@gleyo

I completely disagree with everything you just said. It is completely untrue that you need at least 200,000 pounds to start a business in the UK. There are so many businesses that are started with virtually no capital. It all depends on the kind of business you want to start. And also there are still so many opportunities in the UK because the environment changes very quickly and solutions are always required to problems. Those solutions can then be sold and money made. So I don't believe that one.

After all there are Nigerians that are millionaires in Britain. And no they didn't steal it. One guy I know has a large property empire and is a professional landlord; another has a software company which turns over millions of pounds a year and they all started with very little money.
So it can definitely be done.

you can get the visas no problem

go for it my brothers and sisters! This would be a fantastic experience. Start a blog to chronicle the journey and maybe do a press release and send it off to the media houses. You'll definitely get coverage. People should stop being so fearful, It's an adventure. How many people get to do this in their lifetime. Make sure you have your GPS devices, mobiles, get vaccinated, proper visas, fuel,

You'll be fine!!!

If I was in London I would definitely be up for it!! Sounds like fun!!

It's true Nigerians are not very adventurous, una too dey fear! After all oyibo people cycle round the world just with backpack and bicycle and sometimes even make money by sponsorship or getting a film company to make a documentary out of it. Hey that's an idea!!

Celebrities › Re: Whitney Houston Divorces Bobby Brown by onyek: 5:55pm On Sep 15, 2006
I knew from the day she married him that it would end in tears.

Bobby Brown is a loser and I don't know what Whitney saw in him. If she has turned into a drug addict then he is to blame. It's ridiculous

I'm so happy for her. I hope she can get back to where she used to be. Her voice is magnificent.

All of you should stop having a go at Seun. He is correct. You don't have to live in a country in order to know a lot about it. I lived in the UK and it is highly regulated and is not friendly to businesspeople.

All of these business ideas talked about (African foodstores, cleaning jobs, security jobs, plaiting hair etc) are the typical Nigerian businesses that people go into. There is an over representation of Nigerians in these areas.

I suggest you make a list of things you are interested in? There are so many opportunities at the moment. Self employed plumbers in the UK are making minimun 50000 pounds with some making as much as 1million pounds so be original.

Look at affiliate marketing. It's just taking off in the UK. You can also dropship or sell on ebay. This is a great time to be self employed. There is a UK program called Dragon's Den every week that showcases entrepreneurs and their business ideas. Keep abreast of trends in the marketplace. The UK is keen on mobile services, be very observant. You don't have to concentrate on the Nigerian community, widen your market otherwise you will get the same results as every one else.

I'm in the States and I can suggest lots of businesses you can do in the UK and I don't live there. I keep abreast daily of everything so if you that you'll see opportunities everywhere

start wth HTML and learn CSS as well. Go to w3schools.com. Very useful tutorials. Once you design the website( you can look at various websites to get an idea of the site) upload it to the internet and voila!

Hi

Does anyone know how to design a wap site? I understand what programming language to use but don't have a cellphone with GPRS/Wap access. I want to use an emulator browser to show the wap site while I develop it. Any suggestions about the sort of emulator/broswer I can use?

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Any Hope For Disabled Nigerian Graduates? by onyek: 5:32pm On Aug 22, 2006
I read about a disabled gentleman who has a Msc degree and runs his own internet radio station. It's very successful and lots of people tune in to listen to him. Find a niche(of which there are lots in Nigeria) and set up your own radio station at live365.com

I really believe that life is what you make of it. Whether you can or can't depends on you.

I've just watched a film called "The Secret". It can be purchased at thesecret.tv or watched online. It talks about the fact that you get what you focus on. If you focus on darkness and despair, then you get darkness and despair. If you focus on success and good luck then you get success and good luck.

The world is run according to Pareto's law; 20% of people own/run 80% of the world's resources ( actually some other stats have put the ratio closer to 4:96) You have to ask why is it just a small number of people own such a large amount of the earth's resources/wealth, How can that be? In some ways it is natural selection. If you look at the background of a lot of people that have achieved this success, many of them come from quite poor backgrounds and they've overcome great adversity to reach a very high level of success. So it's not a factor of birth. There is another argument about nature vs nurture and how our environment can assist us to be successful. Again that depends on the sort of information you allow into your mind. In eveything we have a choice i.e. we have a choice to visit nairaland.com and interact with people on the board or not; we have a choice to go to work or not; we have a choice to buy a bottle of coke or not; I strongly believe it's all about decisions and the consequences of those decisions.
