Career / Re: Accountants: ACCA, ICMA Or ICAN. by orisebawo(m): 7:19am On Feb 21, 2012
My advice is to go for ACCA if that is your goal, 21 years isn't young to start ACCA and besides instead of spending 3 yrs on CAT you might as well spend it studying ACCA.

After spending 3 yrs with CAT you might lose steam to go another 2 or 3 yrs for ACCA
Career / Re: Accountants' Forum. by orisebawo(m): 6:55am On Feb 21, 2012
Nice Topic,

The ERP package is an important tool fortoday's accounting but there is no such thing as a one size fits all package, for instance i have worked in different companies using excel and they arenever the same, this is because the system you get depends on the business requirement you give to the software company e.g Oracle SAP etc, no doubt the interfaces might be similar but the functionalities will differ, while you have some oracle package that have the Oracle financial, procurement and Hr all linked, you have some without the HR function and some will only the Financials and projects, while some will have the OFA which makes it easier to extract information from the ledger others don't have this facilities.

It all boils down to what the company is ready to spend on IT and what advantages it will derive from it, you will be surprised that there are FTSe 100 companies that don't a financial project package and have to depend on Excel to drive the process.

For the gentleman that has finished ACCa and wants to do ICAN, well it is a good idea and there are many things you will learn that isn't included in ACCA, for example the Nigerian tax rule and the legal framework is different from what you would have learnt in ACCA, ICAN does a one week conversion course, without ICAN I don't think you can sign off a financial report in Nigeria, for your information there less than 34,000 ICAN members in a country of 160 million.

Jonathan's govt doesnt need help in undermining itself, you can only undermine something that has credibility.

Buhari hasnt said he is the solution but atleast he has given advise on areas that need serious attention, it is obvious if Jonathan decides to feed himself and his family for the next one year and donate the N1b to the education sector, the lives of thousands of student will atleast improve.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Arsenal Offer Thierry Henry Two-month Loan Deal by orisebawo(m): 7:52am On Dec 30, 2011
As an Arsenal fan i welcome Henry but he is still not the long term solution.

During the emirates cup this summer i watched the match between Henry's newyork team and Arsenal and it was obvious we were missing him as the Arsenal back 4 could not really contain him.

He still has the speed and didnt look out of place at all. The fact that he had been training with the team speaks volumes as it would allow the players to see first hand if he is up to standard or not.

Personally, I believe Henry is being groomed for a future coaching role
Politics / Re: Lagos Targets Churches, Mosques In 2012 Tax Drive by orisebawo(m): 8:27am On Dec 23, 2011
The church might have a school in another name and the school might have paid its corporation tax to the government, but there is still another angle to it, the church or the pastor might be receiving dividends from the profit from the school and as such the pastor/church need to declare this and pay the appropriate tax due, so the fact that a church owns a micro finance bank that pays its tax to the government  doesnt exempt the directors of the bank from tax due on the proceeds, that is where a self assessment tax declaration is needed, but without a centralised database and a functioning tax system, i dont believe the govt can effectively implement this tax rules as the citizens need to be educated and understand what they are paying for and what they should expect in return.

The tax paid to government is for the services it provides the citizenry such as security, good schools, clean water, hospitals, good roads, value of life etc and NOT payment so that government can provide the services, it is always SERVICE BEFORE TAX AND NOT TAX BEFORE SERVICE.

Based on the fact that government has not really lived up to expectation, I wont expect people to be happy about the tax.
Politics / Re: Lagos Targets Churches, Mosques In 2012 Tax Drive by orisebawo(m): 8:10am On Dec 23, 2011
I think it is a welcome development, although it remains to be seen how fashola intends to implement this.

A lot of commercial transactions go on at religious centres, selling of religious book, cd, audio cassette etc are taxable activities and a large chunk of the church/mosque revenue ccome from these activities, this is ofcourse apart from other activities by 3rd party vendors that advertise on the premises or sell their goods during conventions etc.

Most of them also let out part of the premises for various activities and as such revenue from such should be taxed.

Honorariums paid to visiting pastors is also taxable

You guys want to kill me with all these bukas, i can still perceive the aroma.

My first buka called Pomola at the odogbolu garage, we used to go thru the bush at fego to eat fufu and egusi with pomo, fantastic, worth the suspensions grin

Aunty Kemi at the old Tejuosho market at the small gate, never seen rice so beautiful

Bank Olemoh rice (May the mama's soul rest in peace) the stew from a well bleached palm oil and the dodo was something else.

Shitta amala, what else can I say, the only place I devoured 10 pieces of pomos, the pomos there are well trained, hence very good boxers

koffi my good friend before the days of "ghana must go" how can i forget your delicious ghana bread with planta washed down with a cold bottle of sprite, you were the king of surulere.

Yellow gari with ogbono at umunede in edo state is worth a visit

Iya Kudus at ijesha, your ewa agoyin and soft yam is what every man needs first thing in the morning

Apo, my beautiful Apolonius at Malabo (Unical), for 5 years in the early nineties i could easily have sang "no one but you"

Mama Uduak aka fire on the mountain, the akara is the biggest I have seen with enough room to slice and garnish with spiced pepper

Jonathan is a joke and ofcourse I knew he would chicken out of the debate because he has nothing to say, how many of you will employ someone in your company without inviting him to an interview of some sort. since PDP has no plans for the country and the president has obviously got nothing upstairs to stimulate the populace, that is why he is looking for expo.

we all know the rallies are a congregation of thugs and he who cherishes his or her life will be wise to stay clear.

A Phd holder that has been in govt for over four years should be able to to answer any question about his job, i am sure even a mechanic will be ready for any questions concerning car engines anyday anytime

Sports / Re: Nigeria Vs Argentina: [0 - 1] On June 12, 2010 @ World Cup by orisebawo(m): 9:28pm On Jun 12, 2010

Diego Maradona, Argentina coach

That was an important step for us today but we need to make a whole lot of improvements if we want to reach the Final. The game played out just as I thought it would, and if we’d converted the chances we made then we’d be talking right now about a fantastic Argentina performance. However, we were very wasteful and that’s something we need to sort out. If you let your opponent off the hook, you normally end up paying for it, although on this occasion they let us off the hook. Winning games gives you confidence and that’s the good thing, and if we can keep on picking up results then the players are only going to grow in self-belief.

Lars Lagerback, Nigeria coach
I am a little disappointed with the result although I am proud at how my players performed. Unfortunately we made an error that led to the corner they scored from, and at this level if you lose your concentration for a second you pay for it. That’s exactly what happened. If we hadn’t made that mistake, we might have come away with a draw.

Gonzalo Higuain, Argentina forward
It’s vital to get off on the right foot, especially with Korea [Republic] winning their game. This is only the first match, though, and there’s still a long, long way to go. It’s a shame we didn’t kill them off earlier, and on a personal note it was just one of those nights when I destined not to score. Like I said, it was a good start, which is the important thing.

Vincent Enyeama, Nigeria goalkeeper and Budweiser Man of the Match
It was a great night for me and to play against a team like Argentina was a fantastic opportunity for everyone. And I’m proud of the way we responded to their early goal.

Obafemi Martins, Nigeria forward
Losing by one goal to a team like Argentina is not the end of the world. They scored early on and that made things tough for us, though we did put in a good performance and we hope to turn the situation around. The match against Greece is so important now because we simply have to pick up three points. We’re still in with a good chance.

Martin Demichelis, Argentina defender

We needed to get off to a winning start and we did. It’s a good way to begin the tournament and the other encouraging thing is that we also created a lot of chances, although we need to keep working on our finishing. Even so it’s a big step towards our first major objective of reaching the Round of 16.
Sports / Re: How Far Will Nigeria's Super Eagles Go? by orisebawo(m): 8:30am On Jun 06, 2010
Nigeria's problem has always been lack of discipline and not skillful players, having said that I believe the new coach has brought in some amount of discipline with no one asurred of a starting shirt.

Our problem as a nation is simple, we are not patriotic enough, our support for our team should be constant as nigerians irrespective of how well they might fair at the competition.

yes we all know they havent prepared enought and we would have preffered more time but hey we are where we are and we should support them all they way. i know they will qualify from the group, a win and 2 draws will do it for us, I dont rate argentina too much becuase individually they are good but as a team they can be very average, we all know lagerback is using the same players amodu used, but a raquet in the hands of Federa will give a diff result to one in the hands of Murray

Orikinla,

I agree with you  whole heartedly.

Others,

Argue your point, we dont have to agree on everything but be civil, if actually you are trying to extholl the virtues of a gentle man you dont do it by breaking bottles.

I never said Abiola held a political position but atleast he won an election which was anulled, that is why I said he was denied the presidency.
Politics / Re: Awolowo Had No Equal by orisebawo(m): 7:06pm On Jun 04, 2010
This further proves your first degree illiteracy.
Abiola never held a political post. . . . . .He was a philanthropist. . . .
Comparing Awolowo to Abiola tells me your IQ is lower than your shoe-size.

I am sure if Awolowo were alive he will tell you to reason with your head, present your arguement professionally and then make your point.

Name callings will not help.

Direct from Remo, not far from Ikenne.

That is the problem with you, you believe if I am a yoruba man I should tow the line, I am a nigerian first and then a yoruba man, but in all things we need to be objective, I still remember my dad going to queue at Awolowo,s lying in state over 20 years ago, he was agood man but not one without equal.
Politics / Re: Awolowo Had No Equal by orisebawo(m): 6:54pm On Jun 04, 2010
Are you for real, I am a yoruba man and I respect Awolowo very well but your assertion that  he had no equal is nothing but a fallacy, the Awolowo I know was a tribal leader i.e a local champion and he was never denied the presidency, he just didnt have the skills needed, he failed to evolve from a yoruba man to a Nigerian, he promoted tribalism by implying that the yoruba tribe was the best . When I read about Yoruba  leaders still going to Ikenne to meet with Awolowo's wife, it further buttresses my point that the Awolowo's are just trying to remain in the limelight and not really after any development and apparently not making any impact.

The Awolowo's should leave the younger generation to lead, afterall how old was Awolowo when he was the premier of the western region.

I respect him for what he did in western nigeria but that is where it ends, he was not a true Nigerian like Abiola, who was recognised all over Nigeria and is the only man that was denied the presidency.

I am not slighting him I am only saying the truth.
Family / Re: Should A Married Lady Ask Her Very Rich Ex-boy Friend For Finaicial Assistance? by orisebawo(m): 4:36pm On Jun 02, 2010
I will not even want to hear of such, i dont even want any ex to be speaking to my wife about political views let alone, financial assistance.

what it really means is that my wife is indirectly telling the ex she made a mistake in marrying me, if i accept such an offer it makes me a sick man, everyman wants to be the alpha and omega of his wife and wants to be in the position to provide all, but we all know that is not the case and it is left for the wife to protect the husbands dignity and vice versa.

as for strings attached, with ex's the strings are always there waiting to be played, how will the woman feel if she cant cook my favorite meal the way i like it and once in a while i visit my ex for a well cooked delicacy and then explain to my in laws that there is no string attached, remember Okafor's law.

It is better to be safe than sorry.

Please it is better to help fine him a job rather than give him money, business is not about having the capital as it involves more business acumen and financial management, people willing to contribute cash could do that through the main coordinators which could help towards getting an accomodation, transportation, office wares etc.

I will be happy to contribute my widows might once it is clear what direction we are actually taking.

If anything in my book he comes first for innovation, courage and the tenacity to present his car at the fair,he is not a panel beater, panel beaters don,t think that far ahead and this guy has used all he has to deliver his dream car, whether you like it or not i dont think you will ever drive a car produced by your own hands and use a pen, write on a book, use a mobile phone or watch a tv you personally developed, produced or designed, the nearest you might come to such feat might be eating the eba prepared by yourself grin

The only way that will be possible is that you re-enrol for the examinations at the next sitting, study hard and hopefully, you will get above 270.

People are here to help genuine people who have difficulty getting their results and besides arent you ashamed of making such a request.

I see the present crop of jambites as the future of Nigeria and I feel if they have gone through thick and thin to sit the exams then they deserve to get their result without stress.

Please there is no short cut to success and dont believe anyone who claims to be working anywhere and can change your marks.

I am here to help people get their results as i know how it feels waiting for the results, i did my own jamb exams as far back as 1989 when the postal system was still working and within a few days the results were posted out, but obviously times have changed.
