"Life Itself is an Examination" Its has been ascertained that learning is incomplete without a test to show how much has been grasped of what have been learnt, that the major reason examination tends to appear in all classes learning (both formal and informal). In Nigeria alone; there are millions of students sitting for different examinations, where supposedly only the best are chosen and the rest get nothing. Amidst this competition to stand out and rise with the best, Examination Malpractice is born. Examination Malpractice is a vice practiced at all levels of educational institutions and Exam boards nationwide. To any desperate student; these venture would sound promising - Easy Pass, Less Hard-work and an easy life through school. But just like every other vices it has its consequences, Naive students and real hard-worker who actually put time and effort into reading are being overlooked for money's sake. There is a reversal in fortune as the failures win and the winners fail. The Administrators (Lecturers/Teachers) who are supposed to educate the students have also joined the trend, promising students A's in their subjects/courses just for extra cash or in wanting to satisfy their carnal desire promise mark for sex. Such demoralizing situation is just another paint to the already tainted image of the country. Teachers encouraging student to contribute money to bribe invigilators during External exams, Swapping of Examination results, Impersonation and many more are factors which can seriously deteriorate the morals of any student and make them view cheating as a way of life. If the student who grew up with this belief supposedly finds his way into a political seat, what happens The Country will only be plunged deeper into the depth of corruption. So far the solution provided for Examination malpractice has been punishments for the offenders which is hardly enough as culprit often never see the Court house or face punishments. I suggest an outlet should be provided to facilitate the easy access to reach out to the student in all levels of education, creating awareness on the dangers and consequences of examination malpractices. Vocational Courses should also be encouraged alongside the standard educational subject's so that those who have little interest in the latter can utilize their talent elsewhere. I believe putting in these preambles will help go a long way in eradicating examination malpractice and ensuring a brighter tomorrow. © Osedebamen Mary Julius popularly known as REBEL is a writer with a creative flair for unconventional stories. Believe in hard work and consistency not talent. Comr. Adeoye Raphael a reputable writer and critics advise the Nigeria youth not to wait till they are faced or pressed down by reality of life before they realize that the government don't care.. Let no one in life make you feel down that you have got no talent! I believe in the ability of hard work in that which you believe on! Give it all you have and never give up on your vision about it. None is in your position to see that which you can visualize! The government do not give a damn about you, the only person that cares about you is that person you see when you look to the mirror. He is the only one that can help you! The government will only lie to you, deceive and fight you by all means to ensure the mission to your vision ends in division and unaccomplished mission... They tell you that you are the leader of tomorrow to make you feel relaxed when tomorrow was already years back. If you think its a lie, try to study any course of your choice in the University and make good grades in O'level. If you fail to fail their JAMB they will ensue you fail their POST-UTME and if in hard work you pass POST-UTME they will give you a course you never heard of in your entire world before. They are doing all things to make sure you fail and become useless to the society so that you can be put in prison to imprison your vision or become a nonentity to your household and the world at large... If you decide to take the course being given to you that you have never heard of or you are fortunate to be given the course of your choice by mistake, and by all means you came out with the best grades which they claim is what will make your dream come through, it is only then that your eyes will open to reality. How can a school certificate holder employ a first class graduate without fear? Your president himself didn't go to University how much more having a first class before he will know the value. They have only succeeded in killing your dream but don't ever let them do that! The fact is that no matter how you double your hustle they will say you are lazy. They wanted to kill your dream but what couldn't kill your vision empowers it! Put more efforts in that which you believe in because Dangote, Bill gate and all the other most successful men have got not what you call talent but its all about vision, hard work and consistency... I believe in one of the Holy book that says the gift of a man makes way for him to sit before kings and not mere men. Anyone that is no body becomes somebody when he realizes that every man has a gift and visualizes how to bring out such gift in order to help others. The dream of a man makes him to be a living creature and if you have no dream to live for, look for a dream that worth your life. Hence, don't ever believe in most religious or political leaders, these people are deceitful and that is the primary function of the devil. Comr. Adeoye Raphael Popularly known as Prof, is a graduate of Microbiology from University of Benin, His Hobbies include reading, surfing, writing, driving, playing games, swimming and singing. CORRUPTION AND CORRUPT PRACTICES IN NIGERIA EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM In actual fact, education is not only the key to success but the bedrock to national development. Corruption is a form of dishonesty undertaken by a person often to acquire personal gain. Corrupt practices has long being in the harbor of our dear country and like a fast spreading epidemic disease; it has spread through every thread and fabric of our society with the educational sector not left out. Corruption in Nigeria educational system is the most dangerous form of corruption in the economy and has led most students to lose interest and faith in the educational system. During the sojourn of my school days I have lived to witness different corrupt practices. Practically stating a case in my Primary school (Primary Four) to be precise, the Proprietor had officially announced that there won’t be promotion to Junior Secondary School without passing Primary Five and undergoing the common entrance examination. Numerous guardians went to see the proprietor in respect to their wards; Lo-and-behold upon resumption of the next academic session, some of my classmates were transferred to JSS 1 without going through Primary Five or writing the common entrance examination. Unknown to us, the proprietor had been bribed with huge sum of money by guardians to get their ward transferred. Vividly recurring another case that occurred in my Junior Secondary School (Class Three), where a friend of mine who newly transferred to my school was asked to repeat (Class Two); because his name according to the principal couldn’t be added to the (Class Three) list, as the names had already been sent to the ministry of education. Surprisingly, a girly that joined (Class Three) a month later was eligible to sit for the JSSC Examination because her father has the means to by-pass protocol and see to the self-enrichment of the principal. Cases of examination malpractice including hoarding and smuggling of materials into examination hall, having access to examination questions days or hours before the exam, having sex or paying (bribe) in exchange for marks or favors. Paying to pass an examination by students, sometimes aided by guardians has led the society to believe that engaging in corrupt practices is the way forward. The student then bribe to pass all through their higher institution days, they end up with a certificate they can’t defend, get a job, get married, have kids, teaches and support their kids to engage in corrupt practices and the circle goes on, while the society is left to bear the burden. Embezzlement of funds meant for the development of the educational system, stealing of school property by students and teachers alike, cultism, drinking, smoking, drug abuse by students are also some of the key corrupt practices in the educational sector. Steps should be taken to halt corrupt practices in our educational system, to save the future generation and the society at large. Guardians and students should be educated on the gravity of corruption and corrupt practices. Easy access to Guidance and Counselling programmes should be made available to students in all tiers of education. Compiled by DPT Scholars Class of June 2018 Edited by D Oracle http://www.dprimeguide.com/2018/06/corruption-in-nigeria-educational-system.html?m=1
