A brilliant 17-year-old Nigerian youngster identified as Jonathan Adewale has emerged as the youngest ever chartered accountant in Africa after acing all the required examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN) in Nigeria. Adewale has now set the record of being the youngest accounting professional in Africa and one of the youngest, if not the youngest, in the world. At the age of 17, the brilliant boy has joined over 3 million global accounting professionals under the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA). He started writing the accounting professionals examinations at the age of 14 while still in secondary school (High school). Narrating his story, Adewale said he has never won an award in his life and only had hopes that he will pass all his professional examinations at once. “I had the hope that I would pass all the stages of the examination at once,” he told Tribune. Adewale after becoming a chartered accountant now wishes to proceed to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with First Class honours at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), South West, Nigeria. A 16-year-old Nigerian wonderkid identified as Tomisin Ogunnubi, has emerged one of the winners of global $1bn Rise Initiative after beating 49,900 other applicants who applied from 170 countries across the world. The talented Nigerian girl, who specializes in the technology and coding gained a lot of attention after she developed an app called “My Locator”, a software that help lost children find their way back home in 2016. The “My Locator” app uses Google Maps to track users as they move from one location to the next. Users can add numbers that will receive their location in the event of an emergency. Since the creation of the app, it has garnered over 1,000 downloads. Tomisin emerged as one of the 100 winners of the $1bn Rise initiative fund and will now benefit a lifetime award including scholarships to study abroad, mentorship, career development opportunities and funding. The young teenager, who is a Computer Science student at Imperial College, London learned how to code at the age of 12 and wanted to use her knowledge to create something useful. She has explored and gathered knowledge in web and mobile development and worked with several languages and frameworks such as Javascript, Java and Python. She has also explored the fields of machine learning, design and animation.
