aademimi: will sure do! thanks

Just make sure when you get one, get a brand new or close or if u are getting tokunbo, make sure you go with a good tech to make sure there are no underlying and prior problems, else you may have to spend alot getting it back on track, but if u are fortunate to get a good one, you will surely be rewarded with its excellence.

My brother the 2012 C350 is it. The exterior & interior design is superb and fuel isn't bad at all for 6 cylinder engine with a very high horsepower. I am really impressed with the little have read about it and as soon as am ready,i sure will get it.

Well said

That's the issue auhanson but some may really not understand anyway. If i need the 4matics,i'll rather go for the SUV that has a standard 4matic on them and not on the Sedan. Yes you are also correct about the horsepower on the 1.8 litre engine and better fuel economy. Choice differs but i will pick the C350 over the C250,more power and better fuel economy compared to its rival and it has horsepower of over 300.

The potential user has the final say anyway.

True, i too will prefer the C350 over the C250.
Mpg for C250 = 21/30 (city/highway)
Mpg for C350 = 20/29 (city/highway)

Thats just too close to judge and then more power and more everything.

It's all good.

Basically it means that you are very comfortable if the hardest thing on your plate is deciding the best german car to get grin

The other proverb, how sharp does a knife have to be to cut butter, well any of the cars that we are talking about will do any taks you will ever ask of it and you/ll never push any of them to 55% of their potential.

Gas/Fuel (very important in any engine)
Ignition/SPark(very important in any engine)
Compression(very important in any engine)

Then Oil.

Lol, no final choice so far, just looking around. And i will like a bit more explanation on "1st world problems" and the other proverbs. Do you mind if your give more insight please? as it may help.

The C250 and C350 are not the same. The C250 is a 1.8 litre engine(Single exhaust) while the C350 is a 3.5 litre engine(dual exhaust). I prefer the C350 because it's a Naturally aspirated engine, more power and fuel economy is fantastic almost like a 4 cylinder engine. If i can get all of that in a 6 cylinder,i think it makes more sense for me to stick with the C350. As for the VW and AUDI,i am never a fan of it so i don't know anything about those brands.

Great thanks, got your point. That means the C350 is a deal breaker, will read about it. how about the handling and repair parts? Any consideration into the CLA250?
Car Talk / Re: Best German Car To Get? by ora10g: 10:10pm On Sep 22, 2014
Eyop:

Mercedes,BMW,Volkswagen and Audi are all lovely brands. But Mercedes is the preferred choice for me and the CLA 250 and C250 you mentioned are both 4 Cylinder engine. My preferred choice is the 2012 Mercedes C350 Sports which is a 6 Cylinder and a direct injection engine(naturally aspirated) which is also the first to be introduce on the W204 series. I don't like the C300 because there's none without the 4matic(all wheel drive) which is what i try to avoid.

The previous years was indirect injection and the fuel economy suffered a bit but in 2012 you will get 20/29/23 mpg(city/highway/combined) also the interior in the 2012 looks very lovely compared to the previous years.

Thanks for the head-up, the C250 and C350 are almost same except for the engine i guess, but if i may ask, why do you prefer the 350 than the 250? more power or a mechanical issue?

Vw and Audi are almost the same cars and most have the same engines. But i havent looked at bmw in no way, just don't feel them as much..

Hi everyone,
i thought i will ask this question, whats the best german car from the 2011 - date range one can get? car must be a good one without much wahala of going to workshop every now and then.

Things i look out for are:

Speed
engine capacity: probably 2.0 to 3.5 L
Powerful, strong and well built.
year from 2011 to 2014

I was thinking about the Volkswagen CC but i read users review and many were so bad, from power steering going off, deflation of tyres easily and check light showing for servicing when not due and many others.

ALso considered the 2014 Benz CLA250, the CLA250 is very small and not so spacious to contain alot of goodies so looked at the 2012 Benz C250 which is nice as well but havent read users review on this two benz as at times, not all you read are accurate.

SO i thought i will just ask experienced users of german cars what they consider good,

SEAT, OPEL, SKODA are out of options
any other makes are welcomed

Please state reasons so i can better digest and contrast... and lets say, to be used in Nigeria.

Thanks

I haven't experienced that particular fault but I know that not all faults trigger a CEL immediately. With this software (requires learning the software itself somewhat) you will have more data (garnered from live raw data) to help you do further troubleshooting.

You need the stereo cable that this guys sells http://enfigcarstereo.com/RADIO_VW_JETTA_06.html I but all my car ICE stuff from Crutchfield.Com

Basically you can use any double din stereo.

Pic shows what I plan on doing which is why I'm not in a risk anymore. Mini iPad as the ICE.

The stereo in our cars truly sucks.

Great input sir, i will look into getting the software then so can actually know where the fault may be from, you mentioned live data, does it mean it can be connected while the car is running(moving) or when in idle but running?

As for the stereo, i saw those guys on YouTube but the diy looks so much complex to me, a lot of cables to connect, that Mini Ipad thing is real classic and awesome, real nice but looks kind of odd to me.
I hope changing the stereo will maintain same level of sound or more but the stock stereo is just too 80s.

Thanks Sir

Go here http://store.ross-tech.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=RTAC&Tab=3 and plug in your VIN number, it will tell you what product to buy. I think around $350 or so. Mine was cheaper as it was simply an upgrade as I've had their stuff for about 10 years now.

You can buy a cable on eBay and download the software to see if you will like it before you commit to it.

Great i will look into it, thanks.
But as there is not check light on and the gear selection is wrong at times, what do you think may be wrong from ur experience with the car sir?

Thanks

I have the stock radio and I remember that when I researched doing it the general consensus was that I would still need certain specific modules to make it all work.

I have reserved myself to installing an aftermarket stereo instead but that also requires specific cable.

So in short I don't think you can just plug it in and it will work. The CAN system in that vehicle is tied in to all sorts of things.

Maybe oga Siena can educate us more.

Thanks for the great input, in that case oem is not the way to go. Which product will be the best aftermarkey dvd player for the car sir?

any ideas?

@CityNG,
thanks sir, so do you think the fuel consumption with my car normal? as i got that with both city/highway driving. i think it takes more fuel than it should though.

Last time i serviced i used the shell 5w 40 full synthetic oil which i saw in the manual that it is recommended as well. and for atf, used the Ravenol CVT full synthetic as well.

What do you pick of the gear selection error at high speed? especially when i throttle hard to quickly accelerate, if doesn't jerk, it stay on gear 4, then when foot removed it goes to either 5 or 6 and until i depress the brake, or it decelerate, it doesn't come down.
what could be wrong
Car Talk / Re: Volkwagen Jetta High Fuel Consumption by ora10g: 5:06pm On Sep 14, 2014
it is i5, no CEL light. it was both city and highway, but much more in city traffic than the highway.

Hi all,

car description:
2006 Vw Jetta 2.5 liter engine, gasoline, automatic trans,(tiptronic)

As fuel price is expensive here and going high steadily, i decided to check how much fuel my jetta consumes and what i noticed is a bit surprising to what i have seen on the internet as the normal MPG ratings.

i bought 8.96 liters of fuel when the car gave the reserve alert(low on fuel) and with the fuel purchased, i drove only 54.9 kilometers before it alerted again, with A/c running little of the time. I used A/c for less than 20km of the total time.

i also noticed when on highway and really at high speed, the gear sticks on gear 4, but when i removes foot from the throttle, the gear goes into gear 5 or 6 and will remain until i matches the foot brake to really to come a very low speed before it goes back to normal counting.
What could be the cause of this?

8.96 Liters
54.9 Kilometers.

So is the car fuel consumption high? once noticed a mis-fire if that may help(only once)

Thanks

You are right sir, its Gasoline not Diesel. And also not DSG, its tiptronic

mayor2013: You should have your check light on. Go for a scan and post codes here

There is no check engine light, not any except airbag which has nothing to do with the tranny.
Last time the check engine was on and diagnosed, it reported that Traction Control System was faulty and the mechanic(works mainly on volvo, vw too as he stated) said probably the ABS sensor is dirty and needs cleaning, coz it may not send response quickly to the trans when needed, i think he means the speed sensor as it is part of the ABS and the Traction control, but since it has been cleared then, the check light hasn't appeared even though the car jerks while shifting sometimes.

All workshop i had been to never accepted this as jerking, only said its gearbox shooting/gearbox problem.

Thanks for the reply sir,
It is the 6 speed 2.5L engine and tiptronic, not DSG. I guess dsg are written on the DSG tranny, which is not on it.

Dear sir Sienna,
i only hope this thread is still alive as i need ur assistance with urgency, Please forgive my long writing, and try ur best to assist.

VW

Auto(tiptronic)

Frontwheels(i think)

07) Car starts and runs, but jerks in motion, fuel consumption appears normal.
28) Auto transmission slips in all gears, engine revs high, road speed doesn't match. Gear shift indicator on dash (PRNDS, PRND etc) all illuminated.

EXPLANATIONS:

i bought this car last month with 70,410 KM on it. It has 2 problems which are car doesnt start immediately after filling with fuel, this was fixed after diagnosing and we replaced the hose that delivers fuel to the injector, which was blocked and problem went away.

second prob is car jerks on shifting from gear 1 to 2, and 2 to 3. I guess my mechanic noticed this and he suggested full servicing ranging from engile oil change, engine oil filter change, atf change, all brake pads, all spark plugs, which i did as i see them necessary.

i bought the engine oil myself which was fully synthetic and met vw specs, but the atf i do not really know which brand and spec he bought but after atf was changed, the jerk from 1 - 2, 2 - 3 became more forceful and noticeable and also when downshifting also. we diagnosed gearbox with several workshop to no avail and no codes or fault were found and i was advice to use it like that till it becomes more pronounced and regular as it didnt happen everytime, just occasionally.

Few days after the check engine light was on and i went to diagnose at another workshop who specialize in german cars myself and the error was TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM is faulty, the mechanic asked if i have noticed anything with the transmission and i told him the problem and he said probably the abs sensor is dirty and not sending signals to the transmission early enough as we are pressing the pedal to move. He cleared the code and said i should study it more and if it continues we can then try and find where the problem may be, i asked if cleaning/changing ABS sensor will solve the jerk but he wasnt so sure as he said he will have to find where the real problem is, firstly solving abs and then moving on to others, BUT the ABS light wasnt illuminated so i doubt this might be accurate.

Last week jerking became more pronounced and the PRNDS were all lighted, i had a friend take me to a VW specialist he knew and after complaining about the jerk, he changed the fuel filter, as it was dirty/blocked and that day the jerk never happened until the next day at an highway and it was worse, and i was leaving the traffic light with full force on the gas pedal, there was a jerk like 4 times repeatedly before it moved on, and the car never moved as fast as it used to, gear count stopped at 4 and when i remove foot from gas pedal, gear count went straight to 6 which is totally wrong and continue to mis-count until i off/on the car but car never went limp and do not happen anymore.

Next day i was at the workshop again, before got there noticed that the gear count went wrong again, and this time, when at complete stop the gear count is at 3 instead of 1, and while moving, goes from 3-4-5-6, and downshifting 6-5-4-3 and never below that until power off and removing key of the car and starting again and it corrected itself.
At the workshop they said probably the atf which was filled a month ago is bad one and when they check it was kind of dirty as they said, we had to change the gearbox oil again and this time i went to buy myself and bought the RAVENOL CVT ATF, fully synthetic and met vw/audi specs.

They removed the filter which is still ok and washed it with fuel with the gearbox pan and refilled with the ravenol atf. i had to take the car immediately after this and i noticed the jerk was still there going from gear 1 - 2, but never happened from 2 - 3 anymore, also downshifting from 3 - 2 it jerks as well but still not all times. after 20km of running the car, at a stop i shifting to N(neutral) and then to Reverse, then there was this big jerk(never happened before) also i noticed if i shift from either Park or Neutral to either Reverse or Drive, it gives a jerk before it balances. i decided to wait more time to allow circulation of the new oil before i conclude and next day the jerk from P/N to R/D disappeared and never happened again till now, but there is still little jerks sometimes from 1-2 and 3-2. At times only jerks once a day when shifting 1-2 and never when downshifting, at times its light, at times its hard, at times jerks 2ce repeatedly while shifting to 2 and there was a time(only once) thar car rev so high before changing gears.

i drived up to 60km today and never once did the jerk come up. yesterday i did up to 150km and experienced it like once.

The new mechanic said i should not let anybody touch the valve body as it is okay and the problem is not there else they may destroy it.

But i dont want this problem at all as i fear it may lead to more complicated issue, like destroying the gearbox itself, the car hasnt gained alot of miles to be having gear problems as i see it, and from what were changed, i doubt if the first user changed anything on the car.

Please advice what could be the prob. Its better to solve a problem at the early stage than when it becomes more of a complicated issue which will require alot.

I have already spent alot on the car as adviced by first mechanic to change all things so we can be able to gauge the time period ourselves. i'm regretting change the break-pads as the ones bought(new) seems to not be original as they make some kind of noise from front passenger tire.

Please just advice me with ur expertise on what i should do, i have contemplated going to VW service center to complain but i guess they will advice that i change the transmission or they over charge me for what i cant afford.

sorry for long writeups just have to get it straight so you can know where i am coming from.
Also, all this jerk, there is no Check engine light, and all diagnosing done on gearbox showed nothing as reported by the mechs. Also engine seat and gearbox seat are all okay. so i think it may be a mechanical prob.
But where or what is it?
Thanks
