The "end of the age" or "end of the world" Jesus was talking about in this verse was the age in which the people he was talking to were living at that time. He was not talking about some far off event that was beyond the lifetime of the immediate disciples. Though, he made reference to the end of the world (as you understood it) in chapter 25.

Mind you, end of the world was also used in some other Bible verses: Psalm 19:4; Isaiah 23:17, Isaiah 62:11, amongst others.
