pamcode: I have come here to rant. I had a choice facing me this Gw i.e Bruno or Rashford. I could have easily gotten rashford without a point deduction but his consistency was a concern to me and we all know Bruno has been what makes United tick. Long story short I went for bruno at the last minute at the expense of Son and Grealish and a -4. My points total after deduction is 28 needless to say I am in severe pain right now. This makes me remember my decision before Utd vs Everton, because i didn't want to take a hit, i opted for Rashford over Bruno, Bruno got 18pts that day, while Rashford got 5. I have since sold Rashy from my team after that game. |

UCHIHAmask: you know,he was the eldest(25yrs),i already said he is not the type that gets acute sickle cell complications,he only gets slight fever or headache in like once in three years and when that happens he would still actively play games, press phone or chat with us,sometimes the fever goes away without him taking any drug,i was always susceptible to malaria, then he is there to give me drugs,he knows well about it because he is always on fruits, vitamins and supplements etc,now he gets the normal seasonal fever and headaches that comes to him but this time around he didn't buy drugs to treat himself,he even stop taking his vitamins, folics and supplements,my elder sister noticed his passive reactions and took it upon herself to buys the drugs for him,he agreed to take the drugs only to remove the tablets, pretend to take it while actually hiding them in his stacks...early morning the day he died(21/04/15) while i was travelling for work he gave me loads of cash,at the time of his death he called that my sister and told her "it was time",he said "they are here already to pick me and i would go with them",later he slept and never woke up... although i didn't quite understand this then,he was weak physically so seeing his male siblings all built up(body building) with girls flocking around them(something he wouldn't easily get),not being physically strong, taking drugs, supplements and vitamins to survive, coupled with the glare or shun he might have faced in school after gaining admission that year.... With all you have written, you need to stop blaming him for his death. 1) Because he is no more 2) Because he might have faced challenges that he didn't reveal, just like the ones you mentioned. |

And I have Grealish and Barkley. Na to play free hit. Don't waste your free hit, Barkley is already injured, you only need to bench grealish or sell him. I am using free hit because i have 4 players out. Martinez, Konsa, Grealish and Wilson. Remember teams might still have their games postponed due to covid, and by then you might have more than one player from both teams. |

Too much tinkering affected my GW9.
After GW9 i swooped for Bruno and Ziyech selling Rashford and Son for -4.
What made me made that transfer was because i almost got Bruno before United-Everton match, but i didn't want to take a hit of -4, i even had 2 FT sef, so i signed Rash and Soucek.
So, i had the armband of Bruno for West brom match, after Salah positive covid news, i was thinking about what to do with him.
Them on Friday night, i sold Salah and signed Mane for a -8, because i was tipping Liverpool to win, and i thought Mane will do the damaged since Salah was not playing, and i gave Mane armband.
That move derailed my GW9.
because assuming i didn't sell Salah, C will be on Bruno for 22pts.
Wilson didn't play, and Soucek was my first sub 3pts, then i had Konsa 8pts on bench which was wasted.
I started Konsa because i didn't want double Villa defence, cos Martinez is my GK.
I have stopped going to twitter to read comments from FPL fanatics, and i have stopped tinkering my team.
Also captaincy have let me down.
The highest i have gotten from my captain this season is 18 when Salah scored pen against Man City. But my OR is still 580 |

Standing5: You have a point about those not admitted being out of sch and being nuisance to the society but the whole point here isn't about that. It is about taking the student not admitted to other important fields the society needs. If too many accountants or lawyers are ending up as hair dressers, then it might just be wise to find a way to lure them to or pull them towards other fields that ate in shortage in the society. Fields like mechatronics. Let me share a though with you in the hope of making see why some fields are needed. When America was facing the huge decision of whether to abolish slave trade, the inventions of certain individuals help speed up that decision because the birthed the industrial age and it meant machines could do a lot more to relieve humans of stress. They started pushing bright minds towards fields that could advance the industrial revolution. These are minds who would have ordinarily gone for literature or law or accounting. This same pattern repeated itself again in the nuclear energy knowledge revolution.
Right now in Nigeria, we need more doctors. Why not reduce accounting intake a little and increase that for medical student to close that gap? No one is saying they should stop taking accounting students. Just use the scarce resources to meet the more urgent and pressing demands by allowing more doctors to be trained. A first class material in accounting will always make a good doctor, at least to me, I see it that way, so why keep the brilliant accountants in labor market when they can be systematically channelled to medicine and surgery to meet the demands of the society? Same too for lawyers. Do you know how many lawyers end up in soap making or hairdressing business. Businesses so many uneducated folks can easily beat them in by offering competitive services. I get what you are saying. But it still boils down to policies, of which are only made by government. |

Standing5: He was right. JAMB is a ranking exam. It helps the system filter out those who passed WAEC but are not in the top percentile of best candidates. It is a little bit like interview after aptitude test. I didn't say it's not, but why will private varsities scrap such a vital prerequisite? Cos they want more students (even if the student is dull), which means more money. And what i am driving at is that it has been bastardized at the basic level. A pupil might not pass common entrance, but any private school will take such a student. A pupil might not pass junior waec, but any private school will admit such. In fact if a pupil haven't been to school before, such a pupil will enter Js1 or ss1 in a private school. |

Standing5: The issue on ground isn't one of simple blame game.
Go to uniben and see their law department, it is like five private university combined. That leaves the society with many lawyers who don't get a chance to put to practice what govt has has subsidized. What if the the FG through NUC forces down the number of law department intake with their influence over the schools(after all the FG funds them) and make room for new and emerging fields that are needed in the society? Think about it. The FG just releases money to please the people or students and parents at the expense of the the productivity of the schools and their graduates. You seem reasonable than the i too know person i quoted, that's why i didn't deem it fit to offer him a reply. Nigeria problem is cumbersome. Though i believe public institutions admits so many students into a department so as to get more money. Private uni - 1 student - 500,000 Public Uni - 10 students - 500,000 All boils down to economics. Another issue is, those hundreds of students in a department must have been admitted on merit. And also base on poverty in Nigeria and so many low income families, if 25 out them were chosen, what will be the fate of the remaining 75? They will cause more nuisance to the society because if they are not i school, their is also no job they can lay their hands on till the next admission year. We all know over population, lack of power and lack of industries amongst others is our problem. And where do all these boils down to? GOVERNMENT another area we can help youths in this country is sports, i don't know why Nigeria have not tapped into this. Again boils down to government. As badly as UK does compare to other country in terms of athletics gold, they pour big money into their sports. No sports is too small, but instead this people that handles our finances will rather gulp the money along with their families. |

HigherEd: Lol I hope you guys would realize the truth before it becomes late.
The current system where universities fully depend on payouts from the government is unsustainable and would never make the universities competitive or valuable enough to industry. Especially in a country with a surging population yet depleting economy.
As part of comprehensive reform of the Nigerian state. The emphasis on higher education needs to be lowered. Not everyone should need to go to university to amount to anything meaningful in life. People who must go there by virtue of stellar academic records should be offered scholarships.
Why would the ministry of education train with subsidy 2000 zoology students across the nation and only 1% of them end up as zoologist or researchers in Zoology. While the rest end up in banks, telcos, and everyother place where a zoology degree is never ended. How many subsidized degrees yield return on Investment for the Nigerian state. E.. g Inter rel, Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry etc? Tbh only strategically important degrees ought to be free in Nigerian schools. E.g Medicine, Nursing, Civil engineering.
Lets focus on our economy and generate enough value for each Nigerian to be self sufficient enough to fund their own education and stop funding unsustainable projects like ASUU. You blame ASUU for the outcome of students when the government/jamb peg admission at 160 for jamb? You all also blame public institutions for conducting post utme to admit the brilliant ones. Private university can even accept students with 110 jamb score. There is nothing again in this country, make everybody just dey push am. |
