Hardtalk:Those cars are die hard. One panel beater just finished work on one here, the car is back. |
Hardtalk:How will they be open, when they are always engulfed in corrupt acts? |
I am tired of news about Nuhu Ribadu, and El-Rufai. |
redsun:Indeed, but the case in Nigeria is different. |
lastpage:You no serious oh! ![]() |
Enjoyment1:What a response! It has been long I heard that Yoruba word, "Gbegele" . |
Court stops Fashola's probe the second time. |
Our-turn:I think the guy posted his comment first, before he later thought about it. |
fender:There is no wrong in one showing emotion or sympathy at any issue. In fact, it is emotion that you are showing, by saying you will throw him into fire. So, no one is talking crap, but expressing emotion or sympathy, depending on what he/she feels. |
@ Lastpage; What kind of Ribadus summary/judgement is this? Are you a relative of Justice Marcel Awokulehin? As a poster earlier said, which side of your pocket did you remove your summary/judgement from? My guy, my advice for you is that, based on your username, always try to take a neutral stand. Always put all the merits and demerits on the table, and let people choose, failure to take to this advice, please drop the username. |
indie22:Dear, take it easy. People need to learn how to argue on a forum. Retreating to insult does not portray a person to be well brought up. People need to be cautious about their comments. |
naijamini:I can see that we are beginning to find a common ground. At least, it is not as if one manufacture stories, but these things are real. On my part, I find it very hard to praise anyone that is doing anything positive. I may succumb if he leaves office, and nothing trails him/her later. That does not make me a pessimist, but the reality is not encouraging. Until a man will stand on his ground, and get it right or say almost right, and no controversy or power drunk or selective method is attached to him, he may never get me 100% in Nigeria. |
indie22:I am reliably informed that, toll is one of the characteristics of a mega-city .Down to earth, I am not against them anyway, but this is Nigeria, and Lagos to be precise. I want to see this money(ies) being collected, genuinely for a job well done. What I mean is that, If a project is worth N235m per kilometer, do not make it N1billion and now create 3 tolls. Why not construct the road with the original figure, and make the toll gate one. So long it is Lagos, whoever invested there, will make his or her money. In stead of inflating it to like say N60billion and still giving it out for 30 years perhaps, with 3 toll gates. This is ridiculous! Abeg, submit yourself for probe jare!. |
Kobojunkie:Do you know why I like you, you say it the way it is. The same way Ribadu could not. Maybe because Ribadu was working for OBJ. As for Fashola, I still say it, he is having a nice time in Lagos. Fashola, carry go jare! |
Kobojunkie:You mean you are one of Fashola's supporters? Thats very interesting! ![]() The man is really trying, is just that, he beginning to get noticed, in the artistry of stealing. Anyway, as a poster said earlier, so long he is trying, let him continue. At least, he is better than Obanikoro. It is Fashola's turn jare! |
naijamini:See, lets get something right here. Ribadu might not be as bad as Mustapha, but there is a thin line separating both. In as much as the punishment that will meted out to Mustapha might even be death by hanging, Ribadu does not deserve all the praises. Until you admit that, Ribadu was a product of a government machinery to intimidate opposition, and scare away potential political contenders, then you will not be a fair judge. Can you tell us all that happened a couple of weeks before PDP primaries that gave birth to Yar'Adua? Please state it in toto, all that happened and Ribadu's role that brought about Yar'Adua?. What you and others fail to know here is that, Nigeria and Nigerians of today, are no longer fools. We now have retentive memory, and we store them as they come. Our only problem now is that, we need government and the private sector to empower us, so that these politicians will stop blinding our eyes with a few Naira notes, before elections, and for us to have a very credible election(s). That is the problem of Nigerians currently, and not all these you are saying here. |
naijamini:Obviously, another Ribadu worshipper. In clear terms, what did Mustapha do, that Ribadu did not (apart from blood shed, which is still alleged, until proven by the court of law)? Yes, he collected $15million and later deposited it at CBN, did he mention how many days/months passed by, before he brought to our notice the $15million issue? Was he not contemplating keeping the money, during the said period? Why did he not mention the money issue in the case filed against Ibori at inception (because he collected the cash many months before Ibori was arrested at Kwara state government lodge). Afterall, this money was given to Ribadu at Andy Uba's house as he claim, about 7 months before it came to public knowledge. What happened during this said period? Ribadu moves about in a bullet car (jeep), even as a Police officer. How much is his salary even till date? If the car was not an official vehicle, how much is/was Ribadu's entitlement if he was assumed to have been, that would have bought him a bullet proof car. Please note, he claimed he bought it, and not a gift. Please leave issues, because all Nigerian politicians and Senior civil and public servants are thieves, waiting for their turns to loot. He risked his life to empower his pocket, whatever he later attained as success as you claim was just additional. |
Ibori is not the greatest thief in Nigeria, so why is all these happening to this man? I am sympathising with him, but jettison corruption in its entirety. Every man is responsible for his action, Shekinah!. |
Our-turn:Fashola's supporters are everywhere. Even NAIRALAND is a strong supporter of FASHOLA, that is why they have refused to add this thread to their HOME PAGE!. |
oyb:What is it that Mustapha did, that Ribadu has not done? Start talking!. |
selingel:Some of these claims really require verification, and if true, let justice take its full course. |
Pride goes before a fall. What is wrong in apologising properly, and earning your rank back, and perhaps, a retirement? Anyway, like Obasanjo, like Ribadu. |
Former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, has written to the police authorities, pleading that his dismissal be reversed and his rank as Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) be restored. He did last week in a letter of apology he sent to the Police Service Commission (PSC), wherein he recalled the circumstances that led to his dismissal from the police and his rank as AIG reduced to that of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). But his letter has been faulted by the PSC which said it was not remorseful at all to warrant his prayers. Ribadu, Sunday Independent learnt at the weekend, wrote the apology letter as one of the conditions given to him by the PSC before it can implement the directive of the presidency to recall and restore his rank. This newspaper had reported exclusively early this month that President Goodluck Jonathan directed the PSC, through the chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Parry Osayande, to restore Ribadu’s rank of AIG as well as reverse his dismissal from the Force to retirement. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ogbonna Onovo was also said to have been notified about the development. But a retired IGP who spoke with Sunday Independent said: “If the President’s directive is true, then the government would have unknowingly institutionalised indiscipline in the Police Force and I can assure you, the directive has the capacity of opening a floodgate of complaints where the Ribadu saga would be cited.” Following the agitation and criticism which greeted the presidential order, the PSC was said to have approached the presidency to explain the implication of carrying out its directive wholesale. In the process, it was agreed that Ribadu should be made to write a formal letter of apology to the Commission, explaining how remorseful he was and pleading for consideration in line with the presidential order. But feelers that emerged at the weekend indicated that although Ribadu had sent in his apology letter, the tone was not in line with the expectation of the authorities, hence they may not act on the presidential directive immediately. Board members of the Commission were said to have complained that Ribadu’s letter of apology showed little signs of remorse and that the former EFCC boss devoted more space justifying his action. The members, therefore, concluded that it would not be in the interest of the Force to reverse Ribadu’s dismissal and reinstate him to the AIG rank when the Commission will not justify its action. Although members of the PSC board met on Thursday to deliberate on the apology letter, Sunday Independent learnt on good authority that another meeting has been slated for tomorrow (Monday) where a final decision on the issue would be taken. It was learnt that if the PSC board members decide to give Ribadu a save landing on Monday, it would be based on feelers that President Jonathan had pleaded with them on his behalf. Sources said that President Jonathan is under intense pressure from the United States over Ribadu and would stop at nothing to ensure he gets a fair deal– at least compulsory retirement from the Force. In directing that Ribadu’s rank be restored early this month, the President also sought for his full benefits to be given to him. Unconfirmed sources said President Jonathan was considering Ribadu for the chairmanship of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Ribadu was sacked from the Nigeria Police on December 23, 2008, following indictment over acts of insubordination by a panel headed by the current IGP, Onovo, who was then a DIG. Ribadu had earlier been demoted from the rank of AIG to that of DCP, but he refused to wear police uniform bearing the rank of a DCP and also refused to report for duty at his new duty post then in Benin. For being recalcitrant, he was re-tried, found wanting and recommended for dismissal. Following the indictment and recommendation for dismissal, the PSC after a marathon meeting acceded to the recommendation and ordered the dismissal of Ribadu. Ribadu, who went on exile after his dismissal was thereafter, charged before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for non-declaration of assets, but had the charges dropped by the government also on the orders of President Jonathan. The spokes person of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, said he was not aware of the apology letter from Ribadu when contacted on Saturday, but Sunday Independent confirmed the existence of such from a highly placed source in the Commission. Ribadu was one of the six police officers nominated and sent on senior executive course at the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos in 2008. While on course, he was demoted to the rank of DCP along with 139 officers, who were believed to have been wrongfully promoted. According to the police statement in which Ribadu’s sack was announced, the act of misconduct levelled against him were improper dressing when he appeared before late President Umaru Yar’Adua on November 13, 2008 with other NIPSS participants, in plain clothes, where others were properly dressed. He was also accused of instituting legal proceedings against the IGP, Attorney General of the Federation and the PSC, at a Federal High Court in Lagos, without proper authority from government. These conducts, the statement added, are prejudicial to discipline, proper administration of the force and unbecoming of an officer, contrary to sections 352 and 367 of the Police Act and against Rules 030402 of the Police Service Rules 2006. The former EFCC boss was also accused of flagrantly disobeying the order and directive of the IGP to report to the Force Headquarters on November 24, 2008 along with his NIPSS course mates, at the completion of their studies. Also, Ribadu was said to have disregarded his posting order and refused to proceed on transfer when he was posted to Zone 5, Benin, as DCP in charge of Administration, since November 21, contrary to sections 349, 348 and 347 of the Police Act. His fortune has however changed following the withdrawal of charges of non-declaration of assets instituted against him by the Federal Government under the leadership of late President Yar’Adua, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, by the President Jonathan-led presidency. Recently, Murtala Sani Adebayo-led tribunal struck out the charges and vacated the warrant of arrest issued by the tribunal on Ribadu last year by its immediate past chairman, Justice Constance Momoh (rtd). Adebayo at the Tribunal sitting stated that the Attorney General of the Federation’s application asking that the charges be withdrawn and struck out was in line with the provisions of section 174 of the 1999 Constitution. He said that aspect of the constitution “no doubt confers extensive powers to Federal Attorney General to withdraw criminal trial. The application is withdrawn and it is hereby struck out.” The tribunal had also in its ruling said that the action of the AGF was in line with Section 24 (1) and section 7 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which it argued, is sufficient ground to strike out the charges as prayed. Counsel to the AGF, Joshua Olatoke had earlier applied for the withdrawal of the matter, based on the powers given to the AGF by the constitution to withdraw any criminal charge against anybody before judgment is entered in the matter. http://independentngonline.com/DailyIndependent/Article.aspx?id=14017 |
babapupa:Even a primary 6 pupil will not ask such a question. Where on earth will a governor or mayor be said to have stolen directly? This is a shame, and totally not acceptable from someone that is supposed to be a learned fellow. |
Guy, instead of engaging in red-herring and other diversionary antics, tell Lagos State Government and Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola to brace up to the challenge of working assiduously in clearing his name, so all those directly or remotely connected with the allegation of corruption and fraud must be probed. After all, this will not be the first government or governor that will come under close scrutiny in Nigeria. It would be recalled that Chief Obafemi Awolowo faced the Coker Commission of Inquiry, the late Owelle of Onitsha, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe appeared before the Watson Commission of Enquiry, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the immediate Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria faced the Senate Committee that probed the activities of PTDF, Chief Bola Ige faced Senate Power Sector Probe, Dr. Olusegun Agagu and Governor Imoke faced the Power Sector probe panel of the House of Representatives, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu faced the Lagos State House of Assembly probe panel and there are so many other similar instance. So, why is Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and Justice Abiru trying to block the course of justice? Some of the above probe panels could go for a kangaroo setting, but atleast one was even organised to serve the purpose. Why is Fashola shutting all doors? |
babapupa:Evidence that TRUE FACE OF LAGOS HAVE STARTED SUBMITTING EVIDENCES, AND MORE IF ALLOWED: Fashola: True face of Lagos presents documents to probe panel By Oziegbe Okoeki Published 28/04/2010 News Rating: A group, True face of Lagos, yesterday asked the Lagos State House of Assembly to hasten its probe of Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) based on its catalogue of allegations. Led by its President Mr. Adeshina Adebayo, members of the group told the Ad-hoc committee of the House set up to investigate the allegations promised to tender all the documentary evidence to backup their claims. Adeshina presented to the committee two documents detailing the contracts awarded by the ministries of Works and Health, maintaining that an account should be properly rendered. He said it was wrong for one company, Deux to get 11 out of 19 contracts which it failed to execute to specification despite the fact that it had collected 50 – 70 per cent down payment. Some of the allegations, like the N250million to NBA, N420m for private security, huge amount spent on beautification and the importation of palm trees from Niger Republic, Adeshina said are moral burden on the government, because the funds could have been expended on more pressing needs of the people. He said the group could not come with more documents for security reasons as they were at different locations due to series of attack on his premises. Although, he said documents for all the allegations cannot be presented, he however promised that he would come with more documents when next he appears before the panel. Quizzed on how he came about the documents, Adeshina said he got them from some patriotic individuals within the state civil service, "which triggered off our action when we were convinced that many of the allegations could stand the test of time". But he refused to disclose who the individuals are. According to him, majority of the issues, has to do with following due process and the House not giving approval for some of the expenditures. Members of the committee were however, not too happy with the presentation as they expected the group to be more forthcoming with facts. According to Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, we want you to prove to Lagosians and Nigerians that these allegations are not baseless because this has actually heated up the polity. The Chairman of the committee who is also the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Ajibayo Adeyeye, advised the group leader to see committee members privately if he has some information he cannot disclose publicly, "as much as possible we want evidences to back up most of these allegations", Adeyeye said. http://thenationonlineng.net/web2/articles/44574/1/Fashola-True-face-of-Lagos-presents-documents-to-probe-panel-/Page1.html |
babapupa:May be I am the only one here that knows that, those allegations have been backed up with evidences, which has made the governor through his supporters, rush back to the court for reaffirmation of the court order stopping the probe. I am also aware that, a person is not guilty until found to be one in the court of law.May be because I did not use the word "alleged", that is why you are confused. Please you can read back, and help attach allege(d), where necessary. Thanks. |
dani1luv:If you dont believe that people like this are everywhere, then your life is not long, becos when you start bending becos of everyone of them that you meet, then, what next? U will break and die!. |
Hardtalk:Please tell this fellow, who seems to be a strange man on planet earth. Stealing in Nigeria, has caught the attention of the world, such that, it might be inculcated in school curriculum. The The acrobatic artistry formula applied in sucking the nation dry, can never be rivalled even by the latest world technology. It will then be a shame for a man to come here, and be expecting a direct steal-and-be-caught case. Well, I may forgive an Alien here, as I said earlier. Perhaps, I am arguing with one. |
babapupa:If indeed you made the above comment, I am disappointed. |
