Son of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader and the Aare Ago of Egbaland, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oluwaseyi, was among the 1,552 Law School students that were not called to bar yesterday, Tuesday, November 19, 2012 after they failed their examinations.

Seyi, as he is fondly called, had earlier failed his Bar Part 1 examination but had to repeat the exam. He was admitted at the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School in Victoria Island.

Meanwhile, the former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the daughter of former Ekiti State governor, Segun Oni, Yemisi, were among the 3,896 that were called to the Nigerian Bar by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mariam Aloma Muhktar yesterday. The call bar ceremony was held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

About 5,449 students had sat for the August final examination out of which nine passed with First Class, 195 had Second Class Upper, 900 had Second Class Lower and 2,783 had Pass.

The 1,552 that reportedly failed the examination would therefore re-sit the examination.

A man who had gone for an all-night prayer got the shock of his life when he caught his 'faithful' wife pants down with a neighbour on his bed at their matrimonial home. The incident is said to have happened at around 3am.

“The two lovebirds’ timing was wrong as Maskiri decided to return earlier than expected and he caught them in the act. He then alerted some neighbours who proceeded to report the matter to the police,” said a witness.

A source said the husband, only identified as Maskiri, returned home from prayers earlier than the usual time and this helped him to catch his unfaithful wife, Fungai Sibanda, having sex with their neighbour, identified as Tinashe Mutuwari.

When Maskiri was contacted for comment, he opened up saying he was still in dilemma of what had driven his wife to do such an embarrassing thing.

“I had gone for an all-night prayer and my wife had remained at home. At around 3am, I decided to go home as I was feeling sleepy. When I got home, I got the shock of my life as I found my wife sleeping with Tinashe on our bed. I became weak and could not do or say anything to the two. I quietly walked out and informed some neighbours,” said Maskiri.

He revealed that he suspected it was not the first time Tinashe had spend the night at his home as he regularly went for all-night prayers leaving his wife at home.

To the surprise of many, the wife got a restraining order from a local court against her husband. “Surprisingly, Fungai rushed to seek a peace order against me saying I was troubling her and she won the case,” the husband added.

ACCRA (AFP) – A six-storey shopping mall collapsed in the Ghanaian capital Accra on Wednesday, with at least three people so far confirmed dead and dozens of victims feared trapped, sparking desperate rescues.

Police said around 50 employees were reported to be in the building before the collapse on Wednesday morning. It was not immediately clear if customers were also inside, with one worker saying the mall had yet to open.
President John Dramani Mahama suspended his campaign ahead of December 7 elections and offered prayers for those trapped. Thousands thronged the site, including family members in search of relatives.

“My son, my son, my son! My son is going to die! Get him for me! He is my only son!” one woman could be heard screaming.

Assistant Police Superintendent Freeman Tettey told journalists that three people had so far been confirmed dead and six rescued, as workers rushed to find those buried with the west African heat bearing down.

“According to information that I gathered when I got here, about 50 employees were in the building before it collapsed,” Tettey said.

Family members could be seen at the site attempting to call relatives who may be trapped, while scores of rescue workers at the scene sought to clear debris and get oxygen masks to victims.

A man who saw his brother being put in an ambulance on a stretcher yelled out in agony: “He can’t move! He can’t move!”

The cause of the collapse of the Melcom shopping mall in the centre of the capital was not immediately clear. Workers from a nearby construction site were urgently called over to help dig through the rubble.

“They said, ‘please bring equipment’,” said one of the construction workers, Camille Moukarzel.

Stephen Ansah, a Melcom employee from another branch, said he had spoken with someone buried who had said he needed water.

“They are suffering,” he said. “The heat is too much.”

President Mahama issued a brief statement on his Twitter account about the disaster, saying: “My prayers are with the workers, shoppers and others who are trapped in the rubble of the collapsed Achimota Melcom building.”

Another tweet from his account said he was suspending his campaign ahead of the presidential and parliamentary polls next month because of the disaster.

“President John Mahama suspends his campaign tour of the Northern Region in the wake of the Achimota Melcom disaster,” it said.

Police rushed to the scene and were still seeking to confirm details while soldiers worked to help maintain order.

“They are still working to get to the root of the building,” Assistant Superintendent Juliana Obeng told AFP. “Meanwhile we have sent ambulances to the scene.”

Witness Ama Okyere told AFP: “I was very close to the mall because I was going to buy something, only for me to see the building coming down.

“I had to run for my life. I was so terrified. I believe there are lots of people trapped under this because this is a heavily patronised shopping mall in the area.”

Another witness said he heard a bang followed by the building falling in.

“I was on my way to school and all of a sudden heard a big bang and people shouting, only for me to see that the shopping mall has collapsed,” said John Owusu.

A seven-year-old boy, Augustine Bello, residing in Matari village in Rigna district of Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State has been thrown into darkness for life by a fellow villager who kidnapped him from his grandmother’s house and plucked his two eyes.



Augustine, now receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, begged for his sight to be restored so that he could see what was happening around him. Narrating the victim’s ordeal, his brother, Yakubu Bello, 45, said on October 17 at about 5:00pm, a man, Muhammad, also residing in the same village came to their grandmother’s house and on seeing that Augustine was in the house with their grandmother, said he had come to ask for okro seeds.

He was allowed collect the seeds and he left. Shortly after, Augustine’s grandmother left the house to fetch firewood. By the time she came back, the boy was missing. She raised the alarm and a search party was constituted to look for him but he could not be found that day. Yakubu said their grandmother insisted that the man who came to the house to ask for okro seeds just before she left to fetch firewood should know something about the disappearance of the boy. Neither the boy nor Muhammad could be found that evening.

“It was in the morning of the following day that Augustine was found in the forest with his face and body covered in blood. When we saw him, we thought he was dead and had gone to report the matter to the village head. From there, we went to the police station.” With police escort, Yakubu said they went to pick what they presumed would be the boy’s corpse only to discover that he was still breathing.

“When he gained consciousness, we asked what happened to him and he narrated how Muhammad seized him when his grandmother was out and carried him into the forest. He said the man made a hole in his stomach before he plucked his two eyes. After that he lost consciousness and did not know what was happening to him until he was found in the bush. Yakubu, who said Augustine was the 13th and last child of their parents, said after the police had taken their statements, they took the boy to the general hospital in Toro.

It was from there he was transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital where he is now receiving treatment. When Muhammad was arrested, he confessed committing the crime but said he was hired by one Idris to do the job. When Idris was arrested, he denied sending him but said before Muhammad went to kidnap the boy he hinted him about the evil plan and asked him to come along but he refused.

When asked why he did not inform the police about it, he said he did not see it as necessary at that time. Idris was last Tuesday sentenced to six months imprisonment by a magistrate court in Bauchi with the option of paying N5, 000 fine for concealing information. He was also asked to pay N20, 000 as part payment for the boy’s treatment. However, Muhammad is still being held in prison custody while the case is pending in court.

of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on a 17 criminal count charge of conspiracy, forgery and obtaining One billion, Fifty One million, Thirty thousand, Four hundred and Thirty four Naira, Sixty-three kobo (N1, 051,030,434.63) by false pretence.

The accused persons allegedly defrauded the Federal Government of Nigeria by submitting forged documents and obtaining the sum from the Petroleum Support Fund as subsidy for the importation of 10,000 metric tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol).

Count One of the 17 Count charge reads, “That you, Alhaji Saminu Rabiu, Jubril Rowaye, ALMINNUR RESOURCES LTD and BRILA ENERGY LTD sometime in May, 2011 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja with intent to defraud, did conspire to do an illegal act to wit; to obtain the sum of N1,051,030,434.63 (One billion, Fifty One Million, Thirty thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty Four Naira, Sixty-three kobo) from the Federal Government of Nigeria by false pretence that the said sum represented subsidy payment accruing to ALMINNUR RESOURCES LTD for the purported importation of 10,000 MT of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) which you claimed to have purchased from Napa Petroleum Trade Inc and imported into Nigeria through the Mother Vessel, Mt Kriti Akti, which representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 8(a) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act.”http://speedyonlinemedia.com/efcc-docks-4-o…-subsidy-fraud/.html

When the charges where read to the accused, they all pleaded not guilty. Barristers R.O. Unnah ( Counsel for 1st and 3rd accused) and Ajibola Oluyede (Counsel for 2nd and 4th accused) prayed the court to grant the accused persons bail.

Prosecution counsel, Sylvanus Tahir did not oppose the application but urged the court to impose stringent conditions which will ensure that the accused persons are available for trial.

Justice Banjoko granted bail to each of the accused in the sum of N10million and two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties must be a Director in the Civil Service. Both sureties, who must be resident in Abuja , are to swear to affidavit of means and produce evidence of tax payment in the past three years.In addition, the accused persons must deposit their international passport and three passport photographs each with the court.

She adjourned the case till November 29 and 30, 2012 for commencement of trial, and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody until they perfect their bail terms.

Apple lost its patent case against Samsung in London's Court of Appeal this morning after a judge ruled that the Galaxy tablet does not copy the iPad's design.
The court upheld a previous decision that said Samsung's Galaxy tablet did not infringe upon Apple's patents. It said there were similarities between the two devices but that Samsung had not infringed Apple's design, in part because its products were "not as cool".

The US company was instructed to run newspaper and online adverts admitting that the Korean company did not copy the iPad. The judge said these notices must be in a font size no smaller than Arial 14.

Apple had argued that, in finding Samsung had not infringed its design, the trial judge had place too much emphasis on differences between the design of the back of Galaxy Tab range and the back of the iPad.

Whereas the back of the iPad is almost featureless, Galaxy Tabs have a separate, different coloured section along one edge that contains the camera and flash. The trial judge found these “unusual details” would mean people would not confuse the designs and that Apple’s minimalist design was “cooler”.

Apple could now take its appeal to the Supreme Court.
The two technology giants are currently battling each other in a series of patent lawsuits around the world, including a case revolving around mobile phones in the US. The British case is part of a complex global battle that pits Apple against Samsung in intellectual property courts in Europe, the US, South Korea and Australia.

Apple believes its main rival "slavishly" ripped off designs and technologies from both the iPad and iPhone in its Android smartphones and tablets and scored the biggest victory so far with a £664m damages award in California.

Apple is expected to launch a new iPad mini later this month, including a 7.85in screen. The company has sent out media invitations to an event on October 23 which is widely thought to be the product's launch .

A new winner has emerged in the popular reality TV show, MTN Project Fame West Africa, Ayo. He has become the fifth winner the show has produced. Ayo beat six other contestants to emerge the season five champion.

Marvelous emerged the 1st runner-up, Adetoun is the 2nd runner-up while Ella is the 3rd runner-up.

The remaining seven contestants performed with some past contestants of the show in a duet on Saturday. The show has produced known stars like Iyanya and Chidinma who have 'Kukere' and 'Kidike' hit singles respectively.

A US man has been awarded $7.2m (£4.4m) in damages after claiming he developed "popcorn lung" from inhaling the artificial butter in microwave popcorn.

A Colorado jury agreed with Wayne Watson that a popcorn manufacturer should have had warning labels that the bag's fumes were dangerous to inhale.

Defence lawyers argued that Mr Watson's problems stemmed from years of working with carpet-cleaning chemicals.

He developed respiratory problems in 2007, after regularly eating popcorn.

"Popcorn lung" is a form of irreversible obstructive lung disease that scars the lung and makes it difficult for air to flow out.

The verdict is the latest in a series of successful cases, including by popcorn plant workers who became ill. The cases link diacetyl, an ingredient in the flavouring, to health problems.

Jurors found Gilster-Mary Lee Corp, a private-labelling manufacturer of popcorn, liable for 80% of the damages. Supermarket company Kroger Co was held liable for the other 20%.

Mr Watson had previously settled with flavourings company FONA International Inc.

"[The popcorn manufacturer] did absolutely no testing whatsoever to think the consumer might be at risk," Mr Watson told CBS News.

Mr Watson's case was helped by the testimony of Dr Cecile Rose, the doctor who diagnosed him with the condition.

She had been a consultant to the flavourings industry and had seen the same disease Mr Watson had developed among workers exposed to the chemical, Reuters reports. Source BBC
