Presided over by Justice Jude Obiora, the court ruled that the defendant was medically unfit to take his plea, leading to the postponement of proceedings. Before the court session, there was a disagreement over the defendant’s health between the prosecution, led by Tobechukwu Nweke, and defence counsel, Kingsley Awuka. Following the hearing: The prosecution affirmed the state government’s readiness to proceed with the case. The defence expressed optimism that the defendant would be fit to stand trial on the next adjourned date. The accused was initially arrested on March 12, 2026, in Nnewi and is being prosecuted under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZJhwW7PynA?si=E3_-86sjteyjOriw "Nigeria Elections Overly Judicialized"- Bauchi COPDEM Chair, Prof. Edeghagba Eghosa Elijah During Wednesday’s edition of the morning show on Diaspora Digital Media, Edeghagba Eghosa Elijah, Chairman of COPDEM in Bauchi State, stated that Nigeria’s electoral process has become “overly judicialized,” with election outcomes increasingly determined in the courts rather than at the ballot box. Speaking on the theme “Nigeria’s Upcoming 2027 Elections: Current Political Intrigues, Alignment and Expectations,” he expressed concern that the growing reliance on litigation is undermining public confidence in democratic institutions. According to him, the trend reflects deeper structural issues within the electoral system, where disputes that should be resolved transparently during the voting process are instead prolonged through legal battles. He emphasized the need for reforms that would strengthen electoral credibility, reduce post-election disputes, and ensure that the will of voters is more clearly reflected in final outcomes as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyBRJqB84Lw?si=YjZbTJan5wYQueOB Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has weighed in on the renewed push for the creation of Anioma State. He spoke on Wednesday during a consultation meeting with party stakeholders in Oshimili South Local Government Area, an engagement that also forms part of his political outreach ahead of a possible Senate bid. At the meeting, Okowa reaffirmed his support for the creation of Anioma State but stressed that the process must reflect the collective will of the people across the nine local government areas of Delta North. While aligning with the broader aspiration, he subtly questioned the approach and motives of Ned Nwoko, who has recently taken a leading role in championing the proposal. Okowa warned against turning the issue into a political tool, emphasizing that the legitimacy of the demand should come from genuine grassroots consensus rather than individual ambition. The agitation for Anioma State—strongly backed by Nwoko—stems from longstanding demands by people of Delta North seeking greater administrative autonomy and fairer representation within Nigeria’s federal structure. Supporters argue that a new state would address perceived marginalization, enhance governance, and drive development in the region. |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_y4sHjauTg?si=Knvdw5YYGDQVLxNu Tinubu Hits Back at Critics, Links Power Sector Failures to Previous Regimes Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly criticized opposition figures over the state of electricity privatization in Nigeria, blaming current power sector challenges on decisions made by previous administrations. He made the remarks on Wednesday while hosting a delegation of Enugu State stakeholders, led by Peter Mbah, at the State House. During the meeting, the President argued that those who supervised the privatization process failed to deliver the expected improvements, leaving the country with ongoing electricity supply problems. Tinubu stated that his administration is now focused on correcting these shortcomings through reforms aimed at stabilizing and boosting power generation and distribution nationwide. He also questioned the credibility of some opposition leaders, suggesting their criticisms are inconsistent given their past involvement in shaping the sector’s current condition. The President urged stakeholders and Nigerians to stay focused on efforts to rebuild the country’s power infrastructure and drive national development, rather than being distracted by opposing narratives. |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yAk9MWKMz4?si=qRhZFn3YOaMlw6Lk Youths across Kenya have taken to the streets in renewed protests over rising fuel prices, as the worsening cost-of-living crisis continues to trigger public discontent. The demonstrations, concentrated in parts of Nairobi and other regions, were largely mobilised online under the hashtag #RejectFuelPrices. The protests began on Tuesday, April 21, with a heavy security presence deployed in the capital ahead of the gatherings. Authorities had earlier declared the demonstrations unlawful, citing failure to provide formal notification, raising concerns about possible clashes. Despite the warnings, groups of protesters assembled in central Nairobi and surrounding areas, with reports of arrests and efforts by security forces to disperse the crowds. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yGHtFgTX0g?si=0OWvoI3KHfg6idx6 On Monday’s morning show on Diaspora Digital Media TV, Simon Elisha—COPDEM Kaduna Secretary and Special Adviser to the Jemaa LG Chairman—unpacked his striking claim that Wike’s camp has already secured “90% power absolution” ahead of the Supreme Court ruling. In a wide-ranging discussion, he connected the dots between internal party battles, the role of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the broader political realignments shaping the road to the 2027 elections. Elisha argued that what is playing out in the courts is only one layer of a deeper struggle for control, influence, and legitimacy within Nigeria’s political system—suggesting that by the time the Supreme Court speaks, much of the real power may have already shifted behind the scenes. “Wike Camp Gains 90% Power Absolution Pre-Supreme Court” — COPDEM Kaduna Sec., Jemaa LG SA, Elisha |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT9rSAAN45Q?si=LdNED4vlldVkwnfr ADC Gives Tinubu Headaches as President Suddenly ‘Ready for Governance’ After 3 Years With the 2027 elections drawing closer, something interesting is happening. For the first time in a while, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is openly taking shots at the opposition—especially the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The President opened with strong, almost poetic words: “I am inspired. I am ready. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to break poverty and ignorance.” Sounds powerful… but here’s the issue. He says he is inspired. The opposition believes that inspiration may not be about Nigerians—but about political support, especially from governors aligning with his camp. Then comes the big one—“I am ready.” Ready? After three years in office? Nigerians are asking: Ready for what exactly—and why now? Because from insecurity to economic hardship, many feel this “readiness” is coming a bit late… just as elections are around the corner. Next, he calls this moment “an opportunity of a lifetime” to fight poverty and ignorance. But hold on—didn’t that opportunity start in 2023 when he took office? Why does it sound like the job just began yesterday? Even global institutions like the World Bank have raised concerns about rising poverty levels. And interestingly, under former President Goodluck Jonathan, poverty rates were lower—something many critics are quick to point out. Then comes the most ironic part. The President says he wants to protect democracy—but warns against “noise-making” and “rascality,” clearly aimed at the ADC. Now here’s where it gets a bit funny. Democracy is supposed to be noisy. Opposition parties are meant to talk, challenge, and even disturb the system—that’s how balance is created. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwyB4wHAv84?si=-cB24Y6xHdnmQrPv A South African court has sentenced Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), to five years’ imprisonment for discharging a firearm during a political rally in 2018. The judgment, delivered by a magistrate’s court in the Eastern Cape, follows his conviction on multiple counts, including unlawful possession of a firearm and the discharge of a weapon in a public space. The case stems from a widely circulated video showing Malema firing a rifle into the air at a party event—an act the court ruled to be in clear violation of South Africa’s firearm regulations. Malema, a high-profile and often controversial political figure, had pleaded not guilty, arguing that the weapon in question was not a real firearm. The court, however, dismissed this defence. Shortly after the ruling, his legal team filed an application for leave to appeal, indicating that the legal process is ongoing. If the conviction and sentence are upheld on appeal, the implications could be significant. Under South African law, individuals sentenced to more than 12 months’ imprisonment are disqualified from serving in parliament—raising the prospect of Malema losing his legislative seat and potentially impacting the political strength of the EFF. |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmFzKE6GIwc?si=2jrpPC4-v3oR2QQd Obi, Soludo: Tough on Lazy Workers—But Obi Delivers the Shock Treatment (Analysis) Both Chukwuma Soludo and Peter Obi have demonstrated firm, no-nonsense leadership, particularly in the areas of education and security. A widely circulated 2013 video captures Obi, then governor, confronting teachers who arrived at school as late as 9 a.m. He expressed clear displeasure, emphasizing that such conduct was unacceptable and noting that they were fortunate a bishop—someone inclined toward forgiveness—was present. He further stated that, under his administration, such an infraction could have resulted in immediate dismissal. The incident came to define Obi’s leadership style: direct, uncompromising, and firmly rooted in discipline. In a similar vein, Soludo has recently exhibited comparable resolve. In a viral video, he is seen making an unannounced visit to government offices, where he held workers accountable for lapses in duty. Like Obi, he underscores the importance of enforcing standards rather than merely articulating them. However, while Soludo reportedly considered suspending the erring workers for the remainder of the year, Obi’s instinct during his tenure leaned toward outright dismissal, highlighting a difference in the severity of their respective approaches. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUYhN1MhlMI?si=6c6g0qUzZPJdXXHu Is the Catholic pope still infallible in moral matters? It is no longer news that Trump has made a post on Truth Social to malign the Pontiff over the latter's condemnation of his war on Iran. Trump, by his post, is setting Catholics against one another. First, by saying Pope Leo wouldn't be Pope if he were not president, Trump is simply stating that the emergence of the Catholic Pontif is 100% political, nothing spiritual or divine about it. Second, Trump, by his rhetoric, has created a conflict of interests for many Catholics! Therefore, pro-Trump catholics are stuck in a dilemma: On one hand, they feel obliged to religiously align with the authority of the highly centralised structure of the Catholic Church, especially on moral matters. On the other hand, these Catholics and Christians have developed Schadenfreude with Trump's war on Iran . Schadenfreude is a feeling of pleasure you get when bad things happen to other people. In this context, these Catholics see trump as a Messiah sent by God to destroy their supposed enemies in Islam. In earnest, Schadenfreude came to life when Trump struck Iran on February 28th. Schadenfreude continues to happen each moment Trump makes an inflammatory comment on Truth Social. The implication of this is an intense dilemma where Christians, especially Catholics suffer psychological imbalance over whom to follow: the President of the most powerful country of the world who promises protection of global Christians or the head of the most populous Christian denomination. I leave you to ponder over it. |
