Hi, thanks a lot for the advise please can I get your contact so we can talk about this better and I can also give it to your mechanic to see if he can help

I have this same car but 2006 also with same problem, all diagnoses were done on the gearbox but nothing, we checked the gearbox seat/transmission mount and it was broken, we changed it and problem was fully minimized and never noticed again except very few occasions and my mechanic said it should be the solenoid that is bad and that very hard to get a replacement but that the gearbox will never give up, only few occasions u may have the jerk which u can live with and this seems to be true because i hardly experience it.

so if ur mounts are good and the problem is not often, instead of spending big money on valve body, u can just manage it, except all is ok with the car and the jerk is common.

Oh bro, i am in ghana sorry. same as my mechanic.

The mechanic is wrong. Volkswagens make use of their intake air temperature sensors. It uses this value to calculate precisely the amount of Oxygen it is getting. The reading of the airflow meter is corrected by the intake air temperature sensor reading. Some volkswagens will switch to another sensor (I can't remember which now), or use a base value which may affect engine performance negatively. Your compressor will also have issues if your ambient air temperature sensor (usually in front of the condenser or inside the bumper) is faulty or damaged. I experienced this personally and removed my perfectly good compressor for a conversion. When i realized my folly, it was too late already.

Hmm, i c. But i had the a/c compressor issue even when the air temp sensor was intact. and even the power loss problem started when the sensor was also intact. But like you explained, its better to have it back than not. Had to change the compressor to a mercedes benz compressor as we could not get the vw own.

Hi,
I have a VW Jetta 2007 model, though it drives fine but it has a transmission problem. during the acceleration process the gear 2 selection skips and this makes the car jerk, it is automatic and when I took it for a check I was told the valve body needs to be change, having done several gear oil testing and changing. please advise how do I get a good valve body

The only thing that is out of place is the engine Ecu. Have it replaced. Also check for a blocked catalyst. A blinking check engine light indicates a misfire, I haven't seen any where you wrote about sparkplug cleaning and re-gapping or replacement

Sir, thanks for the comment, we have replaced all 5 spark plugs and all 5 ignition coils and all were new ones.

The only thing he mentioned of recent was that he found trace of water in the ecu and that he will try and get one to test it. i am still waiting for that, but the car has sucked twice its value and its getting too much now.

Please replace the intake air temperature sensor and with right connectors too.

Looks like you've dealt with most of the culprits, but if it was all 'tokunbo' replacement, you might want to check all with another to double sure you got a properly working part, especially the MAF sensor...speaking from experience.

Cheers bro.

Thanks bro, the mechanic said the air temp sensor is not that important and that the connectors doesnt really matter as well as the engine can draw air without it.

95% of the parts bought were brand new, only the throttle body was used one which is frm jetta 6 and the knock sensor. all others are new.

Thanks sir

Car: VW Jetta 2.5L 2006.

Car was in in good condition even used it to travel down to Nigeria and Togo twice from Ghana but i passed through a pool of water up to the bonet level when it rained heavily in Ghana few months ago and caused great havoc.

I had changed the TCU and starter motor when the car developed problem second day after going through the heavy waters.

Like 2 months ago i noticed power loss on the vehicle and took it to my vw mechanic who diagnosed it with maxidas and said he didn't find anything, few weeks ago, i started the car and it was sputtering while the cel was flashing and i had to stop and start the engine again and it was okay but little jerk on changing gear from 1 to 2 which happened once.

Took the car back to the workshop and he diagnosed and reported something like "lean fuel" and decided it has to be the fuel pump and had to change it.

Few days ago, we changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, air flow meter(MAF), and serviced the throttle body, but this didn't solve the problem as the car losses power more often on 3000rpm and it never goes pass this, just keep fluctuating.

A re-diagnoses showed that o2 sensor heater contr circ(bank 1 sensor 2) and also Knock sensor 2 circ low input.

We then had to change the knock sensor, change the full throttle body and also another sensor at back of engine (probably the o2 sensor, i am not sure) and problem went away for 1 day after which the problem came back and the cel light came back on and then i noticed every-time i accelerate to gain more power and the RPM gets on 3000, it never exceeds this and it keeps fluctuating on 3000, trying to move above it but keeps coming back down, and this period the car losses power( like i depress the brake and decelerates), the speedometer stays in same place and the gear stays in same gear, whenever i take foot off the gas pedal, the rpm goes down, gear changes and car returns to normal,if i try to accelerate it goes into same problem, or it goes well above 3000 rpm but in little time, will go into same problem again.

We have as well change the accelerator maybe it could be the cause of this, and recently after dropping the car at the workshop for 2 days, the tech said he saw traces of water in the ECU, i do not know if this is correct and if can be the cause of the power loss.

Also the car a/c keeps tripping off and blowing heat occasionally until the A/c guy tapped some current and did some wiring which stopped it from tripping, also applies to the stereo and now its okay. All these were after the flood.

Maybe this can help as to why this is happening.

Also, the intake air temperature sensor on the image is because he removed the hook which the sensor was connected to because it was broken and lose.

I hope i can get some further headway to resolving this problem as it is becoming an issue.

Thanks all once again, i really appreciate.

Hello everyone!
@George D . Long time bros grin
It's good to see every one is doing upgrades.

You did not state how long you've had your present batteries. If it's over 6 months, it's not wise to add a fresh batch. You should just do a replacement.
The C.B is connected from battery + to inverter +. Make sure it's a dc breaker with.
You can just take a trip to Lagos and buy all you require.

Thanks for your reply boss,
the batteries are less than 6 months, yesterday went out to find out the current price and found out it has increased more, seems they are on the rise here now as electricity is getting bad.

another thing is cost of transportation all the way from lagos to accra, and then customs....their wahala too much.

thanks once again
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ora10g: 8:47pm On Feb 01, 2015
Hi all,
Great thread but seems like its getting dull already,... i hope not.

I have been using inverter for the past 13 years now but only on a small scale and i feel like expanding soon as i see alot of pple now prefer solars.
Currently i have 4 100ah gel batteries connected in parallel with a 12v 1000watts mod sine wave inverter and an external charger(2 spoilt and one local which i dont like as its unstable).

I will like to know if i can use another brand of batteries and amphour rating in conjunction with my present batteries while reconnecting to match the ah of the new ones, or it has to be same brand and ah rating all over, as it can be hard to get bulk quantity of same battery brand here in ghana, and i never for once seen a 200ah deep cycle battery here, max is 100ah.

Also, i will be needed a 3kw to 5kw inverter with high/fast charging capacity which is not on the high side cost-wise, as there is a decent(not so decent now) amount of electricity availability per day.

Also will want to know how to connect the battery to inverter(new one) using circuit breakers alongside.

Please bear in mind that i may chose to involve solar panels at later time as solar panel are so expensive here, like 650-750 GHS for a 120watts panel as at now, so will need an inverter which can also support solar installation.

Thanks and all input will be appreciated.

Why do you need more ground clearance?

Did it occour to you that you wld be compromising vehicle center of gravity to make u for ground clearance?

Somethings just ain't necessary.
You think about it.

Hmm, i dont think changing rims to a larger one will alter the center of gravity, modifying the suspension might alter it but not rim change.

I might be wrong anyway, but i solely do not think it will alter anything except for consumption and speedometer.

I got my car this evening the guy did a good job I told him to use a lighter shade of the initial brown to give it a 2 tone. P.S I ended up paying 15k I guess I didn't hear him properly the first time he insisted on 15k.

I hope the picture quality is not too bad.

Wow, he did a great job there, even at 15k inclusive of labour and material, it is still cheap. as i was told 800 GHC for just the material at the service center here and probably 500-1000 Ghc for labour which is going from 40k naira for material to 25k - 50k for labour which total will be arnd 100k.

The material used looks like the ruggy material. the one on mine is plain soft fabric and the fabric covers all interior except the dashboard and d seatbelt housing. might upload pix in the morning.

If i cannot get a cheaper place to do this in GH, i will have to wait till i come to NG to do this inclusives of tyres as michelin is like 500 Ghc for the size i need.

Thanks sir

Hi,

Car: VW Jetta 2.5
Model year: 2006

I am looking for upholstery workshops in Nigeria/Ghana where my car headliner can be safely replaced.

The headliner is pulling off lately and i do not like the sight, the amount required by VW service center in Gh is way too extravagant.
So if anyone knows an expert in this, can you please share the contact and probably the price.

Also i will like to know the price of good tyres in Nigeria, tyre size is: 205/55 R 16

Thanks
