SportsMorocco Denies Withdrawing As Host Of The 2015 AFCON by OXYGENO1(op): 8:54pm On Oct 16, 2014
Morocco deny withdrawing as hosts of 2015
Africa Cup of Nations
 October 16, 2014

Africa Cup of Nations
Morocco have denied reports that they
have withdrawn as the host of next year’s
African Cup of Nations because of the
deadly ebola outbreak in west Africa.
However, they do still want the tournament
postponed, forcing a conflict with organisers.
The Confederation of African Football insists
the tournament, to be held between January 17
and February 8, must go ahead as planned.
The ebola virus has claimed more than 4,000
lives since the start of the year, and with
around a million spectators expected to travel
to watch the tournament, Morocco sports
minister Mohamed Ouzzine reiterated the
country’s desire to for a postponement.
“Our concern is the health of Africa, and based
on WHO [World Health Organisation] reports
and guidelines, we have to listen,” he said.
“Zero safety does not exist, but one has to
take the necessary precautions so that the
coming tournament will be a football feast,
bringing together our African brothers, but
given the current ebola situation we don’t
think such a feast can take place as expected.
“I don’t think there is any state or any country
that has the necessary capabilities to monitor,
check and control the current ebola situation
when faced with these numbers. This is our
real problem. We don’t have a problem with
visiting teams, we have a problem with
visitors.”
It is believed at least two other countries have
been asked if they can step in at short-notice if
Morocco refuses to host on the original dates.
One is believed to be South Africa, who hosted
the 2010 World Cup, while Ghana’s sports
minister Mahama Ayariga wrote on his official
Facebook page that they have been
approached.
“CAF wrote to us and indicated that Morocco
had given strong indications they would pull
out if CAF did not change the date,” Ayariga
wrote. “They are writing to a number of
countries that they think have the capacity to
be an alternative venue in the event of
Morocco actually pulling out.”

Nigerians Defecating In Public – UNICEF
More Nigerians defecating in public –
UNICEF

Environment Day Comments 0
Here’s some good news for Nigeria: fewer
people are defecating in public, opting to
use a toilet instead.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that
UNICEF Communication Specialist Geoffery
Njoku revealed this in Abuja on Wednesday as
the world celebrates World Environment Day.
In a statement, Njoku linked the reduction in
public defecation to reduced incidences of
diarrhea.
“Open defecation causes contamination to
water bodies and is a serious threat to public
health, especially during flooding.
“We know that by improving sanitation, we can
improve child survival as well as the
environment,” it said.
Public defecation is a major problem in
Nigeria. A report by the Water and Sanitation
Programme published last year revealed that
nigeria loses n455 billion annually due to
poor sanitation
.
The report also stated that “approximately
121,800 Nigerians, including 87,100 children
under 5, die each year from diarrhea –
nearly 90% of which is directly attributed
to poor water, sanitation and hygiene
(WASH).”
The UNICEF official on Wednesday noticed a
drop in the number of children suffering from
Diarrhea and credits a Community Led Total
Sanitation (CLTS) approach for raising
awareness and improving the sanitation
situation in rural areas.
“CLTS is a process of engaging with the
community members ranging from individuals
to schools and traditional leaders to empower
them to address their sanitation situation by
ending open defecation.
“It is also the use of toilets constructed by
locally available materials.”
The statement reported “more than 4,000 open
defecation-free” communities, with more than
2.5 million people now using toilets. Last year,
the Water and Sanitation Programme reported
that 32 million Nigerians were guilty of public
defecation.
UNICEF hopes with more support from the
government and intensified awareness
programs, more Nigerians will live in open
defecation-free communities.

Cholera outbreak in Nigeria
 November 12, 2013
Apart from the recent outbreak of cholera in
Nigeria that killed three in Lagos and some
others in Zamfara, at least 352 people have
been killed by this infection in a space of three
months and more than 6,400 cases reported
majorly in the North. Doctors are now
monitoring outbreaks in 12 of Nigeria’s 36
states. Nigeria had the first series of cholera
outbreak between 1970- 1990. Despite this
long experience with cholera, an understanding
of the epidemiology of the disease is still
lacking. We therefore hope that this review
provides the knowledge gaps of the infection
with the hope that it will help to develop
targeted approaches to controlling the
infection.
Developed countries have an almost zero
incidence of cholera because they have
widespread water treatment plants, food-
preparation facilities that usually practice
sanitation protocols, and most people have
access to toilets and hand-washing facilities. A
lot of responsibilities in curbing this epidemic
which is killing more of the average citizens of
Nigeria lie with the government. As Nigerians,
we should contribute our own quota to battling
and finally subduing cholera. Cholera is an
acute infectious disease caused by a
bacterium, Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae) which
results in painless diarrhea (the main
symptoms are watery stool and vomiting).
Most people who contact this disease get it
primarily from drinking water or eating food
that has been contaminated by the faeces
(waste product) of an infected person,
including one with no apparent symptoms.
Individuals can prevent or reduce their
chances of contacting cholera by thorough
hand washing, drinking treated water and
eating clean and well prepared food. Most
importantly, it is necessary to introduce
intervention measures that address the root
problems of poor sanitation and unsafe water
supplies in order to fully solve the problem of
cholera. U.N. figures indicate that half of
Nigeria’s 160 million population do not have
safe water and a third do not have proper
sanitation. Although symptoms may be mild,
approximately 5%-10% of previously healthy
people will develop copious diarrhea within
about one to five days after ingesting the
bacteria. It is important that one receives
immediate medical treatment because cholera
can cause death within just a few hours.
Other treatment options for cholera include
rehydration to replace the fluids that are lost
through diarrhea to restore the electrolyte
balance. Oral rehydration salts or ORS can be
mixed with warm water to rehydrate the body.
Severe dehydration may require the
administration of intravenous fluids.
Administering antibiotics is not a necessary
form of treatment; however, this may reduce
the frequency of diarrhea. According to
research, zinc may shorten the duration and
decrease diarrhea in young children.
These treatment measures are majorly first aid.
Patients should be taken to the hospital or
health center for proper and adequate medical
attention.
Above all, the World health Organization
(WHO) recommends that immunization with
currently available cholera vaccines be used in
conjunction with the usually recommended
control measures in cholera endemic areas as
well as areas of risk outbreak. Remember
proper sanitation and drinking of clean and
boiled water prevents cholera infection.

Land mass of lagos is about 3,577square kilometers

Ghana Population: 24 million

Ghana:

- 2nd largest gold producer and exporter in Africa after South Africa.
- World's largest cocoa producer & exporter.
- Oil and gas producer & exporter. Oil reserves of 7 billion barrels.

If Lagos State was the 2nd biggest GOLD exporter in Africa, PLUS No 1 cocoa producer on earth, PLUS an oil and gas producer and exporter, would there be any poverty in Lagos today?

I highly doubt it.

So why is Ghana, with all these resources, mired in poverty and underdevelopment, and are now going cap in hand to IMF and EU for money?

Should we lend them Fashola for a couple of years? He could turn that place into Hong Kong in no time.
See who is talking ....with the over 2million barrels of crude sold each day look at your country.
