The Nigerian civil war was a bloody conflict that occurred between 1967 and 1970 when the Igbo people and other ethnic groups in the East and Southern areas of Nigeria attempted to secede. This was due to the pogrom carried out on Igbo people across the country, especially in the North. There is still a lot of argument on whether it was a deliberate genocide; a war of ethnic cleansing to wipe out the Igbos, or not.
