US Impeachment Trial: Trump Acquitted As expected, the former US president Trump has been discharged and acquitted of any wrong doing in the impeachment trial that was brought to the senate by the Congress after he was impeached by the House. Trump’s defence lawyers really did a great job by providing substantial evidence and defending the former president as the played series of video to buttress their points during presentation and answering questions. The final vote was 57- 43 as 7 Republican senators joined the 50 Democrats to vote against Trump, but were unable to meet up with the 2/3 majority to convict Trump of criminal trial to incite his supporters against the state as Trump has been accused of inciting his supporters against the Congress. With this decision of the Senate, Trump has survived a second impeachment trial and now free from criminal protection and is free to contest election in future for the position of the President. https://dambela.com/2021/02/14/us-impeachment-trial-trump-acquitted/

Bitcoin : Mixed Reactions Trail Ban On Cryptocurrencies In Nigeria Following the outright ban of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in Nigeria by the recent publication and directive given by the federal government of Nigeria through the apex bank Central Bank of Nigeria many Nigerians have taken to their social media platforms and other medium of communication to air their views and opinions on this very sensitive issue as it relates to forex exchange, youths of Nigeria using bitcoin to trade vis a vis dollar, the emerging economy with digital currencies and technologies etc. Many have attaceked the government decision to ban Bitcoin as a way of suppressing the youths due to the role digital currencies played during the era of #Endsars and even the Sunday Igboho case which people believed is being funded with Bitcoin to continue his fight against the Fulani herdsmen. On the other side, some see it as a welcome development as many lazy Nigerian youths are now using it to propagate their fraudulent deals popularly known as yahoo yahoo. They perpetuate their shady transactions under the guise of doing genuine Bitcoin trade transactions. The Central Bank of Nigeria has last week ordered banks to close all accounts of their customers perceived to be dealing with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the country. But many see this latest action by the federal government as closing up the economy. What Nigeria needs now, perhaps more than ever, are jobs and an opening up of our economy, especially after today’s report by the National Bureau of Statistics indicated that foreign capital inflow into Nigeria is at a four year low, having plummeted from $23.9 billion in 2019, to just $9.68 billion in 2020. Already, the nation suffered severe economic losses from the border closure, and the effects of the #COVID19 pandemic. This is definitely the wrong time to introduce policies that will restrict the inflow of capital into Nigeria, and I urge that the policy to prohibit the dealing and transaction of cryptocurrencies be revisited. https://dambela.com/2021/02/07/bitcoinmixed-reactions-trail-ban-on-cryptocurrencies-in-nigeria/

The publisher of Ovation Magazine and Nigerian politician Cbief Dele Momodu blows hot in his quest to finding an answer to his question which is now at the centre of our political discourse now in Nigeria. He wondered why a big country like Nigeria with brilliant people should be reduced to cow discussion. Below are excerpt of his video talk……. Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu has weighed in on the herdsmen and farmers crises, asking why cows have become so important that they now form a topic for national discourse. He lamented how marauding herdsmen are returning Nigeria to the stone age and antiquity with their nefarious activities. “We are discussing cows everyday. A cow business is supposed to be a personal and private business. If you want to sell your cows, you want to breed your cows, set it up as a business. Your business stops where mine begins. You cannot bring your cows on my farmland and say I have nor right to complain. If you must do any business, do it according to the dictates of running a business. We are not the largest cow producing or breeding country in the world. We are not even among the top 20.” Momodu said in the eight minutes video He continued: “How come we want to continue to practice archaism? We want to remain in the stone age. We want to remain in antiquity. People carrying cows up and down inside the forest, and then you endanger the lives of people. A man who studied and went abroad, got his Ph.D then came back, one illiterate will just kidnap him, take his money and kill him inside the bush. Is that how to run a country? When you say that they will say you don’t like government. No! I have brilliant Fulani friends. Why do we want to reduce an entire race to cow? It’s wrong. It’s even unfair on the hardworking Fulanis. It’s unfair on the brilliant Fulanis who went to school. ALSO READ: Edo Insecurity: CSO writes Buhari to save our soul letter “It’s sad that we have reduced the nation to a nation of cows. What’s so special about beef? The Yorubas have a saying that ‘we cannot start calling the cow uncle because we ant to eat beef. And then we are told that these cattle rearers are not even Nigerians but they have freedom to come into Nigeria while we are shutting borders against people in Seme and all those places. We are shutting our borders against those who want to do even their legitimate business. We are shutting borders and complicating life for our children who are going to school in Cotonou, Lome and Accra. We make life difficult but cattle rearers can stroll in and out anywhere and we say they have every right.” He advised affected governors to demand and enforce a ban on cattle wanderers in their forest. https://dambela.com/2021/02/01/herdsmen-killings-why-are-we-reducing-a-nation-to-cow-dele-momodu/

The Republic of China has warned and threatened Taiwan of war if it dares call for her independence yesterday. Beijing has termed it calling for independence means ‘war’ as it would face severe confrontation. But the United States of America has condemned China’s statement and position calling it and unfortunate statement and confrontation is not needed at a time like this when the world is facing so much challenges and the polity being overheated by the two countries. Taiwan had recently called and demand for her independence to be a sovereign state from China but it seems China is not taking any of that as it is prepared to go confrontational with Taiwan if it dares plan to be a sovereign state. https://dambela.com/2021/01/30/china-warns-taiwan-of-war-over-independence/

Naira Bounces Back At Parallel Market to close @#470/$1 The naira seems to be regaining its strength gradually as the year slowly winds up after a long streak of of losing its value to the dollar in the black market otherwise known as the parallel market. Reports have it that as at last week Friday, dollar was sold @#477/$1 but beginning this week the naira recovered slowly as it dropped to #473 and now #470 per dollar. Many analysts figured out that it could be as a result of the new remittance policy put in place by the Central Bank of Nigeria which has opened another window of opportunities for those willing to receive their remittance in dollar currency which could still further lead to a drop in the value of dollar against the naira coupled with the new order of border reopening. https://dambela.com/2020/12/23/naira-bounces-back-at-parallel-market-to-close-470-1/ Meanwhile, the CBN is still struggling to clear the backlog of foreign exchange demand, especially by foreign investors wishing to repatriate their funds, even as it has been able to sell over $1billion dollar to BDC since its resumption of sales on Monday 7th of September 2020.
