How Seyi Makinde Sterling Performance Transform Oyo State
The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde upon assuming duty as the states’ number one citizen has been here and there with so many reports about him. All point to the same direction of good governance which could also be interpreted as an ‘all inclusive’.
The journey of his political activities in the State which is dated back to May 29th, has enjoyed a wide range of robust accolades from the people of Oyo State, especially in terms of the governor’s people oriented programmes, which the governor released immediately after his emergence.
In the first instance, peace, they say it has no alternative. The only alternative to peace is to allow its manifest on the people, places or things. On this note, Governor Makinde thought of what could bring about peaceful co-existence in Oyo State and he suspended the leadership of the National Union of Roads Transports Workers (NURTW), Oyo State branch, to forestall a breakdown order.
Not only that, Makinde hosted Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission Security Summit, code named Amotekun to advocate for a regional approach to security challenges in South-West Nigeria with the procurement of 100 vehicles for use by the security agencies in Oyo State.
This gesture alone attracted a whole lot of ‘thank you’ for Governor Seyi Makinde from actross the country and even byond. Other states are planning to emulate this good gesture.
On health, Makinde has successfully upgraded the Radiography/Radiology facilities at the Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan.
Renovation and equipment of Oranyan Primary Health Centre also took another center stage.
To retain its name as Pace Setter in all fronts and on education development, the government of Oyo State has also embarked on upward review of the budgetary allocation to education from about 3 per cent to 10 per cent in the 2019 budget cycle.
“Cancellation of the N3,000 school fees for senior secondary school students, to encourage the enrolment of some of the 400,000 out-of-school children in Oyo State. Abolishment of entrance examination fees for pupils from Primary School to JSS1”.
The government also embarked on massive construction, rehabilitation and renovation of schools through Oyo State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) and Ministry of Education, Abuja.
“Procurement of over two million exercise books for pupils in Oyo State public primary and secondary schools, distribution of free textbooks in 13 subjects to students in Oyo State. Provision of an unprecedented N500,000 bursary to Law School students of Oyo State extraction - the bursary payment had been suspended since 2012. While return of 100 per cent subvention to state-owned institutions.”

This afternoon, Gov. Seyi Makinde received the Director General of the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu and the Country Representative of World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Fiona Braka at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
The team was on a working visit to inspect and assess the Diagnostic Centre and the Oyo State Infectious Disease Center.
The Governor in his address welcomed the team led by the Director-General of NCDC and the Country Representative of WHO, while urging them to give feedbacks that can shape the efforts of the Government in the fight against COVID-19 in the course of their inspection.
He further highlighted the achievements of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force in the containment of the virus, while seeking the support of NCDC in ensuring the certification of the laboratory at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) so as to ramp up testing in the state.
He mentioned that the public health workers in Oyo State have been at the frontline in place of hired consultants in order to empower and give them the exposure needed to better their work.
The Director-General of NCDC while speaking at the State Infectious Disease Center, Olodo after inspecting the treatment center commended the State Government for their rapid response in putting the centre to shape within a short period.

He affirmed that the treatment centre will serve Oyo state and the entire country for many years for infectious diseases control, research, and diagnosis.

The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of three truckloads of rice donated by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

The Comptroller of Nigeria Customs Service for Oyo/Osun Area Command; Comptroller Helen Ngozi made the donation of three truckloads of rice to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development this evening.

While making the symbolic donation, she noted that the Nigeria Customs is extending the donation to Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states as part of measures to cushion the hardship of Nigerians at this period.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Ojekunle Ojemuyiwa and the Executive Adviser to the Governor on Agribusiness, Dr. Debo Akande took delivery of the donation on behalf of the Governor and the Oyo State Government.

They appreciated the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS),Federal Ministry of Humanitarian and Federal Government for the benevolent gesture, while promising that the palliative measures in plan by the state would reach those who need them the most.

The donation amounted up of 1,800 (50-kilogramme) bags of rice.

Politics / OYRTMA, Oyo Fire Service Set To Launch Rapid Response Team by Oyostatemedia: 6:10pm On Apr 20, 2020
The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) is set to launch a Joint Rapid Response Team in the State, with the Oyo State Fire Service. This would enhance Oyo State Fire Service’s timely intervention to fire incidents at market places.
Speaking today in Ibadan, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Dr. Akin Fagbemi asserted that the Rapid Response Team would put an end to the complete blockade of access roads to the markets by the haphazard and indiscriminate parking of vehicles, noting that this remains a major factor standing athwart the path of fire fighters in case of emergencies.
This is coming on the heels of the recent dastard fire incident that walloped over twenty shops and stores at the Dugbe-Alawo market in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.
Fagbemi revealed that “OYRTMA, as a proactive and responsive government agency has put in place workable framework to collaborate, in a Joint Rapid Response Operation, with the State’s Fire Service”.
“While I commiserate with all affected traders in the inferno that occurred at Dugbe, may I seize this opportunity to join the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde to beseech marketers, both sellers and buyers, to maintain high level of discipline as regards road usage in the market places”, he said.
He explained that collaboration with Oyo State Fire Services will enhance effectiveness of the State Fire Service, especially when Operatives of OYRTMA  clear access roads to market places before arrival of the State Fire Service vehicles.
Mogaji Akin Fagbemi said, “this will further corroborate and enhance the efficacy of the State Fire Service by clearing access roads and towing all encumbrances that could delay timely access to the fire sources for subsequent quenching’’.  
It would be recalled that, on Wednesday, April 15 2020, over twenty shops and stores at the Dugbe-Alawo market in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, were gutted by fire.

The Federal government Relief Committee handling the distribution of Relief materials meant as palliatives for vulnerable Nigerians has been put to task over the method of carrying out it's assignment.

The Executive Chairman of the because in a statement after meeting with the News Management team expressed the frustration of the Corporation in tracing the households and individuals who were reported to have benefited from the palliatives in Oyo state.

He recalled that the Relief committee headed by the minister of Humanitarian affairs Sadiya Farouq posted that 28,282 households and 99,569 individuals have benefited from the exercise in Oyo state, but all spirited efforts made by the corporation's news apparatus to verify the figures and identify the beneficiaries have not been successful since the announcement last week.

According to Prince Dotun Oyelade, it is imperative that due diligence must be done in assisting journalists to identity the mode of payment and the criteria used that has made it impossible to trace the so-called beneficiaries.

From Ibadan to Igboho,Ikoyi-Ile,Iganna,Ayete, Ido and Egbeda,because news search reveals that no single individual or household in Oyo state has so far received any palliative from any federal government agency since the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

Prince Oyelade said that it was obvious that the Federal Government Relief Committee was only distributing palliatives to households and individuals on pages of newspapers,other mainstream media and social media.
Politics / Seyi Makinde Visits The Scene Of The Fire Outbreak At Dugbe, Ibadan by Oyostatemedia: 7:29pm On Apr 16, 2020
This afternoon, Gov. Seyi Makinde was at Dugbe-Alawo, Ibadan to access the degree of damage caused by the Inferno of Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
He empathized with the people that were affected while describing the incidence as unfortunate and heartbreaking.
The Governor said the incidence was least expected at a time when the state is battling with the social and economic impact of COVID-19.

He however added that the state government would launch an emergency fund to address disasters and emergencies.

He noted that he believe there is a need for the state to have a Disaster Management Fund, which would have given the state the opportunity to give palliatives to those affected immediately.
He assured that the government will ensure its best to assist the people affected amidst the current challenges faced in containing the COVID-19 pandemic, while admonishing shop owners and residents of the state to take precautions and safety measures within their community in order to avert unforeseen circumstances .

Gov. Seyi Makinde has signed the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA) Bill into law.

The signing of the bill into law took place at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

In his address shortly after signing the bill into law, the Governor made it known
that Agribusiness is one of the cardinal programmes of the current administration, and
signing of the Agency bill into law will give it a legal backing to run as OYSADA.

He noted that the agency will be based in Saki and the signing of its bill will enhance the commencement of full operation to kick start the Farm Estates projects in Eruwa, Ibarapa axis and Akufo, Ibadan as soon as possible.

The Governor gave insights into the advantages the Agency has to offer the state, which entails developing strategies, coordinating and implementing Agribusiness Investments/projects in the state through public, private and development partnerships which will enhance the optimisation of agro-food value chain business within Oyo state through an agricultural ecosystem that strengthens productivity, value chain growth and the processing/packaging of agro-based production.

The Executive Adviser to the Governor on Agribusiness, Dr. Debo Akande who also spoke on the signing of the bill said that Agriculture as we have known has been in practise in Oyo State for a very long time, but practiced differently. In recent times, there have been modern approaches that need to be adopted in agricultural practices.

He noted that the state aims to move from micro to small and medium enterprises in agriculture by adopting modern technology and approaches to agricultural business in the state.

He further stated that there is a need to engage in the business and management dimension which different actors will have to be engaged.

He added that the governor’s decision to sign the bill into law was reinforce his commitment to Agribusiness.

Politics / Gov. Seyi Makinde Flagged Off The COVID-19 Large Scale Testing Centre by Oyostatemedia: 9:36am On Apr 15, 2020
Yesterday, Gov. Seyi Makinde flagged off the COVID-19 Drive-Through/Walk-Through Community testing Center which will ramp up large scale testing for COVID-19 at the Lekan Salami Sport Complex, Adamasigba, Ibadan.

In his address, he made it known that the project is a culmination of weeks of planning and hardwork which commenced before the index case was recorded in the state on the 21st of March, 2020.

The Governor noted that the challenges faced are multipronged owing to the fact that there is no healthcare infrastructure that can handle a full-scale pandemic and we have a largely informal economy which requires applying solutions that are products of scientific and logical thoughts while putting our local circumstances into cognizance.

He indicated that the Oyo State COVID-19 Taskforce has been working to ensure the prevention, containment and control of COVID-19 in Oyo State.

He added that there would be a review of situation few days after the testing is increased which will ascertain the need for a targeted lock down or a total lock down of the state.

Gov. Seyi Makinde explained that the aspiration of the government is to run 10,000 mass testing for residents of the state within the shortest possible time which will start with the first 2,000 testing target and will be completed in two weeks.

He appreciated the Citizen for Citizen Initiative led by Mrs. Ibukun Awosika for donating 2,000 test kits and also Life Bank Nigeria for collaborating with the Oyo COVID-19 Taskforce to conduct the tests.

He appreciated the frontline healthcare workers in the state for putting their lives at risk while assuring that their welfare will be prioritized.

The Governor reiterated that luck is not a strategy to beat COVID-19 but logic and science.

He enjoined residents of the state to maintain social distancing - standing at least three feet apart from other people, washing of hands regularly with soap under running water or use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and more importantly, follow all guidelines pronounced from time to time by Oyo State COVID-19 Taskforce.
