LadyExcellency: Ikwerres deny ancestral affiliation with South-East 4th July 2024 Ikwerres • L – R: Senator Andrew Uchendu, HRH Damian Ejiohu, Dr Stella Elechi. Godspower Onuekwa and Dr Sam Emejuru at the book presentation
By Dennis Naku Kindly share this story:
The Ikwerre ethnic nationality in Rivers State has insisted that they have no ancestral link with the South-Eastern part of the country, as being erroneously portrayed in some quarters.
They maintained that they are a distinct ethnic group in Rivers State, South-South of Nigeria, and are by no means connected to the Igbos, who are located in the South-East geo-political zone of the country.
A prominent Ikwerre elder, Sir Mike Elechi, stated this at the launch of a book titled ‘Without Prejudice: An Exploration of Ikwerre History,’ written by the late Dick Azunda Hekerem Emejuru.
Represented by His Royal Highness Damian Ejiohuo, the Nye Nwe-Ali Ndele in Emohua Local Government Area of the state, Elechi, a member of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission, who was the chairman of the occasion, said in his address that the Ikwerres have a migration history from the ancient Benin kingdom, adding, “At about 1438 AD, there was a revolution in the Benin kingdom, which led to the assassination of the heir apparent to the throne of the Oba of Benin.”
He added, “The revolution was premised on human sacrifice during a particular festival. Some princes – namely, Asava, Oniche, Akalaka and Owiri – spearheaded the revolution. All of the princes involved in the skirmish ran eastwards for safety with their families.
“Akalaka moved down with his family of two wives and children to Elele (Okani-eli). His first wife begat two sons – Ekpeye and Ogba – and the second wife begat Iwhurohna, Etche and Ngwa…The same incident that led to the Benin revolution reared its ugly head again at Elele. It was to your tents oh Israel. Ekpeye, led by his first son Ehuda, crossed the Sombriero River with Ogba, and the latter moved towards the Orashi area.
“Iwhurohna and his barrage of three wives and many children decided to remain at Elele, ‘Akwerrile naa soh nii nowa’’ meaning ‘we have decided to remain here,’ and that was how the name Ikwerre came to be.”
Former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, who was represented by Senator Andrew Uchendu, urged the Ikwerre people to be proud of who they are, stressing the roles politicians can play in preserving the Ikwerre history. Lying Elders!. Let me complete your story, whilst: Akalaka ( A bini name with Igbo meaning) migrated and founded Ikwerre, His other compatriots from Bini, namely: Asava founded Asaba Oniche founded Onicha Then, of course Owiri founded Owerri as we know it today. In conclusion, If Asaba are Igbos and will be joining SE as Anioma State capital soon, Onicha and Owerri are already in SE. Mr Chief Linus Mba, does that mean that Akalaka and his descendants should also be in SE? |

Peppermaster: Tribute to Her Royal Majesty, Obi (Dr) Martha Dunkwu, Omu Anioma - by Frank Ofili
I met her for the first time on 27th December 2017 at Idumuje Unor in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. It was at an event to confer on my friend, Michael Brian Odiakose, the title of Chief Nwadialor (wa ji aka n’abo apa) of Idumuje Unor, by His Royal Majesty, Agbogidi Obi Charles Chukwunweike Anyasi III.
Resplendent in her cultural regalia, personal elegance, and panache reminiscent of a royal salamander - akwa ocha, beads, otulaka, red cap, ugo and all – she looked royal, regal, majestic! Like an empress, she walked with a certain swagger that was at once leisurely and purposeful.
But she was more. She was cultural elegance personified. She was, in many ways, different from all the other royalty around. She exuded an aura that was indescribable – imperial, kingly – attributes that make you keep a respectful distance. Heads turned in her direction, eyes blinked in humbled reverence you could almost cut through with a knife.
Born at Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Obi Martha Dunkwu attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, Barkin Ladi, Plateau State and St. Murumba's College, Okpanam, Delta State. She worked for a couple of years in Ministry of Finance, Benin City, Edo State before proceeding to L.T.C. College of English and Secretarial Studies, London, England. She also attended South West London College, England, Henderson State University, Arkansas and University of Nevada, United State of America. Obi Martha Dunkwu was crowned Omu of Okpanam on 26th January 2002 and Omu Anioma on 15th January 2010. On 7th October 1998, His Royal Majesty, Omo N'Oba Erediauwa, CFR, Oba of Benin presented Obi Martha Dunkwu Royal Beads (Ivie-Urhu -Beaded Necklace).
She was a Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR), Member, Institute of Administrative Management (MIAM), England, Associate Member, Nigeria Institute of Management (ANIM), Past and First Female President, Asaba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ASACCIMA), Past and First Female President, Delta State Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (DELCIMMA) comprising Warri, Sapele, Asaba and Ethiope Chambers of Commerce and National Officer, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Member, Federal Government/Private Sector Committee on Technical & Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and Member of Board, National Orientation Agency.
In 2001, the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England selected Obi Martha Dunkwu to be included in the "2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st century". Excerpts of the award read: "The Oxford English Dictionary defines intellectualism as the "Doctrine that Knowledge is wholly or mainly derived from pure reason" and it follows by saying that an intellectual is a person possessing a good understanding, enlightened person". Surely, therefore, this definition is the reason for your selection to be included in this prestigious publication which is due for release in late 2001".
Obi Martha Dunkwu was granted "21st Century Award for Achievement and included in the WHO IS WHO IN THE 21st Century also by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England. On October 3rd, 2001 she became pioneer recipient of the Indomitable Spirit Award" Abuja. On 19th June 2005, Obi Martha Dunkwu was conferred Doctor of Science D.Sc degree (Honoris Causa) by Columbus International University, Virgin Island, United Kingdom.
An Inductee, Nigerian Women Hall of Fame, Abuja, holder of many Traditional chieftaincy titles in Delta and Edo states, Patron Media Correspondents Chapel of Edo NUJ, Obi Martha Dunkwu was the Public Relations Consultant to His Royal Majesty, The Oba of Benin. Her friends and colleagues in the media admiringly call her "Royal Image Maker".
Obi Dunkwu was the Chairman, Board of Governors, Martha Dunkwu Education Centre. Leadership through conviction and relationships based on fairness, loyalty and trust, makes Obi Martha Dunkwu a proven leader, media guru, efficient motivator, recognized performer, able administrator, enterprising business-person, royal image maker, committed Public Relations practitioner translating professionalism into excellence, crisis manager of the highest order and Information Manager par excellence.
A loving, devoted, caring, disciplined and God-fearing mother of a son. Obi Martha Dunkwu was an ardent believer in Nigeria's leadership of the black world.
Today, I received the sad news that Obi (Dr) Martha Dunkwu has transitted to the Great Beyond at age 69. May her soul rest in peace, Amen An Iroko has fallen. A great woman with a great personality!. Igbo race will surely miss you Okpanam, Aniocha North, Anioma, and the Igbo race mourn your departure to the great beyond. We pray for the fortitude for the family to bear the loss and also the repose of her Soul IJN Jee nke oma! |

Politics › Re: More Muslims Denounce the Sultan Of Sokoto by pandax: 2:03pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
critique99: Following my earlier thread in which I revealed the discussions among Southern Islamic preachers, we have noted significant interest in the conversation. And many Muslim faithful seem to be happy with the revelations now coming to light. New contributors to the discussion aligned with the views shared, and further denounced the Sultan of Sokoto calling him the biggest religious criminal in Nigerian history. The key point from the new discussion is:
a) who appointed Sultan as head of Nigerian Muslims? b) should a religious office be merged with Sokoto king?
Nobody could remember when, where, and how the Sultan was appointed or consecrated as Head of Nigerian Muslims.
In every other religion, there is a clear path to accession of high religious office. First, you must have lived a whole life of service to Allah, which would manifest as you climb the religious ladder, till you become a religious head. That is how it is with high religious offices, and the holders live exemplary lives. That is the way it is in all religions; the exception is with Northern Muslims. Someone becomes Sultan and immediately he assumes head of Nigerian Muslims. HELL NO. No, no, no. . It should NOT be like that. A religious office is separate from king. And before you attain such office, your exemplary life devoted to Allah must be well known to faithfuls, because they have seen you rise through the ranks. High religious offices are NOT for random people.
And as religious head, you are devoted to God/Allah. You role is to lead Muslim faithful in worship of Allah, and your religious office confers you with the authority to lead religious activities. Your whole life would have set the example for Muslims before you ever attain such office.
In Northern Nigeria, we have a Sultan who arrogated to himself the title of Head of Nigerian Muslims, but engages in all kinds of covert criminal activities, and he thinks we do not know. Take a look at the covert activities of a so-called religious leader
A) subverting democratic process [this one is fresh in our mind] B) influencing judges [Sultan calls northern Judges and encourages them to give fraudulent judgements] C) supporting criminal activities [Sultan signed numerous letters in support of Boko Haram] D) inviting Islamic terrorists to Nigeria [this year alone, Zakir Naik and Hamas have come to Nigeria] E) inciting northern military officers and giving ethnic orders [numerous testimonies abound] F) influencing and using government officials to promote northern interest [live testimony from several people] G) causing religious division [voice of Esau, hand of Jacob] H) championing the North/South divide [live testimony] I) importing migrants, killers and criminals to destabilize the nation [voice of Esau, hands of Jacob] J) driving the Fulani conquest agenda [voice of Esau, hands of Jacob, from intelligence source] No other king does these things. These are the covert activities of a man who is supposed to be Devoted to God, and guide Muslim faithful to lead righteous lives. A man who was never appointed or elected into any religious position. Since when did the Head of Muslims become an appendage of Sokoto Caliphate. Northern Nigeria is a den of illiteracy, am sorry. There is nothing right in the North, everything is upside down. A king should NOT be a religious office. Religion is Not tradition.
Fulani did NOT bring Islam to Nigeria. Fulani did NOT bring Islam to Hausa land. The Dan Fodio jihad was extremist and doesn't entitle the Sultan to be the Head of Nigerian Muslims. Sokoto jihad is not a consecration to office as Head of Nigerian Muslims. And certainly, the office of Head of Nigerian Muslims can NOT be hereditary, neither is a religious office related to traditional kingship. Religion is different from tradition. Religion is different from politics. Religion is religion. It can NOT be mixed with tradition or politics. Muslims must wake UP.
Please we need answers to the questions: a) who appointed Sultan as head of Nigerian Muslims? b) should a religious office be merged with Sokoto king?
Time is set to have the elect a new Head of Nigerian Muslims, a consecrated office whose holder is not a covert criminal. Discussions are ongoing. Please submit your opinion. Mooslem-Muslim ticket in the mud!. Tinubu is attacking the North-North now because of 2027. |

So that Igbos can allow us rest Their wahala too much.
@General Ditari. Thanks for your support. This issue has been settled between us during the 2014 Confab. We know the reason behind the latest Ijaw support to have all Igbo communities in ND back to SE. Ijaws wants to be the new overlord and move the region's capital to Yenagoa. We support Ijaw in having a distinct region from AkwaCross. They can take their kith and kin in Rivers and move westwards till Ondo if they are contiguous. We might have 5 Regions in Southern Nigeria to assuage everyone. I cannot say anything about Northern Nigeria as I do not know their nuances |

ogododo: DSS ALERTS THE PUBLIC OVER PLANNED PROTESTS
The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to plans by certain individuals and groups to stage physical protests in some parts of the country on 12th June, 2024. The protests are designed with sinister objectives to coincide with the Democracy Day Celebration. While citizens may have the rights of assembly and expression, such freedoms should not be used to undermine public safety and national security.
The determination by some non-state actors to incite mass disaffection through demonstrations that may turn violent will not be tolerated. However, it is instructive to note that violent demonstrations are at variance with the peaceful disposition of the Federal Government to amicably address all contentions including the minimum wage. Citizens are, therefore, called upon to resist any persuasions to be lawless or cause disorder and anarchy in the nation. Displeased persons are rather encouraged to appropriately channel their grievances through the right channels and procedures.
Consequently, the DSS reaffirms its unequivocal position to protect the country from inimical acts being orchestrated by disgruntled groups to cause a breakdown of law and order. It will also sustain collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, including sister security agencies, to maintain the peace as well as protect lives and property across the nation. Law abiding citizens are enjoined to go about their businesses without fear.
The Service, while felicitating the government and citizens on this auspicious occasion of celebrating 25 years of unbroken democracy, calls for continued patriotism, unity and commitment in building a Nigeria of our collective dream. Meanwhile, the DSS website, dss.gov.ng; email address- dsspr@dss.gov.ngand Telephone lines +2349153391309; +2349088373514 remain open to the public in the event that there is need to contact it.

TimeManager: Anioma is an acronyms for different subgroups, it comprises of multi-ethnic groups across the nine local government. Anioma is not an ibo-only dominated areas, Iglala, yoruba, Ika, and other ethnicities who are not identified as ibos make up the whole of Anioma. More importantly, Asaba which happens to be the capital of Delta state is untouchable, in other words, the state capital can never be carved out to somewhere else. Also is the fact that areas of a region cannot be carved out into another region, it is politically impossible. therefore, Anioma cannot be submerged into SE. If Anioma would clamour for a state, it would make it the 7th state in the SS which would be resisted by other SS stakeholders. The location of a 7th state is a tough debate in the SS region, in any event, there would be public debates across the region. Finally, Senator Ned was only flying a kite on facebook, he has the floor of the senate to move the motion but he knows there would be pandemonium in the senate
