PoliticsAmaechi Splits Senate Panel by oyem4u(op): 6:37pm On Oct 16, 2015

•Amaechi

The Senate seems to be finding ministerial
nominee Rotimi Amaechi’s case a hard nut to
crack.

For the umpteenth time, its Committee on Ethics,
Privileges and Public Petitions could not sit to
consider the petition against him, it was learnt
yesterday.

But the panel chairman, Senator Samuel Anyanwu,
said there was no cause for alarm, dismissing
allegations of a crack in their rank.

The panel, sources said, has been unable to write
its report because it could not form a quorum.

It has not been able to sit in the past three days
despite being asked to hasten action on the
petition by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

On Tuesday, Saraki mandated the committee to
ensure that its report was ready for
consideration on Wednesday.

He asked the committee to speed up after
Anyanwu told the Senate that the report was not
ready.

But the panel submitted its report on another
nominee, Amina Mohammed, who was among the
18 cleared on Wednesday. The panel could still not submit its report on
Amaechi on Wednesday, leading to the dropping of
the former Rivers State governor from the list of
those screened.

The panel consequently scheduled a meeting
for 2pm on Wednesday but only Anyanwu and
Senator Obinna Ogba (Ebonyi Central) turned up. The development has increased talks of a division
among members.

Sources said there was a plot to sabotage
Amaechi’s screening by some interested parties
to orchestrate his withdrawal by President
Muhammadu Buhari. A member of the committee, who did not want his
name mentioned, said: “It seems all is not well in
our committee. Some of us are not happy about
certain things. We cannot just go to a meeting for
going sake. But what is happening is not for the
media please, I beg you.”

Another member said: “No comment. I am not
the spokesman of the committee. Go and meet the
chairman if you want any information about the
Ethics Committee.” But Anyanwu, who is worried about the panel’s
inability to submit its report, said he had carried
every member along. The Imo State-born lawmaker said he had
demonstrated “a high level of openness and
transparency in the affairs of the committee”. He insisted that the committee is not facing a crisis. There was no indication of when the committee
will meet to write its report when the Senate
adjourned plenary yesterday.

Saraki also did not mention the petition against
Amaechi at the session. When Amaechi appeared before the committee on
October 12, the petition against him could not be
considered because of his disclosure that it was a
subject of litigation. The Port Harcourt-based “The Integrity Group”
petitioned the Senate asking that Amaechi should
not be confirmed as a minister. The group claimed that Amaechi mismanaged N70
billion of Rivers State funds when he was in office. Amaechi has long dismissed the claim as part of
the orchestrated campaign to smear him. But the Chairman, Senate Ad-hoc Committee on
Media and Public Affairs, Senator Dino Melaye,
yesterday raised hope of Amaechi’s screening.
He said: “ The committee has a one-line report
that the matter is in court and that in compliance
with our laid down rules and regulations, any case that is undergoing judicial remedy cannot be
discussed.

So, we have distanced ourselves from it. The
report will be presented on Tuesday by the grace
of God. “I assure Nigerians that former Governor Rotimi
Amaechi by the grace of God, will be screened on
Tuesday.” According to him, the screening and confirmation
of the remaining 18 ministerial nominees will
hold on Tuesday and Wednesday. Melaye said: “We are going to screen nine of
them on Tuesday and the remaining nine on
Wednesday. “The confirmation of all the nominees will be
taken on Wednesday.” There is another petition against another nominee
– Mrs Aisha Abubakar from Sokoto State. Senator Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East) laid the
petition against Mrs. Abubakar on the table for
consideration. The petitioner’s demanding her replacement
with “a more competent person.” The nominee, according to him, hails from the
same local government with Governor Aminu
Waziri Tambuwal. The Senate referred the petition
to its Ethics Committee. Also yesterday, Saraki wrote President
Muhammadu Buhari on the Senate’s confirmation
of 18 nominees who were on the list sent to the
upper chamber on September 30. In a letter sent through Senator Ita Enang, Senior
Special Assistant to the President on legislative
matters (Senate), Saraki told the President that the
Senate found the 18 nominees worthy to be
ministers as provided for in Section 147 (2) of the
1999 Constitution as amended. The ministers-designate are Senator Udoma Udo
Udoma, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, Chief Audu
Innocent Ogbeh, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr. Osagie
Ehanire, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Danbazzau,
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Hajiya Amina Ibrahim
Mohammed, Suleiman Adamu, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Dr.
Ibe Kachikwu, Abubakar Malami (SAN), Senator
Chris Nwabueze Ngige, Senator Aishat Jummai Al-
Hassan, Mr. Solomon Dalong, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun
and Senator Hadi Sirika.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Federal Government Welcomes US Deployment Of Troops For Cameroon by oyem4u(op): 6:31am On Oct 16, 2015
https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/BUHARI-HH.jpg?49b301

Although Nigeria had requested more direct help in
the fight against insurgency from the United States,
U.S, the Federal Government on Thursday welcomed
Washington’s decision to send up to 300 military
personnel to Cameroon to help the regional fight
against Boko Haram.

Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu
Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu described
the deployment as a “welcome development”
while the military said it was a demonstration of the
needed cooperation against the Islamists terrorists.

Recall that the U.S President, Barack Obama revealed
that 90 personnel had already been sent and the full
contingent would conduct intelligence, surveillance
and reconnaissance operations.

“The United States has given the pledge to support
the fight against Boko Haram in Nigeria and in the
region,” Shehu told AFP by phone, adding that
“This is the fulfilment of that pledge and we are
very happy about it. The United States’ move is
quite commendable.”

On his part, the Military spokesman, Colonel Rabe
Abubakar said: “This is how the fight can be done
collectively with partners cooperating with us to fight
against a common cause — terrorism — which has
been ravaging the region for some time now.

“We appeal to other nations to emulate the good
example of the United States. The United States has
experience in fighting terrorism. “Fighting terrorism is not one nation’s issue.

It requires a global effort. We all need to work
together… to fight this evil,” he stated.

PoliticsAmaechi ‘no Court Order Delaying Ex- governor’s Screening,’ APC Denies reports by oyem4u(op): 9:40pm On Oct 15, 2015
Media reports have it that the said injunction
was obtained by the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) in a bid to delay Amaechi’s
confirmation.

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has denied reports that former governor, Rotimi Amaechi’s ministerial screening is being delayed by a court injunction. Media reports have it that the said injunction was obtained by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a bid to delay Amaechi’s confirmation.

The Rivers APC, via a statement released on Thursday, October 15, 2015, by Chris Finebone, however said that no such order is in existence.

The statement reads: “Following the announcement, we have made frantic search at the Federal High Court across the country and did not find any such proceedings pending or order before any Court in the country, the Federal High Court being the only Court that has jurisdiction to determine any matter in which the Senate is made a party and its duties and functions are the subject matter, in view of Section 251 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”

“Again, because we are aware of the desperation of the PDP and Mr. Livingstone Wechie on this matter, we have nonetheless carried out a search at the High Court Registry in Rivers State, and no indication that such order exists at the High Court of Rivers State, except if such order is given to Mr. Livingstone in the sitting room of a Judge, which we know that no right thinking judicial officer will do so, especially at this time that the National Judicial Council is desirous of sanitizing the Judiciary.”

“Clearly, the State High Court has no powers or jurisdiction under the Constitution to determine a matter in which the subject matter relates to the duties or functions of the Senate."

“The distinguished and Honourable Judges of the Rivers State High Court are fully aware of this Constitutional provision.

We strongly believe that none of them would be drawn into such level of judicial rascality or abuse of office, no matter the inducement or incentive.” Amaechi’s screening has been delayed due to a petition against his nomination by three PDP senators from his state.

The Senate has however ruled that the petition can’t stop the former governor’s confirmation as minister as the case against him is still pending before a court.

Amaechi will expectedly be screened on Tuesday, October 20, when the Senate resumes the exercise.

Olusegun Obasanjo (Punch)

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he derived pleasure from insults spoken against him when he was in office. Obasanjo made the statement on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, while presenting an address at a conference of the African Studies Association of Africa in Ibadan, Oyo State.

“If you visit the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, you will find thousands of archived newspaper comics and columns meant to spite and insult my person even as a sitting President,” Obasanjo said. “No individual or group of people was ever queried or jailed or repressed for expressing this freedom.

Rather, I encouraged them because I derived fun and pleasure from the humour as I know who I am and nobody needs to tell me who and what I am not,” he added.

Obasanjo was Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007.
PoliticsBuhari Ministerial List: 5 Notable Persons Whose Names Aresurprisingly Missing by oyem4u(op): 9:17pm On Oct 15, 2015
The list includes prominent persons like
former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde

Fayemi.

Obiageli Ezekwesili

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally unveiled his ministerial nominees after making Nigerians wait and anticipate for four months.

The list includes prominent persons like former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola [/] and his counterpart from Ekiti, [b] Kayode Fayemi.

However, some notable personalities were surprisingly omitted from Buhari’s cabinet. 5 of them are:

1. Oby Ezekwesili: The former Minister of Education was favoured by many to be part of Buhari’s cabinet due to her strength, integrity and persistence in championing the cause of the abducted Chibok girls.

2. Donald Duke: The former Cross River State governor is credited with giving tourism a face in Nigeria and his visit to Buhari after the president’s victory in the 2015 elections gave rise to rumours that he would be chosen as a minister.

3. Abike Dabiri: The former legislator is a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Buhari’s party. Her track record and decision not to seek re-election in the House of Representatives led many to believe that she would soon have bigger fish to fry.

4. Femi Falana: Weeks before the nominees were eventually unveiled, it was widely reported that the foremost human rights lawyer would be chosen to fill the spot of Attorney General of the Federation. His name was however not present on the list.

5. Nuhu Ribadu: Despite being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is a staunch anti- corruption campaigner and many expected that Buhari would employ his services in a bid to boost the current war against corruption

Romance7 Things That Show You're Old Enough, Ready For Sex by oyem4u(op): 4:12pm On Oct 15, 2015
That you have a penis, get erections and get
turned on by women or that you have a hairy
vagina, have breasts and feel the urge for sex,
does not mean you are ready. You must
realize that readiness is not about age and
physical development alone.

https://static.pulse.ng/img/gist/origs2871162/9261853786-w640-h640/Allow-Your-Woman-To-Be-On-Top-More-Often.jpg

Here are 7 things that show your readiness:

1. You know the risks –
you must know the risk you are facing by attempting sex. The risks of pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) are there always…

2. You know how to use contraceptives –

if you know the risks, are you aware of the ways of getting ‘safe’ sex? Do you know how to use condoms and pills to prevent STDs and pregnancy? Ask yourself…

3. You know what to do if you or your lover gets pregnant –

so in the event that contraceptives fail, what would you do? Do you have a plan for the eventuality of pregnancy opt diseases. Will you see a doctor, abort or keep the baby? Tell yourself…

4. You go for sex sober –

if you only want sex when you are high or drunk, then you are not ready because you will make bad choices in those periods. You’re less like to play safe…

5. You have a trusted partner –

if you have than guy/girl you trust to treat you right and also ensure you play safe, then you are not ready. If the person is a stranger, please, you’re not ready for sex…

6. You are okay with being stuck with your partner for life –

sometimes, eventualities happen after sex….like a pregnancy or an STD. If it happens, will you be willing to marry or at least deal with the issue together? It is important.

7. You know sex is about you and the other person –

This is important. Can you say no? Are you saying yes because he/she want it? You must
reach a point where the desire for sex is not to please that person but to please you both, share something special…

As was noted earlier, sex is pleasurable but that pleasure comes with consequences and responsibilities.

PoliticsThese ‘analogue’ Ministers by oyem4u(op): 8:56am On Oct 14, 2015
https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Buhari-Ministers-e1444768883981.jpg

For four months, the anxiety was high. So also
were expectations. And when the list of ministerial
nominees was still not forthcoming, permutations
took over. Even conmen were not left out in the
emerging equation as they quickly moved in,
telling desperate politicians that they have the necessary links to get their names on the final list
of nominees. In the process, many unsuspecting
Nigerians were fleeced of their hard-earned or
fraudulently acquired money.

The newspapers too and the social media were
not left out as they scrambled to undo one another
with different “scoops” and “exclusives” on
who and who will make the list. In other words,
the rumour mill came alive and spilled out different
names at different times. But all these came to an end last Tuesday when Bukola Saraki, the Senate
President, formally read out the names of
President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominees for
ministerial positions. Since then, the debate has
changed. Now that Nigerians have an idea of those
who will form the new cabinet, the debate is now about whether the waiting game was worth it or
whether those now penciled down are the best
materials the country can produce at this time.

It has not been easy though. The list has attracted
divergent views. While some people believe that
most of the names on the list are made up of
‘analogue’ people or spent forces who have
little or nothing to contribute, others believe that
there is nothing in the list to suggest that the much- vaunted change under the current dispensation is
on course. The reason is simple. Many people
believe that some people who might have been
tainted by corruption or with corruptive tendencies
actually made the list of ministers as against the
promise of putting in place, a new Nigeria, where all Nigerians will be proud of their country.
Besides, in many states, people seem unhappy
about the names of some nominees due to one
complaint or the other.

The summary of the whole thing is that quite a
good number of people are not happy with the
final list for different reasons. A lot of people are in
doubt if the list was the handiwork of just one
man, the president himself, as being peddled
around. They may be right. Looking at the list, it is obvious that the All Progressives’ Congress, APC,
leadership had substantial influence on the list
because majority of the nominees are APC
members. This is a confirmation that the party
machinery had inputs in the compilation of the list.
In that case, the party leaders must have breath down the neck of the president to be able to get
the names of the party members to be
accommodated in the list as against what majority
of Nigerians had expected.

Majority of Nigerians had expected a list that will
feature names of renowned technocrats,
professionals and others who have distinguished
themselves in their fields of endeavour. Quite a lot
of them are scattered across the ivory towers,
blue chip companies and elsewhere in the country. Others are making waves in the Diaspora by
contributing actively and significantly to the
economic development of foreign countries. They
are doing this at a time their fatherland is
wallowing pitifully in a slough of ignorance,
poverty and bondage. And it is so, because those who have constituted themselves into local
champions and tin-gods in Nigeria will never allow
them the opportunity to contribute their own quota
to the development of the nation.

From what I was able to piece together, Buhari
had wanted to go it all alone by picking his
ministers himself. It later turned out that most of
the people he had his eyes on, were people he
knew when he was in power many years ago
both as President and Petroleum Minister at different times. Some of the people are now in
their late 70s or early 80s. In fact, some of them
have suffered stroke or one form of infirmity or
another, a situation that made the president to
beat a retreat. It is believed that it was at this point
that the party seized the initiative and started bringing all manner of people for consideration as
ministers. Certainly, this cannot be Nigeria’s first
eleven.

PoliticsWhy Buhari Must Work With Elders, By Maitama Sule by oyem4u(op): 8:36am On Oct 14, 2015

Alhaji Maitama Sule

Elder statesman and Nigeria’s former Permanent
Representative to the United Nations (UN) Alhaji
Maitama Sule has urged President Muhammadu
Buhari to work with the nation’s elders to
achieve the needed change in his government.

Sule gave the advice in Abuja at the inaugural
ceremony and the international conference of the
African Society for Ageing Research and
Development on Ageing, organised by the National
Universities Commission (NUC) in collaboration with
World Health Organisation, (WHO)

The theme was: “New Realities of Ageing in
Africa: Implications for Research and Policy”.

He added that Buhari should not abandon the aged,
but adopt the mixture of the young and aged in the
formation of his cabinet to produce the country’s
better future leaders.

According to him, the deterioration of values and
leadership qualities across a broad spectrum of
society called for concern.

PoliticsTinubu Attacks Saraki by oyem4u(op): 6:36am On Oct 14, 2015
By Clifford Ndujihe & Dapo Akinrefon
NATIONAL Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, lambasted Senate President, Bukola Saraki, describing him as an indisciplined, disloyal and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in soul.
Tinubu spoke yesterday while denying media reports (notVanguard) that he was conspiring with Senate President Saraki to move against President Muhammadu Buhari over his alleged disaffection with the ministerial list.

Insisting that President Buhari must be supported by all to realise the change agenda, Tinubu said there was no way he could conspire with Saraki, who he said was indisciplined, disloyal and a PDP member in soul.
Tinubu spoke via a statement from Conakry, Guinea, by his Media Director, Dare Sunday.
“The idea of an alleged conspiracy between Tinubu and Saraki against the President is a lie. Tinubu is committed to the APC vision and the Nigeria Project. The way Senator Saraki captured his current seat travestied party discipline” he said.
Reacting to the attack, the Senate President, Saraki, said he would not join issues with Tinubu and promised that the screening of ministerial nominees, starting tomorrow, would be done objectively according to the laws of the country and in the interest of Nigerians.
Tinubu in the statement said: “It was a crass act of disloyalty showing that Saraki may have joined the APC on paper but has remained true to the malpractices and wrong aims of the reactionary PDP in his soul.
“If this nation is to have more than a fleeting chance of escaping the quagmire into which years of PDP misrule have taken us, we cannot allow these regressive elements to deploy their cunning tricks to divide and pit progressives against progressives,” he said
The APC leader said he would not toss aside a lifetime’s labour because of an alleged slight and certainly would not join with Senator Saraki in stymieing the government which might just be the nation’s last best chance to salvage itself.
“In our journey to national betterment, plans and policies will be made, then amended. Mistakes will occur and then be corrected. Achievements will be had and replicated. Through it all, Asiwaju will remain true to the progressive ideals that fuelled the creation of the APC. He has devoted his political life to achieve what has been achieved. His heart is too much of the people and his mind too fixed on establishing a positive historic legacy to suffer such a cynical policy or engage in the destructive pettiness of which he is accused.”
He continued: ‘’The alleged conspiracy is a figment. It takes at least two people to make a conspiracy. There has been no substantive communication between Asiwaju and Saraki since the latter decided to foul the integrity of the Senate and the party. To be truthful, I don’t think Saraki would care to hear what Asiwaju would have to say to him. He would admonish the Senator to treat the nomination process with dispatch, justice, fairness, transparency, and most of all with the greatest patriotism.
“He would counsel Saraki to shelve his personal situation for the moment to concentrate on the people’s business. It would be a grave mistake and abuse of office for Saraki to directly or indirectly inject his personal matter into the approval process. Saraki should not link the approval of a single minister to his desire for extra-judicial treatment of his issues.’’
The statement read in part: ‘’Other than voice this encouragement, Bola Tinubu will never say a negative word or lift a finger to forestall anyone’s approval before the Senate. For the record, the Buhari Presidency was brought to life by the votes of millions of Nigerians who desire change. Such a collective and historic achievement is not one that anyone who worked to bring it to life would easily seek to de-construct.
“If adhering to the decisions of the party, supporting the government’s progressive plank and working for the good of the people qualifies Tinubu for surveillance, then he will accept that.
“However, we know that any such surveillance is not from state security organs. Such activity would come from the insecurity agencies of the PDP and its mercenary allies elsewhere who would seek to fragment the true core of the APC so that they may scuttle the Buhari reform programme and return the nation to the misgovernance of the past. They hope to delude the APC into attacking itself. By so doing, they believe they can regain through stealth, the reins of government the people seized from them through elections. They seek to break the hearts and hopes of the people. Asiwaju Tinubu would never team with anyone to gain such an inhumane objective…
“Those who midwifed this garish tale gave birth not to truth but to lies intended to kill APC unity and to retard the Buhari administration’s strategic reform initiatives, as earlier outlined by our party manifesto. Given the potential for change that stands before us, we are now beginning to see the true nature of many people. There are those who truly want positive change so that we can break from the ways of a stolid past. Then there are those who speak of change with their mouths but never believe in it in their hearts. They came along with us for the ride or because no other political option availed itself at the operative time. Now given the chance to redeem themselves from their past political actions, they would rather return to the political morass from whence they came.
“Here, I will do those who inhabit the shadows of untruth a favour. I will state explicitly what they hoped to get the reader to infer. Their claim is that Tinubu has joined with Saraki to scuttle the President’s ministerial nominations. They have misfired.
‘’Their wrong is a great wrong. Like the rest of us, Asiwaju Tinubu waited for the President to select his cabinet. The majority of the selections have been made. There is nothing to do but congratulate the appointees and pray for them. Their responsibilities are vast, the future of the nation now rests on their shoulders. The challenges before them are manifold and daunting. Those who want the best for Nigeria can only hope that these people succeed. The only intervention that Asiwaju Tinubu would make is one of encouragement. He would charge them to remain true to the progressive vision of the party and our President.’’
I won’t join issues with Tinubu—Saraki
Reacting, Saraki, in a statement by his Spokesperson, Mr Yusuf Olaniyonu said: “I saw the statement said to be issued by Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu over a story published by a national daily. I have decided not to join issues with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, I know that most Nigerians are aware that there has been no meeting or communication between me and Asiwaju Tinubu since I was elected Senate President. Therefore, I do not see any basis for a newspaper to report that we are both plotting to oppose the President.
“I recognise Tinubu as one of the leaders of the APC who contributed so much to the victory of the party in the last election. Some other people also contributed and I believe the collective efforts made it possible for the first time in the history of our country for an opposition party to win the general elections.
He also said: “Let me state clearly that I remain a committed member of the APC and will do all in my powers to ensure the party fulfill its promises to bring positive changes into the country.
“Since my election as Senate President, my focus and efforts have been devoted to doing the job that I was elected to do by my constituents and my colleagues in the Senate. Twice, my colleagues have confirmed their support for me as the primus inter pares in the Senate.
“As I said in my speech when we resumed from our recess late September and in Ikenne over the weekend, the screening of ministerial nominees will be handled by me and my colleagues with all sense of responsibility and in adherence to the provision of the constitution. We will be fair to all and be guided by the interest of Nigeria. The screening will be devoid of sentiment and it is not an opportunity for anybody to settle scores. We are equally eager for us to make a positive difference in our polity and Nigerians will be able to judge us whether we acted in their best interest or not.”

PoliticsAlamieyeseigha Was ‘hounded, Harassed To Death’ By APC Led FG – Fayose by oyem4u(op): 6:29am On Oct 14, 2015
Ado-Ekiti- Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has fingered the All Progressive Congress led Federal Government in the death of former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Describing the death as painful and unfortunate, Fayose said, the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government finally
succeeded in hounding an Ijaw leader to death just because of his staunch stance on the upcoming Bayelsa State governorship election.”
Fayose, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka said, the governor commiserated with the deceased family, former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan as well as the Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon Seriake Dickson and the entire people of the State.
The governor, who prayed for the repose of the soul of the late former Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation, said his death was “an eclipse of a political figure, who despite all political odds, still commanded great respect from his people.”
While blaming the Federal Government for his death, Governor Fayose said; “Obviously, the Federal Government was behind the plot to extradite the Alamieyeseigha to the United Kingdom to face fresh trial, a situation that made him to abandon his medical treatment in Dubai.
“Even though I am not against anti-corruption fight, it is painful that in the present day Nigeria, political vendetta is being allowed to override the sovereignty of the country, such that the Presidency was eager to release, a citizen of Nigeria that had been tried, convicted and later pardoned in accordance with the laws of the country.
“Having been tried and convicted eight years ago, served his sentence and forfeited properties to the Bayelsa State Government; methinks Alamieyeseigha should have been allowed to live his life without unnecessary political intimidation and harassment.
“I have consistently asked them why they have closed their eyes to the corruption allegations against their own people. Why is their attention only on people from the Southern part of Nigeria? And now that Alamieyeseigha has been hounded and harassed to death, what else can the apostles of political vendetta do?
“My prayer is that God in His infinite mercies will console the entire Alamieyeseigha’s family and the people of Bayelsa State, especially members of our great party, the PDP and also grant them the fortitude to bear this sad and painful loss.”

The portfolio will now have no minister, while a ministerial nominee in the person of Emmanuel Kachikwu, current Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, would be Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
This indication was given by the presidential spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina, barely two weeks after he had told international media that President Muhammadu Buhari would take the position.
Bloomberg, yesterday quoted Adesina as saying “he cannot be President and oil minister at the same time. He will supervise the ministry, so there will be no petroleum minister. Maybe he will appoint a Minister of State.”
Adesina had said in New York, few days to handing over of the ministerial nominees’ list to the Senate that Buhari was to take charge of the ministry.
Reports had come from New York, where Buhari was attending the UN General Assembly last month, quoting the President as saying he would be Minister of Petroleum, with a junior minister taking charge of day-to-day affairs in the sector.
Though Adesina gave the impression that the reversal was to separate the office of the President from that of petroleum ministry, it was speculated that the move may be due to some Senators’ threat to force a screening of the President in line with their rules, if he nominates himself for the position.
Buhari has made tackling the rot in the oil sector a priority, as he seeks to cut endemic graft and put the country’s crippled, crude-dependent finances on a firmer footing.
Nigeria, Africa’s number one crude producer and biggest economy, has been hit badly by a slump in global crude prices since last year, squeezing government revenue.
Oil accounts for some 90 percent of Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.
The president has vowed to recover “mind-boggling” sums of stolen oil cash, starting with a drastic overhaul of NNPC, the government-owned oil firm.
Buhari helped establish the NNPC in 1977 as oil minister under military government of General Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was later in charge of the Petroleum Trust Fund during the time of General Sani Abacha in the 1990s.
PoliticsLai Mohammed Files N500m Suit Against Metuh, Alleges Defamation by oyem4u(op): 6:31am On Oct 13, 2015
A ministerial nominee and spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Monday filed a N500m defamation suit against Chief Olisa Metuh of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to Mohammed in his brief filed before the Lagos State High court, Ikeja, Metuh had defamed him in a press release, authored and circulated on September 20, 2015, where according to him was alleged that he (Mohammed) embezzled the funds meant for fencing of an airport in one of the APC-controlled states in the South-West.
Mohammed also claimed that Metuh alleged he (Mohammed) obtained money to supply ambulances to one APC-controlled state in the South-West, which he never did.
Though, the suit, filed Monday is yet to be assigned to any judge.
In the statement, Metuh was claimed to have wondered where the APC chieftain got the courage to speak on corruption when indeed he had mastered the art of corruption having been “a personal aide to one of the most corrupt politicians to ever bestride the political space of the country.”
Mohammed, who noted he was a one-time coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organisation, disclosed that the statement credited to Metuh was “carefully calculated to inflict damage on my reputation and to lessen me in the estimation of the public.”

According to him, Metuh in the statement had said, “…our final word for the APC spokesman on this, is that being ethically challenged, includes embezzling funds meant for fencing an airport in an APC-led South-West state.
“It also includes when one fraudulently refuses to supply ambulances after collecting monies from another APC South-West state.
“It is a comedy of roles when Alhaji Lai Mohammed speaks on corruption, a topic he practices and has well learnt, being a personal aide to one of the most corrupt politicians to ever bestride the political landscape of the country.”
Claiming monetary damaged, Mohammed claimed that Mehuh had injured his “character in a grave manner and caused him considerable reputational destruction and embarrassment.”
He added that Metuh admitted authorising the statement in a letter by his lawyer, Emeka Etiaba (SAN) dated September 25, 2015 to the claimant’s lawyer, Wahab Shittu, but denied that it was Mohammed that was being referred to.
Mohammed, however, quoted Etiaba to have also referred to an earlier statement where Mohammed also attacked Metuh by stating that “the allegations of corruption hanging on his (Metuh) neck, from within his own party, is a clear indication that he is mortally afraid that the wind will soon blow hard enough to expose the fowl’s rump…”
Mohammed, however, insisted that he made the said statement based on a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission written against Metuh on July 15, 2015 by the PDP, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Ward 1, in the Oyi Local Government chapter of Anambra State.

To this end, Mohammed is seeking an order mandating Metuh to not only retract his statement but to also tender published apology to him in a widely read newspaper for seven consecutive days.
Apart he sought for an order of perpetual injunction restraining Metuh and his privies from further publishing or disseminating libelous materials against him.

LiteratureWhat A Fake World by oyem4u(op): 4:11am On Sep 28, 2015
WHAT A FAKE WORLD…

A child comes into the world crying,

Everyone is rejoicing…

He starts growing

Everyone loves him and desires to carry him and

call him nice names

He starts trying to succeed and people are

encouraging him to rise up

But when he starts making progress, the problem

starts

Some will become jealous, looking for how to pull

him down

He dares them and steps on their toes to climb

higher

They hate him and curse him and call him names,

even wishing him dead…

Unfortunately he dies and everyone starts crying…

They start saying wonderful things about him

“He was a good man”

“He was nice”

“He was faithful”

But if I may ask, “Why will he suddenly become

good after death?”

“Will anyone give his/her life for this man to come

back to life?”

What if a miracle happens and the man starts

rising again from the grave?

Wow! Everyone will jump up and run for their

lives…

Hahahaha… what a fake world!

Aren’t this world and the people fake?

Pretence and deception everywhere

Fake celebrities on tv, borrowing ladies and cars

to shoot videos just to make us admire them and

wish we were as wealthy as they are

They act very sexy parts and appear half-Unclad

in movies

But they try to appear descent in real life

So the life in the movie is far different from the

real life?

If so, why do we try to copy the ‘TV-life’ and not

their real life?

There is always a beautiful face on the cases of

creams and soaps

It’s just to deceive you and make you believe that

the

beautiful woman on the pack has been using the

soap, therefore if you want your skin to be like

hers, you have to buy the soap or cream…

What a terrible lie… You will be shocked to know

that the woman on the pack has never used that

soap or cream, she is a model that was hired to

make the product sell…

Oh! It’s obvious that we live in a fake world,

A world that cannot be trusted

A world that will not last long

A world that will soon fade away

So I have no other choice than to stick to my one

and only

RomanceMustknow - The Teenager And The Challenges Of Sexual Pressure by oyem4u(op): 8:22pm On Sep 26, 2015
A good percentage of our teens and young adults today are under the siege of sexual pressure. Many willing teens and young adults easily give in to the pressure of sex and not because they actually bargained for it or were in full support of the sexual experiencing they were having. But it has been discovered that lack of good parenting and mentorship have led many of our young stars into undue negative early sexual exposure and disaster.
Parents and guardians, in a bid to balance business and parenthood, fail in their responsibilities towards these young ones.
The negative media influences (Internet) cannot be over emphasised. It is from the internet these teens and young stars are polluted as many of our teens get hooked to porn sites as early as age 10 and sometimes below. Masturbation, pornography, sex chatting have now become the order of the day among these teens. It is from internet that these young ones are pressured into bad gangs, sexual perversion etc. Research has shown that many sexual activities are pre-programme into all children’s games, phones, ipad, iphones, Facebook dating etc. Then again, the violence-saturated media leads to the ever-increasing acceptance of violence among our young adults.
I am of the opinion that parents and guardians should do a bit more on sex education than they have done. Then, we would be able to salvage our teens and young adults from this impending sexual disaster.
But the greatest challenge is actually how to start this sex education.
Many well-meaning parents want to know the best approach they can adopt with their teenagers when they want to introduce and discuss sex and sexuality with them. Talking to your teenage child about sex and puberty can be quite challenging as some parents even avoid the topic completely because they are ignorant of their teens budding maturity, exposure and even the extent of what he or she knows already.
Others have the concern that talking about sex and their teens’ body change would lead to early experimentation. Some other parents hesitate to start the conversation out of unnecessary fears, as such, leaving their teens to chances. I think it is not safe for parents to leave children to chances while wishing all would be well. Why not effect the changes you want to see in them?
A sex therapist expert says sex education is easier passed to the male teen than the female teen. This is the more reason a teen girl should be taught way ahead of her male counterpart. As soon as a girl- child reaches puberty, you should not delay discussing sex and puberty any longer. Many teens turn to friends and the media to get answers, much of which may be way off base. You might be surprised to know that although teens report getting most of their information from the above two sources, the number one source they would wish they could go to with questions is ‘you,’ their parents.
Besides, refusing to talk about puberty and sex doesn’t make the potential problems go away. Seventy -nine per cent of adolescents report that they have had sex by age 10, and by their senior years, the number would have even jumped to 87 per cent. Talking about sex with your teen won’t cause them to explore their sexuality. In fact, some studies show talking openly and honestly about sex could help prevent unwanted teenage pregnancy. When it comes to talking about sex and puberty, don’t think of it as one big, difficult conversation. Instead, think of it as a series of conversations that should take place throughout their teen years. Do not shove so much content on them at one sitting than they can absorb and process. Offer information in snippets, as you give them time to think and invite them to ask you questions.
The first step is learn how to encourage them to share details about their lives with you, no matter how embarrassing. Starting off with girls especially needs some level of smartness. You can start by indicating that you are not sure if she has started puberty and sex education in school or you can ask her if she has started menstruating. The truth of the matter is many teens hide this information from their parents.
While you open up such talks, observe their body changes. For most girls, the development of breasts is the first sign of puberty. This development can be an awkward time if you haven’t talked to her about this yet. Development begins with breast buds, which are lumps just under the nipple that can be tender. It is normal for one to develop before the other. As breasts develop, the area around the nipple (areola) will darken and hair can grow around it. As breasts development continues, growth can be uneven. This is normal and the size difference tends to decrease throughout development. If breast development occurs quickly, stretch marks may form. This is normal and they usually become less obvious over time. While for most boys, the development is more obvious in the change in their voice, it gets deeper and they start developing armpit and pubic hair.
Along breasts development, the young girl gains body fat and her hips widen, which sometimes may lead to weight gain. Your daughter may be concerned that she’s gaining weight, but explain that she’s just gearing up for a growth spurt. Girls need healthy weight gain during this time in their lives. Be careful not to make them feel pressured to diet. Remember that how you feel about yourself will be reflected in how your daughter views herself, so be mindful about what you are communicating about body image. While for boys, there may not be obvious change in weight, rather, they may just grow taller with long bones.
Half of all girls in Nigeria today get their periods before their 11th birthdays; 70 per cent by age 13, and 88 per cent by age 15. While some girls can’t wait to start their periods, others may feel afraid or anxious. To add to their anxiety, many girls don’t have a complete understanding of their reproductive system or what actually happens during the menstrual cycle.
Tell her how long a period normally lasts and how often they occur. Tell her that her menstrual cycle would likely last for seven days or less. Her period may be irregular for the first few years. Once her cycle becomes regular, most girls get their period every 25 to 30 days. Some get them as frequently as every 21 days or as infrequently as every 45 days. Let her know what to expect.
With boys, the testosterone gushes out fast with higher pressure making them to be aware of their sexuality. This testosterone sometimes causes them to experience night emissions; this is the natural way the body regulate the level of semen and sperm cell in the scrotal of the boy. Note please that night emission is not the same thing as wet dreams. While night emission is done without any human effort or assistance, wet dream is a fantasy imagined.
You can explain that during her period, hormones can cause nausea, cramping, and diarrhoea. Explain sanitary products to her. Explain the different options and discuss the pros and cons of each and show her how to use them. Talk about the odours and discharges between periods. Explain to her the discharge from her vagina is a way of naturally cleansing itself. Teach her to wipe from front to back after using the bathroom to avoid vaginal or bladder infections. Explain the reasons why she has to change the sanitary products. Let her know that the use of toilet rolls for menstrual period is the reason for many onsets of chronic itching, yeast infection, some types of toilet infections and some forms of pelvic inflammatory diseases.
Explain the differences between normal vaginal discharges and infectious discharges. Caution your daughter against using feminine sprays. This is not the ideal time to tell them not to be close to a boy or else they would get pregnant, NO! Tell them the truth about the beauty of sex and the proper place for sex which is in marriage and that sex is not meant for teens and young adults however raging the passion for sex may appear. Tell them that the ability to become a pregnant mother or ability to be a father is not the same thing as been mature enough to shoulder the responsibilities of parenthood.
Do not paint a distorted picture that sex is bad. Tell them sex is a sweet beautiful thing that happen between you and their dad or you and their mum and that they were the products of mature sexual relationship as it were. Let them know that the perfect, conducive and appropriate place for good sex is in the marriage and tell them the everlasting benefit of sex within the marriage confinement.
These will help them rather than telling them not to go near boys. These teens unavoidably mingle with the opposite sex at one point in time or the other. Proper mingling should be encouraged more than just giving orders that they could easily break when they discover it is actually baseless and you were not telling them the truth. Back this up by being the best friend they could ever confide in. It is normal for a teen to be sexually attracted to another teen but let them know the implication of early feelings of passionate love and sex. Let them be able to ask you questions that they may think you may not be comfortable with.
