Yea, another option I can suggest now is if you can venture into TRANSPORTATION BUSINESS as it can give you at least 50% of your capital even less than a year attimes if you do it with care as it has its up and down as well (I'm years in the business now and I know what I'm saying).
However about the Real estate, I don't know your location and your initial post(topic) doesn't stated that you want your return within a year, so I make suggestions base on the topic posted.

since you ask questions base on REAL ESTATE alone, then the answer will be provided in regards to it.
Real estate business can be divided into further parts like Loan Servicing, Residential and Commercial Properties etc. 
Examples of residential real estate include undeveloped land, houses, condominiums, and townhouses;
examples of commercial real estate are office buildings, warehouses, and retail store buildings; and examples of industrial real estate include factories, mines, and farms.

... however real estate can give you 50% of your capital as a profit within a year depends on the type of the real estate you choose to do and your location. So let me know your location maybe I will suggest another idea base on your location and on that your 50% profit in a year if the real estate can not work out in your area.... mind you don't rush and choose wisely
