PoliticsThe Great Works Of Osinulo In Abia State by patrikobi(op): 6:57am On Jul 26, 2014
The Great Works Of Osinulo In Abia State

In a wide-ranging scrutiny of her Excellency’s works, it was discovered that she has vaunted on many projects that make life more functional. To achieve these, she has collaborated with many. Among these are Tolaram Charity Foundations, a Lagos based Indian conglomerate, MTN Yellow Doctor Mobile Intervention that featured Robert Copeland, 5th best ophthalmologist in the world, WHO-World Health Organization, in many of their lifesaving programs, Sure P, ABSACA and many other diaspora missions that make up the list. As you read below you will realize that the results are overwhelming.
The most recent is typical of a crossover artist as it presented commentators with new terms to grapple with. Culture is always topical as it borders on man’s way of life. As the experts opine, it is relative to time and place and always dynamic, most times adapting other people’s cultures.ALL ABIA SECONDARY SCHOOLS ART AND CULTURAL FESTIVAL/ACADEMIC AWARDS, first of its kind, took the airwaves by storm last week and showcased many events on Thursday July 17th, at Ibeku High School, Umuahia Abia State.
It could not have come at a better time than now with so many predicting that the Igbo language is facing serious incursion from foreign languages. What with the debate in Igbo language and other arts and craft exhibition that ensued.
Chief Mrs. Odochi Orji, Osinulo Maranma is indisputably the first lady of Abia State by the strong implication that she is a better and spiritual half of Chief T.A. Orji Ochendo. Before her were six predecessor-ladies who occupied the position of the first lady, namely: Mrs Grace Ajobena-1991-92, Chinyere Onu-1992-93, Chinyere Ike Nwosu-93-94, Florence Ejoor-94-96, Rebecca Fasanya-96-98, Linda Obi-98-99 and Ifeoma Uzor Kalu, 99-2007.
As you can see, these other women with due respect and every sense of responsibility had good names, charming looks, stable character and admirable personas. They did their personal best and as the man in the office allowed them in their era, but it is undeniably factual that never in the history of Abia have we had it so good from our first Ladies like it is today.
According to Martin Luther King junior, ‘life’s most persistent question is what are you doing for others?’ Mercy Odochi Orji has answered this question creditably and satisfactorily
It should be a lesson to all and sundry that her success in delivery of charitable largesse is due mostly to her determination to raise her kind, the women folk in particular, and serve humanity in general. It may even have been her vow and covenant with God when her husband was incarcerated and like Hannah in the Bible vowed in her childless situation, Osinulo may have mused, if you get this man out of the valley and shadows of death, I will help the down trodden. This task and personal avowal are made more difficult when her office, as large and so demanding as it is, has no appropriation or contribution from the coffers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, like other first ladies, yet allowed by the constitution to play ceremonial roles. Her Excellency the Deborah of our time has not only taken up this challenge seriously but has bequeathed so much to so many in a gracious manner.
Her Excellency’s transformation from the innocent housewife to the indomitable social activist, politician, protector of the powerless and needy, play out like the following story.
A certain professional never imagined he could jump three feet let alone scale a wall. Just like the little boys in our numerous neighborhoods play their football in any space available, the one in question climbed over a neighbor’s fenced house to retrieve their stray ball, unaware that the absent neighbour’s dog would be free. The little boy confronted by the lion-like dog, had no choice than making an escape. Mustering all his efforts, he saw himself flying over the high wall and from that experience became a professional jumper. So it was for Her Excellency Chief Mrs. Mercy Orji who started playing her role from crisis when her lovely husband was detained for no crime of his, the first time he saw the inner walls of a cell. The detention was enough to frighten the guts out of any lion hearted.
This sounds like a story but an international experience, a historical one will to a large extent elucidate this fact. In The Long Walk to Freedom, Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, it was clearly narrated how Nelson’s first marriage crashed. Evelyn, Nelson Mandela’s first wife sued for divorce when she realized that Nelson’s freedom fighting and liberationist-lifestyle was too precarious for her comfort and may keep him out of circulation and so she capitulated.
Luckily for Abia people and many whose lives Osinulo has transformed, she soldiered on, crushing the first most tedious challenge and has taken all other challenges as they emerge.
It is pertinent to know that, Osinulo synergized with men and women of good will, worked tirelessly before her husband was released.
Since then, she has not relented in fighting for the less privileged, physically challenged who she had given prosthesis, wheel chairs, crutches and children she has fostered.A little example will help. Her Abia Prayer Network, one of her first initiatives has proven to be the bedrock of her accomplishments, indicating that her staunch believe in the power of prayers has been rewarded greatly and many have benefited.
She instituted her pet project ably titled Hannah May Foundations, properly registered and appropriately articled with a well constituted board of trustees. This has provided a powerful springboard for many philanthropic gestures that have cascaded down to Abians and non Abians alike.
A friend of mine and a member of the same age grade passed through a harrowing experience I would not pray to happen to any of my enemies. As we know, fire is a good servant but a terribly bad master. MrObike Ogwumike fell victim of this bad master’s fiery visitation. We got this bad news and in line with the activities of age grades in Eastern Nigeria since time immemorial, made spirited efforts to assist, but before we could say ho! Hannah May stopped us in our tracks and raised a palatial place for Obike.
Other people like Obike before and after him, run a long list that I cannot exhaust.
Mrs Julie Ogbonna of Umuana Ndume, got herself a dashing 3 bedroom place, same for Mrs Best Ekeoba, a widow, of Obingwa who today savours the precincts of an accommodation, her four-bedroom flat, which would have only been a dream. This care of the needy and helpless, has no sex preferences just like the old man of Eziama Ubakala, Pa Barth Onukwue whose housing problem came to an end with her Excellency’s intervention. Oluchi Abraham of Okwuta Ibeku, Evangelist Eze of Nkporo are all evidential cases. Today Young men and girls are being imbued with various skills in the three senatorial zones in Abia with varying skills and equipped superfluously to operate at graduation.
The widows enjoy many alleviation programs directly under the auspices of her Excellency’s office. She has schemed them into the Ochendo Youth Foundation Scheme where they have received free vehicles and other lifesaving gadgets. She has collaborated with organizations at home and abroad to unleash medical succour to all strata of society including screenings for breast cancer, free reading glasses, awareness for non-communicable diseases and a strong advocacy against child labour and smuggling, prostitution, juvenile pregnancies and baby factory syndication.
Of strategic influence are her efforts to push women over the glass ceiling. Today, a woman is the registrar of Abia State University, the same goes for the office of the Chief Judge of Abia State,Mrs Nnenna Otti and other political and appointive offices. The beauty of it all are the tumbling effect on our young girls who are warming up for the 2015 elections.
What more can we say or ask for, rather than God’s protection of this large giver which the Koran acclaimed that ‘the hand that giveth is always on top.’ Abians rejoice!
Eddie Onuzuruike.

Gov Orji Condemns Kaduna Twin Blasts

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has condemned the recent bomb blasts in Kaduna, which claimed several lives.

Governor Orji also thanked God for saving the lives of the former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and a prominent scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who narrowly escaped being killed in the bomb blasts which occurred at Alkali Road and Kawo area of Kaduna metropolis.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, Governor Orji who said that he was devastated by the news of the twin blasts, described the act as devilish and barbaric.

The governor who condoled with his Kaduna State counterpart, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, families of the dead and the injured on the recent terror attacks in Kaduna masterminded by the insurgent group, Boko Haram, asked the Federal Government to stop at nothing in making sure that the perpetrators of the heinous act are brought to justice at the end of the day.

The Governor, who asked Nigerian not to live fear over the growing rate of insurgency, maintained that the security agencies in the country have the adequate manpower and equipment to contain insurgency and terrorism in the country.

Governor Orji, who called on Nigerians to be very conscious of their environment, implored them to report suspicious any movement within their domain to the Police and other law enforcement agencies for quick action to be taken before it’s too late.

He said that Nigeria would come out of the present security challenges more united more than ever before.

The point is that Abia State is lucky as regards to youth restiveness and in this regard I must commend our youths for their understanding. Our youths have long embraced dialogue in the place of confrontation; they have accepted negotiation rather than battle and they see peace as a way forward thus they are ever ready to bow to superior argument. Added to that is the fact that our amiable governor, Chief T.A. Orji has embarked on youth empowerment programmes that have made it possible for the Abia youth to be positively engaged in meaningful activities that will reward them economically. More than anything else, the Abia youths are also aware that ASOPADEC as a commission has been up and doing and so there is no need for any uprising in any form.

T.A is a man to be reckon in Abia state ,he has done so well and would be remembered for good ,So far, I can tell you that based on the records available to me that a total of 76 schools are renovated; while 48 of them have been completed, 28 are still under renovation. Besides renovation of schools, there is a programme known as education welfare. As part of educational welfare, the Commission has distributed about 100,000 exercise books and other educational materials to about 350 schools across the state. A total of 517 secondary school students were registered for WAEC /NECO certificate examinations for 2010/11 and 2011/12 academic sessions. Also, the secondary school quiz competition sponsored by the commission had the winner; Government College Umuahia receiving a Hummer school bus, the second and third prize winning schools received N2m and N1m respectively even as consolation prizes were given to other participating schools

In Abia today, the word equity and justice are now password. For the first time, a leader came in Orji who is setting the standard for justice by insisting that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. He has continued to preach the gospel that equity and justice are necessary parameters for a people and a society to dwell in peace and harmony. Against all intense pressure, the governor has kept to his words that power must shift to the Ukwa Ngwa people of Abia State. Orji is also a moral revolutionary

PoliticsArrest Of Northerners In Abia State Threatens Nigeria’s Unity — APC Rep by patrikobi(op): 10:13am On Jul 24, 2014
Arrest of northerners in Abia State threatens Nigeria’s unity — APC Rep

Honourable Aminu Sulaiman is a member of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kano State. In this interview with KOLAWOLE DANIEL, he bares his mind on the rejection of a motion he moved on the floor of the House of Representatives in respect of what he called a series of arrest of northerners in the South-East zone of the country. Excerpts

You recently came up with a motion on the series of arrests of northerners in the South-East region, but the motion couldn’t scale through. What informed the motion?

I respect the individual and the independent position of my colleagues and I cannot question their judgment. I also like to emphasise that I’m one of the very few that have enjoyed the confidence of my colleagues, having had the privilege to sponsor 23 motions in my three years in the House of Representatives and all the 23 motions went through with the exception of this one.

I want to sincerely believe that, because my colleagues did not have the benefit to know the details of the motion, this might have informed why they shot it down. I feel pained because I have lost an opportunity to correct an ill that is gradually setting in by the way and manner certain operations are being carried out by our security agencies.

I lost an opportunity to call the attention of the Commander-in-Chief on the dangerous slide perpetuated by some overzealous members of our security agencies. I have also lost an opportunity to draw our attention to the dangers and implications of this gradual but silent harassment of the very significant number of the Nigerian tribe and the Nigerian nation. I feel sad that, that opportunity is lost for us to see why the security agencies should place the unity of the country above primordial sentiments that individuals carry.

However, I would want to believe that the battle is not entirely lost, because I’m making consultations to ensure that we discuss this matter. This is the only reason people elected us as parliamentarians. We don’t write. We don’t administer. We don’t execute. What we do is debate for the benefit of the Nigerian people. Therefore, if you did not allow debate to hear the merits or the demerits, then gradually we are making nonsense of our own existence. It is Abia State today and anybody can use the same excuse again.

The way the members voted seems there was some kind of divide between the North and the South on the motion. How do you view that?

So it seems and that is why I said that my respected colleagues did not take the issue at stake from the perspective I had wanted to present it. I’m a Nigerian, a very proud Nigerian for that matter. God made me a Nigerian of northern extraction and I was voted for by the people who are now being forced to bear toga that is not theirs. I represent a people that are serially being harassed, maligned and perpetually put on negative spotlight.

Therefore, it is the Nigerian in me that made me raise the issue so that we would not allow this divide of the North and South to degenerate into an issue that we will not be able to solve. Rightly, our colleagues from that part of the country felt it was a northern affair. That is not correct. It is unfair to hold such opinion.

Therefore, if today we are having security challenges as symbolised by the heinous activities of Boko Haram. Because these elements profess Islam, are domiciled in the North and because they dress like northerners, in my own opinion, it will be a lazy approach by the security agencies to assume that every northerner is a potential Boko Haram member. It is very unfair and highly despicable.

If we allow that thinking to prevail, then, if today, we overcome Boko Haram, and there is a proliferation of kidnapping, as it were, then the same security will now assume this thinking and clamp down on people from the eastern part of the country and clamped them in detention.

That is why I said it is callous and irresponsible, despicable and lazy approach to security issues. We have in abundance significant number of security men to do intelligence for us.

Because if northerners should harass people from the South-East who dwell in the North tomorrow either in reprisal or as proactive measure, to say we don’t want issue of kidnapping to be smuggled and institutionalised in the North. Then, they begin to arrest and incarcerate Igbos. I will find myself in a quagmire because part of the votes that brought me to this place included significantly votes from Igbo-speaking people who are resident in Kano. The whole Igbo that are staying in Kano are in my constituency.

So, if tomorrow there is a retaliation of what is happening in Abia and other eastern state, and the government of Kano says either for reprisal purposes or to take proactive measure, it wants to put the Igbos on the spotlight. I will be compelled by the constitutional duty to raise a voice in support of the Igbos.

Therefore, when I’m raising my voice because significant members of my constituents are being unwarrantedly harassed by security agencies, then nobody should see that from regional or tribal perspective.

What were your prayers for the motion?

My prayers were three: The first is like an injunction to pass a resolution banning the security agencies from harassing any Nigerian travelling or residing anywhere in the country on the basis of his faith or his tribe.

Number two is to invite all the heads of the security agencies, particularly the Army, SSS, to come before relevant committees to explain their attitude which could instigate one ethnic group against another. What they are doing is gradually building enmity between the otherwise friendly regions of the East and the North. These actions are being perpetrated by the security agencies apparently with the collaboration of some powers. I’m not sure an average Igbo man is in support of this nonsense. Therefore, innocently they will now be setting the two tribes to look at themselves as enemy of one another. The intention is to invite them to tell us the reasons they want to set Nigeria on the part of Kigali, because that is what they are trying to do. Let them explain to us because we have a responsibility. People will ask us; they will not go and ask the chief of army staff because they don’t have access to him. Nobody will go and ask the DSS because they don’t have access to them. But they send me here, so that if issues like this arise, I should be able to stand up to say no to it because it is not in the spirit of one Nigeria.

The third prayer is to ensure that those who are involved in this ugly thing are fished out from the system and be asked to go. They are bad elements within the security system.

Now that the House had rejected the motion, what is the way forward?

I have already consulted the leadership of the House and I have explained in full what I had wanted to utilise the opportunity of the floor to do and the entire leadership are not only sympathetic, but they are in support of it. I have received green light to re-prepare the motion for re-presentation. I will do wider consultation to ensure that the motion scales through.

It is the northerners that are at the receiving end. What we are trying to discourage is the keeping of a sentimental security apparatus whereby a security officer from the North, will make reference to these incidents. We don’t want a situation we will begin to mount gates along Zaria road and say anybody from the southern part of Nigeria coming to the North must identify himself or herself and explain what their mission is. This is what I’m trying to prevent.

PoliticsNigeria: Abia's New Approach To Governance by patrikobi(op): 7:17am On Jul 24, 2014
Nigeria: Abia's New Approach to Governance

Abia's new approach to governance According to Bronson Alcott (1799-1888), an America philosopher, "to be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant". In fact, this is the best way to describe critics of Gov T.A. Orji of Abia state who, rather than appreciate the socio-economic and political revolution ongoing in Abia state, decided to hurl brickbats to deceive the ignorant on the Abia Project and thereby make themselves happy.

If we can recollect the words of Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914), an America writer; "fool is he that pervades the domain of intellectual speculation and diffuses himself through the channels of moral activity". For one to see a good and enduring work and decides to disparage it, i.e. standing the truth on the head because of pecuniary considerations, is indeed to make jest of the truth.

It beats one's imagination that critics of Chief T.A. Orji's administration (Ochendo Global) could be so pedestrian and hollow in their analysis of the events which ultimately lead them to present hollow criticisms on the Abia Project and makes one to conclude that those critics have nothing to offer except to join in stamping and in fact engraving his (Ochendo's) name in the marble of gold as it has been widely acclaimed. If his critics have run out of ideas on what to write concerning the administration's positive running of the state affairs, they should shut up. Numerous developmental projects stand tall for prosperity to behold. Are we talking about the massive construction and reconstruction of infrastructures in the towns and communities of the state, the administrations building of multi-million naira and internationally acclaimed modern health institutions, including a network of roads or the well organized security network now in place?

Before the inception of the Ochendo's government, electricity was very epileptic, insecurity was at its crescendo, unemployment was spirally on the increase while the economy snow-dived to the point of leading the state to bankruptcy. Gov. Orji's detractors saw that as an opportunity to blackmail the government despite the glaring evidence that the problem started from his predecessors. Now, having fixed the economy, empowered the women and youths and made electricity to glow continually in Umuahia and environs through the installation of 132kv sub-station of the then Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), hecklers of the Abia state administration are now talking about Village Bridge that collapsed recently as Odimegwu Onwumere recently wrote.

If we accept the facts that only one bridge, the Igwu Bridge suddenly gave way, making it impossible for the Ndi Ebe Abam people to connect with other villages, does it not point to fact that the administration is alive to its responsibilities, having built thousand and one bridges and roads: an aftermath of which made one single bridge that recently collapsed on July 1, 2014 a headline news?

Consequently, their resort to criticizing the government on its alleged inability to fix infinitesimal project, like a village bridge, is a clear testimony that they have accepted the fact that the administration has taken care of bigger and much pressing projects. Certainly, they have come short of acknowledging the fact that Gov. Orji is carrying on a revolution no other governor of the state has ever carried out since the creation of Abia state in 1991. People call it a revolution because, for the first time in the history of the state, a new government house is being built, twin secretariat for public servants have been completed and currently being used while housing estates are springing up in Umuahia, Aba and some communities in the state.

But has the Igwu Bridge collapsed and vehicles still ply on it? If the critics said the bridge was in bad shape, it would have been understandable. Actually, the bridge got dilapidated some months back and had to be fixed by the State Ministry of Works pending the expiration of the raining season when comprehensive rehabilitation would be done on it. But unlike some projects which receive some bashing following constant rains, the bridge may have been affected by the pounding of the rains. But that does not make it totally unused as minimal movements on that Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia road is still on. Motorists still ply on the roads and make their ways to and from Ohafia. Aside the road, there are other roads which the people could access to get to other communities and towns including their neighbouring communities. It is a truism that many roads in the state including the ones in Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency have been put in good shape.

Accordingly, the once dilapidated, ridiculed and maligned Abia state has been upped to the point that its economy flourishes, its women and youths empowered and provided for, while the residents have their environment and properties secured at a time insecurity is on the increase in the country. Indeed, a night in Abia is beauteous, calm and free. Residents and Visitors relish this system of goodly feast. It is the philosophy of Ochendoism at work. Gov Orji started working for Abia when he was sworn in May 29, 2007 as the third executive governor of Abia state and did increase the tempo of performance in his second term of office. One of his remarkable achievements is the assemblies of hitherto political enemies into one large and accommodating umbrella. For people who disagreed politically since 1999 when the fourth republic came into being to have agreed to work together under a common front to move the state forward shows that politics is actually a doctrine of possible and a concept that is attainable.

In Abia today the three arms of government work in concordance. Rule of law reigns supreme. Judicial officials are provided with the logistics as well as some cozy offices to perform their onerous task of dispensing justices without fear or favour. The administration not only ensures that the people have unrestrained access to justices, it equally emphasis the fact that the good of the people is the highest law. These are the concepts that calm a society and enthrone peace and unity in the polity. And this is what blackmailers of his administration have refused to acknowledge.

Abia Govt Demolishes Kidnapper's House

Abia State government has demolished a building belonging to one Ogbuonye Ogbonna Daniel due to his involvement in kidnapping activities in the state.
Security Adviser to Abia State Governor/State Task Force Chairman, Capt. Awa Udonsi Agwu (Rtd.), who spoke to newsmen after the demolition of the bungalow at Umuariaga Oboro in Ikwuano LGA, said the measure is to serve as deterrent to other kidnappers and those nursing the idea to enter the illicit business.
He said that the state government abhors kidnapping and would stop at nothing to stamp the menace out of the state.
According to him, other kidnappers who have property in the state will have them pulled down once the government identifies such property and assured that the process is an on-going one.
Meanwhile, residents of Umuariaga who spoke on condition of anonymity have applauded the state Government for embarking on the demolition exercise, pointing out that they have been living in fear due the activities of some suspected kidnappers operating in the area.
It would be recalled that not long ago, a hotel belonging to another kidnapper at Afaraukwu was demolished by the State Government in its bid to flush out kidnappers from the State

PRESS RELEASE: THERE IS A DISAFFECTION AMONG ABIA CITIZENS AS WELL AS WITHIN THE ABIA STATE'S CHAPTER OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

The attention of the Abia State government has been drawn to the malicious and misleading publication on Thursday July 17, 2014 edition of the SUN Newspapers which alleged that " there is a disaffection among Abia citizens as well as within the Abia state's chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party over the setting up of a 17- man panel by Governor T. A. Orji for selection of his successor."

According to the fictitious report which only exists in the imagination of the writer, the medium and their pay master, "the governor had appointed his kinsman, a sacked PDP National Chairman to head the selection panel to help him rubber- stamp his crony."

The misleading report further said that the development "had already pitched the governor against the people of the state", adding that some aggrieved party chieftains had also petitioned the Presidency and the National Working Committee of the party.

The Governor wishes to categorically state that at no time has he set up any panel to select his successor as maliciously portrayed in the false publication.

"I have always made it clear to all Abians that it is not in my powers to anoint my successor as that negates the principles of true democracy which I have serious respect for. For the benefit of doubt, the election of my successor will follow due process, equity and fairness according to the constitution of my party .

"I wish to state for the umpteenth time that I have no anointed candidate for the 2015 governorship election in Abia State, nor do I intend to have. Any one parading himself as my anointed candidate is living in the past because already I have fought gallantly to decimate godfatherism and 'mamacracy' from Abia political landscape , and never again will it be resurrected."

In a release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ajunwa, Governor Orji averred that no single individual had the right to anoint his successor, assuring that his successor will be a product of due process in tandem with the people's choice and mandate.

The release, therefore, urged all PDP governorship aspirants, members and leadership of the party, Abians as well as the general public to disregard the said publication as it is nothing but a bunch of falsehood and political propaganda "planted to cause disaffection in our peaceful party and state.

WHAT ORJI UZOR KALU UNDERSTANDS ABOUT GOVERNANCE

By Havilah Iheka

Orji Uzor Kalu was at the other day in Onitsha during a devotion ritually conducted by traders .In that day he a statement that he left a legacy in Abia state, and that it is there for all to see.I was shocked by that statement and I asked myself if he was even going haywire ,perhaps he is in a dreamland. Please ,OUK,I know you may hear my question which I have to ask you,or probably your pic lose relative might be here on Facebook which I know they may help to extend my question to you:
My question is ,what is the legacy you spoke of at Onitsha during that devotion day.Was it a legacy of failure that you found which another man is trying to erase totally. If that is the legacy you meant to say,I don't disagree with you ,because I could remember it as in your tenure that you benevolently share WHEEL BARROWS to market men and women as an empowerment kits.Well,am unflappable as to your argument about legacy ,all those are legacy depending the way one looks at it because if you can empower someone with wheel barrow ,literarily ,it is empowerment. But one thing is obvious ,that is rather huge mockery to humanity and governance.
I always feel uneasy when I see you sprout out from your comfort zone to parry political issues like a goal keeper in-between the sticks; you mesmerize your gullible audience as Messi mesmerizes a weak defense line. Was it that you bought them over with the money you stole from Abia state fund to enrich your self the more ,or that they believe you with tinkered mind ,or that you have blindfolded the tentative minds with your voodoo mannerism.I use to think you and ORO ,Rochas are alike but I see something which makes him even more better a dangerous politico than you are.You are not just tricky, rather you are a con man.You have made it to the top and we are all not against your success but to still stand and share your ego to the public as a successful leader and braggart as one who achieved an Indelible feat is what i consider a misplacement of judgement ,and discomfiting in the sense that you have little or no knowledge of what SUCCESS ,& LEADERSHIP means in the proper depiction. Please Chief OUK ,It is safe to urge you to look back to old days when you the governor ,try to measure your self-acclaimed feat. Then come back to us and tell us you failed us.By then we-the quick-witted Abians will show you what legacy achievement and success means. But in the absence of that, you are not telling us any truth.

Abia okays N1.2m to repair Umuahia Ikot-Ekpene Road(A Federal road)

The Abia State Government has earmarked N1.2m for the rehabilitation of deplorable portion of Umuahia Ikot -Ekpene Federal road. The New Telegraph gathered that the state government’s intervention on the road would serve as a huge relief to motorists plying the road.

The state Governor, Theodore Orji, stated this during an inspection of the progress of work done along the Ekebedi Oboro, Ikwuano portion of the road. He said the amount was for the total reconstruction work which was being undertaken by the Abia State Road Maintenance Agency (ABROMA), adding that the project was expected to last for one month.

He explained that the state government decided to undertake the reconstruction of the federal road owing to its deplorable condition which had been a nightmare to motorists. He added that he had informed the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) on the state of the road.

The governor said: “The point is that the Federal Government is aware because I have spoken to the chairman in charge of FERMA but we will not wait until they come before we intervene because the problem is facing us. We have embarked on the road project; thereafter, we can now inform the Federal Government on the amount spent for record purposes.

The governor, who noted that he was moved by the plight of motorists who ply the Umuahia Ikot- Ekpene federal road linking Abia State to its sister states of Akwa Ibom and Cross River, expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far. Over 150 heavy duty vehicles carrying goods and passengers which were trapped on the road have found their way to their various destinations.

He appealed to the people of the community to cooperate with the state government to ensure speedy completion of the road and commended the ABROMA for a job well done.

News Analysis On Abia Youth Empowernment Scheme -Hon. Chuks Ibegbu

The Abia Youth Empowerment Programme is a model that should be emulated by other states in Nigeria. In this news analysis, Hon. Chuks Ibegbu, a commentator on national and international issues considers the impact of this scheme.

The greatest challenge facing Nigeria today is Youth Unemployment and Underemployment. It is the factor responsible for the high rate of crime in the country. Any step taken therefore to reduce this hydra-headed situation should be applauded. The Youth empowerment programme of the Abia Youth Empowerment Foundation has run for some years now and has tremendously added a lot of value to the lives of thousands of Abia and Igbo Youths.

The initiator of this programme , Engr Chinedu Orji has proved that with a pragmatic mindset anchored on empathy for his fellow citizens a workable empowerment model can be put in place. Hitherto Igbo and Abia Youths were left in the dark with little or no plans for them. But the Ochendo administration , the Ikuku empowerment strategy and Her Excellency lady Odochi Orji women and Youth empowerment schemes have all aggregated to add value to the lives of Abians.

The good thing about these schemes is that there is a cyclic effect in them. Those who are empowered empower others in turn and by the time you know it thousands of Abians and Igbos in Abia state benefit directly or indirectly.

For the beneficiaries of these empowerment programmes there is no need emphasizing that they must utilize the opportunity to turn the fortunes of their lives for the better . They must inculcate the habit of saving and investment no matter how small. In no distant time they will build up the necessary capital to launch into medium and even big businesses.

As more Abia and Igbo Youths benefit from these programmes, we wish the initiator of the Abia Youth Empowerment programme, Engr Chinedu Orji better days ahead and more of such elevating schemes in the nearest future.

South East Governors’ Forum has commended delegates at the ongoing constitutional conference in Abuja for their unanimous recommendation that an additional state be created for the zone to bring it at par with other geo-political zones of the country.
Chairman of the forum and Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, in a press statement made available to newsmen in Umuahia, saluted the courage of the delegates in adopting the recommendation which he added, is a major step towards ending decades of political injustice and marginalization against Ndigbo .
The statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ajunwa, also commended the confab for recommending the creation of more new states from the existing ones across the country, saying this will help correct the imbalance and lopsidedness in state creation supervised by the military.
According to the statement, “this bold step of the conference will also help to diffuse tension in the polity as well as fast track grassroot development “.
“We also commend the leadership of the conference as well as the delegates for their maturity, patriotism and peaceful disposition in conducting the affairs of the confab,” the statement said.
The Governors, therefore, called on the National Assembly and other relevant stakeholders to support the recommendation, and to synergise on making the outcome of the confab a working document in the overall interest of Nigeria.
South-East Governors restated their faith in the conference and called on all Nigerians to be united in adopting the final outcome of the exercise as a way to move the country forward .
The Governors also reiterated their unflinching support for President Goodluck Jonathan especially for his courage in organizing the conference despite pockets of oppositions, saying that the recommendations of the confab so far on key contentious issues in the country have vindicated the President’s action.

Demand for states, resource control question: Nigeria cannot ignore Igbo – Gov Orji

Governor T.A. Orji, in this interview, speaks on national issues as well as those concerning his Abia State.

You have just one year to the end of an era. By this time next year you hope to be serving the nation from the Senate. How would you like to finish your eight-year tenure?

I want to finish strong. Like you said, by this time next year I would have finished my tenure. When I was entering the Government House as governor, I started preparing knowing that one day I must leave. I am not afraid of leaving. In finishing strong, I want to complete the jobs I have on my hands. I will try and finish and commission them before I go. I want to leave enduring legacies; legacy of security and unity, I want to ensure they are sustained. And I hope that the person who will come and take over from me will not only continue from where I will stop but also build on what we have started because these are very important to the people of Abia State.

An opinion poll conducted by a housing programme on Africa Independent Television (AIT) confirmed that you are the Housing and Urban Development Governor of the Year 2013. Can you tell us what you have done in that area to deserve the honour?

The assessment was by done by AIT, not me. When I was putting the projects on ground I never knew that the media would take such a keen interest on what we were doing and put us on a scale with other governors and come forward to give us an award. We consider food and shelter as very important in the life of every human being, and that is why we are very strong on housing and agriculture. In Abia, we put a lot of emphasis on security and health. The other area is housing. Every Abian must have a roof over his head. When Abia was created out of Imo State, people were coming to work in Umuahia from Imo State. That was a challenge to me. So what I did was to start constructing houses; affordable houses that they could buy. I also empowered the people to build houses. We provided housing and office accommodation for civil servants, where they would work under a conducive environment. I am sure you have gone to our secretariat. That secretariat is brand new. It is befitting. We never had a thing like that before. What we had was a secretariat built for us by the Federal Government, and it could not accommodate all the workers. The result was that our offices were scattered in town. If you go to Abiriba Street you see Ministry of Works. You go to Ohafia Street you see Ministry of Agriculture. It was inconveniencing us and we said no. We decided to build a state secretariat that will house all civil servants within the same complex to facilitate the movement of workers, files, mails and other things.

*Gov Orji
We don’t have a Government House. This place we are staying used to be a Government Rest Huse when we were in Imo State. I started building houses, first for our workers, affordable houses for them to buy; and also houses for members of the public to buy and rent out to our workers and other members of the public. I challenge anyone of you journalists who come here to go and inspect these housing and other projects.

Why the challenge excellency?

Our new secretariat which we built is not a bungalow secretariat but a high-rise secretariat with elevators. The first of the buildings has been occupied by civil servants. The second is ready and they will move in very soon. We have also completed an international conference centre, which is also of highest standard and quality, with all facilities. Before now we used to have the Okpara Auditorium which can only accommodate about 500 people. But the international conference centre has capacity to accommodate 5,000 people with modern facilities and parking lots in a very serene environment that will bring tourists to Abia State. We also have a new Government House springing up. We have never had one before in Abia State. You have gone round the country and you must have seen how their Government Houses look. As I said before, where I live was once a guest house. We merely expanded it to make it a little bit habitable. The Government House we are building is one of the best in the country. It will serve governors, myself and others to come after me. We also have an e-library, which we set up in Ogurube Layout. Our Abia State Universal Education Board (ASUBEB), which used to be in rented offices, is now comfortably accommodated in its permanent office built by us, also in the highbrow Ogurube Layout. These are all high-rise houses, complete with high quality furnishing and finishing as we see in advanced countries, not the kind of finishing that will disintegrate after a few months and government will award new contracts, no.

We also have another superb building we have established for our traditional rulers. We call it Joint Accounts Account Committee (JAAC) Building because it also accommodates our local government ministry. To build the new government house we had to demolish the traditional rulers council building that was standing there. The new building for traditional rulers (JAAC BUILDING) is almost 80 per cent completed. In that same environment you will see the Abia State Environmental Protection Authority (ASEPA) building. They used to stay in a rented apartment. If you ever went to the offices of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA) it was like a chicken coop. We now have a new complex, fully equipped there. When the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku came here he adjudged it as the best in the country, having gone round to see things for himself during his Good Governance Tour with journalists. What of our Diagnostics and Dialysis Centre? We have one in Umuahia and another in Aba. They house all the diagnosis equipment. There is also another specialist centre for the eye. If you go to Amachara, you will see another big hospital with five high-rise buildings, with special accommodation for our medical students on horsemanship. In that hospital there is a specialised chest clinic. We have built nine new hospitals in nine local government areas. These are some of our legacies in the health sector. We have developed a building model for primary schools in all the 17 local government areas.

Some local governments have more than one. Some have up to four. We intend that with time our primary schools will conform to this model, not only in physical appearance but also in terms of quality of education. We have completed the Amaokwe Housing Estate here in Umuahia and people are living there. We have the Ohobo Housing Estate that is ongoing in Umuahia. We have the Ubani Housing Estate that is almost completed. Our Isieke Housing Estate is completed, and it has been sold out. We are putting up seven duplexes in the place where the civil servants pack away from to their new secretariat. We also made a very ambitious foray into market development. You need to see our market at Ubani. It has over 7,000 stalls. We have also completed the Timber Market or industrial market because it houses all ranges of building materials merchandise. It is along Ikot Ekpene Road near the Government College. It is fully functional, and so is the Ubani Market. There is also the Ohiya Industrial Market where they sell vehicle and machinery spare-parts. It has more than 1,000 stalls. We have decongested the centre of Umuahia, removing the old township market and relocating our traders to our new markets to allow us put up a befitting project in the centre of Umuahia to make it look really beautiful. We have also made the Judiciary arm of government feel really at home with the development of a befitting chain of edifices for their official and residential use. Our courts used to be dilapidated but today we have one of the best court houses in the country. One is in Umuahia, and two others are in Aba. If these are the things that AIT and other people saw and gave us the award, they have only seen half of things we have done in the housing sector alone. That we why we call them legacy projects and I believe AIT has not made the wrong choice.

You recently recalled the non-indigenes whose services were transferred to their states in 2011. You said the new minimum wage was responsible for the action you took. Could it be that the finances of Abia State have improved hence your decision to recall them?

It is good for a leader to be realistic. It is good for a leader not to pretend. We took that policy because of circumstances beyond our control. Other states had taken a similar policy when things were hard for them, and it affected us. We tried it so as to come out of a problem. When I saw that we had started gradually coming out of that problem by way of the increase of our internally generated revenue (IGR) I thought it wise that these our brothers and sisters should come back. And they are happy. I am satisfied that I had the courage to do what I did, and to recall them when I needed to do so. I am calling on my colleagues to do the same. Let them recall our people that they discharged from their states because many of them are still here not doing anything since we could not reabsorb all of them, though we tried our best. The other state governors should be kind enough, just as we are, to recall them. I will be very glad for that.

What has been the role of the private/public partnership model in your housing delivery?
PPP is a very useful model but in adopting it you have to be very sure of the partners or persons you are partnering with. Initially we had our problems. This state ran into wrong hands. We gave them our Certificate of Occupancy and everything and they absconded. We learnt our lesson. Right now we are partnering with very credible business people with good antecedents. And that is why we are achieving what we are achieving now. We have three companies we are partnering with. One of them is an indigenous company owned by a son of Abia. When I discovered him I told him to show us an example of what you can do and he did. We partnered with him to build the Ubani Housing Estate. He has put in place 500 units of houses for the low income people. He is proceeding to build for medium income people. I intend to work together with them because they have done very well. Once we see you credible we continue partnering with you. It is an opportunity for those who want to invest in housing in Abia, let them come. We have the land. We want those who will develop the land in partnership with government.

Would you like the Land Use Act to remain or be changed?

The law should stay. As a governor I make sure that all land under my care is equitably distributed. It affords government the opportunity of having land for development. Secondly, it will reduce the incidence of people coming to take land and go away without doing anything. It also reduces the incidence of land squabbles in the rural communities. We have seen it here, where communities have tussled over land for so many years. The case has been in court, and they have been killing people over the land. And government will come in and say, ‘stop quarrelling. All of you should stay clear; government has taken over the land’. By so doing you save people’s lives and use the land for the public good. The Timber Market is built on a formerly disputed land. The case has been in the Supreme Court for more than ten years. Brothers and sisters were killing themselves. And I called them and sat them down. I told them I am taking over the land to do a project that will favour every person. And they accepted. If I hadn’t that law under my control I would not have achieved that.

As the Chairman of South East-Governors Forum, what would you like the on-going National Conference to achieve, not only for the Igbo people but for the country as a whole?
What I will like the conference to accomplish for the Igbo people is to create an additional state for the South-east to bring it equal to other geo-political zones. And for the country as a whole, I will like them to look into those areas that have been agitating the minds of the people that have threatened the corporate existence of this country, like resource control, sharing of revenue, state and local council creation, state police and all those areas that people have been hammering on daily basis. They should look into those areas and come to a conclusion that will be acceptable to majority of the people, so that this country will continue to be one.

H.E T.A Orji asks Imo State Governor to reinstate Abians
disengaged from Imo State Workforce

H.E T.A Chief Theodore Orji, has asked his Imo State counterpart, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, to reciprocate Abia State government’s gesture to reinstate Imo indigenes disengaged from the state’s workforce by doing same for Abians disengaged from the Imo State workforce. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, Governor Orji who was reacting to a story published in one of the national dailies where Governor Okorocha commended Governor Orji for reinstating the disengaged Imo State indigenes, said the decision of the Abia State government to reduce its workforce in 2012 was never politically motivated as Imo State government through sponsored articles made many to believe. According to him, the policy to downsize the Abia State workforce then was the only option left to the state government when the issue of the new minimum wage came up noting that this development forced the state government to reduce its workforce in order to pay monthly salaries. “Before carrying out the implementation of this new policy, His Excellency Governor Theodore Orji, did officially communicated his brother governors in the South-east on his government’s decision to downsize
its workforce. He gave them reasons why the state government decided to embark on the exercise. None of the governors disagreed with the Abia State governor on the issues he raised in his letter. “But Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, for reasons best known to him started to make political capital of Abia State government’s decision to downsize its workforce in 2012. After months of trying to paint Abia black without succeeding it has now done on Governor Okorocha that Abia State government never set out to punish its citizen. The exigencies of the times forced Abia State government to implement the policy of downsizing its workforce. Before this time, Imo State and other state had disengaged Abia indigenes from their workforce and Abia State government never raised any alarm or made political capital of it. Instead, the Abia State government accommodated some of citizens disengaged from other states into its workforce without pointing accusing fingers on anybody. “It’s a welcome development to finally see Governor Okorocha allowing reason to prevail over some of his unguarded statements against Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji (Ochendo Global). He should take a step further by joining hands with his brother governors in the Southeast to make the zone attain its
desired economic growth and development. Since coming on board as the Chairman of South-east Governors Forum, Governor Orji has continued to preach love, unity of purpose and above all, he has promised to take the Southeast to greater heights.

Emerson once wrote that every violation of truth is not only a sort of suicide in the liar, but is a stab at the health of human society. Emerson was counseling Reagan Ufomba.
The shackle (as at 1st March 2013) you see on this page is what is remaining of the much publicized NGWA WOMEN HOSPITAL proudly managed by OCHIAGHA REAGAN UFOMBA. Reagan had published in his various Internet Sites that the dilapidated structure you see is designed to take care of at least one hundred women who are in dire need of medical care especially pregnant women. In further expansion of his lie, he quoted how much billions he votes from his personal income to fund this hospital.
The truth is, this hospital has never functioned for one day. Relatives of pregnant women who rush them to this shackle during emergencies end up losing such women. There is no life in the place. The only thing that has ever functioned is the sign board, although it is also fast dilapidating like the others.
Only recently, Reagan paid NTA over Two Million naira (N2M) to advertise the scholarship he awarded to his kinsmen which value was put at about Five Hundred Thousand naira (N500,000). Reagan wants to be Governor and can do everything to get attention.
You build a hospital that is killing instead of saving lives, just know that God is watching you. You give N500,000 and publicize it with N2,000,000, just know that God is watching you! You failed in managing one hospital but you are aspiring to manage over 256 others when you become Governor, just know that God is watching you! By Frankie James

Chuks Akamadu and Nkechi Nworgu Alliance to
Destroy Abia State
It is popularly known that one Mr. Ndu Akomas, a
love-vendor to Orji Uzor Kalu’s mother, introduced Chuks
Akamadu into the gigolo act. Chuks Akamadu who
claimed to be a graduate of Unilag but records
showed he never graduated from UNILAG just as our
investigation showed that he was never at any point a
student at the law school.
Meanwhile, all efforts by Chuks father, Nkechi
Nworgu’s husband, to give him a good education
failed because Chuks will rather chose to go after
married women and widows. When the opportunity
came to meet Eunice Kalu (odiukonamba) he jumped
at it with open arms against the advise of his father
who frowned at his boy’s way of life, because of his
youthful prowess in bed odiukonamba promised to
make him a Councilor under the now defunct PPA but
that was not to be as he was caught sleeping with one
of the Party’s women leader at the back of Nweke
Street in Aba. On one occasion as a result of his randy
lifestyle with Odiuko’s party women, he was thrown
out of the house by madam Eunice Kalu, now
frustrated and rejected by his father he moved out of
town and went to Abuja where he became a love-vendor
hanging in a popular hotel where ladies of easy virtue
usually came to look for men.
On one of such occasions, he met Orji Uzor Kalu, his
mentor who came to frolic with Senator Nkechi
Nworgu. OUK having recognized Chuks then took him
to his estranged mother, Senator Nkechi Nworgu.
It is widely known especially among the people of
Osisioma that Mr. Chuks Akamadu is one of the
estranged sons of Senator Nkechi Nworgu from her
second husband. But she had since abandoned Chuks
and his sibling just the same way she abandoned her
first husband’s kids.
For Chuks, this is is an opportunity to get his mother’s
attention and this can be achieved by attacking other
perceived Ngwa Governorship aspirants. It is equally
known that her estranged mother is using him to

PoliticsSee What Senator Nkechi Nworgu Does In Abuja by patrikobi(op): 2:50pm On Jan 09, 2014
The name Chuks Akamadu may not sound very familiar to some sane minds but the name always leaves a tale of sorrow and tears in the minds of some rich widows and ladies of easy virtue, a popular face in all brothels across Abuja whose recent catch is Senator Nkechi Nworgu. But unknown to this senator representing Abia Central Senatorial zone who has never made an input in all the activities going on in the hallowed chambers, who spends the time she was supposed to use in attracting development to the senatorial zone she represents which is Abia Central Senatorial zone, rather chose to spend it with different men in hotels across Abuja.

On the 28th of August 2013, this woman was caught pants down in a popular hotel in Abuja by her husband's younger brother who has heard of her escapades with men. On that day, Senator Nworgu who is now prostituting Abuja was caught her in bed with a former governor who goes by the name Orji Uzor Kalu who is rumoured to have been infected with HIV by her wayward mother Odiukonamba. As if that is not enough, Orji who promised to get her a return ticket to the Senate come 2015 caught her with Chuks Akamadu having sex inside the senator's car in the garden of a popular Abuja hang out. This Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial zone in the Senate is now rated highest amongst lose women who lure young men to amorous intimate relationship with them with the promise of dashing them money or giving them political positions.

Chuks Akamadus favourite past time is sleeping with people's wives for a fee. Chuks is a drop out from the University of Lagos who thinks that sleeping with the nymphomaniac Senator Nworgu who is never satisfied in bed will earn him a place in politics. Chuks has therefore resorted to some performance enhancing drugs like Viagra and some local herbs so as to satisfy Senaor Nkechi Nworgu. It's not surprising that the Senator's first son was consummated through prostitution. Today, Senator Nworgu's illegitimate son has threatened to kill the mother if she fails to show him his father.

Rumour has it that Chief Nworgu after the shocking discovery that Orji was sleeping with his wife decided to silently end his relationship with the senator so as to avoid getting infected with HIV, since it is no longer news that Orji is infected with the deadly virus as a result of his intimate relationship with his mother Odiukonamba. This sex freak has not added any value to the senatorial zone she represents since she entered the Senate instead she is only busy sleeping with men all over Abuja. It was reported some time in 2012 that she fought in the waiting lounge of a local airport with a woman who accosted her and asking that she should leave his husband alone. Both women tore at each other and striped themselves Unclad only for the security men to whisk them away.

Young men beware of this Nymphomaniac senator as she will come to lure you to bed with her money.

Abians will find T.A Orji for more honours.

Good health is tantamount to wealth and for that reason the preservation of the security and property of Abians as well as the provision of adequate health care have come to take the centre stage in Abia development agenda though the legacy projects agenda.I saw how he started building a workers secretariat which seven executives (including two civilians) could not do. Visiting to what used to be general hospital Amachara and u will discover great transformation which T.A Orji has carried out. That hospital brings s me feeling of good memory, because my mom always told me I was born there. I am glad that the glory of the hospital and on the other hand saves us the agony of losing our loves ones to curable ailment. I would urge us to take a walk to the hospital; there are essential facilities at the specialist Hospital which are world class. You would be astonished as to the money invested in securing duality facilities like the dialysis machines, the MRI machines and more. Those who think these facilities do not mean anything should wait until they are struck by ailments.
The Abia State Diagnostic Centre is another heavy weight medical institute which provides the people of Abia state substantial remedies to health issues and it has provided healthy jiffy for the ill-stricken person there by helping them recuperate from their ailment. It is not only a safe place to go but an affordable diagnostic Centre.
All these are made possible by the administration of T.A Orji.I pray for more developments as we have seen on health sector to be extended to other sector...We know T.A has made development his prime priority and we pray for continue through out his stay in the office.God bless Abia State.
