Nairaland / General / Africa’s Largest Edible Oil Refinery Set For Operation In Ibadan by OYO4sure: 9:13am On Sep 10, 2017
Rom Oil Mills Limited, a subsidiary company of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, is expected to refine crude palm kernel oil, crude palm oil and crude soybean oil into refined oil and distilled fatty acids in Oyo State.

The company is the largest edible oil refinery in sub-saharan Africa.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ajimobi said the effect of the employment generation that the company would give the people of the state would be a reference point of his administration.

“This, indeed, is our idea of the so-called stomach infrastructure. We thank the management of the company for its trust and confidence in our state. You have indeed vindicated our stance,” he said.

The governor added that the cumulative effects of his administration’s developmental drive and consequent influx of investors into the state would result in employment generation and empowerment of the people.

According to him, the establishment of the firm, a-400 metric tonnes per day universal refinery is another testimony to his administration’s leadership and investors-baiting policies.

Ajimobi said, “This development is the dividend of the peaceful atmosphere which this administration brought back to the state at its inception as well as the enabling environment which had been attracting foreign investment.

“The management of this company would never have invested their billions of naira in a violent-prone and dirty Oyo State of the past,”‎ he said.

Education / Oyo Trains Over 11,000 Pupils In Holiday Summer Programmes by OYO4sure: 11:11am On Sep 09, 2017
The Oyo State Government has said that about 10,000 SS3 students participated in its WAEC Boot Camp in 66 centers across the Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas in the state to prepare students for the forthcoming examinations.

The government equally stated that 300 pupils between the ages 14 and 18 from both public and private schools participated in its OyoMesi Job Experience (OJE) scheme initiated to reignite the learning passion in pupils and give them appropriate exposure in the work place in order to imbibe relevant work ethics to prepare them for an excellent future.
The Special Adviser to Governor Ajimobi on Education, Dr Bisi Akin-Alabi stated these on Thursday in Ibadan, saying that another set of about 1000 pupils partook in a 4-week French Clinic and Cluster learning on Digital Literacy with three pilot centres including St Annes School, Molete, Lagelu Grammar School Agugu and Anglican Commercial Grammar School, Orita-mefa.
Dr Akin-Alabi noted that the French Clinic was organized to expose pupils to fresh as a second language for social interaction on global scene, adding that the digital literacy was meant to give pupils access to ICT as tools for learning and education enablers.
The Special Adviser, Education, explained that the WAEC Boot camp was organized to keep the pupils focused and prepare them for future examinations, stating that the long vacation represents a risk period in education for teenagers as they become restless and often engage in mischievous activities.
According to her, “All the OyoMesi activities, OJE, French Clinic, Digital Literacy and WAEC Boot Camp, have a common objective. They are meant to get pupils engaged in purposeful activities that are value adding to their education, discourage anti social activities and vices as well as juvenile delinquency during the long vacation. Most parents are not around to properly monitor their wards during the long vacation.”
Dr Akin-Alabi added that the Oyo State Government took the novel steps to prepare the pupils for future challenges and engage them in productive things rather than discouraging activities.

After compiling the lists of entrepreneurs in Nigeria who are under 30 few days ago which I posted here yesterday
https://www.nairaland.com/4041738/nigerias-notable-entrepreneurs-under-30
I found one go be unique which is that of Fasasi Tosin Oladayo.  After some online search and a DM to the company's instagram,  I was able to schedule a meeting with the young brain in Ibadan.

Now Fasasi Tosin Oladayo  is a third year Aerospace engineering student. He currently own four patents and he is also the founder of Nigeria biggest telecommunication equipment company Demfas Aerosystems.  According to the company's website, Demfas Aerosystems is a Nigerian manufacturer of radio transmitting and receiving equipment based in Nigeria. We are providing instant voice quality across a wider area and having a stable and immediate communication in times of emergency and also providing a stable communication in rural areas whereby cellular signal are inoperable since they operate on radio frequencies. Our devices offers encrypted communication, GPS mapping and others.

After a brief discussion with him,  I was able to go through some of his patent certificate. Being curious on his course of study and his projects,  I asked why he isn't doing anything related to his course and he immediately brought out his laptop opening through numerous folders showing some simulations,  CAD diagrams and some technical details on the drone his company is working on.

I asked if he is going to manufacture all these parts himself and how viable is his vision of producing an unmanned aerial vehicle of such standard here locally and he said "I'm purchasing the engine and am having a transfer of technology to be able to locally produce a ground control system. You see this folders,(point at some folders in his laptop) they are filled with technical details on most communications aspects. Those are things am capable of doing with the help of a great team." He said I just need some funding and trust me everyone will be shocked to this in Nigeria. Basically,   I just want you to know that all components are being covered by my patents,  my designs, circuit and whatever. I made sure all inventions in all of my products are being covered with patents.

Being curious on how he has been able to fund his projects to this level, he replied in confidence again "I have a company generating revenue so I'm able to do something from my sales while also building up a brand"

He belongs to some foreign organizations and currently working on. His company is a revenue generating company,  has ovrt 400 units of his products used by consumers in foreign countries such as USA,  Germany and Pakistan.

I am a PhD holder in electronics and telecommunication  and I envy this guy.  Few minutes with him shows his level of intelligence and am not surprised as he schooled in a foreign country.  Attached are his products while I forgot to take his picture,  I was able to get one through google.

Science/Technology / Meet Nigerian Born Facebook Engineer Olaoluwa Okelola From Oyo State by OYO4sure: 12:32am On Sep 09, 2017
- Olaoluwa Okelola is working as a software engineer for social media giant Facebook
- Nigerain born Okelola went a long way to become one of the most trusted employees in the company
- His success is not just pure luck but the result of good education and hard work.

The story of Olaoluwa Okelola shows how a young but talented man can achieve success by being outstanding in his own way. Nigerian born Okelola is currently living in San Francisco, the United States of America (USA) and working as a software engineer for social media giant Facebook. His success is not just pure luck but the result of good education and hard work.

From September 1996 till December 2000, he attended the International School in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

This school is a co-educational institution established by the University of Ibadan in 1963. It was the first of its kind in Nigeria and was founded to provide an environment where children both from within and outside Nigeria could live and learn together thereby fostering racial integration, international friendship and unity.

Later, Olaoluwa went to Avi-Cenna International School in Lagos and finished his secondary education in 2002. He continued his education at Howard University, Washington DC, where he studied systems and computer science.

In January 2005, Ola joined Microsoft as explorer intern, but left it in August the same year for Google where he worked as an engineering intern. In 2007, he joined Facebook and he has been working there up till date.

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg and Okelola seem to be enjoying a great working relationship.

The presence of these remarkable Nigerians calling shots in big tech companies in Silicon Valley is evidence that Nigerians are one smartest set of people on planet earth. However, Nigerians can do more to become more by chasing their dreams and aspiring to attain remarkable heights. Let's wish Olaoluwa good luck as he is making all Nigerians proud of him!

Expecting a sanction from US on Nigeria? Donald J Trump just approved sales of military jets to Nigeria which has always been blocked by the previous administration.

Wrong thinking dude. Nigeria is not Venezuela.

An economic sanction from China is more dangerous to Nigeria than that of the Americans. Fortunately, we won't get any.

Politics / Nigeria To Benefit $4bn In Tech Transfer From India by OYO4sure: 4:10pm On Sep 08, 2017
Nigeria is to experience huge technology transfer worth over $4 billion from India as the governments of both countries rekindle long-standing relationships at the third Indo-Africa ICT Expo which opened Wednesday in Lagos.

A statement from the organisers of the event said over 3,000 delegates from across Africa and India witnessed the inauguration of the technology event.

Already having a strong presence in Africa, India, through the conference is seeking stronger ties with Nigeria in particular, and has therefore offered its assistance in all areas of technology.

Along those lines, the Nigerian Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, who led the ministers from India, Ghana and top officials from Ethiopia, Rwanda and other African countries to inaugurate the conference, in his address at the event, expressed the country’s readiness to partner with India in all possible areas to achieve a digital economy in the country.

As part of India’s commitment to Nigeria, Shittu said it is also financing a solar-based digital connectivity project that would cover 1,000 rural areas in Nigeria.

The minister, however, used the opportunity to invite Indians to invest in key Nigerian ICT projects, which include the establishment of ICT University and ICT development bank to cater to the specific financing needs of the ICT industry in Africa’s biggest market.

Earlier in his opening address at the conference, Sanjay Nayak, Co-chairman of India’s Telecom Equipment & Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC), said India remains the ideal partner for Africa as it shares the same vision and mission for technology growth.

According to him, India has developed quality technologies well-crafted to meet the needs of countries in the African continent, and which they can leverage on at competitive price.

Citing the key capabilities of Indian companies and what they can offer Nigeria, the minister said that Indian companies have developed the engineering capabilities and experience with smart innovations.

“They have the ability to train employees at scale; innovative business models at low cost. This makes them well-positioned to support the booming African ICT sector,” he said.

Politics / The World In 2050. Nigeria's GDP Projection by OYO4sure: 7:46am On Sep 08, 2017
The long view: how will the global economic order change by 2050?

#world2050

130%

Cumulative global GDP growth between 2016 and 2050

20%

China’s projected share of world GDP at PPPs by 2050

2nd

India’s global GDP ranking at PPPs by 2050 (behind China but ahead of the US)

9%

EU27’s share of global GDP at PPPs by 2050 (excluding UK)

Key findings

This report sets out our latest long-term global growth projections to 2050 for 32 of the largest economies in the world, accounting for around 85% of world GDP.

Key results of our analysis (as summarized also in the accompanying video) include:

The world economy could more than double in size by 2050, far outstripping population growth, due to continued technology-driven productivity improvements

Emerging markets (E7) could grow around twice as fast as advanced economies (G7) on average

As a result, six of the seven largest economies in the world are projected to be emerging economies in 2050 led by China (1st), India (2nd) and Indonesia (4th)

The US could be down to third place in the global GDP rankings while the EU27’s share of world GDP could fall below 10% by 2050

UK could be down to 10th place by 2050, France out of the top 10 and Italy out of the top 20 as they are overtaken by faster growing emerging economies like Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam respectively

But emerging economies need to enhance their institutions and their infrastructure significantly if they are to realise their long-term growth potential.

Population growth will be a key driver of GDP growth in many emerging markets, such as Nigeria, Pakistan and India. But a key challenge will be to create enough jobs in these economies for their young people.
Nigeria, Pakistan and India will experience some of the greatest population growth to 2050, but growth in average GDP per capita are projected to be relatively less strong in these economies.

According to Dr.Andrew S. Nevin, Chief Economist, PwC Nigeria: “Nigeria’spotential advantages for future growth include a large consumer market, a strategic geographic location as a hub for Africa, and a young and entrepreneurial population. The first step in harnessing this opportunity requires deliberate efforts to improve value-adding activity in the non-oil economy, particularly in agriculture and services.”
