let me play the role of a type of devils advocate on this thread... Asaba is only the capital of delta state in words, the real capital is Warri, so anything done in Asaba would have a replica in Warri just in case tomorrow Asaba people get their own Anioma State. |
Thank you Laila |
Why Gov Amaechi Bought The $45m Private Jet by Laila Ikeji: 6:54pm The Rivers State Government has confirmed the purchase of a brand new Bombardier Jet for Governor Chibuike Amaechi at a cost of $45million. Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, the Commissioner for Information in reaction to inquiries by P.M.NEWS said “It was paid for two years ago. The reason is for safety. The new aircraft is a much safer one.” She said the old aircraft will be sold. According to a report, Amaechi acquired the brand new Bombardier Global 5000 (N565RS) for his exclusive use. The report criticised Amaechi for going for such luxury ” at time hundreds of thousands of residents in his state are displaced by the worst flooding crisis in the state’s history”. However,Semenitari pointed out that the purchase was made two years ago based on expert advice that the new one is safer. She argued that the Governor duly consulted the Rivers state House of Assembly and the purchase was approved. She said that the state government has not neglected the flood victims. According to the Saharareporters, however, the newly purchased jet left Montreal-Trudeau Airport in Montreal, Quebec to Dakar Yoff International Airport. And then it was delivered to the state government on 7 October 2012. The jet was primarily purchased from Bombardier in Canada for $45.7 million through the Bank of Utah Trustee account. “This is an ungodly act,” said a Port Harcourt-based human rights campaigner. Amaechi was said to have traded off the state’s current Embraer Legacy 600 claiming it was too expensive to maintain. There were also unconfirmed claims that the jet was struck by lightning”. P.M.NEWS recalls that the sale of Rivers’ Dash 8-Q200 aircraft to Cross River State for $6 million. Cross River State government decision to lease the plane to Aero Contractors to undertake commercial flights to and from Obudu airstrip was a source of media war between the State Action Congress of Nigeria,A C N,the State government. The state claimed it sold the plane at 6Million US Dollars, while the Cross Rivers state goverment claimed it bought it at 9Million Dollars. The ACN spokesman,Jerry Needam, asked the state government to come out clean about the actual amount it sold the aircraft. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2012/10/27/amaechi-confirms-buying-45-million-bombardier-jet/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PmNewsNigeria+%28PM+News+Nigeria%29 There is nothing more to be said. |
There is no need joining words with ricky ross - he is living in the world that exists in rivers state government website, 18hours of electricity per day is about less than 5% of Port Harcourt not even rivers state, some of the roads you listed exist only on the billboards that are at one point of the road or the other, come to uniport junction you will see one billboard but the big gulley on the road speaks for itself. AMAECHI it appeared began well but somewhere along the line things are no longer the same. |
passionate88: Mr. Otokx... is it true that the school won't resume untill the new year?... somebody called 2 tell me but I don't want to believe himThere has not been any significant improvement in the security situation in and around the campus, after the death of the 3 people another set of robbers tried to rob the branch of UBA in the university but got involved in a shoot out with JTF who happened to be around. Some were killed and some sustained gunshot wounds and were tracked to a village around the university. However we are hearing some rumors of November but really safety first, this thing ought to be thought out carefully. |
I have contacted you both on hotmail and on gmail plus twitter but no response, you should be business like in your approach not the typical Nigerian that goes on owambe every weekend. |
@ricky ross how many jets did Odili buy and how many have Amaechi bought? |
http://ynaija.com/hurray-gov-amaechi-secures-juicy-pension-for-himself-and-deputy/ Yesterday, May 31, Gov. Rotimi Amaechi signed a bill which would basically ensure that he continues to enjoy the perks of the governor’s office after leaving the office. The bill, which is titled The Rivers State Governor and Deputy Governor Pensions and Fringe Benefits Bill 2012, is the brainchild of the executive and was forwarded from the Governor’s Office to the House of Representative for a speedy passage. Despite protestations from pressure groups in the state, the Rivers State House of Assembly went ahead to pass the bill on the 22nd of May by an overwhelming majority. And the sweetened deal was finalised yesterday with Governor Amaechi’s assent. Consequently, Amaechi and his deputy, Tele Ikuru are entitled upon exit from office to benefits worthy of Wall Street executives, including: 100 per cent of their basic salaries Two choice houses in any area of their choice in Rivers State and Abuja. Three cars, replaceable every three years. 300 per cent funding for any furniture of their choice. 20 per cent funding for utility, 10 per cent funding for entertainment and 10 per cent of same for houses of their choice. Free medical expenses for him and his immediate family. Security details that will include two officials of the State Security Service (SSS), one female officer of the same department and eight police officers for personal and domestic security. Domestic staff including a cook, steward, gardener, and others. All the domestic staff, including drivers shall be pensionable. In addition to the executive perquisites bill, other bills signed into law by the governor on Wednesday include the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Amendment Bill 2012, the Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools’ Board Bill 2012, the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission Amendment Bill 2012 and the Rivers State Water Sector Development Law 2012. |
Ify Angela: dis has turned into an amaechi vs odili whereas d point here is that amaechi bought a jet amidst flood disasters in d state.you are very right, do not mind the AMAECHI apologetics, AMAECHI - a man that sold the jets that odili bought only to buy 2 more of his own, meanwhile floods have reached all the way to ahoada. |
@ricky ross Odili left Rivers State the legacy of gas turbines, the rumuola flyover i think was done in odilis time, the free school bus for children was there too. Amaechi could have done far better than this, no excuse for buying this private jet after selling the ones that Odili acquired, its shameful. The monorail is another shameful legacy Amaechi would leave for us, it is only after he has gone we shall know the debt portfolio of Rivers state. |
When will the likes of OBJ, IBB and the rest of the gang of the infamous 40 thieves be sentenced to 40 years in Gashi prison with hard labor? |
shineureyes: I hope the people of Rivers would be wiser come 2015Don't be too sure about that, currently there is no opposition in Rivers State, they all have joined forces together to finish the resources, the house of assembly, the executive, the judiciary all are together in an unholy trinity and then married of to the opposition in the likes of princewill and that new media kid. |
I am beginning to get tired of civilian rule, these politicians and all of them together armed robbers without conscience. There is something wrong with the democracy as being practiced in Nigeria. |
Things we all know are very very bad in Delta State, Uduaghan is a disgrace to the medical profession and is second to none as the worst governor of all time in delta state but at least the state can boast of at least 4 if not 6 major towns, look at Rivers State, after Port Harcourt nothing left or would you count Bonny that is so far far away. |
Spyker could not have put it any better. |
What a waste of resources, pay that cash to the army and navy to guard the pipelines as an extra cash and see the efficacy of the action. |
ofiladee: Is like almost all the south south sataes cannot justify all the funds put in their state. Delta is a mess, Bayelsa is trying to recover, now Rivers state buys a Jet. This is just sooo bad. May God help us.my dear its a great pity i'm so ashamed to be from the south south, IBORI with all the thief thief is still many years ahead of the likes of Uduaghan, Amaechi and that chap in Bayelsa. |
Not one of the people that owns private jets in Nigerian worked any harder, if they are not pastors that used their congregation money, they are friends to politicians who used their friendship to get contracts, if they are not in the last 2 categories then they are definitely politicians who have been looting Nigeria's money. |
the sharp guy is getting ready for December na. |
The federal government should do something about all this private jets by increasing taxes on them and also ensuring they pay very high landing/parking fees even higher that what commercial planes like Aero and Arik pay. |
https://www.nairaland.com/1084968/ASUU-threatens-another-strike-rivers#12703684 ASUU national wants to strike again because of the crisis in the rivers state university which is remotely linked to AMAECHI. |
I am not here to argue, I am not talking about RSUST in Mile 4, I am talking about the new one under construction in Greater PHC. Show us pic of any of the primary or secondary schools under lock/keys? This is the website of Greater ph city where you will find all ongoing projects including the university and hospitals i was referring to: http://www.gphcity.com/projects/index.php?projectid=8 Again, I want you to tell me which governor in Nigeria that has built better primary/secondary schools than Amechi. All primary schools in Rivers state are fully air conditioned, standard labs, private computer per student, basketbal/volleyball court etc. There is no school under locks in rivers state, the best public primary/secondary schools in Nigeria are in rivers state. Finally I once again will say Amechi is sleeping during this second term, but saying he hasn't tried is rubbish. If you center your judgement on flooding then someone like fashola has failed as well
Amaechi wants to relocate the University from where it is now to the greater port harcourt area but the vast majority of rivers people do not see the merit of the relocation as the costs involved will be too much for a thousand generations. The pictures on the website are what they are pictures and not in fact any reality. The school he did in the Choba area is under lock and key and so many others, there is no point air conditioning a school when there is no light, football fields with tracks would have been better than those miniature volley and basket ball scams. There is a modal health center down the road where i stay but due to the bad road that is largely inaccessible very few if any person goes there from this axis. As i type its raining cats and dogs in PH so you can imagine the suffering that is going to befall us.Let us be truthful, this is 2012, how many of those wonderful projects is AMAECHI going to complete before he leaves office? Even the ones he thought he has completed aka rumuokuta - choba road is already in a state of disrepair at many points. If you have direct access to AMAECHI please tell him to wake up and match his PR photo shoots with concrete actions - ditto for all other politicians. |
Mr Ricky Ross, my area of Port Harcourt has not had any light since 4pm yesterday, not even a blink, the road in front of my house is a disaster to say the very least notwithstanding the last 2 days of intense sunshine, the rivers on the roads are practically intact. The greater Port Harcourt you talk of may turn out to be the very nemesis of AMAECHI, apart from the uncompleted stadium and uncompleted access roads there is not much to show for it. Which secondary and primary schools are you talking of? Oh yes he completed some schools, renovated them with micro basket ball courts but ever since they have been largely under lock and key. Did you stop to ask what or where the students of those schools would be now. Oh yes again he claims he wants to give them to Indians to run so until then the students should be at home shey. A lot of Nigerians are ok with mediocrity and for them 15% would be a solid pass, that is why we are in the mess we are. Mr Ricky Ross did you hear of the people that died in the camps opened for flooded victims. They died of sickness that could have been prevented. Did you say world class university? RSUST has been closed for a very long time - probably the longest for any university in Nigeria in the last 2 years till the point other universities have to go on sympathy strike to tell the world the evil going on there where AMAECHI is hell bent on imposing his own VC on the people. Which world class hospital are you talking about? The last i checked the best hospital still remains the federal owned University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital so which one are you referring to or is it the renovated dental clinic on Aba road? |
Government magic. |
OBJ should be tried for corrupt practices and jailed accordingly, this guy ruined Nigeria is so many ways. |
Our politicians should be restricted to only 1 term in office of 3 years as they do not do anything in the 2nd tenure, come to Port Harcourt, no road, no road, no road, no light, no light no light, traffic jam, traffic jam, traffic jam, big wide craters on the road, its terrible. Even the few good roads not up to 2 years and not still completed are already riddled with enough pot holes. |
Government magic dem go dabaru everything. |
abdulkayus: I can some ppl displayin their inherent hatred to anytin north here. Anytin frm d north dey term it aboki and islam, nt 4gettin dat there are over 100 tribes in d north and ppl there jus speak hausa as a unifyin language, some ppl in d north dont even understand hausa ma self. This unwholesome practice is very nauseating to say the least. |
stshakes: Too bad... I hear he was trained as a pilot and sometimes, he even flies himself to America... What's a shame! Maybe a faulty plane!!!no be only America, even sef he dey reach Moon. |
