Chapter 3.1

Birds flew across the skies singing their good morning. They swung, from low to high, fluttering their wings. They had no cause to be worried and certainly no anxiety.

Vince wished it was the same for him. He kept wondering how he would fair and what to expect when the time for the interview came.

Nature was at its brilliant best this morning. Vince breathed the fresh aroma that a cluster of flowers - the sweet, scented Isoria- was exuding. He gulped a lungful, momentarily forgetting about the task ahead of him.

Crayon had not stopped talking since they left the house. Vince wished the boy would stop at times. It was difficult to hear his own thoughts.

Crayon had told of the large number of people that get refused every now and then. Vince didn’t know what to make of the information. The boy’s words did little to better his already dwindling confidence.

It had even been difficult persuading Mrs. Mantel to allow him join Crayon at the school. She was of the believe that he wasn't supposed, wasn't meant, to practice magic.

She had told Vince point blank that she won't allow him go. It had been the visit of a man he remembered as Crane to get her to change her mind.

This Mr. Crane had seemed important, like a governor or lord because Mrs Mantel had been visibly shaken to see him.
What could make a full grown woman like Mrs. Mantel to be like that?

Vince would later hear that he was to begin trials the following week. He wondered what had been the breaking point.

As they edged farther into the woods, he noticed that the atmosphere changed somewhat. The birds no longer sang and the trees seemed to lean back.
They got into a thick bush with clusters of high rising grasses that Vince had a hard time brushing away from his path.

Crayon though found it very easy, sweeping away the tassels like a professional farmer. From behind, Vince could see him grin.

"You'll get used to it once you get in, " Crayon encouraged.

He liked the optimism that Crayon radiated. Vince didn't fancy his chances of being selected. He would have to see how things play out.

Finally, they were out of the bush and into a narrow path. The path ended, blocked by something he'd never expected- a snake.

Vince’s heart sank deep. He broke into cold sweat.
Snakes weren’t that much of a terror. He’d seen snakes but this was not the usual.

It was a giant snake. It’s head alone was bigger than Vince’s frame. He found his hands on Crayon's shoulder, for once, not concerned if the boy saw him frightened.

"This might be the right time to conjure a fire! " Vince said, the shaking evident in his voice.
Crayon chuckled and turning back, motioned with his hand for Vince to calm his nerves.

“Just do as I do. And please, listen carefully.”
Vince wondered what he meant. Was he going to dodge it or talk his way out? This was a snake. And for heaven’s worth, why was Crayon not afraid?
Vince wished he could shout that to his hearing because obviously, someone wasn't alright.
Expect that Crayon looked fine. The lad normally wasn't that courageous. If the kid could be scared of rats and roaches , why won’t he be afraid of a snake?
It just didn’t add up. It didn’t make sense.
Obviously, there was more to it. Vince stepped back to watch him.

The snake glided towards Crayon, stopping just short of brushing his face.

"Doors and a broom, I'm going to Rome! "
He watched with astonishment as the snake hissed. It opened its mouth and Crayon walked in.
What the heck, Vince thought.

As soon as Crayon got in, the snake shifted its gaze to face Vince.

If not that he’d emptied his bladder less than ten minutes ago, Vince was sure he’d be wet all over.
What had been drops of sweat had become literally rivers. His body was wet in seconds like he’d been swimming.

Also, the pendant had begun throbbing again.
The snake glided towards him stopping exactly the distance it had stopped for Crayon.
He recalled the words rooms and brooms but seemed lost on the others. He had to try because the snake looked like it would strike any moment.
"Doors and a broom..." He hesitated. He just couldn't recall the other words.

"Doors and a broom.. "

Another pause. Then the snake began to shift it's head back positioning for a strike.

Vince’s heart began to pound, loudly and the sweat flowed like raindrops. So much for wanting to go to school. He wondered if there was a chance he could change his mind.

I'm not interested again, Vince wanted to say.
The snake seemed to have read his thoughts as it slowly brought down its head. Vince thought that was the cue to start going back. He stepped back slowly choosing to back walk rather than having his back to the monstrous snake.

Mrs. Mantel was going to be disappointed in him. But he couldn't help it. He had to return home.
Home? Home.. He was close.
Rome!
That was it. I'm going to Rome. He had remembered the last part.
He moved forward shouting it, like the snake wouldn’t hear if he didn’t shout.

"Doors and a broom, I'm going to Rome!"
He watched as the snake opened its mouth Vince ran inside. It closed after him and then he began to be pushed down with so much speed.

He found himself screaming. Then it stopped. Opening his eyes, he saw what was the most beautiful scenery he'd ever witnessed.

Some guys, clothe in blue coats glided past riding on the air. A young boy ran after a paper kite that was zooming in and out of corners. A basket full of papers was floating in mid air. Vince was astonished at the sight.

"I'd close my mouth if I were you.. You never know what could be coming your way. "
Vince didn't even know he had left his mouth open after he had said WOW. The man who’d spoken was tall, his mouth bending slightly to the right when he spoke. He was sporting a well-trimmed moustache.
“I'm Walter, and you're next in line for the trials.”
Vince allowed him lead the way as he trudged behind, his heart pounding softly.

I want to try using pictures, screenshots actually. If it comes out good, maybe I will be updating with pictures instead. It's sometimes tiring having to re-edit to make it fit for Nairaland.

What do you think guys? I think this might even combat plagiarism issues. It's so late. Maybe I can sleep now.

Good morning guys. I'm sorry it took so long to come back. I have more free time now so I will be dropping regular updates. How fast would you have me go?

I want to have many projects finished before the end of this year. So, how many stories from me would you love to see?
BusinessRe: Paypal Is Dead! by pabon(m): 8:09am On Jun 19, 2019
i think this is true. there will be a massive adoption of the new cryptocurrency because unlike Bitcoin, Libra has a face and everyone knows who they can blame should something go wrong. With the number of people coming together to make this project a success, we believe Libra will revolutionalize the face of online payment currently available.

That said, I don't think Paypal will die. Last I check, Paypal is among the companies coming together to make this project work. I'm looking forward to seeing the ease of doing online business that this new invention will bring.
