Food / Smoky BBQ Crunchy Roasted Crickets Are Now On Sale At Sainsbury's by patricklaw: 2:33pm On Nov 22, 2018

Recently, Sainsbury has come out to announce that "Smoky BBQ crunchy roasted crickets" will be on the counter at over 245 stores around the UK.
Sainsbury's has become the first UK high street supermarket to stock edible insects.

Barbecue-flavour roasted crickets are being put on sale in 250 stores across the country from Sunday.

The Eat Grub's "smoky BBQ crunchy roasted crickets" are described as "crunchy in texture with a rich smoky flavour"
Packets of the insects will cost £1.50.

The grubs have been on sale from online supermarket Ocado for at least five months, with mixed reviews.

Sainsbury's suggests the crickets can be eaten as a snack or used to garnish dishes such as tacos, noodles and salads.

Investment / Top Essential Successful Forex Trading Skills | Top 4 Forex Trading Strategies by patricklaw: 3:15pm On Nov 21, 2018
Forex, also known as foreign exchange, FX or currency trading, is a decentralized global marketwhere all the world's currencies trade. The forex market is the largest, most liquid market in the world with an average daily trading volume exceeding $5 trillion. In today’s digital age, just about anyone can try their hand on the forex market.
When it comes to selecting strategies to trade, you have the choice between buying one off-the-shelf or trawling the Internet for freebies.

However, this doesn’t mean that anyone and everyone should start placing investments on this potentially risky trading opportunity. Here, we break down a handful of the essential skills necessary to become successful in the forex market, helping you decide whether you’re cut out for the fast-paced world of 24/5 currency trading.

Meticulous record keeping
Often overlooked but nonetheless of vital importance, the ability to be meticulous in your record-keeping and trade-tracking is of undeniable benefit to the profitable forex trader.

A trader who stays on top of their admin, recording the results of their trades with conscientious care, is more inclined to discover a prosperous strategy. This is because, in order to improve your strategy, traders must simply refer back to their previous trades, tweaking tried and tested methods to find one that works for them. Though it can be quite intensive, keeping on top of the books will help you reap the potential benefits the forex market has to offer.

Strong mathematical and analytical ability

Regardless of which market you choose to trade in, every potential investor simply must have a strong set of mathematical and analytical skills. When trading on short-term spreads on the forex market, you’ll be dealing in currency pairings. This is presented as two numbers, side by side, which can initially be quite confusing without the right knowledge and understanding. Fiercely fast mental maths will help you decode these quickly, working out potential profits and losses and deciding how much you can afford to invest.

Likewise, the ability to analyze data quickly will further benefit you in the forex world. Naturally, there’s a lot of math involved in currency trading, but this is often presented in the form of daunting technical charts, indicators, and patterns. To the newbie, this data is worthless without an existing understanding of data analysis, translation and interpretation, so a fundamental comprehension of these concepts is necessary in order to develop your own strategy and technique.

The easier you can understand the data presented, the more effectively your technique will develop, leading to the potential for far greater success in this technical market. The most successful forex traders have total analytical proficiency, helping them translate data to make informed predictions based on the indicators and systems they’re using.

Business / New Minimum Wage Update: Buhari To Study Report Before Any Approval – FG by patricklaw: 10:36pm On Nov 07, 2018
The Federal Government says President Muhammadu Buhari will study the report of the Tripartite Committee on the Review of National Minimum Wage before making his view known to Nigerians.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made the clarification when he addressed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which was presided over by President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tripartite Committee on the Review of National Minimum Wage chaired by former Head of Service, Ama Pepple, had on Tuesday submitted its report to President Buhari with a recommendation of N30,000 as new National Minimum Wage.

While receiving the Tripartite Committee Report, President Buhari pledged that the Federal Government would soon transmit an Executive Bill (on National Minimum Wage) to the National Assembly for its passage within the shortest possible time.

He said: “Our plan is to transmit the Executive bill to the National Assembly for its passage within the shortest possible time.

“I am fully committed to having a new National Minimum Wage Act in the very near future.’’

To this end, some traditional media outfits and the social media reported that the president had endorsed the Pepple’s recommendation of N30,000 minimum wage.

But, the minister said the president was only in receipt of the recommendations of the Ama Pepple’s Report, and he would consider it before making his views known to the public.

Recall that, New Minimum Wage | New Minimum Wage Meeting To Continue On Sunday – Ngige

He said: “I think it was a recommendation. So, Mr President will consider it and would make his views known in due course.

“So, like I said recommendations have been made and Mr President would get back to the committee after he has studied the recommendations.’’

Jobs/Vacancies / Bill To Remove Age Barrier Against Job Seekers Passes Second Reading by patricklaw: 10:23pm On Nov 07, 2018
On Wednesday, a bill to eradicate age discrimination against job seekers in the Federal Government Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) passed a second reading in the House of Representatives.

The bill is sponsored by Sergius Ogun (APC, Edo) and Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos).

“Bill for an Act to Eradicate the Age Discrimination against Job seekers in Federal Government Agencies; and for Related Matters (HB. 1502)”

Ogun, moving a motion for a second reading of the bill, said the new law seeks to ensure that no Nigerian job seeker is disqualified from government employment on the basis of age.

He further stated that the bill, when enacted, would first take effect in Federal Government MDAs with the hope that private employers of labour would later follow suit .

“It is a key responsibility of we parliamentarians, as representatives of the people, to ensure that no Nigerian job seeker is discriminated against with regard to age in employment opportunities in Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” Ogun submitted.

The lawmaker added that the bill would also ensure that the fundamental human rights of job seekers are safeguarded while significantly reducing the spiralling number of unemployed graduates and school leavers on the streets.

He lamented that the incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has made it almost impossible for Nigerian university students to graduate within stipulated time, hence the necessity of the bill.

Meanwhile, Benson, a co-sponsor of the bill, pointed out that apart from age, sex, religion and ethnicity, were other variables in which discrimination is rampant in government employment.

He therefore called for the abolition of such barriers that “deprives qualified, energetic, and patriotic Nigerians the opportunity to fulfil their goals and contribute to societal development.”

Crime / Mambilla Plateau Crisis | Over 264 Persons Feared Dead – Ishaku by patricklaw: 10:04pm On Nov 07, 2018
Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku, on Wednesday disclosed that 264 persons were confirmed to have been killed and property worth billions of naira destroyed during the 2017/2018 crisises on the Mambilla Plateau, Sadauna local government area of the State.

Ishaku, who regretted the casualty figure, however, said: “The Assessment Committee which visited 53 communities in the area, discovered that 264 people were killed and not the over 1000 as reported by the media.”

He added that “209 residents were displaced, 19,464 cattle, 6071 sheep killed while a tea processing plant, among other valuable properties were burnt.”

The governor gave the sum of N310 million to the victims. He presented Cheques to beneficiaries Wednesday. Relief materials were also donated to alleviate their sufferings.

The reliefs were given in Gembu -the headquarters of Sadauna, through the Crisis Victims Support Scheme phase one, which was introduced by the governor.

“I am not here to compensate the victims of the crisis that occurred here on Mambila Plateau. Government does not have enough to compensate you on how much you lost, left alone the number of human beings that were killed.

“I am here to support you so that you can start living relatively better; to also encourage you to co-exist in harmony.”

The governor warned the people of Mambilla and Tarabans to “exercise restraint”, as he urged all to be law abiding and to always consult traditional rulers when there is confusion.

Business / Iran Oil Update: Eight Importers Permitted By U.S To Keep Buying Iran Oil by patricklaw: 11:26pm On Nov 03, 2018
The United States said on Friday it will temporarily allow eight importers to keep buying Iranian oil when it re-imposes sanctions on Monday to try to force Iran to curb its nuclear, missile and regional activities.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who announced the decision, did not name the eight, which he referred to as “jurisdictions,” a term that might include importers such as Taiwan which the United States does not regard as a country.

Having abandoned the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, U.S. President Donald Trump is trying to cripple Iran’s oil-dependent economy and force Tehran to quash not only its nuclear ambitions and its ballistic missile program but its support for militant proxies in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East.

On Twitter, in a message designed to emphasize his “maximum pressure” policy toward Iran, Trump included a photograph of himself modeled on a entertainment industry poster with the headline: “Sanctions are coming November 5.”

China, India, South Korea, Turkey, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Japan have been top importers of Iran’s oil, while Taiwan occasionally buys cargoes of Iranian crude but is not a major buyer.

Turkey has been told it will temporarily be allowed to keep buying Iranian oil, its energy minister told reporters, as has Iraq, as long as it does not pay Iran in U.S. dollars, three Iraqi officials said.

India and South Korea were also on the list, said a source familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity. Under U.S. law, exceptions can be granted for up to 180 days.

India’s Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said India and other leading oil buyers would benefit from the U.S. waiver they have been granted.

“In the current geopolitically challenging scenario, India has managed to convince international leaders,” Pradhan told reporters in New Delhi.

Oil prices fell on Friday for a weekly loss of over 6 percent, as investors worried about crude oversupply after the U.S. waivers.

Brent crude futures LCOc1 fell 6 cents to settle at $72.83 a barrel, while U.S. crude CLc1 declined 55 cents to end the session at $63.14 per barrel, a 0.86 percent loss.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin also said Washington had told the Brussels-based SWIFT financial messaging service it was expected to disconnect all Iranian financial institutions that the United States plans to blacklist as of Monday. He declined to name the targeted institutions.

Trump set in motion the resumption of sanctions on May 8, when he announced U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 deal between Iran and world powers under which Tehran had agreed to curtail its nuclear program in return for relief from sanctions.

Nairaland / General / Abuja Rail | Amaechi Reveals Why It's Not Going Faster Than 90km/h by patricklaw: 8:04am On Oct 25, 2018
Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has disclosed that the Abuja-Kaduna rail line cannot run faster than 90 kilometres per hour because the ministry does not want locomotives killing cows.

The minister highlighted the complications the federal government has had to deal with in making rail concessions, stating that the concession with General Electric (GE) fell apart after the company was sold its rail business.

Amaechi, who spoke about local problems being faced by the rail system said Nigeria has more than enough to transport via rail, before stating restrictions caused by cows.

Earlier, How To Make money from companies on the verge of bankruptcy.

“The reason why we want to go back to narrow gauge is because between Lagos and Kano, we have 30 million tonnes of cargo. Even if you do three rail lines, it cannot be enough,” Amaechi said.

“It took us 14 days to move coaches from Lagos to Abuja; everyday we go and ask, how far, they say we are near Ogun state… 14 days.

“But if it were rail, the same day, it will get to Abuja. The kind of construction we are doing is 120 kilometres per hour (Km/h), it is a speed train.

“We are doing 90km/h with Abuja to Kaduna, the reason we are doing 90km/h is because there are cows everywhere, and we don’t want to kill cows. The other day they tried 100 and they killed how many cows, and they said ‘you people should replace the cows you killed.

Also, The Global Fund $660m grant for Nigeria Approved

“From that day, I have said let us maintain the 90km/h; at 120km/h you get to Kaduna in one hour. You can work in Kaduna and live in Abuja. It was initially one, but now, we have done four locomotives with 14 coaches.”

Investment / How To Make Money From Companies On The Verge Of Bankruptcy. by patricklaw: 3:02am On Oct 25, 2018
When companies are in financial trouble, we often hear about investors walking away with hefty sums of money. This seems counterintuitive, but it stems from the fact that investors have purchased the company’s debt, rather than its stock.

This is often referred to as distressed debt investing, and it’s a common practice among hedge funds and many institutional investors.
With distressed debt investing, an investor consciously purchases the debt of a troubled company—often at a discount—and seeks to profit if the company turns around.

In many cases, investors still walk away with payments even if a company goes bankrupt, and in some cases, distressed debt investors actually end up as owners of the troubled company.

Getting Debt on the Cheap

In this case, the discount comes because the borrower is at risk of defaulting. And indeed, investors can lose money if the company goes bankrupt. But if investors believe there can be a turnaround and are ultimately proven right, they can see the value of the debt go up dramatically.

An investor who purchases equity shares of a company instead of debt could make more money than debt investors if a company turns itself around. But, shares could lose their entire value if a company goes bankrupt.

Debt, on the other hand, still retains some value even if a turnaround doesn’t happen.

Gaining Control

When an investor purchases a company’s distressed debt, they are not only making a purchase but will often end up with some control of the business. Entities like hedge funds that buy large quantities of distressed debt will often negotiate terms that allow them to take an active role with the troubled company.

Additionally, distressed debt investors can achieve priority status in being paid back if a company goes bankrupt.

Politics / Election Is Not A Do Or Die Affair - INEC Ahead Of 2019 Elections by patricklaw: 11:56pm On Oct 23, 2018
Prior to the February 2019 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has warned politicians against seeing the process as a do or die, urging them to see elections as a means to an end and not an end in themselves.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairperson of its Election and Party Monitoring Committee, Prof. Antonia Okoosi-Simbine gave the charge Tuesday in Abuja at a workshop on Leadership and Conflict Management Skills for Electoral Stakeholders organized by the European Centre for Electoral Support ECES.

“Elections and electoral processes are by nature conflictual, fraught with several challenges that often test the skills of staff of Election Management Bodies EMBs. This is particularly so in developing democracies where elections are at times perceived as warfare that must be won at all costs.

Indeed, a cursory examination of the typical electoral cycle reveals that every phase is fraught with both potential and real dangers. “Election which is supposed to be a means to an end, that is, good governance is often seen as an end in itself. So much contestation surrounds our elections with little or scant respect for rule of law and due process”, she lamented. She charged electoral officials to improve on their conflict management skills and the need to “be able to document what happened, how it happened and how you got yourself to a situation where a fracas began.

You need to know how to report and analyse what happened from the cause of the problem to the steps you took to manage the situation”. Project Coordinator of ECES, Rudolf Elbling said “the training will strengthen the long term capacities of participants and the Commission to effectively prevent and mitigate elections related conflicts and its triggers.

Politics / Fayose Vs EFCC | EFCC Releases More Photos Of Fayose's Properties by patricklaw: 11:52am On Oct 18, 2018
Fayose Vs EFCC | EFCC Releases More Photos Of Fayose's Properties

As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) digs deeper into the graft accusation against ex-governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti, it has released photos of his properties.

The Spokesman for the Commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, released copies of the pictures on Wednesday.

According to him, the properties were uncovered while the anti-graft agency was investigating the allegations of corruption against the former governor.

He alleged that Mr Fayose purchased the property with the money he purportedly received from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

“In the course of investigating corruption allegations against ex-governor Ayodele Fayose, especially the N1.3billion which he collected from the office of the National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, the Commission unearthed evidence that he laundered the funds into the acquisition of properties in choice locations in Abuja and Lagos,” Mr Wilson alleged.

The EFCC released the pictures a day after the former governor arrived at its head office in Abuja, in company with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and a former minister, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, among other well-wishers.

Fayose had in September promised to report at the anti-corruption agency’s office after handing over government to his successor, Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The situation resulted to protest by the prospective corps members who besieged the State Secretariat of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) calling for the body to reverse its decision.

The protesters, who were visibly angry, also threatened to close down the NYSC Orientation Camp at Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, if the decision was not reversed

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Awakessien Eno, said that the corps discovered Student Officers fielded names of over aged students or names of students that read courses that were excluded from NYSC mobilisation.

According to her, the students affairs had colluded with some students who were quite ambitious and wanted to serve at all cost and registered them for service.

”An audit was carried out in most of the institutions nationwide and eventually six major institutions were affected and many of them are actually from Benue State.

“The audit report has been sent to the affected schools and the schools are aware of what exactly is expected of them,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Management of BSU, Makurdi, is investigating the challenges that led to the banning of prospective corps members from the institution from being mobilised for the mandatory NYSC.
