pazienza: I don't know where the OP is talking about, but at the era in discussion, Western region was no match for the Eastern region in any aspect of human endeavor. All the rants in this book are about federal government which was dominated by Hausa and Igbo cause Yoruba was in opposition none of the statistics here says anything about eastern region being as developed or richer than western region it only says Igbos absorbed western Education and were in civil service so your still missing the point |

Ventura1: I don't like commenting on a thread like this, I want to move away from this kind of mindset.
That Azikiwe left the Eastern region to contest for Western premier is the height of arrogant and pride, which I think the igbo's have up till today. He chooses his puppet Opara to contest in East and was eyeing to control the growing Western region under Awolowo. Yup but failed woefully |

Maximize52: The celebrated cross carpeting occurred in 1951 before the independence elections of 1959. The cross carpeting led to the mutual mistrust between the west and the east. Azikiwe was betrayed in that almost all the NCNC members in the western region house deserted him and joined AG overnight NCNC was in the majority in the Western Region House. This singular act introduced tribal politics in Nigeria and also led to the AG and NCNC not being able to reach a common term to form the coalition that will form the government at the center after the 1959 elections. Azikiwe discovered that AG was in discussion with NCNC and NPC simultaneously to form the government at the center after the 1959 elections. This irked both Ahmad’s Bello and Azikiwe and paved the way for NCNC and NPC to form the coalition and thus formed the government at the center in 1960. People should research and know the sequence of events to know the truth. And the coalition led to 4 million Igbo deaths eh eh |

gwafaeziokwu: Yeah! Any narrative that assuage your inferiority complex is welcome.
Yorubas don't travel . If someone open a thread to say there is no Yoruba population in let's say Niger state all of you will bare your fangs! Maintain one narrative, Yorubas don't travel or they have less population in the east compared to other regions.
Refugees? Well if that is the term used to define a people who venture out of their domain to pursue goals and make ends meet. Then all the 300+ tribes in Nigeria are refugees. f Yorubas are actually the most travelled group in Nigeria |

LegendHero: This is a lie that have been perpetrated by people all along to justify Azikwe treachery and betrayal of the southern cause. Right from inception, Pa Awolowo never was in unison with the north and it will be an insult on the late sage to try to say he’s tryna form a government with the Northerners.
Balewa infact never liked Awolowo and that was captured succinctly by the NYT, I have other archives about the actual run of play that precede that 1959 election and it’s documented that it won’t be possible for Awo to even form a government with the north.
To address your first sentence, can you please tell me what is called a regional system of government? Each region should have the autonomy to rule its people with their resources. Wouldn’t it be a sacrilege for an Igbo to become the premier of the great and developed Yoruba people then?
So you mean Azikwe will be summoning the Yoruba Kings as their premier and he will be lording over the Agbekoyas (Farmers) who are the financier of the western region government .
So Azikwe will be the one to be calling the shots, he will be the one to implement free education, free healthcare, first among first in Yoruba lands, he will be the one to make and mar our Oba and the future of the Yorubas will be in the hands of an Igbo man. How does that sound to you bro!
They know how it sounds They are just butt hurt Azikwe got sacked Same way Igbo isn’t sad they started civil war Rather they are sad they lost the war Once you know how Igbo thinks their behaviour won’t Suprise you again |

LegendHero: I wanted to add Edo also but I don't want to make people accuse me of deciding for other people but I know the Edos and the Yorubas share a lot in common.
I have some of the archives that shows how the Eastern and Northern hemogeny made sure the mid-west is formed from the western region just to limit the growth and dominance of the western region.
We would have been great by being together but the conspiracy was well planned out. My happiness was Azikwe was alive to see how his people were destroyed due to his actions The Yorubas he loathed so much went ahead maintain advancement ovet his people up until today they still can’t match it His people now have a team called Ipob who want the secession he greatly opposed and how the mid west Edo & delta are now more successful than his region I’m happy he was alive and died a miserable man |

LegendHero: The Yorubas on this thread should not make this an issue of politics so as not to derail the main essence of this thread.
The reason I created this is to show us the development and success of the Western region. We would have been the envy of the world if we had maintained that regional government truncated by the Igbos and logically executed later by the North. We would have achieved more as an independent entity than being in this union called Nigeria. Edo & delta would have done well I’m certain their won’t have been a military take over in western Nigeria |

Two we didn't lose all that cos of alliance with the north The coup would have happened no matter who we aliened with
Get ur history well son The coup headed by an asaba man same people u said are not Igbo's was what lead to all that
Plus the Igbo phobia because how the English employed more Igbo's based on merit We are talking civil war dear If secession was in the Constitution igbos would have evoked it after the humiliation as oppose to war so it came ba I to bite you |

mrvitalis: So now awolowo won the war for Nigeria and u saying Igbo's betrayed him for not voting him ?
We should have thanked him for his role in the war with our votes right ? This was prior to any war I know deep down you wished zik agreed with Awo Nigeria would have been a loose federations with secession clause All the oil discovered in Niger delta would most likely be managed in Enugu If you ever wanted to leave it was legal Haq Instead out of emotions and hate you partnered with Fulani Removed seccesion 4 million igbos killed Igbos are a discriminated group Niger delta taking from you But you still rather partner with that same North 2023 Very stupid people you love your oppressors clearly |
