Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has lashed out at the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government over the country’s security situation.

He argued that the Federal Government do not seem to have a solution to the insurgency situation plaguing the nation.

Naija News reports that Dalung shared his reservations during an appearance on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Friday.

He questioned the government’s failure to track bandits in the forest, but to successfully arrest anyone who criticises them.

Dalung said, “They have all the gadgets to track anybody who criticizes the government. They can pick him up in the next five minutes, but they don’t have equipment to track terrorists who display huge funds in the forest.

“So I don’t know what unity the federal government is asking Nigerians against terrorism. Nigerians are determined to deal with terrorism, but government seems not to have the political will to deal with.

“The All Progressive Congress, APC, in all ramifications, seems not to have solution to the security challenges confronting this country, and it pained me so much.

“The Federal Government has completely and woefully failed, and they don’t seem to have any iota of solution to the ravaging insecurity that is across the country.

“In Plateau State now, it is not safe for you to travel on the highways, not because of the fear of terrorism, but you will run into a community that has been displaced by terrorists, and in anger they will take over the highways and begin to attack vehicles that look like those of leaders.”

Solomon Dalung spoke the bitter truth! The APC government has all the gadgets and intelligence to track and arrest critics within minutes, but they can't track bandits displaying money openly in the forests?

This insecurity is not rocket science to solve. With proper political will, serious intelligence, technology, local vigilantes, and cutting off ransom funding, Nigeria can drastically reduce this menace. Countries with worse situations have done it.

If after all these years they still have no solution, then Nigerians have every right to ask: Does the APC government truly lack the will, or do some people in power have a hand in it? Enough is enough!

A New Call to Leadership: Security is the Foundation of Nigeria’s Future

The greatest threat facing Nigeria today is no longer inflation, unemployment, or even corruption. It is fear.

A nation where citizens are afraid to travel, afraid to farm, afraid to send their children to school, afraid to worship, and afraid to invest is a nation gradually shutting down its own economy. We must stop pretending. Something fundamental is not working, and every Nigerian feels it.

Every day, the headlines repeat the same tragic story: kidnappings, abductions, ransoms, and killings. What began on highways has spread to villages, schools, places of worship, and farmlands. Nowhere feels truly safe anymore. The most dangerous development is not the crimes themselves, but their normalization. Too many have grown numb to the bad news.

Yet every single incident of insecurity is more than a security failure. It is an economic crisis. It is an education crisis. It is an agricultural and investment crisis. It is a national development emergency.

- When farmers abandon their land out of fear, food prices rise and hunger spreads.
- When students stay home, our future is diminished.
- When investors pull back, jobs disappear.
- When professionals emigrate, our institutions weaken.

Security is not just one sector of governance — security is the bedrock of the entire economy. Nothing functions effectively without it.

To state governors across our 36 states: the excuse that you do not control the police or military is no longer sufficient. Leadership demands action. What stops state governments from equipping police stations with operational vehicles, reliable fuel, communication systems, surveillance technology, and drones? What prevents the building of robust community intelligence networks and genuine partnerships with federal security agencies?

A poorly equipped officer cannot secure lives with empty hands. We must stop treating security funding as mere expenditure. It is the most critical investment any responsible government can make.

Look at nations that command global respect. They did not rise by chance. They understood early that national security protects everything else — investment, innovation, education, and prosperity. Citizens and capital flow only where safety is assured.

Imagine a Nigeria where every security outpost is properly equipped, personnel are well-motivated, response times are swift, and communities actively support intelligence efforts. That Nigeria will unlock the full potential of its people.

Security alone will not solve every problem. Poverty, unemployment, weak institutions, and leadership failures must also be addressed. But without security, no other progress stands. It is the indispensable foundation.

Any leader — President, Governor, Senator, or Local Chairman — who measurably reduces insecurity in their domain will earn a lasting legacy. Because safety restores confidence. And confidence drives farming, investment, education, business creation, and national prosperity.

History will not judge leaders by the volume of their speeches or promises. It will judge them by one decisive question: *Did Nigerians feel safer under their watch?*

One secure community generates more wealth than a thousand political rallies. One secure Nigeria will attract more global opportunity than any policy document ever crafted.

The time for excuses is over. Nigerians deserve to live without fear. The question is no longer whether insecurity is crippling our nation — but how much longer we are willing to tolerate it.
