A Federal High Court in Abuja has delivered a landmark judgment in the case of the deadly 2022 attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church, sentencing four men to death by hanging after finding them guilty of terrorism-related offences. The court held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convicts were involved in the massacre that claimed the lives of more than 40 worshippers during a church service. While four defendants were convicted on multiple counts, including terrorism, conspiracy, and murder, a fifth accused person was discharged and acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The ruling marks a major development in one of Nigeria's most shocking and devastating terror attacks in recent years.

Odinkalu Slams Mbaka Over Call for Release of Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren

Human rights lawyer and public affairs commentator, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has criticized Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka over his appeal for the release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted by bandits in Oyo State.

In a post on X, Odinkalu questioned Mbaka's moral authority to speak on the issue, accusing the cleric of past political actions whose consequences, he said, are still affecting residents of Imo State. He urged Mbaka to remain silent on the matter.

Mbaka had earlier called on the Federal Government, security agencies, and the kidnappers to ensure the safe and immediate release of the victims. He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intensify rescue efforts and urged the abductors to free the children and teachers unharmed.

The exchange comes amid widespread concern over the Oyo abduction, which has sparked national outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against insecurity across the country.

Someone shd please tell this Ejike Whatever to shut up. The people of Imo State are still living with the consequences of his corrupt & criminal nonsense.

He unveiled little-known political realities within the region, stressing that Obi must personally engage northern leaders, build relationships at the grassroots, and clearly communicate his positions on key issues.

The outspoken COPDEM chairman also outlined strategic steps he believes could significantly improve Obi’s chances in the region ahead of the 2027 presidential election, offering a rare insider perspective on the political calculations shaping the race for Aso Rock.

PoliticsResidents Protest Decades Of Neglect As Flood Ravages Ogidi Community In Anambra by otrasane(op): 3:48pm On May 25

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwaI4_OlP6c?si=FIgqpaDRG7UaULtx

This video highlights the "22 Years of Flood Horror" in Ogidi, where residents are protesting government neglect, showcasing the devastating impact of the flood. The footage captures the inundated streets and community members vocally expressing their grievances, shedding light on the ongoing struggle against the flood. Additionally, the video features a statement from His Royal Majesty, Dr. Igwe Alexander Uzodinma Onyido, providing further context to the community's plight regarding the flood.

Residents of Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Monday staged a protest against what they described as decades of government neglect after devastating floods triggered by days of heavy rainfall submerged homes, shops and major access roads, leaving residents stranded and economic activities crippled.

The flood disaster, which has reportedly plagued the community for over 22 years, once again brought life to a standstill as overflowing drainage channels and deep ponds sent surging waters across the old road linking Onitsha to Enugu State, obstructing both human and vehicular movement. Angry youths of the community, frustrated by years of suffering and unfulfilled promises, took to the flooded streets to demand urgent intervention from both the Anambra State and Federal Governments.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), which visited the affected area, witnessed scores of distressed residents wading through deep floodwaters while chanting solidarity songs and expressing outrage over what they termed the abandonment of the community by authorities.

Several residents who spoke to DDM said the recurring flood crisis has displaced dozens of families and destroyed properties worth millions of naira over the years. According to them, the flooding is largely caused by the overflow of a massive pit constructed near the affected road as a collection point for runoff water flowing from four neighboring communities — Umudioka, Umunachi, Abatete and Eziowelle.

The residents lamented that despite repeatedly writing to government authorities and proposing possible solutions, their appeals have consistently been ignored.

As the protest gathered momentum, President of Ogidi Youths Nigeria and Diaspora, Chris Obi Okafor, led demonstrators through the flooded community while calling on Governor Chukwuma Soludo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene and save the town from further devastation.

Mr. Okafor accused successive administrations of failing to address the worsening environmental disaster, warning that continued neglect could expose residents to even greater danger during the peak of the rainy season.

The impact of the flooding, residents say, extends beyond ordinary households. The royal palace of the traditional ruler of Ogidi, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Igwe Alexander Uzodinma Onyido, has also been severely affected.

Just a few meters from the palace lies another deep pond believed to contribute significantly to the flooding. Residents disclosed that during heavy rains, the pond frequently overflows into the royal residence and surrounding areas without warning.

In a symbolic move during the protest, Mr. Okafor led demonstrators to the Igwe’s palace where community members emotionally narrated their ordeal to the monarch.

Responding to the protesters, the traditional ruler, who acknowledged being personally affected by the disaster, sympathized with the people and assured them of his commitment to engage relevant government authorities toward finding a lasting solution to the crisis.

Meanwhile, the persistent flooding continues to inflict severe hardship on commuters and motorists using the affected road corridor. Many drivers now avoid the route for fear of plunging into submerged drainages, while others who attempt to navigate the floodwaters often end up stranded in thick mud.

Residents say the situation deteriorates with each passing rainy season, raising fears that worse may still lie ahead.

With the 2026 rainy season fast approaching, many families in Ogidi now live in anxiety and uncertainty, unsure of what tomorrow may bring if urgent action is not taken.

“Open This Gate!” — Drama Erupts as APC Aspirant Pounds Deputy Governor’s Gate During Primaries in Nasarawa

What was supposed to be an APC House of Reps primary election in Nasarawa reportedly turned into a full-blown “hide and seek” competition after one of the aspirants, Hon. Usman Attah, allegedly spent the entire day chasing venues instead of delegates.

Hon. Attah, who contested for the APC ticket for Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency, reportedly arrived at the APC Secretariat with her supporters ready for the primaries — only to meet a firmly locked gate waiting for her like a scene from a comedy skit.

After knocking, asking questions, and probably wondering if she came on the wrong date, she was allegedly informed that the primaries had suddenly relocated to the residence of the Nasarawa State Deputy Governor.

Determined not to miss the exercise, she and her supporters quickly moved to the new venue, only to discover that the second gate was also locked. At that point, what began as a political exercise reportedly started looking more like a treasure hunt.

Eyewitnesses claimed Hon. Attah made repeated efforts to gain entry, but all attempts failed. Frustrated and visibly angry, she reportedly resorted to banging the gate while raising alarm on social media, creating a dramatic scene that has since gone viral online.

Reports further alleged that some selected supporters had allegedly been lodged overnight at the Deputy Governor’s residence and were used for the primaries in favour of preferred candidates backed by powerful political figures in the state.

The incident has since sparked laughter, outrage, and endless jokes online, with many Nigerians sarcastically asking whether the APC primaries were an election or an invitation-only house party.

Meanwhile, Hon. Usman Attah is reportedly fighting to stop the release of the results and is demanding that the primaries be cancelled and conducted again under what she describes as a fair and transparent process.
