Gunmen kill three policemen in Anambra

UNKNOWN gunmen on Thursday afternoon killed three policemen at a checkpoint at Umunze in Orumba South local government area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the gunmen drove to the Nsogwu area of the town and shot the policemen on duty.

As the policemen tried to escape into nearby compound, the gunmen shot them, took their guns and uniforms and escaped in a waiting car.

An eye witness in the area said: “The worst has happened in Umunze just now. The security men at that checkpoint at Nsogwu have been attacked.

“Information has it that three of the officers were gunned down. Umunze is in a war zone now!”

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga described the incident as unfortunate, adding that the state police command has swung into action to arrest the hoodlums.

Ikenga said: “It is an unfortunate incident and is part of the highest price security officers pay in serving the nation, but the police command is not deterred by this development.

“The reinforcement teams are already in the area and the manhunt for the assailants is ongoing, while joint security patrols have been intensified in the area.”

Gunmen behead policeman in Abia

Unknown gunmen have beheaded an Assistant Superintendent of Police, identified as Linus, along East Street, Ndiegoro, Aba, Abia State.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the police team at Tenant road junction by East street at about 5a.m, Tuesday.

On sighting the hoodlums, other police officers allegedly fled after exchanging gunfire with them.

The hoodlums were said to have caught one ASP popularly known as “Agbalagba” and cut off his head.

We gathered that the gang also made away with the dead policeman’s gun and uniform.

A resident who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the gruesome killing on Tuesday has sent fears to most residents of East Street, Ngwa Road, Akpu Road, Ndoki Street, Etche Road, and Ulasi Road all within the Ndiegoro axis into panic as the criminals were said to have threatened to attack more policemen and residents.

“With what we heard, they said they have declared war on police and the residents. I don’t know what happened ,but with the way they killed the policeman, with his head removed and what we heard they were shouting during the attack shows that there’s problem in Aba,” the resident said.

A retired police officer who pleaded anonymity stated that with the threat to attack more policemen in Aba, it is time the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of police and other security heads pay attention to what is happening in Ndiegoro, especially the areas linking it with Ogbor-Hill.

He said; “The police officer that was killed along Tenant Road by East Street had his head cut off, his arms carted away and his uniform taken away as well. What does that tell you? The criminal activities are becoming too much, yet the Commissioner of Police in Abia is behaving as if nothing is happening.

“I don’t know if the IGP is not getting reports of how these boys are causing fear and threatening his men on duty. Aba needs more police manpower. We have only eight functional police stations policing urban areas of the five local governments in Aba here.

“Do the Ohuru-Isimiri Division, Ndiegoro Division, Central Police Station, Uratta Division, Eziama Division, Azuka Division, Abayi Division and Osisioma Ngwa Division have the manpower and equipment to handle what’s currently unfolding here? Even the presence of Mopol 55, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Eziama and the anti-kidnaping unit, Aba Annex in Ndiegoro boundary with Ovom is not enough.

“Aba is densely populated and places like this Ndiegoro and the other side of the River (Ogbor-Hill) and even the Umunkama area crime – prone. This is exactly why this city called Aba is not expanding. The IGP and the Commissioner must act fast and take away these areas from the hands of criminals who have occupied them before it is too late.”

OyigboUpdate, I've gone through your post and I identified a pattern. I'm just curious. How do you come to the conclusion that the killings/kidnapping are carried out by IPOB or ESN?

Secondly, and most importantly, are you saying prior, say from 2014 when IPOB gained prominence, there have not been killings and kidnapping in the SE?

Meanwhile, you keep using IPOB, ESN and unknown gunmen interchangeably. How were you able to create a link between unknown gunmen and ESN. I thought if you believed they are ESN there is not need to introduce 'unknown' there.

The police found his car abandoned along Uga road in Uga, Aguata LGA with a lot of bl00d inside. As matter of fact, the police noted that with the level of bl00d they saw in his aband0ned car, along the Uga road, they're not sure he's still al!ve.

The k!dnappers have already collected a total of 10 million naira from his family, they first collected 5 millionn, but didn't let his family speak to him as proof of life. Upon insistence, they demanded for another 5milliin, which they got, but still won't let them speak with him or release him.

The police revealed that he was abducted in front of his house gate while he was trying to drive in. Witnesses reported seeing bl00d in front of his house gate on the floor. His companion, a pastor who was with him in the car, managed to escape from the other side of the vehicle.

In a separate incident, the same
k!dnappers tried to abduct another Lagos-based wealthy businessman who had returned to his hometown for a village meeting. Luckily, he was able to escape by jumping over his fence with bullet w0unds when they visited his house.

The k!dnappers left with only the other businessman through Umuchu-Umunze-Uga road in Aguata LGA from Owerre-Akokwa, Ideato-North LGA.

Please, anyone with any information should come forward and assist the police in finding this innocent and God-fearing businessman! Remember so many people depend on his kindness in many different to survive.
