Which rom is good for note 4x

since you don't like rooting, twrp and all those stuff, You just have to stick with the stock ROM. Otherwise, you can check out this rom here as its quite decent, based on android 8.0

I clicked on the phone update. There was no update, so I clicked on download package. It's downloading a file and I don't know what it's downloading o. After the download is finished, what do I do ?

In the setting, You will see the option to install update from file, Then you choose the file you downloaded. Note officially, Xiaomi discontinued updates for redmi note 4x in Android 7.0. Meaning you can update after android 7.0. The one am using are roms people ported from other updated phones to work for redmi note 4x.

Redmi note 4 is mtk while redmi note 4x is Snapdragon.

Ya, it has been updated and the FP is now working. It's very smooth, I get no system force stop error or anything, To spice things up, I installed FDE.AI Magisk module. All good.
