President Muhammadu Buhari has
congratulated music legend, King Sunny Ade,
on his 70th birthday, which is on Sept. 22.
Information on the felicitation is contained
in a statement issued by Mr Femi Adesina,
the president’s Special Adviser on Media and
Publicity in Abuja on Wednesday.
Adesina stated that “President Buhari joins
friends, family and fans of the multi-talented
instrumentalist, songwriter and dancer in
celebrating his remarkable life.”
The President noted with delight that Sunny
Ade had been graced with numerous
awards for outstanding performances,
including nominations for the Grammy.
Buhari added that the Septuagenarian had
over the years brought pride to his country
by mastering his art against all odds, taking
the African musical genre to the global
stage.
He, therefore, commended him for not only
bringing joy to many hearts and homes
through his music, but for serving as an
inspiration and a mentor to upcoming
artistes.
The President saluted “King Sunny Ade’s love
for humanity, especially the less privileged,
by setting up a foundation that caters for
the needs of others.’’
He prayed that almighty God would grant
“the versatile entertainer longer life, good
health and more strength.”
Born on Sept. 22, 1946 in Osogbo, Sunday
Adeniyi, the King of Juju and popularly called
the minister of enjoyment, had been actively
in music since 1960s.
His father was a Church organist, while his
mother was a trader. Adé left grammar
school in Ondo under the pretence of going
to University of Lagos but there in Lagos, his
mercurial musical career started.
Sunny Adé’s musical sound evolved from the
early days. His career begun with Moses
Olaiya’s Federal Rhythm Dandies, a highlife
band, but he left to form a new band, The
Green Spots in 1967.
Over the years, Sunny Adé’s band changed
its name several times, first to African Beats
and then to Golden Mercury, for various
reasons ranging from changes in his music
to business concerns.
In the 1970s and 1980s Adé embarked on a
tour of America and Europe. His stage act
was characterised by dexterous dancing
steps and mastery of the guitar, which he
played beautifully well to the admiration of
the Americans and Europeans.
His music albums earned him many awards,
including his first Grammy Award
nomination in the folk/ethnic music
category.

Polygamy is a common practice in Africa and
among Muslim believing people. It is the
practice of a man having two or more wives.
It has been practiced almost as long as man
has been on earth. Since polygamy has been
here a long time, many people think it is
alright. Is that true? No! Sin has been with
man longer than polygamy. Is sin alright?
No! Just because something has been here a
long time does not make it right. For a thing
to be right it has to be accepted by God.
What is God’s attitude toward polygamy?
God is the one who brought marriage into
the world. He made the first man, Adam
( Genesis 1:26). He saw that it was not good
for Adam to be alone. He then made a “wife”
for Adam. Notice God did not make “wives”
for Adam. If He had wanted Adam to have
more than one wife, He would have made
him more than one. One was enough. God
knows best.
Man in his different cultures has brought
many ideas about marriage into the world.
Some of man’s ideas agree with God’s plan.
Some of man’s ideas do not agree with
God’s plan. This is true with polygamy.
Polygamy is a “man-made” idea. It is not in
agreement with God’s plan for marriage.
Anything that does not agree with what God
has done or said is sin. God’s plan is one
man and woman (wife) for life (Genesis 2).
There are many examples of polygamy in the
Bible. The first person to be a polygamist
was Lamech (Genesis 4:19-24). He lived six
generations after Adam. He was a murderer.
Nothing good is said about him.
Abraham was also a polygamist (Genesis
16:1-5). His wife, Sarai, was unable to have
children. She gave her slave, Hagar, to be
Abraham’s wife. Hagar had children for
Abraham. Sarah then became jealous of
Hagar. This marriage was then full of
troubles.
Another polygamist was Esau. He was the
firstborn of Isaac and Rebekah. Esau
married two Hittite women ( Genesis
26:33-34). They caused much grief to Isaac
and Rebekah. Polygamist marriages affect
more than just the man and his wives.
Gideon was a great and brave leader. He had
70 sons from many wives ( Judges 8:30-31).
What kind of a father could he be to 70
sons? Not the kind that God wants us to be.
King Solomon had 700 wives, princesses,
and 300 concubines. His wives turned his
heart away from God ( 1 Kings 11:3). His
downfall as a king was a result of his
practice of polygamy.
Nowhere in the Bible can we find polygamy
doing any good. Everything that is said
about it shows it causes troubles. That has
not changed. Today polygamy still causes
many marriage problems for those who
practice it.
Let us see some Bible principles that teach
against the practice of polygamy. Genesis
2:23-24 says that a man shall "leave his
father and his mother, and shall cleave unto
his wife." God did not say that man was to
be joined to his “wives.” He said that man
was to be joined to his "wife." That is one
and only one!
Paul compares the husband and wife to
Christ and the church: "For the husband is
the head of the wife, as Christ also is the
head of the church..." ( Ephesians 5:23). In
Ephesians 1:22-23 we are told that the
church is the body of Christ. There is only
one body ( Ephesians 4:4) so there is only
one church. A man can have as many wives
as Christ has churches. Christ has only one
church so a man can have only one wife.
Nowhere does the Bible speak of a man
(one) being over wives (many) and that
being right with God.
Matthew 19:3-9 speaks about divorce. Jesus
Christ shows that God never wanted man
(or woman) to divorce. The same is true
with polygamy. God does not want a man to
have more than one wife. Jesus said that a
man shall "leave his father and mother, and
shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall
become one flesh." Jesus spoke of one man
and one woman marrying. He said that
marriage is made up of one man and one
woman. The two make one flesh. When a
man has more than one wife he is sinning.
God hates sin.
In 1 Timothy 3:2 we are told that an elder
must be the husband of one wife. Why not
two or more? If it is a good practice, then
why should not a church leader be a
polygamist? The reason is that God does not
want that kind of a marriage. Those who
practice polygamy are sinning in God’s eyes.
They cannot be church leaders nor church
members.
Let us notice some problems with polygamy
in the Bible. First, it causes strife and
jealousy. We see it in the lives of those who
practice it today. Joseph was sold into
Egyptian slavery by his brothers because of
jealousy from a polygamist marriage.
Second, no man can be a proper husband by
being a polygamist. Third, he can’t be a
proper father as God intended. If a man has
many children how can he be a father who
brings them up "chastening and admonition
of the Lord" ( Ephesians 6:4)? Fourth,
polygamy causes a man to go away from
God rather than closer to God. We should do
nothing that causes us to go away from
God.
What must a polygamist do if he wants to
become a Christian? First, he must realize
that he is a lost sinner. He then must believe
in Jesus Christ as the Son of God (Mark
16:16). Following his belief in Christ, he must
repent (Acts 2:38). That means he must get
rid of all sin in his life. In his marriage, he
must get rid of all his “wives” but the first
one. After repenting, he must confess his
faith in Christ as the Son of God (Romans
10:10). He is now ready for baptism. This
baptism is a burial in water (Romans 6:3-4).
It is for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38).
This is what everyone has to do to become a
Christian. Have you done these things? If
not, you are not a Christian. If we can help
you to become a Christian, please write and
let us know. |
1
Begin introducing "academic" activities
to your children as early as 2 years old.
Some suggestions include reading books,
drawing/painting, learning simple
arithmetic, engaging in basic grammar
exercises, learning a foreign language,
picking up an instrument, and learning
new vocabulary words through drawing
pictures.
Feel free to pick up toys, games, art
supplies, workbooks, flash cards, and
other commercial learning materials
for your children. You can also create
your own or make them with your
children.
Make sure this is quality time that you
are spending with your children, so sit
down with them and watch as they
complete the activity. Don't hand them
a book and walk away. Even if they are
capable of reading on their own, it's
more fun for them if they have your
company, so let them read aloud to
you.
Children love spending time with and
getting the attention of their parents. If
you can let "academic time" be a
regular and fun part of their routine,
your children will associate learning
and teaching others with satisfying
feelings.
2
When your children begin receiving
homework from school -- most likely
during Kindergarten -- instruct them to
set aside time right arriving home from
school to complete their work. Tell them
that the hour right after school must be
set aside for homework time, but they are
free to play earlier if they finish their work
earlier.
Instead of making your kids work right
after school, you can also designate a
set amount of free time and then
schedule the hour of work time. It's
usually easier to get the kids inside to
do homework before they've begun to
romp around outside, however.
Scheduling a routine "work period" for
each day of the week at an early age is
important because their homework is
relatively easy and enjoyable. As young
children are malleable, they will gladly
follow your guidance and complete
their homework right after school. If
you continue to enforce this as they
age, they will begin to want to set
aside this time on their own in the
future.
On weekends, you should also set
aside an hour (e.g., 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.) for
your kids to complete homework
assigned by the school or academic
work prepared by you. This would be a
great time to continue activities
mentioned in step 1.
3
When your children begin developing
independence, pull back a little from
your involvement in work time. Late
elementary school or early middle school
(5th - 7th grade) is a good time to do this,
depending on how quickly your children
mature.
Start by reminding them to start their
homework right after school, but don't
micromanage the process of how they
choose to complete it. You don't
necessarily need to know what all their
homework is before they do it.
However, you may want to continue
checking their assignment sheets and
knowing the due dates to ensure that
your children are completing the work.
In middle school, your children will
begin to have homework from multiple
classes with various due dates.
Discourage them from starting an
assignment the night before it's due.
Instead, make sure that they do a little
bit of work every day. This way, they
will be forced to start their
assignments early.
4
When your children are in 8th grade or
high school, reduce your reminders of
work time, and see how your children
respond. Do they continue to complete
their homework after school without your
prompting? If so, congratulations: you
have successfully instilled effective study
habits! If not, punish them for their
irresponsibility and continue to monitor
their work time as necessary.
Tell your children that if they show self-
initiative in completing their work and
therefore can earn your trust to
manage their work independently, you
will reward them by backing off.
5
As your children are exposed to more
and more difficult material, teach them
effective study strategies for dealing
with the new workload. Suggestions
include:
Writing down every task in a to-do list
or agenda booklet with the due date
For long-term projects, setting due
dates for certain stages of the projects
before the actual final due date
Making flash cards for memorizing
vocabulary words, key figures, dates,
foreign language concepts, etc.
Starting to study for tests at least three
days before the actual day of the test
to maximize retention of the material
When studying for midterms or final
exams, dividing up the studying into
units and deciding when you want to
study each unit beforehand
Finding classmates to create study
groups
Taking meticulous notes in class and
reviewing them after school to
reinforce the material early on (so that
when the night before the test arrives,
absorbing everything will be much
easier)
6
Even when your children are in high
school and should be managing their
own work, ask about upcoming projects/
tests and inquire about their plan for
completing them. Even if you don't ask
your children to divulge the details of their
planning, your question will remind them
to start ahead of time, create a plan, and
finish early. You should continue to show
that you care about their academic
success and that you will reward them for
their good study habits. |
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said he will produce 100 millionaires in the state in four years, if elected as governor. Obaseki, who spoke on Monday during an interactive session with a group, Grassroots Youth Initiative, in the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, explained that with the presence of natural resources, the residents had no reason to be poor. He said, “God has blessed us in Edo. No state is like Edo. We do not have any reason to be poor; the only reason why we are poor is because of bad leadership. With good leadership, the sky is our limit. “So, the first thing I am going to emphasise in employment is to register the unemployed because we have employed a lot of people in the last eight years.” He disclosed that the state government would encourage the unemployed youth in agriculture through the inauguration of an agricultural scheme known as the anchor programme. “We are inaugurating our programme on agriculture called the anchor programme. Edo has been selected for oil palm, rubber, cassava, maize, livestock, poultry and fishery. Government is going to support all you want to do.” He, however, noted that the process of wealth creation required the cooperation of all residents, especially as they go to the poll next Wednesday. “Alone, I cannot do it; I need all of you to support the project to make it work, so that by the time we come here, almost everybody will be gainfully and skilfully employed. “We have done a research in government. I do not want to be a governor where people fight to be senior special assistants before they can buy cars. “I want to be a governor that will produce 100 millionaires after four years. That is my goal, so that at the end my tenure, the people will truly lead because they will be empowered.” Obaseki, who also received the support of the group led by its President, Mr. Osarobo Idahosa, added,”If you have your PVC, on September 28, you all should come out and vote for the APC.” |

sometimes She Will Vomit throughout the
Night.
She will Wake up Weak and Exhausted.
She will force herself to Cook but after
Cooking.
She won't feel like eating anymore.

All she needed was You to be by Her side.
To Make Her Smile.
To Rub Her Belly and Listen to Her when she
talks about how She is Feeling.
To take her out.
To to walk with her and keep her bed warm.

After going through the pains of Post-

because I happen to know that a few days
earlier, the state governor irked by the
failure of the federal government owned
NTA Benin to function as a ruling party
organ threatened to sanitize the place.
He consequently made the necessary moves
and the Zonal Director, the Head of News
and all her immediate assistants in the news
department were quickly transferred far
away from Benin to other NTA stations. They
have since been replaced.
The offence of the staff was that they
adopted professional coverage of events as
directed by their organization. For someone
who in the past was sacked five times but
luckily got reinstated, I didn’t bother to
identify who implemented the governor’s
wish.
I only note that those who accused the
previous government of media censorship
are probably more intolerant making it
obvious that NTA’s problem as I have said
severally is government control. This leaves
our democracy in chains. |

Former Governor of Gombe State, Senator
Danjuma Goje has said it was better to have
a bad All Progressives Congress (APC)
government in the state than to allow the
misrule of the current Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).
He said the crisis in the state chapter of the
party has robbed it of a number of benefits
from the federal government.
Reacting to the inauguration of a Caretaker
Committee for the state chapter of the party
by the national leadership, Goje who is the
Chairman, Senate Committee on
Appropriation said it was important for the
party to remain united and work as one
family.
“The leadership of the party has decided to
do a good job by bringing people from our
neighboring state, and I want to ask the
leadership in your presence to be neutral, to
be objective, to be committed in trying to
unite this party, because I am sure whether
you belong to any other group, it is better
that we have a bad APC Governor than not
to have any governor at all.
“No matter how bad that governor is, if it is
APC (member) it is better, because since it is
PDP now… none of our members, no APC
man has been giving appointment even as a
counselor. So you see, it is very important
that we unite, we unite and put our
differences behind us and move forward to
ensure that we form the next government in
Gombe State,” Goje said.m
While commending the National Leadership
for the prompt intervention, Goje assured
the Caretaker Officers that members of the
APC in Gombe State, regardless of their
political differences will give maximum
support and loyalty to the newly
inaugurated leadership in the state.
He said: “We members of the APC in Gombe
State are very grateful and loyal to the
National leadership of our party. We want to
thank you very much for your intervention
to save the party and make it relevant in
Gombe State and Nigeria.
“I want to, on behalf of all of us in APC in
Gombe State regardless of the past events,
assure you that we will give maximum
support to the newly inaugurated
leadership in the state. I to call on all other
members of the APC in Gombe State to come
and join us and unite to support leadership
to make APC strong in Gombe State.” |

If you are a seeker of truth when you step
onto a place of error and lies, you will
know because something inside of you
will point out that something is wrong so
don't fall for the gimmicks of the devil |
There was a boy called chuka.
He was very intelligent in the class, he has
won
many awards, gifts and also a scholarship.
He answers any question in the class.
The school cannot exist one day without
mentioning the name of chuka.
His own intelligence is versatile.
He is good in all the subject, if chuka
mistakenly
graduates from secondary school and
university
also, every company will like to have him as
a
staff, his brain was like that of a computer.
But something happened, one day chuka
wanted
to jump over a fence, when he finally
Jumped the
fence, he landed on a dangerous ground,
and he
died instantly.
What a sad story to everyone that chuka has
died. He died with all his intelligence,
smartness,
and all his knowledge.
This is what I called unfulfilled destiny.
A destiny that has been discovered but the
enemy succeeded and made it unfulfilled.
Some of you reading this has a great destiny
in
life but the enemy has been standing
against it.
Don't think that the present level you are
now in
this life, is the level where you suppose to
be.
Child of God, I pray for you today that you
must
fulfill your destiny, you will never die without
fulfilling your destiny in jesus name!
Let every destiny destroyer standing on your
way
be destroyed by fire in the name of jesus
christ.
Amen |

What is protection?
All children have the right to protection.
Every child has the right to survive, to be
safe, to belong, to be heard, to receive
adequate care and to grow up in a
protective environment.
A family is the first line of protection for
children. Parents or other caregivers have
the primary responsibility for building a
protective and loving home. Schools and
communities are responsible for building a
safe and child-friendly environment outside
the child’s home.
Unfortunately, millions of children are not
fully protected. Many children deal with
violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation,
exclusion and/or discrimination every day.
These kinds of violations limit their chances
of surviving, thriving and pursuing their
dreams.
Over 160 million children work instead of
enjoying their childhood It is estimated that
more than 160 million children aged 5–14
are engaged in child labour. Millions of
children, mostly girls, work as domestic
labourers in private homes and more than a
million children are trafficked every year.
What is protection?
Girls and boys should be encouraged and
supported to speak up for children’s rights.
Young people should take an active role in
their own protection against abuse,
violence, exploitation and discrimination.
1. Every child should have the
opportunity to grow up in a family. If
a family is unable to care for the child,
steps should be taken by community
authorities to address the reasons and
make every effort to keep the family
together.
2. Every child has a right to a name.
Every child has a right to a
nationality. Registering a child’s birth
helps to ensure a child’s right to
education, health care as well as legal
and social services. Globally, the births
of nearly 230 million children under age
five have never been recorded. Birth
registration is a vital step towards
protection from abuse and exploitation.
3. Girls and boys must be protected from
all forms of violence and abuse.
Violence includes physical, sexual and
emotional abuse, neglect and harmful
practices such as child marriage and
genital mutilation/cutting of girls.
Families, communities and authorities
must take responsibility for this
protection.
4. Children must be protected from any
work that is hazardous. Work should
not prevent them from attending
school. Children should never be
involved in the worst forms of child
labour, such as slavery, forced labour,
drug production or trafficking.
5. Girls and boys can risk sexual abuse
and exploitation in their home, school,
workplace or community. Measures
must be taken to prevent sexual abuse
and exploitation. Sexually abused and
exploited children need immediate help
to stop such abuse.
6. Children become vulnerable to
trafficking if child protection is weak
or missing. The government, civil
society and families are responsible to
prevent or stop trafficking, they are also
responsible to help children who have
been victimized reintegrate into their
families and communities, if it is in their
best interest.
7. Justice for children should be based
on child rights. Jailing or
institutionalizing children must always
be a last resort. Child-centred
procedures should be set up for
children who are victims or witnesses
of crime.
8. Income support and social welfare
services can help keep families
together and children in school and
ensure access to health care.
9. All children have a right to age-
appropriate information , to be heard
and to participate in making decisions
that concern them. Fulfilment of this
right enables children to take an active
role in their own protection against
abuse, violence and exploitation, and to
become active citizens. |
When you are trying to get healthy and lose
weight, there are certain foods you should
avoid. Most of these food are obvious
because they contain ingredients known to
cause weight gain. There are some foods
not as obvious and can be just as bad for
you. These foods are a problem because
most people do not know how to avoid
them and therefore consume them more
often than they should. Here are five such
foods you should never eat again.
White bread
White bread is a local staple but the truth is,
it doesn’t have any nutritional value. It
contains a lot of sugar and isn’t as filling as
desired.
Substitute your white bread for whole grain
or whole wheat bread when possible. Also
substitute bread on your sandwiches with
lettuce leaves or whole grain tortillas.
Fried Foods
Many people only associate fried food with
fast food restaurants and do not realize they
also consume them at home. Avoid frying
any meal, consider baking or broiling
instead. Fried foods are not nutritious and
can cause blood pressure and cholesterol
levels to rise. They can also cause you to
gain weight needlessly.
Cream-based salad dressings
Salads can be very nutritious but can
become unhealthy when covered in cream-
based dressings that contain a lot of fat and
calories. There can be more calories in your
salad dressing than in the rest of your entire
salad.
Try oil-based salad dressings instead. They
taste lighter, and have less calories.
White rice
Rice is a common staple but the truth is,
white rice can cause your body to store fat
when it doesn’t need to. It also has no
nutritional value. Local rice (Abakaliki) and
brown rice is the best option because it is
full of fibre, vitamins and nutrients. It will
also keep you satisfied longer so you are
less likely to overeat.
High fructose corn syrup
High fructose corn syrup can quickly cause
you to gain weight and even make you have
cravings for more sugar and sugary foods.
Overeating sugary foods and foods that are
high in fructose corn syrup can even lead to
diabetes and other health problems. Avoid
processed sugars and opt for fresh fruits
and berries. |
My dear Nigerian Youth,
It was Albert Einstein that said "No problem
can be solved from the same level of
consciousness that created it".
That, unfortunately, is what you are doing.
You complain about the problems and
challenges but that's all you do. You follow
the same people who created the problems
and eulogize them to high heavens. You are
guilty of lack of depth and originality. Your
level of thinking is pedestrian. Since no one
can rise beyond the level of their thinking,
you have remained at the aboriginal state of
being- the same with your progenitors.
Universities and tertiary institutions shape
and mould their products such that they
stand out in the originality of their ideas.
Alexandria, the first University in the world
was a centre of enlightenment. Harvard
turns out products who impact the world.
Yale and MIT products leave their indelible
footprints everywhere they go. Our own
local universities and tertiary institutions
churn out mass ignorance. They produce
graduates who should know but don't even
know that they don't know.
You only have weight and occupy space.
Your constant thought is only about today
while you don't seem to know that
tomorrow is already here with us. You
wallow in the past while your
contemporaries the world over leave you
behind. Africa is behind the Western world
by almost 250 years. You know what that
means? You're a relic. You're a museum
piece. You're stuck in your ways. You're
becoming a liability to the entire world.
While youths all over the world are
innovating and inventing things, all you do
is to fight over one politician or the other.
You carry placards at the screening of
'wannabe' ministers when your brains
actually need screening. There is no other
country in the world where people love their
oppressors like you do. You think you
change governments but all you do is
change one oppressor with another.
While the demographics of leadership the
world over is getting younger, yours is
getting ancestral. The youngest person in
your government's cabinet is 48 while the
oldest is 68. Justin Trudeau, the new Prime
Minister of Canada is 43. If he were to be a
Nigerian, he won't even get a cabinet
position. In 1973, Yakubu Gowon was 39
years when he visited Canada and shook
hands with Justin Trudeau who was barely
2 years then. Today, Justin Trudeau is the
Prime Minister.
The future is here with us while we remain
stuck in the past. While others are carrying
the destiny of their nations, you are carrying
the bags of politicians. In 2012, 19-year-old
Proscovia Alengot Oromait was elected as a
member of parliament. Now 22 years old,
she is the youngest person ever elected to
office in not only Uganda but the entire
African continent. While some are solving
the problems of their nations, you Nigerian
youth are one of the problems of the
continent.
Does it not bother you that once you're
above 40 years, you have lesser years to
spend as you arrive at the departure lounge
of life? Should you not be thinking about the
future more than the present? For instance,
by 2050 Nigeria will hit the 1b population
mark. Thirty five years before 2050, we are
still stuck in subsistence farming. We can't
feed 170m people now so how can we feed
1b people? We can't provide housing for
170m people now, so how can we provide
housing for 1b people? While the rest of
humanity is trying to land on Mars with
200,000 applicants vying for just 100 slots,
we still find it difficult to run an airline.
While Fulani cattle run amok on people's
farms in Nigeria as a result of the archaic
nomadic husbandry being practiced, future
cities are being built elsewhere to raise
cows on rooftops. Within five years,
Europeans will swipe their smart phones or
watches to pay for most goods and services,
use phones as digital wallets, use them to
borrow money, invest it and transfer it to
other countries while we are still stuck with
brick and mortar.
Mercedes-Benz is developing a system that
will learn your schedule, tastes and even
moods after a short while. For example, it
knows that you leave the house every
weekday at 7:30 a.m. to take your kids to
school and the right temperature you
always want in your car. Based on GPS and
satellite data, it quickly learns your preferred
routes and tracks real-time traffic problems,
so it can suggest detours to help you save
time. The car can even tune the radio to the
Inspiration FM channel until you drop off the
kids, at which time it will recommend
Wazobia FM. In the afternoons, it knows you
usually prefer Classic FM. A car can make
smart decisions but you can't.
Almost 3,000 cars and trucks equipped with
prototype vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V) devices
have been driving around a city in Michigan,
over the past year-and-a-half as part of a
pilot program by the University of Michigan
and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
What they are doing? Cars equipped with
these devices emit beeps when they detect
potential hazards such as another vehicle
entering an intersection, a pedestrian, a
patch of ice or even their driver speeding
too fast around a curve. It is expected that
these devices could prevent up to 76% of
crashes on American roads. All we do here is
to erect speed-breakers. We are always
arriving very late. The first ATM in the world
was installed in 1967. Nigeria's first ATM
was in 1990- twenty three years late.
Why am I so angry with you? Shouldn't my
anger be directed at your dealers
erroneously called leaders? It's because the
destiny of this nation lie in your hands and
you know not. A nation is as hopeless as its
youths. A nation is as helpless as its youths.
A nation is as creative as its youths. A nation
is as clueless as its youths. A nation is as
energetic as its youths. The strength of a
nation lies in the promise of its youths. The
greatness of a nation lies in the potential of
its youths. A nation's destiny is then
essentially that charted by the young
population. Whatever a nation will be, look
no farther than the youth. I look at you and
I'm afraid for Nigeria.
You are a mass production from the factory
of ignorance. You are victims of a
dysfunctional society. You are inheritors of
an estate of crass foolishness. You are like
Nabal of whom it was described that folly is
with him. All you know how to do is wear
designer labels- from Gucci to Prada, from
Versace to Armani- you're obviously well
dressed but you're a well dressed fool. You
refuse to dance to the beats of the future
rather preferring to wallow in the
shallowness of the past. Wole Soyinka
described his generation as a wasted
generation. Will you be wasted also?
It is time to force your way to relevance. It is
time to take responsibility for the future
because the future will not be inherited- it
will be earned. Stop playing the blame game.
Stop blaming your circumstances because
you can rise in spite of them. Stop blaming
your ancestors because they bequeathed a
legacy of ignorance to you- they don't know
any better. Organize rather than agonize.
Don't just think outside the box. Throw
away the box. You have the numbers- use
them to force a real change. As you ask
questions, go further by seeking answers.
Rather, be the answer. As you talk about the
challenges, go further by seeking solutions.
Rather, be the solution.

A Family (a man his wife and their baby)
who just came back from a dinner out of
the house in a restaurant, perceived the
smell of gas in the house.
The husband upon entering the house
turned on the light to see clearly and
immediately there was an explosion that
killed the man on the spot. The explosion
also affected the wife who is currently in the
ICU unit.
The baby, being far from the explosion was
saved.
Utensils were found to more than 200 m
from the scene of the explosion.
Lesson:
1. When you perceive the smell of gas don't
turn on the light by contrast, proceed to
open your windows and shutters, gently, so
as not to create sparks.
2. Close the bottle of gas. Don't you turn on
the light bulbs until you are sure of the
dissipation of the smell of gas.
3. Also do not open the fridge or the freezer
because it could also create sparks.
4.If you are outside of your house, moisten
the key with your saliva before introducing
it into the lock. |
Military personnel and policemen on Friday prevented an irate mob from setting ablaze a filling station in Onitsha, Anambra, after a security guard shot dead a middle-aged man over N500. The incident occurred at about 10.00 a.m. at Ona-Jones Oil filling station near the Nkpor flyover on Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Nkpor, near Onitsha. An eyewitness said that soldiers and policemen arrived the scene and dispersed the mob, while they were mobilising to set the filling station ablaze. He said, “Trouble started when the victim had a disagreement over N500 balance from a business transaction with an alleged GSM phone repairer near the filling station. “The security guard interfered in the matter and ordered both of them to kneel down. They obeyed but his hands touched the trigger and the bullet hit the boy and he died instantly” The eyewitness said that the owner of the filling station alerted the police when passersby gathered tyres to set the filling station ablaze. “On arrival, the military personnel and policemen cordoned-off the station, dispersed the mob, arrested the security guard and whisked him off to Ogidi Police Division,” the source added. Another eyewitness said that the policemen took the corpse of the yet to be identified victim to a nearby mortuary. The Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ogidi, CSP Hassan Musa, confirmed the incident. He said the security guard has been arrested. |
Dangote Flour Mills on Friday reported a profit before tax of N2.64 billion for the half year ended June 30, after its re-acquisition from Tiger Branded Consumer Goods. This is contained in a statement issued by the company in Lagos. The statement said the profit before tax was against a loss of N9.55 billion posted in the corresponding period of 2015. Its gross profit stood at N14.03 billion during the period, while profit from operating activities rose to N8.47 billion. The statement said that the financial performance was heart-warming, given that the Dangote Flour Mills recorded losses in the past. It attributed the growth to the restructuring by the new board and management after the company’s reacquisition, which included the reopening of the closed Dangote Flour Mills in Kano. Mr Ighodalo Asue, the company’s Chairman, said the firm would continue to embrace investment opportunities to increase market share and shareholders’ value. Asue said since the takeover that the management had taken a lot steps to reposition the company through expansion to drive growth. “We bought back Dangote Flour Mills from Tiger Branded and by this move, it means we have a stronger, better sophisticated and more focused Dangote Flour Mills. “We are also using this medium to restate our commitment to increasing our shareholders value and our dear customers,” Asue said. He said that the company would continue to invest in the state and other parts of the country and even beyond the country for job and wealth creation. “It is our hope that our return to Kano will create more job opportunities and impact positively on the economy of the state. Asue said that Aliko Dangote’s decision to buy back the company had saved the jobs of about 3,000 employees and the shares of over a million shareholders. He said that the multiplier effect of his investment in the country was immeasurable. Mr Thabo Mabe, the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, was also quoted by the statement as saying that it return to profitability was due to several adopted initiatives to increase market share and create value for shareholders. Mabe said that the company was driven by the vision of putting its products on the table of every Nigerian. NAN |

IMMORAL DRESSING in the Church, even now
it still reigning in the house of God, and still
our Pastors & Prophets are busy in the
Church prophesying Nonsense and helping
them to Hell, telling them that Christ had paid
for their Sins in the Cross, they are now save
forever by the Righteousness of Christ. What
a falsehood Pastors & Prophets, and
funniest thing is that these immoral
dressing in the Church are those who
claiming and parading their selves as a
believer a child of God, that's the reason
why God said that His judgement will start
from the Church, just because Church were
made to be the light to the World, now what
is happening? Indecent dressing in the
Church is now no longer matter for God, and
you are bold calling yourself a man of God,
Woe to you, yes woe to you. You do call it a
Civilization, can your civilization surpasses
God's instruction to humanity if I may ask
you? Listen, the truth here is that what is
happening in our Churches today is not
Civilization, it is perishelization, pls permit

The Imo State Government has introduced a policy tagged: ‘Back-to-Farm’ to enable the state engage and invest heavily in agriculture for self-sustenance since the state can no longer depend on monthly allocation for survival. The state Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, disclosed that the ‘Back-to-Land for Agriculture’ policy of the state government would enable public servants engage in agriculture as a way of being self-reliant in business. He disclosed this when traditional rulers from the state operating under the aegis of Royal Fathers in Agriculture paid him a courtesy call at the Government House in Owerri. He said the state executive council had given approval to the new policy. Against the backdrop of the ‘Back to Land for Agriculture’ programme, the governor directed that public servants in the state would now work from Mondays to Wednesdays, and use Thursdays and Fridays for agriculture (farming) while Saturdays can be used for ceremonies. And the directive takes effect from August 1, 2016. However, the governor exempted public servants on essential duties like the teachers, nurses, doctors and those involved in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) drive. Political appointees are also exempted from the three-days working periods. The governor added: “We shall try this programme for the period of one year, starting from August 1, 2016, and hopefully, this will help. Let me make this emphasis before it is misconstrued or misrepresented, that this does not in any way affect the salaries of the workers. “Workers will get their full salaries as been the practice. So the policy does not mean that there will be a cut in salary rather, let us now find a way for our workers to supplement their salaries.” Okorocha continued: “For this reason, the issue of annual leave and casual leave is hereby cancelled. Resumption time for work has changed from 8a.m. to 7.30a.m. and ends by 4p.m. Any worker not found on his or her seat between 7.30a.m. and 4p.m. on the days concerned will be summarily dismissed. “Everybody must go back to agriculture. Every political appointee must own a farm. The youths would also be encouraged to take to agriculture. Schools including universities, polytechnics and secondary schools in the state must own farms. The Community Government Council (CGC) must be strengthened for the sake of this agricultural programme.” “Two billion naira has been set aside at the micro-finance bank for the purpose of this ‘Back-to-Land for Agriculture” policy so that those willing can access it. And time is again when politicians and some Imolites will come to government in the pretence of farming and collect loans and use it to buy cars and marry new wives. “I also want to announce that government has appealed to families and those who organise burials on Mondays to Wednesdays to please change and have their burials on Saturdays so that we can concentrate on the government’s work and on the agricultural programme. “Everything that has to do with agriculture, no matter what shape it comes, government will support it. So many countries are going through economic crisis because of the fall in oil prices. “Our nation is also going through a very difficult moment. We have taken responsibility as leaders and we are not blaming anyone. Wise nations and leaders save for the rainy days. There were periods the oil price was in our favour. But those in charge then blew the money. They made no savings. Today, the oil price globally has crashed and here we are. And we must fall back to agriculture as the panacea.” |
Embattled ex-chairman of the House
Committee on appropriation, Hon
Abdulmumuni Jibrin has been summoned by
the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaker Yakubu Dogara and Abdulmumin
Jibrin
Reports suggest that on Monday, August 1,
the APC sent a letter to Abdulmumuni Jibrin,
summoning him to appear before a
disciplinary committee at the party’s national
secretariat in Abuja not later than the
afternoon of Tuesday, July 2.
Premium Times reports that the ruling party
said all attempts to reach Mr Jibrin (who has
remained underground for almost two
weeks) by telephone calls and text messages
were unsuccessful, leaving the party with no
choice than to write to him.
In the letter, dated August 1, 2016, and
signed by the party’s Deputy National
Chairman for the Northern Zone, Lawal
Shuaibu, the APC expressed cautioned Mr.
Jibrin’s over his media campaign against the
Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, and
other principal officers over allegation of
budget fraud.
“To say the least, it is absolutely
unacceptable to resort to media war as a
means of settling scores without recourse
to and/or exhausting the party’s internal
dispute resolution mechanism,” the party
said.
Jibrin was removed as chairman of the
appropriation committee in controversial
circumstances on July 20
on allegations of betrayal of trust.
The lawmaker fought back, embarking on a
vicious media campaign
to have Dogara; his deputy, Yusuf Lasun;
House Whip, Alhassan Doguwa and Minority
Leader, Leo Ogor, removed from office.
(Ogor is the only PDP member of the four.)
Jibrin’s campaign had seen him release
details about how the passage of the 2016
budget was handled by lawmakers in a way
that portrayed them as fraudulent.
On July 29, he disclosed that he had
dispatched incriminating documents to the
authorities, who immediately swung into
action.
By July 30, the State Security Service sealed
the Appropriation Committee Secretariat in
the White House Building of the National
Assembly.
On Monday afternoon, Jibrin posted on his
Twitter page that he had visited the EFCC, the
ICPC, the SSS and police headquarters to
personally hand in petitions against Mr.
Dogara and his colleagues.
In the APC’s letter to Jibrin, the party said the
Kano lawmaker’s action underscored a
blatant disregard for party supremacy and
its existing dispute resolution mechanism,
adding that it would work to ensure that it
instilled discipline on all members.
“As a disciplined party, the constitution of
our party has made adequate provisions on
ways of resolving any issue among our
members,” Mr Shuaibu said.
“It behoves on the party to take all
necessary steps in order to ensure that no
member of the Family brings dishonour to
the party.”
The APC, therefore, reiterated its notice for
Mr. Jibrin to appear before the party
tomorrow, “urging” him to “be guided
accordingly” as he digested the content of
the letter.
“You are, therefore, by this invitation,
expected to appear before the undersigned
at the APC National Secretariat on Tuesday,
2nd August, 2016, at 2 p.m. Kindly note that
failure to and/or refusal to honour this
invitation will amount to a decision you have
made not to submit to the party.”
Shortly after Jibrin announced his visits to
law enforcement agencies’ offices where he
deposited submitted petitions, Mr Ogor
immediately welcomed the move.
“It’s a welcome development,” Mr. Ogor told
newsmen. “Now that he has pushed the
matter to the EFCC, then Nigerians should
exercise patience to see what the truth of
the matter is.”
Another lawmaker, Adams Jagaba, on
Monday said Jibrin should desist from
further defaming him and other lawmakers
with the budget padding mess.
Jagaba said the warning became necessary
after he learnt that Mr. Jibrin had named him
alongside others who he accused of
attempting to fraudulently inflate the 2016
budget figures, saying he had been a long
time proponent of selflessness in public
service.
Mr. Jagaba, chairman of House Committee on
Interior, said he lived a “modest life,” unlike
Mr. Jibrin who allegedly occupied “posh
personal apartment at the highbrow
Maitama District” of Abuja with “very
expensive automobiles.”
According to Jagaba, Jibrin’s car fleet
included Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs and
Range Rover vehicles, he noted that Jibrin
moves around with a “very long convoy of
expensive cars with host of security guards
armed to the teeth.”
Jagaba said his distaste for corruption dated
back to his days as the chairman of teh
House Committee on Anti-Corruption, saying
he was amongst those who championed
the course for a total rejection of bribes
allegedly given to lawmakers by former
President Olusegun Obasanjo, a tenet he
said he had continued to uphold ever since. |
President Muhammadu Buhari has fired
about 17 chief executives of agencies in the
educational sector.
On Monday, August 1, the president
approved the appointment of 17 new chief
executives of various parastatals under the
Federal Ministry of Education.
Premium Times reports that the new
appointees are Abubakar Rasheed (National
Universities Commission); Lilian Salami
