It is a Good Friday because "a good thing happened to humanity on this day" it commemorates the salvific death of Jesus Christ on the cross, which is believed to be the ultimate sacrifice for humanity's sins. Though a day of suffering, it is considered beneficial ("good") because it paved the way for salvation and the resurrection on Easter. |
