PoliticsOndo Set To Host Over 6,000 Young Entreprenuers by OndoUpdates(op): 7:18am On Jul 30, 2019
As part of his administration's commitment to building young Entreprenuers and attracting massive investment into Ondo State, the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has declared that the state is prepared to host the sixth edition of Africa's Young Entreprenuers Empowerment Nigeria (AYEEN) 2019 Convention.

The Africa's Young Entreprenuers is a platform with a vision of successfully developing Africa’s budding entrepreneurs through mutual networking, and with established captains of industries.

The A.Y.E brings learning, resources and business acumen, with the aim of developing young entrepreneurs within the age of 18 - 45 with 12.6 million members in 20 African Countries.

Receiving the delegation of the A. Y. E, led by the President, Summy Francis, at the Governor's Office, Alagbaka, Akure, Governor Akeredolu said the state will cooperate and host the coming convention of the organisation, billed to hold on Saturday, December 14th, 2019.

Akeredolu said he is particularly interested in the building of young entrepreneurs and the far reaching effects on the people, especially the young ones.

He said the A. Y. E projects was concerned about giving back to the people and reaching out to the poorest of the poor so as to make them self reliant in the future.

Arakunrin Akeredolu informed that the state had also gathered a number of young entrepreneurs under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programs.

Speaking earlier, the President of A. Y. E, Francis, said the convention, when hosted by the state, will boost the economic activities and also provide opportunity for young Enterprenuers and students in the state.

While informing that the theme of the convention is "Enterprenuership intervention for poverty eradication", Francis said the only way to stop the spread of poverty, especially among young people, was to empower them.

He highlighted some of the program of the organisation, which included the Enter Cycle Fund for Grassroot and SMEs, as a means of helping young SMEs and Enterprenuers grow their ideas and Bussiness.

Science/TechnologyAkeredolu Advocates ICT Training For Ondo State Youth by OndoUpdates(op): 10:48am On Jul 29, 2019
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services are in high demand globally. As the world embraces digital technology, it is imperative for the youth to get equipped with the needed skills to command relevance in the economy.

The Akeredolu-led administration has consistently demonstrated its commitment to driving growth and development in the State by initiating schemes and programs targeted at training youths in the areas of information and communication technology.

Recently, Ondo State’s Information Technology Agency (SITA), in collaboration with the Premier Hub Innovation Centre in Akurer, organized a training at the digital village

The program covered electric, building and automobile training. It was organized as a follow-up program on the first successful program in the Digital Village.

The Digital Village projects are programs set up across the State to train over 90 youths monthly with a view to drastically reducing unemployment in the State.

According to the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and Chairman of the State Information and Technology Agency, Olumbe Akinugbe, the ICT Reource-based centres are furnihshed with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.

As stated by the South West Regional Manager of American Tower Company (ATC) Mr. Michael Ogunfowora, Ondo State is the first and only State in Nigeria to establish five Digital Village projects within a year, ranking high in digital literacy programs across the Country.

Another outstanding leap in bolstering ICT skill among youths of the State is the collaboration between the Offfice of Innovation and Partnerships (ION), Ondo State and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), to organize a career path program for unemployed youths in different enterprises within the State. Successively, data science classes are organized for select participants, to further enhance their skills.

Conjointly, a partnership between ION and Facebook will have the team from Facebook train young owners of small and medium sized Enterprises on the use of social media platforms and tools for practical business growth.

This dynamism by the State Government to equip youths with ICT skills has been lauded in various quarters. The ingenious approach to tackling unemployment, poverty and restlessness by facilitating ICT trainings have gone a long way in curtailing these menaces.

Agriculture‘semi-mechanized Abattoir Boosts Ondo’s IGR’ by OndoUpdates(op): 10:17am On Jul 29, 2019
Ondo State Semi Mechanised Abattoir has started boosting the state IGR since it commenced operation this year to a tune of N1.5million naira monthly.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Asiwaju Adegboyega Adefarati made this known in a chat with The Hope in Akure.

Adefarati said the Abattoir is now functioning and slaughters prepare an average of 70 cows per day since it commenced operation this year.

He said the Abattoir has become a central slaughtering slab for the Akure South and North local government areas saying that other slaughtering slabs are not allowed to operate again.

The decision to concentrate on the Central Abattoir, Adefarati said is not because of the IGR but to ensure that wholesome meat is processed for the citizens of the state.

” We do not allow any other slaughtering slab within the two local government areas because we want to maintain the hygiene of the meat for human consumption.

A Veterinary doctor must inspect the cows before slaughtering them to ascertain whether they are fit for consumption to provide wholesome meat to the people of the state”, he said.

He disclosed that the state has begun to plan for the establishment of such abattoirs within the Southern and Northern senatorial districts in the state.

Speaking on the development, the Director of the State Veterinary Department of the State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Adebayo Ehinmowo declared that there had been no revenue loss since the Abattoir commenced operation.

Ehinmowo said each animal is slaughtered at the rate of N2,000 as against the former N500 indicating that the state now gets more than 50 percent of what it used to get before.

He said there are about 10 sharing points outside the Abattoir for those who may want to purchase parts of the animal like the leg, hand, head or to buy half or quarter part of the animal.

He urged people to patronize the Abattoir which he said is not only economical, but ensuring that the meat are good for human consumption.

He also encouraged those for ceremonial slaughtering of cows to make advantage use of the development which he said would be easier for them, rather than buying and transporting the cow home for slaughtering.

Speaking on the development, the state Chairman of the National Cattle Butchers Union of Nigeria, Alhaji Asimiyu Tella said they have been able to cue in to the system.

He urged government to help in reduction of the payment which he observed is on the high side saying that cattle business is not encouraged at present.

“Government should help us reduce the payment for slaughtering to N1,000 instead of N2,000 because market for cow business is not encouraging now”, he said.

It would be noted that the Abattoir had been in construction for over twenty five years, but now made functional by the Akeredolu-led administration.

PoliticsI'll Create Compact LCDAs In Ondo – Akeredolu by OndoUpdates(op): 7:37am On Jul 29, 2019
As part of efforts to bring government closer to the people, governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has said that his government was prepared to create a compact Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the next few months.

Akeredolu said the LCDAs which are to fast track the development of the grassroots would be given speedy approval by his administration.

He stated this at the weekend while receiving reports of the Committee on Creation of Local Council Development Areas at his office in Akure.

Akeredolu had on March 21, 2019 constituted the committee to take memoranda from communities seeking LCDAs.

He explained that his government was determined to accelerate all-round development of the people at the grassroots level.

While appreciating members of the committee for a good job done, Akeredolu said he would subject the report to a thorough scrutiny before presenting it at the state executive council meeting for ratification.

The governor said he was aware that the task the committee undertook was not the easiest anybody could do because of the seriousness the people attached to the issue of local government creation.

“We will look into this and make sure that in few months, we create the LCDAs. It’s usual we still subject it to scrutiny before exco looks at it,” he said.

Submitting the report, the chairman of the committee, Lanke Odogiyan, said his team received 94 memoranda requesting for 105 LCDAs.

Odogiyan added that the committee sieved through the huge documents to remove the chaffs from the grains.

Odogiyan said: “After collating the requests and dissecting them, we embarked on a statewide public hearing which afforded sponsors of memos the opportunity to defend and present their memos.”

CrimeNative’s Stomach Ripped Open As Rubber War Rages In Ondo by OndoUpdates(op): 12:26pm On Jul 28, 2019
Blood flowed as youths of Araromi Obu and lkales, Ondo State battled over land. No fewer than 14 persons have been arrested by the police and charged to court for allegedly destroying properties worth millions of naira.

An Akure High Court, presided by Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu, had granted customary ownership of the expanse of land where a rubber plantation is located and many other lands in dispute to the Ikales.

This happened 15 years after the case was instituted by the monarch of Araromi-Obu, Oba Aderemi Adelola, against his counterpart in Ikoya, Oba Faduyile. Another defendant was the Lisa of Ikoya, Chief Aderoloye Netufo.

The disputed land ceded to the Ikale by court’s pronouncement include Araromi-Obu, Ajebamidele, Aiyesan, Tenola, Koseru, Oniparaga, Kajola, Imorun, Laleipa, Aiyetimbo, Ajebambo, Adewinle, Akinseye, Okefara, Omowole, Agoidogun, Obadoore, Ogunlepa, Onipetesi, Mile 49, Labon, Temidire, Sakoto1 and 11, Basola 1 and 11, Ago Alaiye, Ayetoro 1 and II, and Onitea. But less than a month after the court verdict, some youths went to war in Araromi Obu and Ago Alaye communities.

Four persons were hacked to death in the farm, houses were torched, vehicles razed and hundreds displaced as violence reigned for days.

There have been allegations and counter-allegations of who the aggressor was. In the crisis, the monarch of Araromi-Obu, Adelola, escaped death by whiskers when his convoy was attacked by suspected hoodlums while returning from a trip from Akure, the state capital.

Speaking with Sunday Vanguard, the President of the Araromi-Obu Development Union, Senator Omololu Meroyi, said, “Four people have been killed, eight persons injured while five houses were burnt at Ago-Alaye.

“The Araromi-Obu people have been under severe attack by their Ikale neighbours over the judgment of an Akure High Court that ceded part of their land to Ikale people. “Our experiences have been bitter in the last two weeks. Some people want to drive us away from our land.

These people were born in Araromi Obu, they lived with us and never claimed to be landlords. “There is a court judgment that ceded our lands to Ikale people. Rather than wait for the law to take its course, these people have taken the law into their hands. “We will not cede an inch of our land to anybody. We are ready to defend our land with our blood.

Local government people can no longer work. They invaded our land and prevented our people from going to farm. We are being suppressed in our land”.

A former Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Prince Olu Falolu, also said, “The judgment has been appealed while a stay of execution has also been filed at the appellate court.

“On daily basis, they have been tapping rubber, carting away farm produce and harassing farmers. We have notified the government, the state Commissioner of Police and other security services. Yet they have not stopped brutalizing our people.

“We are no cowards but civilised people. If our patience is exhausted, we will be forced to take the law into our hands.”

But responding, the traditional ruler of Ikaleland, Oba George Babatunde Faduyile, said, “In the aftermath of the current crisis, Ikales are being painted by security agencies as the aggressors and are being so treated.

This, of course, is not correct. “Up till today, we have not been served with any application for stay of judgement. “While the case was on, Araromi Obu people, including the Ajobu, took over lands being used by Ikales for hunting and farming and started planting cash crops there.

“While my people were on their way to hunt and farm located on the way to Araromi Obu, a group of Ikales and their tenants were ambushed and attacked so badly that the intestines of one of them came out after his stomach was ripped open with machete while others sustained severe gunshot wounds.

“All hell broke loose. While the injured were being taken away for treatment, information filtered into Ago Alaye that the man whose intestines came out had died and this started instant mob reaction which saw some houses of Araromi people being torched.

“There were reprisal against Ikales in Araromi many of whom have now fled their houses for safety. In all of these, security agencies have concentrated their hostilities on Ikales portraying them as the aggressors while treating Obu people with kid gloves”.

Speaking on behalf of the Ikale people, High Chief Jacob Akeremale alleged that the people of Araromi Obu were the aggressors, saying they are sharing their displeasure over the judgement of the High Court by attacking the Ikale people. He said the people of Araromi Obu started the attack on Ikale people who are ready to take over the land “but since they have approached the Appeal Court, we have put on hold our taking over of the land”.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Ago Alaye community and thereafter visited the troubled communities. While commending the Ajobu, Adelola, for maintaining the peace in the community by appealing to his people against reprisal attack, Akeredolu said, “We will not allow miscreants to disturb the peace in this community”.

Police spokesperson in Ondo State, Femi Joseph, said mobile policemen had been deployed to in the communities, adding that “the command has been able to put the situation under control”. Meanwhile, reports say suspects arrested in connection with the violence in the communities have been ordered to be remanded in prison custody by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court.

PoliticsGovernor Akeredolu Set To Create Council Areas by OndoUpdates(op): 7:26pm On Jul 26, 2019
Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has said his administration would in the next few months create Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) for the development of the grassroots.

Akeredolu said his government was determined to make necessary moves that would accelerate all-round development of the people at the grassroots level.

He, however, assured the people of the state that the government would not create LCDAs which number would be more than necessary.

The Governor spoke in his office on Friday while receiving the report of the Committee on Creation of Local Council Development Areas led by the Chairman, Prince Lanke Odogiyan.

Arakunrin Akeredolu expressed the appreciation of the state government to the chairman and members of the committee for a thorough job done.

He said he was aware that the task they undertook was not the easiest anybody could do because of the seriousness the people attached to the issue of local government creation.

Akeredolu said: "We will look into this and make sure that in few months, we create the LCDAs. It's usual we still subject this to other people to look before exco looks at it."

The governor had on March 21, 2019 constituted the committee to look into the possibility of creating LCDAs in the state.

He said his decision was hinged on genuine economic development of the people.

According to the governor, the exercise would ultimately benefit the people and restore their dignity and pride as prime producers, and not as incurable consumers of other people's ideas and products.

CrimeWhy Judiciary Must Fast-track Rape Cases – Mrs. Akeredolu by OndoUpdates(op): 1:32pm On Jul 26, 2019
Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has called on the judiciary to fast-track rape cases and enforce necessary punishment on the perpetrators in order to serve as deterrent to other randy men.

Akeredolu made the call during a ‘Walk Against Rape’ carried out across the length and breadth of the state on her directive.

Mrs. Akeredolu who led the Walk in Akure, the state capital, as part of the advocacy strategies to combat the menace, called for a stiffer penalty for the perpetrators of such act, saying enough is enough.

The ‘Walk Against Rape’ which took off at the palace of the Deji of Akure kingdom featured representatives of women associations, law enforcement agencies, political office holders, school children, and passionate individuals holding placards with several inscriptions about rape.

Arabinrin Akeredolu who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Titi Adeyemi, noted that the Walk is being done across the 18 local government areas of the state simultaneously.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards read, “No mercy for Rapist; Rape and Rot in jail; Judiciary, fast-track Rape cases, delay adds salt to injury; stop sexual abuse of minors; do not hide rapists, speak out” among others.

Deji of Akure kingdom, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, addressing the participants in his palace, assured of his support in the fight against rapists through traditional method.

He noted that any suspected perpetrator should be brought to his palace to drink traditional oath water before being handed over to the security agents.

He, therefore appreciated the steps taken by Mrs. Akeredolu towards protecting underage girls against sexual abuse in the state.

The only female lawmaker in the state House of Assembly, Mrs. Favour Tomomewo, said that the time to enforce anti-rape law is now, saying there is no more mercy for rapists.

The Special Assistant to Mrs. Akeredolu on Media, Miss Tobi Fademi, urged journalists to use their professional tools in fighting the menace in the society, by propagating information about rape and the punishment attached.

Personalities who coordinated the Walk which had female Political officials, in attendance included including the Special Assistants to the Governor on Special Duties, Mr. Henry Akingbemile, on Gender, Research and documentation Mrs. Tope Daniyan, on online media, Mr. Rowland Ihedioghara, and the Personal Assistant to Mrs. Akeredolu, Mrs. Elizabeth Akpan.

PoliticsMiyetti Allah Vigilantes In Ondo, Plan To Discredit Us, Says Akeredolu by OndoUpdates(op): 10:52am On Jul 26, 2019
Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has accused his political opponents of attempt to incite the people against his government, re-affirming that he was not aware of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) enlistment as vigilantes in the state.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Akure yesterday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, who said the government promptly reacted to the situation.

There was a widespread outcry over the co-option of MACBAN Fulani herdsmen as vigilante, who were armed and with ID card in Akoko area of the state on Monday.

But Ojogo said: “An orchestrated campaign in respect of the above subject matter. The intention of the sponsors and their echoers is undoubtedly to discredit the administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN) and ostensibly incite the people against the Ondo State government.

“It is pertinent to recall that upon the circulation of the story in the social media about the purported formation of an armed vigilance group by the Miyetti Allah, Governor Akeredolu was swift in his reaction to the development. Not only did he disown the move, if at all.

“At the risk of repeating himself, Governor Akeredolu re-affirmed the position of government on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 when he was accosted by reporters who sought further information on the matter.”

According to him, the leadership of the Miyetti Allah in the state has equally disowned the report and even provided further insights into actionable steps to deal with whoever conducts self in a manner that do not conform with the position of government.

“Succinctly therefore, the scheming media spins on the issue can only be the handiwork of divisive elements and their collaborators whose defeated desire is to de-market the Ondo State government through unfounded claims and gross mischief.

“The position of Governor Akeredolu on this matter stands. Government will not allow armed Fulani vigilante in any part of Ondo State,” he said.

PoliticsIndustrialization Grandplan, Akeredolu’s Remarkable Strides In Ondo State by OndoUpdates(op): 6:42am On Jul 26, 2019
By Olusola Akinbinu.

Industrialization is a social economic mechanism of transforming a group of people or society from an agrarian society, or one of limited commercial viability into an industrial society. This involves the extensive re-organization of the local economy for manufacturing purposes.

The impact of industrialization in the concerned communities is noticed in rising income levels among the people, rise in gross domestic product-GDP, increased demand for consumer goods and services of various kinds, and further stimulus to industrial development and economic growth.

Nigeria has not had an impressive story in recent time on Industrialization. Manufacturing of value-added products as a percentage of GDP was about five percent in 2000 (a proportion less than what we had in value-added manufacturing in 1960). Manufacturing soared in Nigeria in the oil boom era (1973-81, with manufacturing share of GDP reaching 11 percent), Ondo state had a fair share of industries within this period, among which include the Nigeria-Romanian Wood Industry (NIROWI), Oluwa Glass Industry, Premier Metals and a number of others, but this had had a precipitous decline owing to a cumulative of national economic factors, like unstable power supplies, political instability, exchange rate parity etc. making the country depend largely on export of natural resources.

Industrial presence thereafter have largely being a remnant of what it used to be, major warehouses have transformed to religious centres. Dense clustered population of people and/or closeness to international waterways (as found of Lagos, Ogun state and Ibadan) have been the major motivation to siting and sustenance industries in Nigeria in the latest periods. This account for why swelling cities due to urban-pull, having high population of vulnerable labour have been the haven manufacturers in recent times. These cheap factors clearly exclude Ondo state as an attractive destination.

HealthCommissioner Pays Bill For Newborn Triplets Detained By Hospital by OndoUpdates(op): 6:34pm On Jul 20, 2019
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Donald Ojogo, on Thursday, paid the N110,000 medical bill incurred by one Abiodun Omole, whose wife, Folashade, was delivered of a set of triplets at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

This followed an appeal for help on social media as a result of the alleged detention of the mother and the newborn babies by the hospital management over the unpaid bill.

Our correspondent learnt that Folashade was delivered of the babies through caesarean section on May 27, 2019.

However, she was allegedly not allowed to go home with her babies by the FMC management due to the none settlement of the bill.

The situation made Abiodun, a bricklayer, to cry out for help.

The appeal for donation on social media read, “They have been discharged but have remained at the Neonatal Ward of the hospital, because they have yet to settle the outstanding bill of N110,000.

“We appeal to the public to please put smiles on the faces of this couple by helping out with the said sum or in any other way they wish to be a blessing to this family beyond the settlement of the hospital bill as the babies will still require care after being discharged from the hospital.

“All donations should be paid into the account of the triplets’ mother.”

Be courageous to always speak the truth, Akeredolu tells lawyers

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Friday urged lawyers to demonstrate enough courage to speak the truth always.

He said doing so should be to guide and not to create confusion deliberately for personal aggrandisement because the country needs them more than ever to intervene at crucial moments.

He challenged them that as lawyers, they should take back the law profession as the conscience of the nation.

Akeredolu spoke during the grand finale of the 2019 Annual Law Week of Owo Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Arakunrin Akeredolu, who was inaugurated as the Grand Patron of the Owo Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, alongside his wife, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, said the current state of quietude in the affairs of the association is unsettling.

He told the lawyers not to allow anyone to guess where they stand on matters which affect the health of the country.

While appreciating the Owo branch of NBA for the honour, the governor attributed to all, the modest achievements considered good enough to warrant the uncommon recognition.

According to him, the achievements will not
have been possible without their continued support.

He said: 'A professional journey of over four decades is long enough, no doubt, for observers to notice. It is mollifying to note that our consistent advocacy for the downtrodden and unyielding commitment to the development of any place considered our space have earned us these accoladesWe are eternally grateful.

'Our profession, the most noble on the surface of earth, offers so much in terms of opportunities to impact, positively, on the society.

"For those of us lucky enough to have partaken of the best tradition inherited from our professional forbears, we could not afford to fail. Not only did we meet landmark achievements, engendered by quintessential training, in virtually all human endeavours, we were conscious, acutely, of the onerous responsibilities placed on our shoulders as lawyers.'

The South West Governors Forum has urged all Northerners, especially Fulani nationalities living in the region to disregard calls by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) to leave the region, describing the statement as divisive, unfortunate and unexpected.

The chairman of the forum and Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu in a statement he personally signed and released to newsmen, called on Northerners living in all the six states of the South West to remain there and continue with their lawful businesses.

Akeredolu said “with no intention to engage anyone or group, it is incumbent on us, as elected representatives of our people in the South West region of the country, to denounce the divisive and retrogressive statement in the strongest terms possible.

“The South West Governors’ Forum views, with palpable trepidation and outrage, the sustained attempts to fan the ember of discord, seizing every opportunity offered by the current security challenge to undermine the unity and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

“It is appalling, to assert the least, that the tragic incident, which claimed the life of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Pa

Fasoranti, the leader of Afenifere, would be used by certain persons to advance the cause of parochial politics. We intend to get to the root of the sad occurrence as we await the findings of security agencies on the unfortunate incident.

“The governors and the people of the South West are working assiduously, at the current security challenges with a view to finding lasting solutions to curtail the nefarious activities of undesirable elements bent on wrecking our collective peace. We are not unaware of the antics of certain elements, who hope to garner political mileage from the contrived crises in virtually all parts of the country. We are equally convinced that this confusion serves the narrow interests of some persons.

“The country has a rich history; she has had to encounter adversities in the course of her transition to nationhood. She has overcome them all. This distraction will also pass. We look up to the security agencies to take cohesive steps to curtail this major challenge of insecurity which engenders hopelessness. We can only enjoin all citizens, on our part, to be patient and continue to cooperate with them as they combat the festering crises. We on our part have taken great strides with the hope that great success will be achieved.

“We, however, note with discomfiture, the unpatriotic acts of some Nigerians, who will stop at nothing in their bid to undermine the Federal government. We are, through this medium, reiterating the commitment of the governors and the people of the South West to the nationhood project, as we continue to address the challenges confronting our people. We will promote, with renewed vigour, all activities which encourage amity among our people.

“We call on all persons of Fulani extraction, and indeed all Nigerians from other parts of the country, resident in the South West Region, to discountenance the unpatriotic outburst of the Northern Elders Forum and other self-serving organisations as opportunists. All Nigerians, who have legitimate reasons to be in our midst, are welcome in the region. The governments and the people of the South West will protect all persons regardless of their ethnic and/or religious backgrounds.

“Only criminals will find our space not hospitable,” he added.

Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Thursday visited the Ago Alaye and Araromi Obu in Odigbo Local Government, where communal clashes broke out on Tuesday over a land dispute.

The governor, who was in the town to access the level of destruction, was accompanied by the commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie, the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Zakari Logun Abubakar and other security chiefs.

Governor Akeredolu was conducted round the Ago Alaye community where he accessed, first hand, the destruction and burning of houses.

It will be recalled that Akeredolu had on Wednesday ordered a twenty-four hour curfew on Ago-Alaye town as part of the measures to prevent the escalation of the violence.

The governor visited the Palace of the Ajobu of Araromi Obu, HRM, Oba Aderemi Adelola , where he assured the monarch of maximum security of lives and properties of the people of the town.

He said government is ready to take action on Ago Alaye community if the violence persists.

Governor Akeredolu, who said security forces are on ground to maintain peace and order, commended the Ajobu of Araromi Obu for maintaining peace in the community, particularly by appealing to the people against a reprisal.

Akeredolu said: " When we heard about the disturbance at Ago Alaye, we made our decision to make sure that total curfew imposed on Ago Alaye is in place. Luckily for them they have deserted the place

"I have heard that you called your subjects that there should not be any reprisal. You have maintained peace within Araromi community. We thank you for that . We will not allow miscreant to disturb the peace in this community. "

Governor Akeredolu, who later addressed the youths in the town, vowed that the perpetrators of the criminal acts will be brought to book.

He said government will not fold its arms and allow criminals perpetrate crimes by unleashing terror against a whole town.

The Governor urged the youths to cooperate with the security agents on ground and also help them in course of their investigations so as to apprehend everyone involved in the unfortunate incident.

Arakunrin Akeredolu, however, pleaded with the youths not to embark on any reprisal attack, urging them to continue to promote and maintain peace in the town.

The Ajobu, who thanked the Governor for visiting the town, assured him that the people will continue to remain calm and cooperate with the security agents.

Earlier, the Governor visited the rubber plantation, the Rubber Estate Nigeria Limited, to assure the operators of adequate security of the lives and properties of the company and its workers.

Governor Akeredolu, who was received by the Managing Director of the factory, Philips Carty, said the company is important to the state because of its contribution to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.

He said: "This is an unscheduled visit. When I got to Ago Alaye, I decided to come here and see. I learnt since the unfortunate incident, the factory has shut down

"I felt we should come in and tell you that we have put enough security around and there's no reason for you to be afraid. You can go ahead and do your bussiness. This factory is important to us."

Governor Akeredolu later visited the Palace of Abodi of Ikale land, Oba George Babatunde Faduyile, where he pleaded with the traditional rulers in Ikale land to call their people in Ago Alaye to order.

The governor said the state government will urgently set up a commitee to look into the involvement of the two sides of the conflict.

He warned that his administration will not tolerate criminality under any guise, stressing that whoever is found culpable in the Ago Alaye crisis will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

AgricultureFarmers Call For Irrigation Of Cocoa Farms Across Producing States by OndoUpdates(op): 7:00am On Jul 17, 2019
Cocoa farmers have called on the federal government for the establishment of irrigation facilities across cluster cocoa farms in the country due to heat waves.

The farmers argued the move would boost cocoa production.

The newly-appointed Chairman of the Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN), Comrade Adeola Adegoke, who made the call at the inauguration ceremony of a new national executive committee at the Ade Super Hotel in Akure, said the irrigation process was important because of the danger posed by the present climate conditions, which he said was unfavourable to cocoa regeneration and sustainability.

Adegoke said the move would help to lift the country to the number one position in the comity of cocoa producing nations.

The new CFAN president, who took over the mantle of leadership from Alhaji Raimi Adeniji, who died recently, was the secretary of the association until his elevation. Comrade Adegoke assured that CFAN, under his leadership, would collaborate with other cocoa stakeholders, the executive arm of government and other bodies to move the country forward in cocoa production.

He stressed that CFAN would also work towards the improvement, upliftment and fixing of deplorable infrastructure in cocoa villages and towns across the nation.

He promised cocoa farmers that their interest would be well protected, and they would be considered in the area of provision of subsidized inputs.

He commended the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, for the free distribution of 500,000 hybrid cocoa seedlings to farmers in the state.

Also, the immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, urged the federal government to continue to subsidize agricultural products and tools used by the farmers.
