Trust me, they must have reviewed the pros and cons. In the long run, Tonali will deliver for Newcastle and if he does not, they can still recoup a good amount they spent to sign him since he is still young.

There are some good first year scholars like Fletcher, Fitzgerald, Devaney who have some quality, but their profiles are very different from that of Mainoo. McAllister is a good 2nd year scholar but i have seen enough of him to know that he is a pure CDM and not Mainoo's level at all.
