@House. The ISPON act is a welcome development. HSE in Nigeria needs to be regulated. However, I believe the law invalidates other training centers and this isn't encouraging.
You see, training centers like charkins, falckprime, finny intergrated services, SGS and a host of others are better poised than ISPON to deliver specialized HSE courses. Don't forget safety also spans to maritime safety, construction safety, industrial safety, food safety and so on- these are fields ISPON don't have the technical know- how to handle at the moment. What they need to do is adopt the NEBOSH approach- register centers as course providers and regulate the contents and examinations. Also it wouldn't hurt to affiliate with bodies such as OPITO and IRCA.
Another issue that would rear its head soon is ISPON asking intending members to undertake the General HSE and HSE level 3 courses irrespective of the fact that one may hold a NEBOSH IGC course or have field experience with top level certifications. Haba! It's like asking a graduate to repeat primary one. They ought to make provisions for people who may have undergone these trainings in other institutes prior to now. Even IIRSM and IOSH accept their membership from holders of NEBOSH or equivalent certifications. I'd advice ISPON adopts the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) model.
It's a new law but might be needing an ammendent soon. I'm sipping my zobo and watching events unfold.

German Christoph Daum claims he has been
approached by the Nigeria Football Federation to
replace Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles coach,
supersport.com reports.
The former Bayer Leverkusen manager was reported
to have told German website mobo.de that he
rejected the offer last week.
The NFF has yet to renew Keshi’s contract when it
expired after the Brazil 2014 World Cup in June and
he is currently on a ‘game per game’ contract.
Daum, 60, who has previously managed German
sides FC Cologne, VfL Stuttgart and Eintracht
Frankfurt, as well as Turkish outfit, Bursaspor, and is
currently out of work.
Keshi guided the Eagles in their two 2015 Africa Cup
of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.
Nigeria lost 3-2 to Congo in Calabar on September 6
and battled to a goalless draw against South Africa in
Cape Town four days later.
“I had offers last week to become coach of Nigeria,”
mobo.de quoted Daum as saying.
The former Fenerbahce coach said he is not open to
any coaching job until next season.
“By next year, I’ll take over a team,” Daum said.
Meanwhile, Stoke City winger Victor Moses has said
he was surprised he was not awarded a penalty after
he was brought down inside the box on his way to
goal in a 1-0 win over Newcastle United in their
Premier League match on Monday.
Nigeria international Moses, who is on a season-long
loan from Chelsea, has impressed in his four Premier
League appearances for Stoke City this season.

Sepp Blatter has changed his mind about staying on
as FIFA chief
ZURICH FIFA president Sepp Blatter confirmed on
Friday that he would stand for a fifth term in charge
of world soccer in an election in May next year.
"I have announced to the executive committee ... that
I will accept the demands of different associations
and federations (to stand for election) to serve FIFA
for a fifth mandate," Blatter said.
The 78-year-old has been FIFA's leader since 1998,
but has faced growing criticism from European
soccer chiefs in recent months.
The World Cup, a multi-billion dollar earner for FIFA,
is also embroiled in controversy over the way the
venues for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments were
decided.
Blatter's path to a virtually automatic re-election was
opened up after UEFA leader Michel Platini
announced in August that he would not challenge.
"First of all I'm not running — I'm at their disposal.
FIFA is a service and I want to go on serving," Blatter
said, stressing that his fourth term had yet to run its
full term and that FIFA was "not at the end of our
reform".

campusconnectng: Brutality at Benue Camp: 21 Faint due to 2 Hours Punishment
News reaching us from our reporters in Benue camp have revealed a brutality unleashed on corps members by soldiers at the orientation camp.
The reports have it that while a lecture was going on today, some soldiers beat a corps member for complaining about limited number of chairs available for the lecture. Punishments of youth corps members are believed to be permissible during the orientation camps but not beating.
The other youth corps members grumbled at the merciless beating of the corps members since he said the truth. They were all told to apologize afterwards.
The honest refusal of these corps member to apologize led to the unleashing of terror and several massive punishments during the hours of 4pm - 6pm today.
Unconfirmed reports from youth corps members at the camp have it that close to 21 corps members fainted and were rushed to the medical centre during the brutal punishment session.
The commandant of the camp has also threatened to that morning parades that were supposed to commence by 5am will now commence by 2am.
It is our honest plea that the authorities of the Benue camp, Benue State Government and the NYSC Headquarters to see to this report.

Pls oo mr op, it was just about 5 people that fainted. And there was no brutal beating or brutal punishment of any kind.

Yes we were punished from 3pm to 6pm but wasn't brutal. Some people's body isn't just used to that.

And pls d guy the disobeyed the soldier and brought 3hrs plauge on us wasn't beaten mercilessly oo. He was hit by d soldier due to his rudeness.

Camp life is fun, u will enjoy it. But as it is don't expect comfort oo.

Camp isn't too muddy, but u won't enjoy d road wen it rains. Is better u get a rubber tennis shoe to b able to escape that.

There's hardly water in the hostels and some hostels don't have light.

And pls make sure u don't disobey the soldiers. Them get power pass u for camp.
