Celebrities / That Is Not Genevieve Nnaji's Daughter Oooooooooooo by pappykay1(m): 9:33am On May 11, 2011
The pic has been circulating all over BB, Twitter, Facebook and blogs, with the caption, Genevieve Nnaji and daughter. Genevieve has a teenage daughter, but that is not her. The lady in the pic is a model. I guess the story started because of the resemblance, but she's no kin of hers. You know some people start a story as a joke and before you know it, it spreads like wildfire. The actress would never expose her teenage child like this, at a party, long weave, boobs on display, carrying a wine glass, common guys, :-)

I kid, I kid, I kid. That's Gen herself as a teenager, lol
But seriously, that's not her daughter. It will be hard to find a pic of her. The girl is only fifteen and Genevieve is overly protective of her.

Foreign Affairs / Ghanaian Woman Marries Her Dog by pappykay1(m): 1:26pm On May 10, 2011
Accra - A Ghanaian woman has married her dog because it has qualities she had seen only in her late father. Emily Mabou, 29, of Aburi, married the 18-month-old dog in a ceremony attended by a traditional priest and local, curious villagers, reports the Daily Dose.

Her younger brother David Mabou said her family boycotted the wedding which they felt was "a stupid step to combat her loneliness".
But Ms Mabou said: "For so long, I've been praying for a life partner who will have all the qualities of my dad. My dad was kind, faithful, and loyal to my mum, and he never let her down.
"I've been in relationships with so many men, , and they are all the same, skirt-chasers and cheaters. My dog is kind, and loyal to me and he treats me with so much respect."
In the ceremony, the priest warned villagers not to mock the wedding, but to "rejoice with her as she has found happiness at last".

Celebrities / Parents Begins Massive Boycott Of Aki & Pawpaw's Movies! by pappykay1(m): 1:57pm On May 09, 2011
Movies featuring popular actors, Aki and Pawpaw – real names Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita

Iheme are off the list of most watched.

Sources attribute this projection to a growing development.

Parents have initiated a massive boycott of movies featuring the child star players.

And the reason for this is said to be as grave as that of cartoons featuring demonic characters that give children nightmares.

The roles mostly played by the two actors are said to be making nonsense of the decent home training parents give their children.

The leading actors are widely known for playing the roles of truant and mischief makers in the community, in comic manners, in movies that feature them.

Independent investigations by concerned parents revealed that children here and there have started re enacting these make belief traits in real life.

Notes of cases of disrespect, and abuse of elders, extortion of peers and in some instances stealing were reportedly compared and the root cause alarmingly traced to efforts to live the characters of the movie stars in real life by the affected children.

Based on this sources alleged concerned parents initiated a growing awareness for the boycott of the movies featuring the two actors.

The boycott is said to be so wide spread that there movies now rank among pariah films such as cartoons featuring demonic in most homes.

Investigations conducted by www.societynowng.com revealed that the effectiveness of the informal ban is said to be strengthen by added campaign in some schools where teachers pointedly tag movies featuring ‘Aki and Pawpaw’ bad influence on the upbringing of children.

Movies sources confirmed to www.societynowng.com that marketers are currently experiencing a sharp drop in the patronage of movies featuring the two actors.

Their works- whether new or old- were formerly top on the most purchased list in the movie industry.

Family / Should I Tell My Dad Or Not? by pappykay1(m): 1:12pm On May 06, 2011
Should i tell or not?
well you should be able to give me an answer after hearing my story. My name is Sandra, and i am just 20 years old, and i also just gained admission into the university of Benin, i am what you can call richly blessed in physic and looks, and also look bigger than my age.(laughing)
well it all started when he came looking for my dad,and i was home alone.I had just returned from school that evening,He was suprised to see me & he said "Sandra, how are u? When did you return?"i replied and said,i'm fine sir,i came back this evening. He said, were are your parents? I replied, they went out but will soon be back. He decided to wait for them. While he was waiting in the sitting room,he asked me a couple of questions like"how is school?what are you studying? What level are you?and how is your boyfrnd?" i was shocked to hear the last question,he laughed and said, come on! You are a big girl now. I replied the rest quetions, but skipped the"how is your boyfriend part"cos i felt it was awkward answering such. We got talking about my school and why i wanted to study the course i was studying( accounting). Then he started telling how intelligent and beautiful i am,and how he has always liked and admired me & would want to have something really special with me. I was shocked to hear this, before he could continue,we heard the horn of my parents car. My parents were back. I didnt put any of what he said in mind,i taught he was pulling my legs cos afterall,he is my dads friend and also old enough to be my dad, and besides his last daughter happens to be about my age.
While he was chatting with my parents in the sitting room, my dad called me to ask me if the sales of masters form in my school was on,i said no.Then he said(my dads friend)he would want me to enquire about the form for his wife when i get back to school. He collected my number and left that day. My parents saw him off.
Since then till now,he has been calling me, sending me gifts, and also & professing his undying love for me. He even comes to my house several times all in the name of "i want to see your dad" knowing fully well that my parents are not at home.
The funniest part is that,my dad sends me on errands to his office, some times he even gives his opinion on family issues and always comes arround to chat and hangout with my parents. It is so difficult to aviod him cos he is close to my family.
The big question now is Should i tell my dad abt it? Am so confused. I need your opinions.

African music export, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face has found love again.

Just last month at an MTV event in Lagos, Idibia told anyone who cared to listen that he’s done with making babies, but his statement may be mere saying after all if the information at our disposal is anything to go by.

Insiders tell us that 2face’s new ‘African queen’ is an Abuja-based medical Doctor by the name Ojia Adamolekun. The lady, we gathered, is singer Timi Dakolo‘s ex lover.

Although details are still cloudy, our source insists 2face and the young Doctor are dating. But nobody can confirm yet, at what extent the two are planning to go with their romance.

Crime / Why I Allowed Dad To Impregnate Me -16-year-old Girl by pappykay1(m): 1:00pm On May 04, 2011
A 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly impregnated by her father, has narrated how the randy man administered oath of secrecy on her before he deflowered her. She also narrated how the suspect, Sunday Olanrele, used payment of her school fees as a bait to turn her to a sex object.

She said: “I thought he was a good father. He gave me kolanut to eat and said I would die,if I revealed the secret. So, he started kissing, and caressing me and later deflowered me. When blood started gushing out from my private part, he used pampers to cover it. I did not tell anyone because of fear.”

The victim, Bola (not real name) disclosed how her mother told her to go and bring her school fees from her estranged husband, before he took advantage of it to have canal knowledge of her. “When I went there, my daddy started doing it again. He kept promising to give me the school fees. I ended up staying with him for many months and he was making love to me severally.”

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was when she spent seven days with her father five months ago.
“He slept with me all through and when I got home, I wanted to tell my mother but I was scared. So, I kept quiet,” she broke down in tears. The embattled girl also disclosed how her parents were estranged while her mother re-married, attributing it to her present ordeal.

According to her, their mother did not visit them for five years, while she (victim) was denied the opportunity of visiting her.
It was when she wanted to commit suicide by drinking battery fluid that one of her aunties took her and her younger brother to Ikorodu, Lagos State. It was also from Ikorodu that she went to her father’s house. “While I was in my father’s house, he brought out a calabash and kolanut and told me to swear an oath that I would not divulge what he was about to do with me.”

She explained that when her monthly menstrual circle ceased, she did not bother to disclose it to anybody. But her mother was said to have got information about the pregnancy and took her to a pastor, where she spilled the beans. The pastor was said to have given her assurance that she would not die, if she disclosed what transpired between her and her father.

“I told him that my father was responsible for the pregnancy,” she said.
The victim’s mother (names withheld) told Daily Sun she suspected a foulplay immediately her daughter came back from her father’s house. “I started perceiving offensive odour and asked her if she visited someone else, apart from her father and she said no. I called the father on phone and inquired the time she left his house and he told me. I reasoned that if she had gone to another person’s house, she wouldn’t have got home the time she did. From there, I knew something was wrong,” she said, fuming.

The woman disclosed that she later brought a magazine and showed her a story of where a father impregnated his daughter.
“She was devastated after reading the story. That was when I knew that the father had done something abominable.”
Few weeks later, the girl started showing pregnancy symptoms. “I took her to the hospital for pregnancy test and it indicated that she was four months pregnant. I requested to know who was responsible and she refused to tell me,” she said.

That was when she took her to the pastor where she opened up. The angry mother said she was now faced with the shame associated with the stigma on the family. “I’m confused, I am ashamed of the stigma. The pregnancy is over five months now. So, abortion is out of it. I’m in a dilemma now. I can’t procure abortion of five months old foetus,” she lamented.

The suspect, who admitted committing the crime, said he didn’t know what came over him that made him to deflower his daughter.
“I think, it is the devil’s plan to destroy me. I know it is an abominable act. I’m sorry, I regret my action. Nigeria police and my estranged wife should forgive me,” he said.

Business / You Must Not Withdraw/deposit More Than N150k Daily - Cbn by pappykay1(m): 12:18pm On May 04, 2011
From June 2012, individuals that make cash withdrawal or deposit above N150,000 would pay a fine of N100 per extra N1,000, while corporate organisations that make cash withdrawal or deposit above N1 million would pay fine of N200 per extra N1,000.

These limits for free cash withdrawal and deposits were part of a new policy aimed at reducing the high usage of cash in the economy announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday.

The policy, which would be enforced in Lagos State, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Aba in the first instance also banned encashment of third party cheques above N150,000 across the counter

The policy was contained in a circular signed by Mr Muhammad Nda, Director, Currency Operations Department and addressed to all banks, Cash In Transit (CIT) companies and electronic payment providers.

The circular entitled: “Industry policy on retail cash collection and lodgement” stated: “In view of increasing dominance of cash in the economy with its implication for cost of cash management to the banking industry, security, money laundering, etc., the Central Bank of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Bankers Committee, is adopting policies to reduce the high usage of cash, moderate the cost of cash management and encourage the use of electronic payment channels. Consequently, the Central Bank of Nigeria hereby directs as follows:

The limits

“Commencing from June 1, 2012, a daily cumulative limit of N150,000 and N1,000,000 on free cash withdrawals and lodgments by individual and corporate customers respectively with Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) shall be imposed. To this end, individuals and corporate organisations that make cash transactions above the limits will be charged a penal fee of N100/thousand and N200/thousand respectively for amounts above the cumulative limits.

“Contravention of this policy shall attract a fine of five (5) times the amount that the bank waives as a first offender. Subsequently, the bank shall pay ten (10) times the charges waived.

“Furthermore, 3rd party cheques above N150,000 shall not be eligible for encashment over the counter. Value for such cheques shall be received through the clearing house.
Penalties

“If a bank allows 3rd party cheque encashment, it shall be liable to a sanction of 10% of the face value of the cheque or N100,000 whichever is higher.

“Banks will cease cash in transit lodgment services rendered to merchant_customers from June 1, 2012. In this regard, customers could engage the services of the CBN licensed cash-in-transit (CIT) companies to aid cash movement to and from their banks at mutually agreed terms and conditions. Contravention of this policy shall attract a fine of N1.0 million per specie movement.

“This arrangement shall be in force in Lagos State, FCT, Port Harcourt, Kano and Aba in the first instance. The arrangement shall be extended to other parts of the country at a date to be determined by the Bankers Committee.”
“To achieve interoperability of local currency POS transactions, no card scheme, foreign or local, shall operate exclusive acquirer agreement or contract in Nigeria with effect from June 1, 2011. Any payments scheme, processor, switching company, service provider or

bank that contravenes this policy may be suspended for a minimum of one (1) month by the CBN as a processor, switching company, service provider etc in the first instance. The license may be withdrawn by the CBN if the contravention is repeated.

“This policy shall apply to both private and public sector transactions. All financial institutions including Deposit Money Banks, Savings and Loans, Mortgage and Microfinance Banks shall comply accordingly.

“Compliance with the policy shall be monitored by the Banking Supervision Department and the Other Financial Institutions Supervision Department with appropriate sanction applied to erring institutions.

“While the Central Bank of Nigeria will make general announcements and carry out public awareness programmes individual banks are expected to do same. The affected customers of banks should be informed in good time by the banks with clear advice on alternative electronic payment channels available to them.”

Nairaland / General / Efcc Rearrests Former Bank Chiefs, Directors by pappykay1(m): 11:44am On May 04, 2011
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday rearrested the former chief executive officers of AfriBank, Finbank, Union and Intercontinental banks and eight other directors in Lagos. According to Femi Babafemi, the commission’s spokesperson, the arrests were based on fresh discoveries. While confirming the arrest of Erastus Akingbola, the former managing director of Intercontinental Bank who was out on bail after a series of court appearances, Mr Babafemi said: “These are fresh charges but they are related — not only him, but three other former MDs (managing directors) and eight other directors; about eleven of them are arrested.”

Mr Babafemi, however, did not give details of the names of the eight directors that were arrested and when they might be charged to court.

“I know Akingbola will be charged to court tomorrow,” he said.

Mr Babafemi also confirmed that Sebastian Adigwe of Afribank, Bartholomew Ebong of Union Bank and Okey Nwosu of Finbank who were also rearrested would soon be charged to court.

Lamido Sanusi, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, had been in office for barely two months when he sacked the CEOs on August 14, 2009 and replaced them with new management. Mr Sanusi said that in building public confidence in the Nigerian banking system, the CBN would exercise zero tolerance on professional and unethical conduct.

“We will not allow any bank to fail,” Mr Sanusi said that Friday morning while announcing the sacking of the bank chiefs and the injection of about N420 billion into the rescued banks. “However, we will also ensure that officers of banks and debtors who contribute to bank failures are brought to book to the full extent of the law and that all proceeds of infraction are confiscated where legally feasible.”

Mr Sanusi also released the banks’ bad debt numbers which totalled over N716 billion. Oceanic Bank was owed N278.204 billion in nonperforming loans; Intercontinental, N210.903 billion; Afribank, N141.856 billion; Union N73.582 billion; and FinBank, N42.445 billion.

Plea bargaining

Sacked managing director of Oceanic Bank, Cecilia Ibru, has already pleaded guilty to the charges and forfeited N191 billion worth of assets and bagged an 18-month suspended jail sentence in the process. Mrs Ibru was released after six months due to poor health. The remaining suspects have been on trial since their sack. They were charged for various offenses including conspiracy to grant unsecured credit facilities, conspiracy to manipulate share prices, reckless consideration of credit facilities without adequate security and failure to present their monthly statements of account to the Central Bank. The anti-graft agency said then that the charges could still be amended as the trial progressed. Mr Nwosu of Finbank was arraigned on an 11-count charge. Mr Akingbola was on the run for over a year before his return last year. Other directors of Intercontinental Bank that have been arraigned include Raymond Obieri, Samuel Adegbite, Christopher Adebayo, Olusegun Ajibola, Sunny Adams, Isiyaku Umar and Bayo Dada who were all remanded in EFCC custody before they were eventually granted bail. They were arraigned on a 27-count charge.

Their attackers appeared to be organised and they were told to line up and in turn had their hands amputated. Those who tried to escape had their limbs chopped off. But some of them managed to escape and have alerted the authorities.

The victims are in separate hospitals undergoing treatment. Many terrified youth corpers are said to be migrating away from Kaduna State to their respective states of origins. So far the authorities, in order to prevent the risk of reprisal attacks, have refused to disclose the number of dead victims. Reports indicated thousands of youth corpers were salughtered with about 35,000 receiving treament or displaced.

The Nigeria Police Force and the military have made their presence felt and effecting arrests. Family / Husband Charged To Court For Pouring Acid On His Beautiful Wife by pappykay1(m): 12:45pm On Apr 20, 2011
A suspect, Samson Igbinomewahin, 47, was on Monday arraigned at an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly pouring acid on his wife, Mrs. Susan Jeremiah, 31.

Jeremiah, a corporal in the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police in Ikoyi, Lagos, was brought to court with one side of her body disfigured by the acid attack.

Igbinomewahin was charged with attempted murder. The charge sheet read in part that Igbinomewahin “on the 9th of March, 2011, at block 8, room 31, Obalende Police Barrack, Lagos…did unlawfully attempt to kill Susan Jeremiah by pouring acid substance on her body and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 320 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 17 Vol. II Laws of Lagos State 2003.”

The Magistrate, Mrs. Helen Omisore, had earlier asked Igbinomewahin if he wanted to be tried at either the magistrate or higher court before his plea was taken.

The suspect, who chose to be tried in the magistrate court, thereafter pleaded not guilty.

Igbinomewahin’s lawyer, Mr. Olatunde Kolawole, urged the court to grant him bail, saying the issue was “a domestic accident.” Besides, he told the court that the suspect had been in custody for more than a month.

At this point, Igbinomewahin interrupted the court proceeding by telling his lawyer that he had been detained for more than two months.

The magistrate shouted the suspect down and asked the court orderly to stand beside him in order to prevent further interruption.

But the victim’s lawyer, Mr. Lucky Oizimende , objected the bail application. He told the court that Jeremiah was still in intensive care, adding that, “what would stop him from going back to kill her?”

PUNCH METRO gathered that Igbinomewahin and his wife, whom he married in 2009, had been having running battles on his insistence that his wife should finance his proposed trip to Malaysia.

As part of the plan, our correspondent gathered that the suspect asked his wife to sell off her landed property and use the proceeds to facilitate his supposed trip.

Igbinomewahin was said to have promised his wife that she would join him when he settled down in Malaysia. PUNCH METRO, however, learnt that Jeremiah was skeptical about this arrangement.

Before the incident, our correspondent learnt that Jeremiah had already filed for divorce and the matter was still pending in another court.

As a result of the pending suit, the couple no longer live together. But the marriage is blessed with a child.

Police investigation revealed that on the fateful day, the suspect allegedly visited his estranged wife and brought a polythene bag into her apartment at police barracks, Obalende, and told his wife that it contained their baby’s food. It was learnt that when Jeremiah saw the content, she became suspicious and fled.

Igbinomewahin allegedly ran after her and poured the content in the polythene bag on her through the window.

The magistrate however adjourned ruling on the bail application till April 29, 2011, and ordered the suspect to be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons.

Celebrities / New Movie Trailer: “somewhere In Africa” Starring Majid Michael by pappykay1(m): 1:00pm On Apr 19, 2011
Ghanaian actor Majid Michel is all set to break new barriers and shock a lot of fans as he walks in the award winning but unsafe shoes of top investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The top actor, who is most often described as a ‘screen bad boy’, is relegating some of the ‘bad boy’ traits to the background to play the role of an investigative journalist in his upcoming movie titled ‘Somewhere In Africa’.

This role is to clearly appreciate the good works of some investigative journalists and Anas is one of such persons in Ghana. Majid is playing the role of a struggling undercover journalist, who is trying to get a very big break. However his editor is making this mission a near impossibility.

Aside that, all is also not well at home as he does not have time for his family because he is always traveling from one country to another to investigate stories. Majid, a father of two, has played different roles in countless movies but the performance he puts out in ‘Somewhere in Africa’ is unprecedented.

He is playing the role of a journalist despite his several unpleasant encounters with members of Ghana’s inky fraternity, especially entertainment writers. NEWS-ONE visited Majid while he was on location shooting the said movie and this was what he had to say:

“So far, this is the most difficult thing compared to any other movies that I have done.

Sometimes, when we finish shooting, it takes us about two hours to just get the make-ups off. We also have to talk in a certain accent which is unusual.” – Majid Michael

He actually played two different characters in the movie. He acted as a journalist called Frank and then as the wicked King Mumbasa of a Kingdom in Africa called Kinbala.

The director, Frank Raja, said he had been working on the movie for the past one and half years and expressed the hope that it would cause a big stir when it finally comes out. “This is a movie enthusiasts would want to see. I have planned this movie several years back and I had to put myself together and make sure that all the props are ready.
I will not say much but I will say it is a fantastic movie and Africa should watch out for us. I know this is not going to be my best as far as film production is concerned but this movie is sure going to be the best I have ever made,” Frank Raja told NEWS-ONE.

Celebrities / Super Falcon Orisabunmi: Still Playing The Ball by pappykay1(m): 11:52am On Apr 19, 2011
Folake Orisabunmi Aremu
The African Movies Academy Awards held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, lured celebrated actress, Folake Orisabunmi Aremu, out of her shells. She speaks on her exploits in the film world, writes AKEEM LASISI

She was a teacher in Ilorin, Kwara State when she met veteran actor and producer, Jimoh Aliu. On sighting her, the talent recognition instinct in the producer of popular TV dramas and films, Arelu, Agbaarin and Yanponyanrin, reared its head. He expressed his interest in her and invited her to an arena where he was shooting a movie in the ancient city.

On getting there, she decided to play a role in the film. She played it so convincingly that Aliu could not let her go in any way. This marked the beginning of a career that has given Folake Aremu, popularly called Orisabunmi, a tremendous fame.

In many of the plays and films she has featured in, she is either a pacifist priestess or a beautiful woman causing a fierce battle between strong men. As a result, she comes armed with magical powers expressed in incantations and some other mysterious manifestations. While these have endeared her to many fans of Yoruba films for years, however, Orisabunmi has not been very visible on the scene in recent years.

But those who have missed her face had an opportunity to meet her in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, last week, as she was one of the stars that graced the African Academy Movie Awards. Asked if she had retired from the business, she eagerly declares that she is still very much in the race.

“I am still acting,” she notes. “The ball of acting and movie making is still in our court. We will play it till it gets torn.”

Reliving her experience, she notes that the efforts she and other veterans had to put in the past were more than what goes into film making now. The pioneers, according to her, had to work extra hard to sow the fruits that many new comers now reap. Since technology was scanty then, they had to rely on raw talent, discipline, tutelage and determination to achieve what became the foundation for the industry.

Orisabunmi explains, “At the beginning, many people looked down on us. They called us alarinjo – street dancers. Others said we were prostitutes. But thank God, things have changed now.”

She is currently working on a film whose title she prefers not to reveal yet. Recently, she was in the US where parts of the film were shot. Apart from meeting US-based artistes and networking with other stakeholders, she also visited various places of interest.

“Face to face, I saw people I had not met before. They gave me an award in New Jersey,” Orisabunmi says, adding that she took along copies of her films such as Atupa, Ma Binu Ori and Etekete to the Obama country.

On what efforts are still being made to promote Jimoh Aliu’s old classics, she notes that Arelu, Yanponyanrin and Fopomoyo are now in VCD. Only Agbaarin is still in video cassette.

On the relationship between Aliu, who introduced her into acting, now, Orisabunmi says it is cordial. They got married but separated later, after which she married her current husband.

She says, “Before, Jimoh Aliu was my husband. Now, he is my father.”

Celebrities / Empress Njamah Vs Rihanna | Battle Of The Red Heads by pappykay1(m): 11:26am On Apr 19, 2011
I dunno about you guys but the first time I spotted Rihanna with her red hair…I thought “What the F?…This girl doesn’t surround herself with people that care about her” and that was the exact thought I had when I saw pictures of Nollywood actress Empress Njamah at the Encomium Black & White Ball, which took place last weekend in Lagos, Nigeria.

But you know what? Rihanna’s hair has grown on me…she’s switched up the styles and her wig seems to have settled of that big ole forehead of hers, she’s pulling it off better now.

I am hoping against hope the same goes for Empress…

Cos from this picture the colour doesn’t look too bad with her skin tone…there’s just a lot going on…with the eyeshadow…the lipstick…the hair style too doesn’t help the colour.

She’s a bold chick sha! She once had white hot blonde hair! (see picture after the jump)

Celebrities / How I Emerged The Hottest Yoruba Actor,top Actor.odunlade Adekola Speak by pappykay1(m): 2:46pm On Apr 18, 2011
In the Yoruba sector of nollywood today, one thing is very obvious. And that is the fact that Odunlade Adekola is the most sought-after actor in the industry. No cast seems to be complete without giving the Abeokuta bred actor a significant role in it. The tall and good looking thespian who recently added a bundle of joy to his young family is surely an actor with depth and thoroughness and that seems to have been the cutting edge for him so far. Recently, Saheed Ojubanire caught up with the easy-going actor who won the award of the best actor of the year in the maiden City People Entertainment Award last year, at H.Kod hotel, Abeokuta, where he came to shoot a movie. He spoke about why he is very hot, his relationship with female colleagues and fans and why he was not able to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer. Excerpt.

Nairaland / General / 11 Years Old Girl Forced Into Marriage For 3 Years! by pappykay1(m): 12:47pm On Apr 15, 2011
Ntito Piere (not real names) was kidnapped in 2009 at Ondo town, Ondo State as she was returning from school.
She was allegedly taken to Benin City, Edo State, by her abductor, Sunday Akpan. The suspect allegedly confined her to a secluded apartment, where he had sex with her regularly.
The girl, however, regained her freedom, when the Lagos State Police Command arrested the alleged abductor, who relocated from Benin to Lagos.
Trouble started for the little girl, when Akpan, a commercial motorcyclist (okada rider) accosted her on her way back from school and lied that her parents paid him some money to bring her home.
God, however, answered her parents’ prayers last week, when police raided the suspected abductor’s residence in Lagos, where they found the missing girl, who had already been abused by the man, who is old enough to be her father.

A police officer, who gave account of how the man was arrested, described it as a miracle, as all hopes to re-unite with her were lost by both the police and the girl’s family. He narrated how a case of a missing girl was reported in Ondo State three years ago, and the signals were sent to all the police commands.

He said after thorough search for the girl without success, the parents resigned to fate, while the police continued investigation. He disclosed that a few days after, another case of missing 13-year-old girl was reported in Benin, where one Akpan was fingered by informants during investigation.
According to him, Akpan was trailed to Lagos and was arrested and the girl found in his custody.
He said the suspect confessed kidnapping the girl in Ondo because her father refused to give him his eldest daughter for marriage.

The suspect also confessed wanting to convert the second abducted girl to his second wife. He disclosed that his mode of operation was to kidnap his victim in a town and relocate with her to another state.

Akpan told Daily Sun said he did not mean to harm the girl. “I love the family of the girl very well. I went to request their daughter’s hand in marriage but my request was turned down.”
He said since he was determined to marry from the family, he decided to abduct the girl. “I took her as my wife. I did not maltreat her throughout the years she lived with me. She has become part of me.”
He pleaded with the police to let him go.

On the second girl he abducted, he said she was the daughter of a motorcycle mechanic. “I found out that her father was maltreating her, so I decided to take her to my house to enable me give her good training,” he said. The joy of the parents of the missing but rescued girl, knew no bounds as they rejoiced over what they regarded as the miracle of the century.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State police spokesman, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, has commended detectives who arrested the man. He said the victims had been handed over to their parents, while the suspect would soon be charged with abduction, defilement and other related offences.

Education / 7 Year Old Nigerian Girl In Secondary School. by pappykay1(m): 11:43am On Apr 15, 2011
She is, without a doubt, a genius. At seven, when many of her peers are still in primary three, little Atiyatullahi Arike Lawal has already gained admission into the Junior Secondary School (JSS).

Many people agree that the brilliant girl has performed a rare feat.

When schools in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital resumed for the 2010/2011 academic session recently, Atiyatullahi was the cynosure of all eyes as she joined other students at the Ikija High School, Abeokuta, where she had been admitted for her junior secondary education.

The first of her parents’ three children, Atiyatullahi isn’t just an academic whiz kid; she’s also a devoted Muslim. By the time she turned five, she had actually completed the reading of the Holy Quoran. Right now, she’s studying Arabic literature books.

When Daily Sun ran into the brilliant girl, she was so confident of what she wants to be in life. “With God on my side and with prayers, which I believe in, I hope to make a career in law. I want to be a lawyer so that I can be of great help to my immediate community in particular as well as serve mankind in general,” she said.

The girl’s dad, Mr. Lawal, said Atiyatullahi began manifesting uncommon brilliance when she took interest in reciting many books offhand. At the time, he recalled, she was just four.

“We discovered her at four because she used to recite so many things offhand, including many of the things she learnt in school. Initially, we were worried about her academic development, but later we discovered that she could read and understand English very well.

“Ordinarily, it is difficult to believe that at her age, she is already in JSS I, but that is the reality. During her primary education, particularly when she was between classes 2 and 4, she had double promotion. At that time she was at the Baptist Day School. That was between 2008 and 2009. That was where she also completed her education.”

Atiyatullahi’s parents are both teachers, and she started her education at a very young age. According to her dad, she started kindergarten when she was just two. She attended Ayodele Akode Memorial Nursery/Primary School as well as Almubarak Nursery and Primary School.

And when she was asked what her favourite subjects were, the girl retorted innocently: “My favourite subjects? I like English Language and Mathematics, but I prefer English Language.”

The girl never attended an Islamic school, but on March 15, 2008, she celebrated her Wolimat Al Quoran (completion of reading of the Holy Quoran). Her father actually took her through the study of the Islamic holy book himself. He had mastered the holy book at 25.

“I introduced her to the reading of the holy book precisely on January 6, 2007, and miraculously, she completed the introductory reading within two days. We are surprised that about a week to her fifth birthday, on November 25, 2007, she completed the recitation. She then started another aspect, which is Jurisprudence.

Lawal’s extraordinary intellectual abilities and mastery of the Quoran as well as her admission into the JSS I at such a tender age is already causing ripples, with many wondering whether such is actually possible.

An educationist, Mr. Olayiwola Oyenekan, while reacting to Atiyatullahi’s feat, noted: “It is a rare achievement, but the great challenge is for her to sustain it. A genius like that has the tendency to rubbish her records if she is not well guided, especially by her parents.

“An adage in Yoruba says it is not the beginning that matters, but the ability to sustain the rare feat. Her parents must ensure that she does not derail along the way. I recommend that they monitor her studies and ensure that she gets to the Promise Land, I mean the university, between the ages of 13 and 14.’’

An Islamic cleric, Alhaji Mohammed Tajudeen who commented on the ingenuity of the girl advised that her parents should guide her in the ways of God.

“She should be guided and shown the way of God,” he said. “She must be taught the principles of God and they should allow her move closer to God. She needs fervent prayers to actualize her dreams in life,” he said.

Romance / Girl Sacrificed Herself For Love by pappykay1(m): 11:36am On Apr 15, 2011
Detectives at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos, are quizzing a 23-year-old law student of the University of Lagos, Fisayo Tifase, over the death of his girlfriend, Peace Asukwo, 17, whose corpse was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his one-room apartment at 10, Kalejaiye Street at Shasha in Lagos on November 4.

The suspect and the victim were involved in a love affair, but things came to a head on that fateful day when they reportedly had an argument. “After telling her that I am no longer interested in the relationship, I left her in the room and she locked herself up,” said Mr Tifase. “I did not know that she can kill herself the way she did by hanging herself in my room. This is a suicide case and people should not think that I killed my girl friend. I love that girl to a point of no return and I can never do anything to hurt her. She killed herself, she sacrificed herself for our love, and this is what I will live with.”

Relationship gone sour

“Before this incident happened, I had been hearing rumours that she was not faithful to me but since I did not have any proof, I decided to let it pass,” he said. “But a day before this thing happened, I called her and she told me that she was at Ikeja to collect N20,000 from a man; that her sister sent her there when it was like 9pm. I called her again and she said she will be spending the night there. So I told her that her sister was using her to get money from men; she denied it and I was angry. The next day, when she came to my room, I tried to avoid her but she would not leave my room. Later that evening, I went into the room and told her that I cannot continue with the relationship anymore; that I do not trust her. She begged and begged, but my mind was made up and she saw that I meant what I said. I asked her to leave but she refused, so I left her in the room. She locked herself from the inside and when I came back to check on her, she refused to open the door. I continued to knock but she did not answer. When it was getting dark, I had to do something so that was how we forced the door open and we saw her body hanging from the ceiling. It was a shock to me and I did not believe my eyes. I just kept shouting. ‘Peace why, why, why’ and that was how people came and the police arrested me.”

Confident in autopsy

Mr Tifase is hinging his hopes on an autopsy, which he believes will convince the police that he did not kill his girlfriend. “I am very angry and sad about Peace’s death and I have never stopped mourning her,” he said.

“I love her and it affected me so badly that my CGPA fell from 4.3 to 4.0 last session. The message she has passed across to me is that she will rather die than lose my love. She paid the ultimate price for our love and I am willing to face any consequence, but God knows that I am innocent. If the police can allow me to swear to any oracle, I can swear to it because I did not hang her. I am learning the hard way. I am supposed to be in school studying and now I am in this mess. Young people should hold on to God and take their studies seriously after that they can look for mature people to share their lives with. For me, if God helps me out of this case, I do not know yet what to do about women. I am psychologically down and it seems I will lose my mind because of the way my girlfriend died. I am now closer to God and I know He will vindicate me”

Nairaland / General / Police Arrest Woman Smuggling Rifles In Maize by pappykay1(m): 11:18am On Apr 15, 2011
Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of trying to smuggle assault rifles hidden in sacks of maize from neighbouring Chad to help arm a radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The 37-year-old mother of seven was caught in possession of ten AK-47 rifles hidden in the sacks after travelling by boat across Lake Chad, which sits on Nigeria's remote northeastern border with Chad and Cameroon, police said.

"The illegal arms were concealed but recovered inside four bags of maize," Mohamed Jinjiri Abubakar, the Police Commissioner for Borno State, told Reuters. "Available information suggests the suspect arrested was behind the aiding of religious fundamentalists unleashing terror on innocent civilians in Borno."

Boko Haram, a radical Islamic sect behind an uprising last year which led to clashes in which hundreds died, has been blamed for torching police stations and fatal sniper attacks on police officers and local leaders in Borno in recent weeks.
Local authorities have long said Boko Haram is supported by members from neighbouring countries. Hundreds of immigrants have been deported back to Chad, Cameroon and Niger as part of a security crackdown.

It is unclear how many followers Boko Haram has, but poverty, unemployment and a lack of education have meant its leaders have managed to build a cult-like following which is as much violently anti-establishment as fervently religious.

Its views are not espoused by the vast majority of Nigeria's Muslim population, the largest in sub-Saharan Africa.
