PoliticsCivil Right Activist Claims To Rescue 470 Nigerian Schoolgirls From Boko Haram by oshoademola1(op): 12:25am On Feb 12, 2015
The abduction of over 279 girls from Chibok in April,2014 is still fresh in our memory. The incidence would have repeated itself two months ago in Bajoga, Gombe state if not for the quick intervention of Ibrahim Garuba.

Ibrahim Garuba popularly known as I G Wala, a leader of National Consensus Movement (NCM) in Gombe State, Nigeria dared to arrange the evacuation of the children from the deep heart of the bush where they fled with their teachers. He has been involved with the campaign of Bring Back our Girls.

Bajoga town was under fierce attack by the jihadi insurgents. The Islamic group entered the town in a stolen Armoured Personnel Carriers. They attacked the police station, robbed the bank and looted shops. The Bajoga police, alongside a few dozen soldiers based near the town were reported to engage the group. An unknown number of militants, police and military personnel were reportedly killed.

I G Wala said he was called on phone by a teacher in the school . He said the evacuation was made possible with the help of civilians as the Nigeria Military reportedly refused to enter the area claimed it was too dangerous.

No one mentioned or reported the evacuation operation since it happened two months ago. I G Wala provided photographs and video of the rescue, showing the 470 girls, all wearing school uniforms, running in single-file through dusty terrain, many barefoot.

I G Wala said he had received no compliments from the Nigerian government or the military except from the principal of the school in Bajoga.

CareerHow To Cope With Unemployment by oshoademola1(op): 4:44pm On Feb 09, 2015
Some years back, I felt like the world was collapsing over me because there was no job. I had sent different applications via mail, e-mail and also applied online using application portal. Most times, Nigerian owned companies would not give me feedback on my applications while most Nigeria based foreign companies would send me feedback like “We have now completed the process of shortlisting candidates for the above position. Unfortunately you have not been invited for interview on this occasion…..” It was frustrating and disappointing.

The state of unemployment may affect the perception, belief, and personal brand of anyone caught in the web. It may turn the vibrant personality of student leadership, creativity and initiative acquired and exhibited while in school into a mess. Notwithstanding, we should ensure that the loss of job or new search does not define our brand and perception .It may sound difficult but below are the tips that can help in the “trying” period

Thought of Forces

It is time you stopped thinking something is wrong with you or probably the “power” from your village is preventing you from securing your dream job. I believe that you can only be stopped if you allow it. ”No one can make you inferior without your consent”. Pray hard, search hard and work hard.

Thought of Foreign Certificates

It is a fact that employers in Nigeria prefer graduates with foreign certificates, they may not express that fact but it does exist. However, NEVER limit yourself in your thought. Cultivate that mindset that if the company requires just one person for the position that would be YOU.

Thought of a Low Grade

There are a lot of reasons why people may graduate with a low grade- Second Class Lower, Lower Credit, Third Class or Pass. In this write up, I am not concerned about why you graduated with a low grade .I am just interested in telling you that it is not the end of your life and career. I know of people with low grades that got a good job. They know people you would say! Right? “It is all about mindset, preparation for the greater height and ability to use your network effectively that counts” Lucas said.
Never allow this to weigh you down just be optimistic. If you have the money, apply for PGD, M.Sc., take professional courses, take ICT training and upgrade your skill set.

Thought of HND Dichotomy

This is a major concern in Nigeria. I am not interested in the problem anyway, all I see is possibility. Keep your mind open, keep in touch with your network and never relent.

Thought of Rejection

“I just feel like I am being constantly rejected, and it is hard to understand why”. Kelechi said .This thought comes when you go for interview and you are constantly being rejected.
It can be extremely frustrating and disappointing. But it can also be an opportunity to learn something new. Every rejection email you receive can take you one step further to that acceptance email if you make sure you learn from the experience. As you proceed, take cognizance of the interviewer’s questions and reactions, your response during the interview, w and evaluate your general performance. It can serve as a learning process to perform better next time.

REMEMBER

• Unemployment can happen to anyone, when it happens you may not be able to control it but you can control how you think and act.

• Your social media platforms are one of the best ways to get your dream job. Explore it!–Online Networking (we will learn about these in
another write up)

• Your friends, family, religious group and other value added organisations are your best bet for getting job. Use them. Do not be afraid,
shy or tired to ask for help – Physical Networking.

• Let your CV be concise, straight forward and neat-It is your first brand

• Always prepare well for interview. Understand the content of your CV, Read about the company, study likely interview questions and
always appear neat.

• Learn new skills set especially IT related

• Take new courses-Professional, Postgraduate, Public speaking etc.

• Register for an entrepreneurial training

• Money is not everything. You can start small. Do not despise little beginning.

• You can volunteer for organisations like Rise Network, Gemstone, LEAP Africa etc.

• Do not ignore contract jobs. You might just be lucky to be absorbed

• Put in for internship to learn all the way

• You can start little business. It will grow big if you are focused and determined.

• You can earn income by being an affiliate for companies like , konga.com, dealdey.com, Amazon etc. Everyone around you
need something!

• Turn your passion to money.

“Finally, do not let unemployment define you — you are not an unemployed person, you are just someone who happens to be temporarily between jobs while adjusting to the demands of the labor market. This too will come to an end, and how quickly that end comes is directly proportional to the effort you put into learning where you best fit into the labor market and refining your application to do so”- Penelope

PoliticsThe Plot Against Jega-a Great Concern by oshoademola1(op): 2:56pm On Feb 08, 2015
The plot against Sanusi Lamido keeps ringing in my memory. It has left me without choice but to conclude that our great country requires divine intervention, input of morally sound and courageous people. "They" forced him out of the office by placing him on suspension. He could not return to the office and they subjected him to ridicule by intercepting him at the airport and collected his international passport.

I want to believe they are not plotting the same thing for Jega.He is leaving by 3rd of June,2015.I hope they will not send him on forceful suspension before 28th?I hope they will not extend the date again?

Please, tell everyone in this move to consider the future of this great nation Nigeria and the future of their children too.

I am not saying the security proposal is not a convincing point, but it should NEVER result in manipulations.

People took the change in good faith but they should never allow it result in second "Occupy Nigeria"

There is nothing we can do about the postponement. We can only ensure "No Extension Rule" after the 6 weeks as demanded by the 16 RECs.
PoliticsINEC States Condition For Postponement by oshoademola1(op): 8:56pm On Feb 07, 2015
The meeting between the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, and the nation’s resident electoral commissioners has ended in a deadlock, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

The deadlock follows the rejection of the proposal to shift the elections by 21 RECs who insisted that election must go on as planned.
However, the RECs have agreed to support the poll shift on two conditions. Firstly that Mr. Jega must extract commitment from the Presidency and security agencies that further extension will not be required after six weeks.
“RECs need a guarantee that there will not be further postponement after the six weeks they are demanding,” our source said.
He also said the second condition was that the commission should be allowed to decide how long the postponement should last.
“The feeling is that outside forces, especially the security agencies, should not be the ones to decide how long to shift the elections. That should be solely decided by INEC,” he said.
To this end, it was agreed that Mr. Jega should consult with the presidency and security agencies, after which another meeting will hold by 8pm.

“The Chairman will then brief the RECs on the outcome of his consultations,” our said.
INEC has all day been holding consultative meetings with political parties, civil society organisations and the RECs with a view to taking decision on whether to or not postpone the general elections scheduled for February 14 and 28.

The best thing is that do not let it happen.HR specialists know how to tag your job hazard as "NOT FIT FOR THE JOB".and even if you are called back and all arrears paid, the moment of no payment could be frustrating.Smith saw hell. The wife gave birth during this time.

Though,he reapplied for Regional Sales Manager after 2years called for interview with just 2people but was not selected because he did not have knowledge of South South. However,he got recommendation from his colleague for another company where he is working now.

Signature is a powerful tool in decision making. It is an identity and signifies approval by the owner. It is worth protecting and jealously guided. Do not compromise your signature or sign- on.

Let us learn from Smith.

Smith visited a friend in Jalingo, the Capital of Taraba State. It was 2 weeks to his National Youth Service Corps Pass Out Parade. He saw a Punch Newspaper and flipped through it. A major Oil and Gas company wanted to change her Core Application and the CEO explained the process of transition in the newspaper. Smith had knowledge of the Application and decided to write about it. He submitted his CV with the write- up to the Head, Human Resources of the company.

Smith was scheduled for aptitude test by the Oil and Gas Company on a Friday. He prepared for the test as if his whole life depended on it. On the Friday morning, he woke up with a very serious headache but managed to get to the company. There were 15 people for the test. The Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) explained to them the pattern of the questions and the policy of 60% as a pass mark. They started the test. It was a paper based test. The test result was out after 45minutes. Smith scored 56%.It was below the 60% pass mark policy. The headache became severe. He became dizzy so he decided to wait at the reception for a moment. He fell into deep sleep. The HRBP tapped him on the shoulder. Where are others? She asked. I do not know, Smith responded. The company is starting a new subsidiary and required immediate deployment of new staff, are you interested? She said .I did not meet 60% pass mark, Smith answered. We will work it out. Report here tomorrow morning. She enthused. Smith became strong again. Headache was gone.

Smith was posted to Finance Department (Account Payable), though, he studied Statistics. He was to report to Collins, the unit head. Collins was transferred from a subsidiary to oversee account payable Unit. Collins was fun to be with. Hard working, always working late and most times work on weekends. Smith’s table was beside Collins’. Collins enquired from Smith about his family, school and other private life including the church he attended. Smith discovered they attended the same denomination. Their relationship became deeper.

The company had deployed Oracle. All transactions were concluded on the computer system. All document processed carried the processor’s name, e- signature and user id. So, all transactions and documents can be traced to the initiator or authoriser.

Smith learnt very fast on the job. He simplified the processes. He reduced the suppliers’ waiting time including foreign vendors; when documents were processed before the due date, he sent mail to vendors for follow up. He became the man of the people. The company closes by 5 pm and over time including weekends attracted extra bucks. Smith joined the crew; he worked late and sometimes, worked on weekends.

He noticed that Collins hid some documents in cabinets far away from their tables. Payments were being delayed to vendors. The vendors lobbied to get paid and if for any reason a manager or vendor raised query on any file, Collins would instruct Smith not to talk.

Smith got to the office on a Monday morning, his table had been moved to the extreme, very far away from Collins’. He never mind, at least it did not affect his work; and more so, that he was independent except for authorisation and this was done electronically.

Smith initiated a payment of N800, 000,000 plus to a vendor in India. The vendor called the group head, finance that the money was processed twice. The investigation started. The first document initiated by Smith carried his name, user id, and e-signature. The document for the second payment only carried his name. No user id and e-signature. The head of operations and some other top management staff vouched for Smith’s integrity and claimed it was an error. Smith was pardoned.

Smith was to process a document sent from the company’s branch in Port Harcourt. The percentage for processing the document was 6% but the document submitted to him for payment carried 15%.He approached Collins for clarification. Collins said the company had changed it to 15%.Collins collected the document and signed off with a red pen. Smith initiated the transaction on the system. The money was paid.

At about 10 am the following morning, the group heads- finance, human resources, marketing and operations came into Smith’s office. They came with the print out copy of the transaction. They asked who processed the payment, he admitted he did. He showed them the hard copy signed by Collins.

The human resources department set up disciplinary committee (DC) and sent invitation to Smith and Collins separately. Collins attended the DC and denied he had knowledge of the payment. Smith attended the DC and presented the document signed by Collins. The DC invited both Smith and Collins.

Smith was rest assured that Collins attended the same denomination with him and that he would prove he was innocent. Unfortunately, Collins denied Smith. Collins said he did not sign any document. He demanded that he signs his signature on a paper. Collins signature was different from the one he signed with the red pen. He only signed his initial which could be easily forged by anyone. The signature on his identity card also confirmed this. Heaven was let loosed!

The ability of the Head of Operations to prove Smith’s innocence proved abortive. Smith was asked to resign. He did resign. That marked the end of Smith’s career in the company.

After about a year, the truth was revealed. Collins initiated a payment that went bad. It was discovered that Collins had been working with a “CABAL” that comprised top management staff. They saw Smith as a threat, he was gullible and he became the victim.

The Bottom-Line

 Team building is a good thing, but check the trust level day in day out.

 Never disclose your sign- on to anyone. Guide your password very well

 Check all documents very well before attesting your signature.

 Let change in organisation’s policy be communicated to you via mail or standard means of communication adopted by the organisation.
 Read, understand and learn to apply your organisation’s policy.

 Understand your line of communication.

 Clearly define and understand your processes.

 Check the conformity of signature signed by your colleagues or supervisors before relying on them

Ask questions or seek help outside your confined unit if need be-

 Never ignore any grapevine .Vet it and choose that which is applicable. People who Collins had worked with in the past had try to warn Smith but he thought it was grapevine.

 Know the red flag of your work or processes and act fast against such occurrence. Never mind to whistle blow when need arises.

When I was a boy, I hear people say that love supersedes everything. They said love covers all sins. The Christians said God is love and buttressed it with the popular quote “for God so love the world….”.The Muslim family also believe that God loves them, Traditionalists believe in their deities to protect and provide for their needs.

At a point in my life, I sat down and asked myself if love truly exist especially in Africa. You might say I’m wrong about my opinion but I will prove my submission with a true life story of a friend, who worked with a big shot financial institution in Nigeria.

“I worked with a financial institution some time ago as a cashier. At about 3:30pm when everyone would feel tired, a frequent depositor with our branch entered with over N2,000,000 to deposit. The money usually come in lower denominations due to the nature of his business. The customer filled the deposit slip with a wrong account details but similar to the actual account detail i.e. the account number supplied generated a name like Rachael Company Ltd instead of Racheal Company limited.

The money was posted and authorised! There comes the bombshell! The depositor came back the following day. I checked the account number, it was different from the number filled on the teller. I started blabbing, check the other account number I beckoned to a colleague. Alas, the whole money had been withdrawn before 9am by the owner of Rachael Company Ltd in Sapele, Edo State.

I contacted my supervisor and narrated the story. She looked to the computer system and got the ‘lucky winner’s phone number as I call him. She called him and begged for refund. “I only borrowed the money, I will return it” he enthused. The branch manager, Head of Operations and other relationship managers visited him, the statement was “I only borrow the money, I will return it”.

The ‘Lucky Winner’ who understood the weakness of some Nigeria banks on legal issues approached his lawyer on legal defence. The lawyer sued the bank for breach of duty of secrecy and demanded damages of over N 10,000,000 . The money was gone forever.

The bank called for disciplinary committee to investigate the matter. They came up with recommendation that there was no fraud collaboration but job hazard. They demanded the repayment and booked the N2,000,000 plus as a loan.

I strongly believe the ‘Lucky man’ would say he was smart. He never considered the pain and suffering of the poor boy whose salary was not up to N70,000.”

I was touched by the tears of the poor boy and I asked again, where is the LOVE?

Christianity EtcHe Acted Wickedly Against His Brother by oshoademola1(op): 3:15pm On Jan 30, 2015

Science/TechnologyHackers Claimed Responsibility For Facebook Outage by oshoademola1(op): 4:21pm On Jan 27, 2015
At about 12:10 a.m. this morning, Facebook and Instagram went down, leaving millions of users around the world unable to update their status or post pictures

Visitors to Facebook were greeted with a blank page this morning, while those on the app could not refresh their newsfeeds. Instagram (which is owned by Facebook) and Tinder (which relies on Facebook user data) were also inaccessible.

The outage affected a large portion of the United States, according to downdetector.com. Users across Asia, Australia and New Zealand also reported having trouble logging on. People quickly took to Twitter and the outage quickly spawned a hashtag, #facebookdown.

Lizard Squad, a group notorious for attention-seeking antics online, who claimed it had defaced the Malaysia Airlines website and would release data from the airline, also claimed responsibility on Twitter for the Facebook outages. Its previous hacking claims have been mostly aimed at gaming or media companies.

Facebook was quick to deny any hack, saying that said the disruption was caused by a technical change and wasn't a cyber-attack. "This was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems," its statement said.

The temporary loss of service may be Facebook's biggest outage since Sept. 24, 2010, when it was down for about 2.5 hours.

In the new year of 2013,"Jo na tan",made me go "hungered" and without basic facilities to run my days.It was in the name of fuel subsidy and the pump price of premium motor spirit jacked up to 100+ plus about 24% increment and Nigerians jumped to the street.it was later reduced to #97, when lives had been lost including the innocent boy that was shot in Agege,Lagos. In 2013- 2014,the government gave out over #25 billion as subsidy without adequate vetting of the claims to Otedola and co.In the same vein, $20 billion was missing and Lamido, who whistle blew was witch hunted.
Just about few days to election, Gej approves 10% reduction in fuel price while the plump in crude oil price is 50%.
I clamour for change and right now....I have decided.
