthy of note that the administration of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu took a radical departure from the past style of governance with the unprecedented commitment to the provision of Infrastructure across the nooks and crannies of the state.

“In fact, the entire landscape of the state has been turned into a huge construction site with projects in Road Construction, Education, Health, Water Supply, Agricultural and Rural Development, while it is needless to mention that the administration’s industrial drive is obviously yielding fruitful results.”

In his address, Governor Akeredolu said his administration, since inception, has done its utmost best within the available resources to create a conducive environment for journalists in the State to practise their profession through training and the provision of necessary infrastructural facilities.

According to the Governor, some of his administration’s interventions include; Upgrading of facilities and the work environment of Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, which was comatose when he took over; Rehabilitation of Adaba FM Road (ongoing) and the Rehabilitation of the road to OSRC (ongoing).

The interventions also include the Setting up of Digital television Studio for recording and presentation of government programmes for the Ministry of Information and Orientation; Resuscitation and rebranding of Ministry of Information Newsletter which carries news across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and the Procurement of two buses for Government House Press Crew to mention but a few.

Governor Akeredolu, who said he had not just watched, but received without revulsion, media attacks under the guise of press freedom and free speech, assured that his administration will never gag the Press.

He said the two major news media houses of the State Government, the OSRC and Owena Press Ltd, (publishers of The Hope newspapers) have enjoyed freedom from government meddlesomeness into their contents.

He said: “We cannot feign ignorance of the hazards of your profession to which you are exposed daily. To mitigate this in our own little way, I wish to restate my earlier decision to undertake the insurance of all journalists covering the Government House activities.”

Investment / Gov Akeredolu To Receive Implementation Plan For Ondo Deep Seaport by OndoUpdates(f): 11:50am On Nov 12, 2019
The Ondo state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN will on Thursday in Akure, the state capital receive the Project Implementation Plan for the proposed Ondo Deep Seaport from Ocean Infrastructure Management (OIM), a Spanish firm, and Franchise and Business Solutions Limited (FBS), its Nigerian partner.

The plan, which will be presented to the Governor during a high-leveled interaction meeting on the seaport project, will spell out milestones and timelines for the completion of the multi-billion dollar project.

Aina Egharevba, managing director/CEO of Amiable Consultancy and Logistics Services, consultant to the State Government on the port Project, said the deep seaport being championed by Akeredolu’s government, would open up the economy of Ondo State and create jobs for over 20,000 people in the coastal areas of the state.

Egharevba, who is a former executive director, Marine and Operations of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), said some key milestones including the preparation of the port feasibility study; conducting preliminary surveys such as the bathymetric/hydrographic survey and geotechnical survey; soil resistivity test, Met-Ocean studies; and topographic survey for the deep seaport, have been successfully achieved.

She said the feasibility study and conceptual master plan for the new port have been approved by the NPA.

Egharevba said the Spanish team will also carry out a review of key project issues and establish common understanding of the project objectives with officials of the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA).

“After this meeting, we will be moving to the next crucial stage, which is the development of the Outline Business Case (OBC) and Final Business Case (FBC). We are committed to working with the Ondo State Government to realise the full vision of the Governor for the deep seaport,” she said.

Recall that on a recent investment drive trip to The Netherlands with President Muhammadu Buhari, Akeredolu said the Ondo Deep Seaport project is the future of the state.

“We are doing things for the next generation. We have started and there is no going back. The President has said most of the times that Ondo is the right place for a deep seaport. We should not play politics with everything. This is the best place to have a deep seaport,” he said.

According to him, the state has the responsibility of preparing the ground and showing the feasibility and bankability of the project.

“The Chinese, Dutch, and others are interested because this will be a West African port; not just for the country. It is not that we are looking for money to build a port but we are looking for investors willing to invest here,” the Governor had said in Akure during the presentation of the report of the consultants to the State executive council and stakeholders of the coastal communities earlier in the year.

Health / Immunization: Ondo State Government To Reward Parents by OndoUpdates(f): 11:10am On Nov 06, 2019
By Kemi Olatunde

The Executive Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu has said parents who release their children and wards for routine immunization in the rural communities would soon be rewarded by the primary healthcare agency.

Akanbiemu disclosed this during a programme on a private radio station in Akure, which was monitored by The Hope.

According to him, the move is part of the strategies of the agency to beef up its sensitization strategies for further improvement in immunization in the state.

He noted that although the state is performing better than before in routine immunization, embarking on more strategic sensitization would allow for improved result.

While reeling out the statistics, Akanbiemu said the state has moved from 65 percent recorded on immunization few years ago to 79 percent, adding that the target is to record 100 percent performance in immunization.

He hinted that the idea of rewarding household with highest record of immunization is to further open the eyes of the people in the community to the importance of participating in the immunization of their children and wards.

The Executive Secretary also explained that the agency has embarked on expansion of some facilities which can no longer accommodate patients due to the growing number of the people in the area.

He said the agency has recently relocated the facility in Oke Mapo, Owo after it discovered the need for a bigger accommodation with the quality of services it’s rendering.

Akanbiemu stressed that the Agency has also embarked on more training of its officers and both agency and adhoc staff at the facility level.

The essence of the training especially for those at the facility according to him is the need for them to have attitudinal change, noting that the agency will to continue harp on this for better performance.

However, he added that, as a way of encouraging the facilities to perform better, the agency has also started motivating the facilities by making more fund available for better service at the health centers.
Politics / WOFEE Loan: Ondo State Government Appeals To FG by OndoUpdates(f): 10:17am On Nov 01, 2019
Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has appealed to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to release the second tranche of the Women Fund for Economic Empowerment, (WOFEE) loan to the state.

He made the call while declaring open the 19th National Women Council Meeting held at the International Event centre, the Dome, in Akure the state capital.

The governor was represented by his deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi,. He said the state government has paid its counterpart contribution of N6million to complement the federal government’s contribution to the Bank of Industry in 2005 for helping poor women farmers.

“The first tranche of the loan was distributed to 38 women cooperatives in 2005/2006. A total of N9,275,000 was released to the cooperative societies due to be repaid within 24 months.

“As at 1st August, 2019, a sum of N10,233,288.86 consisting of recovered loan, undisbursed fund and the two per cent interest on the fund in the custody of Bank of Agriculture was due for second disbursement.

“Despite 80% recovery in respect of the first tranche, the Bank of Agriculture is yet to disburse the second tranche. There is seemingly a stalemate”. He noted.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Equality and social inclusion: A panacea for peace, security and sustainable development in Nigeria”, the governor stressed the need to make a concerted effort to ensure gender mainstreaming in our social development agenda.

Akeredolu described social inclusion as a way of finding a stable society where no one is discriminated against, saying this guarantees peace, security and sustainable development.

He therefore called on women to rise up and play their necessary roles in every facet of the national development.

He enjoined the council to consider the overall objectives of the Economic Recovery and Growth plan for social development in the formulation of national social policies for Nigeria.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Dame Pauline Tallen commended the South West governors, and rated them high as far as women inclusion in governance is concerned.

She noted that social justice is a catalyst for peace and harmony.

She condemned the prevailing dastardly acts against women and children across the nation, including the rehabilitation centre under the guise of religion houses in Kaduna and baby factories across the country.

Mrs Tallen appealed to state governors to domesticate the Child Right Act in order to ensure that perpetrators of violence against children are punished.

She further urged governors to partner the ministry at ensuring that children in the grassroots are enrolled in school, while stressing the need for women to be educated.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the wife of the state governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu described the annual event as an avenue for participants to interact, network and get acquainted with the culture of the host State in a bid to forging national integration.

Highlights of the event include presentation of awards to some governors who allow women inclusion in their administration. They are the governors of Ondo State, Kwara, Sokoto, Lagos, Kaduna and Akwa-Ibom.

Politics / Adequate Water Supply Central To Life And Civilization by OndoUpdates(f): 3:20pm On Oct 31, 2019
There is truly something about giving, particularly so, in leadership. Truly, the receivers feel good, but do take note that the givers also feel good; the very act of giving uplifts the spirit of the givers. Leaders give and leadership is about giving;

Wise leaders subscribe to what Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929 - 1968) once said, “The time is always right to do what is right”. Wise leaders are good servants and good leaders. “The principle of service is what separates true leaders from glory seekers” And true service inspires service. A leader possesses his own standards, values and norms.

The ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN has over time been described as pure, peaceable, quiet, reconciling, gentle, calm and a man with a great Ocean of service to the people.

I want to point out here that, the most important thing in human life is to promote human values as the foundation of daily life. Values are wisdom and they can also serve as supply of good foundations for successful leadership and good community living.

20% of the inhabitants of Aratunsin in Akure the ondo state capital have regular supply of pipe borne water while the remaining 80% do not have access to regular supply of pipe borne water. This figures indicates that access to portable water supply at Aratunsin comnunity is very poor.

Here is the good news! Akeredolu has approved the construction of a water facility that will supply 100, 000 litters of water per day to the inhabitants of Aratunsin community of Akure south local government area of Ondo state. The water source is 5 kilometres away and totally free. Even better than the recommendations and standard of UNICEF.

According to UNICEF Nigeria, the Assembly established that it is the right of every human being to have access to sufficient water for personal and domestic uses (between 50 and 100 litres of water per person per day), which must be safe, acceptable and affordable (water costs should not exceed 3% of any household income), and physically accessible (the water source has to be within 1,000 metres of the home and collection time should not exceed 30 minutes).

Aketi has the leadership capabilities and wisdom to do things for his people which will better the quality of their lives.

According to the USAID, access to improved water and sanitation is a daily challenge for most Nigerians. But reverse is the case in ondo state. The citizens in st. Peter unity sec. School Akure, Agape junction Idanre road, Illekun Housing estate oda road, state audit headquaters alagbaka, mechanic village, oke aro, ijapo extension, ijomu junction, light and life , ijigba 1 ikajola, etc. across the 18 local government areas enjoy portable water from the 750 boreholes constructed in the state.

most of the water pipes located in the 18 local government areas of the state were either busted or laid in drainages. In the light of this the residents were cut off from regular water supply and also exposed to diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea.

The residents of Ondo state were forced to have an alternative source of water supply due to the “epileptic” water supply experienced in the state. 20% of the inhabitants depend on water tankers for their source of water 18% of the inhabitants depend on water vendors for their sources of water and about 36% of the inhabitants have none.

Decisions taken by this leader, governor Akeredolu is driven by his visions of tomorrow and based on the experiences garnered from the past.

Refreshing Perspectives of Governor Akeredolu is changing the once upon a time impossibility to possibilities.
Water is life; adequate supply of water is paramount to life and civilization.

Leaders lead by serving others; they are here to serve, not to be served. Of a truth, Leadership servitude indeed nourishes the spirit - The words of Aketi.

Investment / NDDC Expedites N6billion Power Project For 2,000 Ondo Communities by OndoUpdates(f): 8:23pm On Oct 30, 2019
The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has stepped up work on the N6 billion 132KV Transmission Line and 132/33KV Sub Station which it is constructing at Okitipupa in Ondo State, to cover about 2,000 communities.

Speaking during an inspection of the project in the company of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr Agboola Ajayi, the NDDC Acting
Managing Director, Dr Akwagaga Enyia, said she was excited that the Commission was constructing “a huge power station” in the oil-producing area of the state.

She said: “I was told that for some time, there was delay in the
progress of work at the site. When I came on board as the Acting MD, I
made sure that funds were released to put the project on fast-track.
That is why work is going on at a much faster pace now.”

Dr Enyia stated that it was one of the key projects with many months of
outstanding Interim Payment Certificates, IPC, which were cleared to
pave way for progress at the sites.

The NDDC boss assured that as more funds were made available to the
Commission, payment would be sustained to guarantee early completion of
the project, stating that the contractor had promised to complete the
project by the first quarter of 2020.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor gave kudos to the NDDC, stating that
the Commission had done well in spite of some challenges which were
expected in any organization, especially an interventionist agency.

He expressed delight that over 2,000 oil-producing communities spread
across five local government areas will benefit from the sub-station.

He advised: “We must look at how we can strengthen the Commission to
deliver on its mandate. We need to encourage and support NDDC to do more
for the people of the region.

Ajayi commended Dr Enyia for being the first NDDC Chief Executive
Officer to personally inspect the power station, noting that the visit
offered her the opportunity to see what NDDC was paying for.

He stated: “For us, this is the most important project NDDC is executing
in Ondo State. If you deliver this project, you will have delivered the
whole of Ondo South from the pains of lack of public power supply. All
of us will be happy with you and the economy of the area, which had been
crippled for many years, will begin to boom.”

The Deputy Governor emphasized that the project was very dear to the
hearts of the people, He, therefore, urged the NDDC and the Federal
Government not to relent until the project was completed.

In his own remarks, the Executive Director Engineering and Technical
Services, Niger Delta Power Holding Co Ltd., Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele,
said the inspection by NDDC was very significant because it underscored
the importance of collaboration between the various agencies of
government.

He said that the NDDC sub-station would be fed from NDPHC power station
in Omotosho, which, according to him, was grossly underutilized. “We
have four turbines at the station, but at the moment we are firing only
one, while the rest are idle,” he said.

Oyedele observed that the southern senatorial district of Ondo state
represents the core economic base of the state as it is the
oil-producing area. He lamented that the absence of public power supply
in the area had strangulated the state’s economy for 12 years.

He noted that the NDDC sub-station was a critical power infrastructure
for the people of the area because even when PHCN had energized the
Okitipupa power line, it would be largely ineffective until the NDDC
sub-station comes on stream.

Giving a brief of the project, the Managing Director of Stedy
Engineering Ltd, Mr Benson Obayelu, said that the scope covers the
evacuation of light from Omotosho with a step down at Ireje through a
132KV double circuit line with two 30/40MVA transformers at Okitipupa.

He said that the transmission lines run through Ireje with 145
electricity towers that are standing on concrete foundations. He noted
that all the materials needed for the project were already on site at
Okitipupa. The materials include 45 kilometres of wires and 240
kilometres of conductors.

He re-stated that five local government areas in the southern Senatorial
district of Ondo State that have been without public power supply would
be connected when the project was completed.

A traditional ruler from Ilaje Local Government Area, Oba Oluwashegun
Akinyomi, thanked the NDDC for the intervention, noting that all hands
were on deck to deliver the project expeditiously.

He applauded NDDC for stepping in to resolve a prolonged electricity
problem in the oil producing communities.

Politics / Minimum Wage To Cost Ondo N45billion by OndoUpdates(f): 1:34pm On Oct 16, 2019
The implementation of the N30,000 new minimum wage in Ondo State will cost the government N45 billion.

This represents 20 percent increase in the current wage bill of workers in the state which stood at about N36 billion.

Ondo State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan declared this in an interview with The Hope, yesterday.

He said :”The minimum wage which our workers rightly deserve will increase our wage burden between 18 and 20 percent on monthly basis when implemented “.

According to him, the state government will need additional N9 billion to meet up with the payment annually.

His words: In terms of naira and kobo, we are talking about a wage bill from about N36b on yearly basis to about N45b when fully implemented”.

Igbasan however called for the review of the present revenue sharing formula that will give more money to the state and local governments, saying development come from the grassroots.

He said in a situation where the federal government gets 52 percent of the revenues from the federation account is unfair, calling on the federal government to see the need for the review of the sharing formula in favour of state and local governments.

Igbasan said the federal government has put so many things in her purview which it is unable to manage effectively like primary health care.

“I have said it at different fora, for state government to be able to conveniently pay the new minimum wage without downsizing, right sizing or owing workers salaries, something needs to be done to the revenue sharing formula.

There are so many things that the federal government has taken upon itself which are not effective because it is not within its purview to do so.

“Federal government should give out part of what it has now. The kind of structure we have is too centralized and most of these health facilities are domesticated at the grassroots level. They should give more power to the state and local governments to handle what are domiciled within their territories.”

Igbasan observed that it is even difficult for federal government to implement the N30,000 minimum wage despite its huge share in the revenue from the federation account.

The commissioner puts the total number of civil servants in the state, including that of local governments at 72,985 and pensioners 22, 253.

He indicated the possibility of an increase in the number of workers in the state as a result of the newly recruited workers in the health and other sectors and assured that as soon as the coast is clear, workers in the state will enjoy the new minimum wage.

He affirmed that the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will not downsize the workforce but create an efficient workforce that will drive productivity and efficient administration.” He is a governor that I know very well, he has said it several times that he is not interested in sending anybody packing before his retirement age. You can even see the demonstration of that in all MDAs that were allowed to complete their terms before they were disengaged.”

On the recently approved N50bn bond, Igbasan said the process is ongoing as the state is yet to receive it, adding that it will be utilized before the end of the year to fastrack massive infrastructural development across the state.

Politics / Akeredolu Promises More Dividends Of Good Governance by OndoUpdates(f): 8:10am On Sep 21, 2019
...As Over 3000 ADC Members Join APC In Ondo

Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has said the current infrastructural development and the bountiful dividends of good governance being experienced across the state are mere tip of the massive turn - around his administration is poised to entrench in the state.

Governor Akeredolu made the promise at the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the ceremony to receive over 3000 members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) into the APC.

The defectors, led by Hon. Femi Bello, include all party executives of ADC in the 11 wards in Akure South Local Government Area, party elders and their followers.

They were received into the APC fold by the state Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, who later handed them over to Governor Akeredolu, who doubles as the leader of the party in the state.

Arakunrin Akeredolu said the people of the state will witness unprecedented development by the time the deep sea port project is achieved in the state.

He said:"We have just started. We will do more and the people of Ondo State will surely experience massive development

"We are pursuing the Port of Ondo with all vigor and it will be successful. We have written and the process is on. We will also start our Bitumen exploration

"Go to Ore and see how minimum of 15 trailers now supply cassava for the Cassava-to-Ethanol plant. Even farmers are bringing cassava from other states. Before December, the Ore Flyover will also be ready. We will use the first flyover in the state. "

The governor charged the new members to attend meetings at their various wards and ensure that the party remains in government.

Speaking, Hon. Femi Bello, who led the decampees, said his decision to lead members and supporters of the ADC in Akure into the APC was informed by the gaint strides of the Akeredolu’s administration in Akure, the state capital.

He said even if the Governor was a native of Akure, he would not have accomplished the milestone of achivements that have been recorded in the state capital.

Hon. Bello particularly lauded the Governor for his intervention in the construction of Oke-Ogba Road, "A" Division /NEPA /Ijoka Road Dualization, Ijoka - Idanre Road, the Orita Obele Road, Iwalewa Road, Aburo Road and the Gaga Road among others.

While commending the governor for the ongoing Dualization of Oda Road, Hon. Bello said the construction of the highly deplorable Gaga road should have been used to name the area after the Govenor as "Gaga Aketi Village".

He said the collapse of the political structures of ADC in Akure South Local Government to fuse it with APC was an unconditional and unanimous decision of all members of ADC in the Local Government and in appreciation of the remarkable performance of the APC controlled government in Ondo State.

Welcoming the defectors, Adetimehin described APC as a party that treats each member equally with clear-cut welfarist ideology for the masses .

He assured that the decampees would enjoy level-playing ground, emphasising that they have equal rights and treatment as the old members of the party.

The APC Chairman said the unprecedented performance of Arakunrin Akeredolu across sectors and in all parts of the state have made the project of continuity easy for APC in the state.

He said:"The APC is the only ideological party that makes promises and fulfil it. In Ondo State here, Akeredolu's oppositions have attested to the fact that he has performed well. He inherited seven months salary arrears and has already cleared six out of it. He has not owed any salary. He's paying salary and pension as and when due

"This government has employed many doctors and nurses. This government has also injected 50 administrative officers into the civil service.

"Those who are joining us today are very fortunate. In Akure, look at the township roads and the inter streets roads. If you go to Ijoka very soon, you will know there won't be traffic jam there any longer."

The chairman stressed the need for the new members to attend meetings regularly, noting that meeting is very important in political party.

Twenty years after Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, was disconnected for non-payment of electricity bills, the community and others in the council have been reconnected to the national grid.

The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Klick Konnect Networks International Ltd, Mr. Alex Ajipe, who disclosed this through a letter to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said the reconnection was made possible by the intervention of the governor.

Ajipe facilitated the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub where several companies are situated.

He said the conglomerate at Ore reconnected the communities as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the companies.

The letter said: “The most significant development is that we must thank you for your intervention. Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub and their entire host community have just been electrified.

“This is very significant to the host community, who has had no electricity for close to two decades. It is also significant to the Linyi investors, who had relied on self-generated, expensive sources to power their equipment.”

Besides reconnection to the national grid, Ajipe said the presence of the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub in Ore has increased the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the government.

Other CSR of the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub, he said, included the provision of transformers in order to ensure steady, stable electricity supply and provision of potable water.
