It’s not a flawless system but enough artistes have gone through it that it’s hard not to see the appeal. But in this digital era, there’s so much more possibilities with social media and other platforms that so many artistes are beginning to prefer going the “Indie artiste” route which leads us to the question;

Where do record deals stand in an ever evolving landscape where artistes have even greater personal power?

Do they serve the purpose of helping the artiste? or Are they money makers for the labels at the expense of the artiste’s career? (as we've seen a couple of times in the Nigerian industry)
